This interview is solely to help people optimize their carnivore diets. There is no other agenda. In terms of the RDAs, while the daily value needs may not always be accurate, they are the gold standard in how we measure nutrients. It doesn't matter if we believe in the Daily Value needs but you can see the difference in copper vs. iron, B12 amounts, and vitamin A vs D, E, and K in foods. Those differences don't have anything to do with Daily Values but imbalances in these foods. You can find the graphic I'm sharing here: nutritionwithjudy.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/NwJ-Carnivore-Diets-Analysis.pdf and my blog posts here about risks of excess vitamin A: nutritionwithjudy.com/liver-and-risks-of-vitamin-a-toxicity/ and about not just eating beef: nutritionwithjudy.com/dont-eat-just-beef/ and my post on why conventional chicken and pork are safe in consideration of PUFAs: nutritionwithjudy.com/the-truth-about-pufas-polyunsaturated-fatty-acids/
The key to consuming any meat is adequate fat. Fat drives so much of the benefits. There is no need to overengineer macros, RDAs etc. Also - fat consumption by default trigers higher satiety, hence reducing over consumption of protein. Problem solved.
@TruthSeeking Endless as I gather from docs which I am not, bile tends to signal body when to stop fat consumption and vise versa. One of the body balancimg mechanisms. Like satiety. You have to listen and ensure eating isnt emotional. Emotional eating is like taking drugs. In this case the drug is sugar.
The thing is, the RDA's are not optimal amounts for super good health. They are the bare minimum amounts recommended so you cannot really go by that. You should just go by how you feel. From what I've learned thus far, the RDA's recommended amts are too low and need to be revamped based on recent research.
It's funny I've heard many in t he carnivore community say the exact opposite when it comes to vitamins / minerals that are harder to get on carnivore diets like vitamin e or magnesium. I've heard many carnivores say they don't need as much vitamins because they are carnivore, but there is literally no evidence for this.
Exactly.. really like Judy for this! ..So many of the big names in the carnivore are like fanatics.. "Who likes veggies anyway!?!" *mocking laughter* ..Hate that!! ..I'm missing my fruit n veggies SOOOO much.. I'm doing this to try and heal Crohn's disease!
The thing I would like to point out is that we are basing the RDAs on a figure that is set by the government based on a carbohydrate based diet. We don't actually know what our requirements for nutrients are on a carnivore based diet. We know that it is lower for vitamin C, so why not for others. I agree with not eating liver, it triggers my autoimmune symptoms so I either have high vitamin a, or my body very quickly tells me it's not good for me.
I sometimes eat lambs liver. My body very quickly tells me when is enough. I slice it thin (10mm-3/8") and sear it in a hot pan in butter or dripping. First couple of slices it's ambrosia. By slice 3-4 I get that satiated feeling.
I share some examples in Carnivore Cure (e.g., how they came up with vitamin C amounts) but it doesn't take away from how copper vs zinc or vitamin A vs the other fat soluble vitamins are imbalanced with liver.
I'd like to know when is the last time anyone sampled the various animal foods we eat to get their vitamin and mineral profile and do it wild vs pastured vs barn raised.
I absolutely love how dedicated you are to helping people and spreading knowledge to everyone. I love the fact that you commit so much time to just researching this stuff and then sharing it with us. Thank you so much! You are one of my top 5 carnivore/proper nutrition people to follow because I honestly learn so much from you, and everything I have learned, and continue to learn, from you continues to help improve my health over all (physically, mentally, and emotionally). You are a blessing to all of us! Thank you, once more!
Thank you, Jessica. I am here to serve because I got my life back with a meat-only diet and I firmly believe we all have the right to live optimally. ♥
I’m not sure if I agree with the copper thing. IUD copper is a toxic form of copper though that isn’t the same thing as regular chelated copper, and people had copper pipes for years without showing any copper toxicity symptoms. Iron is what’s added to grains and glyphosate does ceruloplasmin damage needed to use copper. But that’s not necessarily copper toxicity it could be iron overload blocking the bodies ability to use copper. The adrenal function effects the protein needed to use copper and iron has been found overloaded in many different organs including in breast cancer and in the spleen. And I don’t know if a hair mineral test gives a full picture. In the same sense sometimes people think they are low on iron when it’s just low in the blood serum not in the cell and when it gets too high they body struggles to use it and then it appears as low. The full Monty is the series of tests that may give a clearer idea of true iron status and something like that would maybe be better for copper also to get four or five tests and then triangulate using all of them to get a rough idea of status.
