MC Eiht is a legend!! Will never forget his music from '93/'94
Streiht Up Menace!💪
Everyone in Oakland thought my cousin Safiir was rich after that one little scene in Menace to Society 🤣 It was crazy after that movie dropped 💯
Saafir had an interesting rap style.
@@Thadopeera holy crap Saffir is your cousin? He’s one of my fave MC’s of all time for real. How is he? Last I heard he got hurt after an emergency landing of a plane and was in a wheelchair. If you see him tell him that there’s a lot of fans of his music and we are praying for him.
@@frankyfourfingers1382 Saffir was dope AF. Dude West Coast Underground love him with that dope af Flow. 🙌
@@SKOTxFREE He lost his brother this year. My cousin Akil aka Killie who was part of The Hobo Junction. But Safiir is doing ok. It just hit us all hard. Thanks bro 💯🙏🏾
Musicians these days are living off tours because for the most part no one is purchasing music online when you can listen to it for 🆓. Back in the Day tours was extra money on top of what you made from record sales 💯 6:23
Everything the label gives you is considered “recoupable”
Eiht's explanation helps explain why some rappers stay in the streets even though they have hit records. For example, when Fetty Wap got busted everyone said "Fetty has sold millions of records, why was he still selling drugs". Same with Quando Rondo, Young Thug, and a list others.
Most of them don't own the money they make when signed to a major label. It's taxable, garnished, and mismanaged. The labels know they gonna make their money back ten fold. Dr. Dre and Cube left Ruthless because they weren't getting royalties. Performance money is only enough until it's time to re-up.
The street money is what they own, but that life is gonna have a lot of risks involved if you not moving correctly. That's why they're always getting locked up.
@@itsrelativ3967 Damn, shit sounds real fcuked up.
@@Criminal.Lawyer.2024 So many artist that had huge songs should of never signed with a Label..They should have gotten a distribution deal and kept their music and most of the profits including touring.
FETTY was deeply STUPID... his attorney had warned him many times.
Dude used to make 100k a day, he realized that he fell off, the day he made 70k. now he got nothing left in his name.
@@Criminal.Lawyer.2024 exactly! I think Rod Wave said it first on his twitter that he was going back to the block once he got started too
Record companies are making money off Life insurance policies from these microwave artists deaths 💯 9:43
@@henryhudson4965 I can understand that!
Artists need to get away from streaming their whole albums on streaming services. Put 1 or 2 songs on there and have your fans buy the whole project from your webpage
@@timeTravellin Facts. It cuts them out for a sideline win but you might stronghold them coming to you for more marketing.
But I would rather have it this way.
The way Nip and Sam were doing it,
from the very ground up.
Then I'd just use youtube. It's 2024. Restricting music is over. No matter how people feel about it.
@@timgonzales2891 facts RUclips music is how I listen to all music. I’m not downloading from nobodies website.
Well you can blame Napster, Limewire, uTorrent and other file sharing programs for your idea never being lucrative. Although it makes sense
Feel free to pay for albums again, bro. I'm not and neither is anybody else.
I like that they put 21 savage in thumbnail because he the number #1 capper when it comes to being honest about fam and the music business.....leading the black community down the wrong road....13:26
My homeboy put out records with Pharcyde, Anderson Paak, played solo shows at house of blues, and even flew out to Australia to play at Sydney opera house. All those years he kept working as a cook and now has his own restaurant.
The entertainment game seems to choose you not the other way around.
Peace to y’all always fresh. Appreciate all your hard work and grind. Alonzo Williams dropped a gem the other day. He said he would rather have peace of mind than have a peice of ass at his age. One love to the triple OG. Peace
It's why I stopped with this music shit. Even on a local/regional level shit was tedious AF.
This dude signed a 360 deal
And only thing the label gave him was 90k
I'm staying self made

The music industry always has been and always will be corrupt. That's why so many artists go independent. Even today most artists have no idea about the industry and how contracts work etc and they just happy to get a deal and the labels know this. That is why most artists have short careers because it is more profitable for label to keep cycling in new inexperienced talent and dump them when they gain knowledge and demand more money better contracts etc. The really talented ones have longevity but a very small percentage.
The record labels are investing in you to make them money. The record labels are not recording you for free.
Even with a 9/5 people still get in your business.
You dont have no business thats why you working a 9-5 Your life is boring af nobody cares abt your average joe life nobody tryna ruin your relationship with your favorite gurls no body tryna hurt you just for existing nobody tryna hatass your family for information as small as what you ate today
They charging you for licking a stamp 😂😂😂
@@pharoah1200 lmaoo
😂😂😂
Rappers biggest mistakes are is understanding equity. Those Contracts are financial instruments that are traded to raise capital for the company and artist if they know what’s going on and have a broker
Rappers need a union.
@@neckchopman Canibus spoke about a union in Hip Hop years ago in an interview.
They need to stop putting value in the wrong shit.
Those white devils would never create a union for rappers
*back in 1998, i was watching "CHANNEL O" it was African equivalent of BET, if not better.*
i remember seeing EIGHT and DAZ, performing HIT THE FLOOR, we started talking about money, the Guy i was seating with, told me how, these GUYS (Rappers) are extremely Rich (i believed him, cause he was older than me, and he have travelled abroad a lot)... now seeing Mc Eight saying otherwise, i'm scratching my head, anyway i was 14, i didn't know any better.

It was dope seeing MC EIHT on ROADIUM RADIO with TONY A. 🔥✌🏼
Any profession that has the word master. Can't be good.
Eihy you are bringing back memories when you mentioned thise magazines you are really taking me back to the 80s i remember being a kid in grade school 8 or 9 years old reading those magazines in the front of vons, ralphs and Luckys in 88 or 89 that was all we had to read about information on our favorite rappers and r&b singers growing up
Yep it seem like bone thugs in harmony are in Minnesota every other year
What up Bigg Steele, I see you, my brother. Great show! From your boy Juneski aka Killa On The Beat!
I love Old School Wisdom. Preach Brothers! Preach!!!
Ironic. I was bumping Section 8 at work few days ago.
The first minute when first OG was speaking immediately opened my eyes. I’ve never heard it discussed like this. I mean kind of but not as clear.
I worked in the music industry and Eiht tells nothing but truth. Artist do not make money off their record sales. Most times they are not even making a full dollar on each record sold. This is why artist are pressured to make these pop friendly records and cross over. The artist make most money off touring as Eiht said and live off credit cards.
But with the technology social media start you own on line label LLC produce your self put 2 songs on steaming service and your whole album on your online record label direct to consumer sales.
14:10 - 14:16 I recall Pac spoke on rappers being unionized
Pac never said that Pimp C did

Regular workers have problems to face as well.
How do you conduct an interview with someone who keeps their head down for the first 90 seconds of the interview?
I keep telling you, "that entertainment money is not real ".
You get me 😂
Eiht should start his own podcast because that dude, Steele, talks too much in every video.

Thats why you shouldn't sign to no damn label. Do as much as you can yourself, hire a pro bono mofo for the other stuff, and you better off
Was eigt falling asleep??
Rap, and Rock on its way down. Country music on its way up. Facts..Look it up
Country-POP is coming up... It's far removed from what country was in the 80s and 90s. Some of it includes electronic elements like keyboards & autotun e and rock guitars. Taylor Swift has incorporated everything in her music, is she even country any more?
These dudes have no spiritual discernment at all…
Looks like the one whose really getting the cool deal is the record label. The artist is like a middle man and does all the grunt work and has to pay for overpriced services to the label. Its the ultimate setup...
Chyeah.........
TLC let us know how this really goes.
