This was pretty much how my grandma learned Spanish. She moved from Germany to Puerto Rico to live with my grandfather. He then had to go to the Korean War and she was left with his family in Puerto Rico who only spoke Spanish. My grandma learned Spanish from being around them and listening to them talk every day.
I just discovered your channel a couple of days ago while trying to find good comprehensible input in spanish, since I'm a complete beginner. I don't think a better channel for beginners in Spanish exists out there! My goal is to watch 30 min of your videos per day at the very least (which is really easy since your content is so entertaining). Thanks for all the effort you put into your videos!
@@Travis_Marshall Hey Travis! My progress is going really well, I can't complain. I'd say that I've reached the B2 level now after a good year of learning. Only a few days after writing this initial comment I decided to watch 90 minutes of Spanish per day. After a couple of months I could already listen to intermediate podcasts (which I still do) and nowadays I often watch TV shows in Spanish.
@@Sean-tj5cu wow, thanks for making me rediscover my old comment! I would say that l have a C1 now. My goal for next year is to pass the DELE C2 exam! I could've progressed a lot faster, but until the end of last year my primary language was French and l have passed the official C2 exam!
Your theory is correct. Great video too. The most difficulty for me is not in understanding the meanings or pronunciation of individual words but the meanings and how to throw many words in together. You're video is challenging in just the right way though since it combines easy words in many different ways, challenging my brain to put them together in every different way. Children love putting things together and taking them apart, but adults often frown on it and discourage it and by the time a child matures they have to have their whole world neatly ordered and static and it takes a huge effort to reorganize at the basic level.
Pablo, I can't thank you enough for providing this story and book link. I read most of it, and it has completely convinced me that your methods are correct. From today, I will be cutting out all of my speaking and reading practice, and focus 100% on listening (mainly with your videos) until I have near-native comprehension. I learned Russian the "wrong way," trying to speak and read from day 1. I can speak like a fluent foreigner (B2) but I have massive problems with pronunciation and grammar to this day. It's so bad that I don't even like speaking. Hopefully with your channel I can avoid making the same mistakes with Spanish.
It's the same way everyone (95% más o menos) here in Nepal learn the language, right from small age we watch Hindi cartoons , and then series, movies, etc but we never try to learn Hindi but I can say only being 18 years old , still I can understand native speakers speaking in their own way due to the massive amount of input I have received till now , so from my own experience, I am 200% sure that I will be able to acquire Spanish watching content from your channel, muchas gracias por publicar esto
I'd love to watch videos where you show us how to make Spanish food, such as Spanish omelettes, do you think that's a possibility? Muchas gracias!
Hola Pablo.
Great video Pablo. I've followed you for years, from beginner to advanced. By the way, you mentioned you were developing a website on the 'No Hay Tos' podcast i think, is this still going ahead? Cheers
@@dennishinze9578 Keep listening and reading. I'm on to entirely native content now. I'm really into politics and economics, so I read the news, books and listen to current affairs podcasts. I've done about 1000 hours of listening. I will probably start to speak around 1500 hours.
Hi Pablo, could you recommend any academic papers on language learning via comprehensible input? I don't doubt the method in the least (I've learned much more in ~150 hours of listening than I did in ~150 hours of conventional study), but I'd still like to read the research to satisfy my inner curiosity about language learning. Thanks for all the great videos!
Hi Pablo,I can't if you mentioned whether it's good to read and listen to the audiobook at the same time? I know many language learners say it's very good when extensive reading. But I'm guessing that we'd need it to be very comprehensible too, correct? And I imagine that silent reading concentrates the brain more too. Did you do this when acquiring Japanese?
I'm undecided about that and about watching with matching subtitles. In general, it's almost always a bad idea to try to do two things at the same time, but I need to read more research about the topic.