I have been carnivore for 5 years. The only time I ever had issues with it was when I tried liver. I had heart palpitations, anxiety, extreme thirst. Wasn't sure it was the liver, so I tried a tiny bit a week later to confirm. Yep it was the liver.
You might be getting too much of something in it. I ate liver today for the first time and feel pretty good. I might have had a deficiency, but I'm unsure of what
@Ebrahim Samirali That's possible, if it was in the process of filtering toxins, but liver doesn't store toxins, so there shouldn't be build up there. But I'm just going by what I googled
This is fascinating! Got me thinking about raw vs. freeze dried vs. cooked. I have been keto/carnivore for 2 years. I was eating small amounts, an ounce or so, of raw beef, bison, elk or free-range chicken liver once or twice a week and feeling great. I can't stomach liver when cooked. Though I find it much more palatable raw, I never really liked the taste of it raw either, so early this year I found a freeze-dried, powdered beef liver and ordered gelatin capsules to put it in to bypass my taste buds. I felt OK for the first few weeks of taking those capsules daily, but lately I've been getting joint pain, heart palpitations, anxiety, that feeling of extreme thirst, desperate cravings for salt, very similar to the symptoms you described. My eczema which had nearly cleared completely has also been flaring badly. Is it that freeze dried comes with no water, and therefore no water-soluble vitamins, throwing off the natural balance we get with raw? Cooking also damages water-soluble vitamins. And, since I'm bypassing the digestive mechanism that would stop me from eating too much by swallowing capsules rather than eating, I believe I must be giving myself inadvertent overdoses of the minerals Judy talked about. This is so helpful! I'll stop that liver powder immediately, and I'm going back to occasional raw once these awful symptoms go away.
Looking at this again, I'm reminded that some RUclips videos are actual goldmines of fundamental data and guiding principles. This is one of them! You might want to give it pride of place in some way on your channel. BTW, using Paul vs. Shawn is PERFECT. Both great thought leaders, and both honest enough to share their data (why wouldn't they!?). You did a great job being fair both, and helping remove all the ego that clouds their diet advice.
Thank you for this incredible insight. I love learning from everyone in this field, but I have personally found your perspective to be so fresh and informative. It's greatly appreciated because I can definitely see you're not seeking to prove that anyone else is incorrect, you are however, providing a fresh set of eyes, a careful consideration of all things you're presently aware of. Essentially, you're using your mind to provide a critical review of all aspects of an argument and this is so important in the present cancel culture. There's no malice in this, you're presenting the facts as you see them and this gives us all cause to pause and consider this in more detail. Thank you.
Well done! Posted this in my 40+ carnivores group Guides for permanency, it will surely raise a ruckus. I stopped eating liver a couple years ago, and do not recommend supplements, either. My blood counts are excellent. People need to get wise to this. I wish Dr Berry would, he influences so many. Thank you, Judy!
The fact that you treat people in your practice gives you so much information that others are just guessing at. It's fantastic that you share this with us all. I'd sign up for your version of chronometer!
Judy, thanks for not backing down in the face of criticism and continuing to shed light on the huge problem of hypervitaminosis A for some carnivores. Realizing that one small component (organ meat, especially liver) of this diet can be the main reason this woe isn’t working for some allows us to better troubleshoot instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water, so to speak.
I too was critical of her criticism of organ meat and supplements. But my criticism was simply a response to the argument being almost entirely anecdotal. It felt too speculative. I'm more convinced now that she is presenting stronger evidence as part of a more well articulated argument. She is improving the persuasiveness of her analysis of the potential problems of hypervitaminosis on the carnivore diet.
@@MarmaladeINFP Yes. That’s what I meant to say 😃👍. I still eat some liver once or twice a week though, because I like it. Especially with bacon and egg!
Love this - as always. Thank you for being brave enough to share, not censoring yourself, and allowing us to each make the decision that's best for us. Something today's world is NOT doing. I am deeply grateful for your courage and honesty! Love the content and helping me to learn.
it's also very hard to know what is best for us. I'm 45 and JUST learning about some of my genetic issues that make it a HUGE no no to consume certain things.... it's hard to find truth
Excellent video Judy! I ate 1-2 pounds of liver and several tbsp of cod liver oil for months, and have never felt sicker. The joint pains was excruciating, a deep aching in my bones, and I got worse and worse. I am sure it was vitamin a toxicity. This was done after being on a meat only carnivore diet for a year, which I felt amazing on. I followed paleo medicinas pkd diet, and their recommendations of consuming large amounts of liver every week. I am back to strict meat only carnivore, and I'm feeling much better now.
So glad you are healing. I have clients that have worked with the PKD team and while I respect a lot of their work, it doesn't work for some people (and can cause worsening effects for some). We must always trust our own bodies and the cues it gives us.
I ate half pound or 8 ounce of beef liver for several months and that was a big mistake. That was over 2 years ago. I now only eat about 1 ounce of beef liver per day or less and doing great.
@@johnkarni according to judys numbers I think 7 grams would be the max amount a day and maybe closer to 5 grams depending on what else you eat containing vit a copper and zinc. It’s tricky math and it’s late so my brain isn’t wanting to do the exact math between the three nutrients and different foods.
That was a well balanced review of nutritional requirement and how to approach it. I’m not full carnivore, but try to get majority of my nutrition from animal sources, in fact my diet is similar to your approach. Beef, belly pork, salmon, herring, eggs, nuts and occasional liver. I’m reassured I’m on the right track. Just a thought about minerals and micronutrients, prior to 20th century we would have gotten an amount of elementary minerals from drinking water, now filtered out, so I supplement some minerals. Also follow the mantra “it’s not what you eat, it’s what you can absorb” so also think it is important to look after your gut biome.
Personally I need liver and beef to get my iron higher. I went lion diet for 6 weeks and it helped me so much. I consume small amounts of liver, but not everyday. My doctor is thrilled with my results. I stopped iron pills a week in and the results bright me now to borderline, 49. I know beef only isn't for everyone. I plan to rotate one month on a month or 2 off.
Thank you, Judy! You are the best. This is a keeper which I will share over and over again in the variety of Carnivore forums to which I belong. Makes so much sense. Always thought the excess amounts of liver were ancestrally erroneous. Simple logic. The same with honey...no one would have daily access to tbsps of honey year-round. Logic rules!
Thank you, Judy!! You are a breath of fresh air to press into all aspects of nutritional eating, and not be dogmatic and agenda driven to try and prove one side over the other. Your voice is critical to the ongoing carnivore discussion. You're a voice I've come to trust. Thank you for your thorough work and high standards.
RDA is highly questionable especially in the absence of sugars/starch. Even more so when the information is provided by as you say "the government". Great video and thanks for sharing your observations and experiences from your clients.
Loved this explanation! Very comprehensive and to the point. I intuitively stopped eating liver after about 5 meals within two weeks of it. I’m happy I listened to my body and didn’t force it.
Great information, thank you. Have been Keto 3+ years and just went carnivore. Feeling very good. This video really cleared the air for me. I really enjoy you, Paul S., Chaffee, Baker, and Berry. It's an ancient "diet" but relatively new science. Appreciate all of you for bringing this amazing way of life to all of us.
Thank you. This was so easy to understand and makes so much sense. I came into this so malnourished that I decided right from the beginning I was going to include a variety to try to make up for all that I was missing. I’m so glad I did.
Judy, this made an enormous amount of sense. You presented facts and kept it professional as usual. I applaud you for making such bold, and in my opinion very astute, hypothesis. I believe if the other doctors take what you laid out and tried some variants for science sake it will help us all to find more accurate advice. We'll done Judy!! Thank you!!
I tried carnivore diet and Keto for 2 months along with intermittent fasting. I Had to stop because it started to develop weird issues. I was not sick or feeling anything unusual but noticed foaming urine that never happened in the past, never. After stopping meat and chicken liver diet, I returned back to my mediterranean diet. The foaming urine gone!!!! Human body with long colon intestine is not supposed to be carnivore. In nature Creatures with short colon are carnivores, like tigers, eagle birds, hawks, for example have short colon for faster digestion than elephant, horses, small birds that have long colon are vegetarian, and supposed to consume on fiber and plants, nuts, veggies. Same with human.
@@Hippy2021 you know nothing about the stuff youre talking about. dunning kruger! we already know what is the species appropriate diet of humans. we know this because of the nitrogen isotope tests done on prehistoric human remains. we see what they ate. guess what, they were hypercarnivore! its not even up to debate anymore. we see this in the anthropological record. humans DONT have a long colon and a have a SMALL cecum. our colon and cecum are much smaller than true herbivores. we also dont have a large multichambered stomach and a long gastro intestinal tract designed for plant eating. our stomach is also very acidic. far more acidic than true herbivores. i improved my health with a carnivore diet. i dont have foaming urine or any health issues. ive never been very unhealthy my whole life, however, i am far healthier now than before. plant based diets are harmful. my parents had a plant heavy diet and they had numerous health issues till the end. there are real reasons why most peopIe who go plant based end up quitting later on. its because plant based diets are nutrient deficient and toxic at the same time. look at all those horror stories of peopIe destroying their health with plant based diets. there are more ex-plant based diet peopIe than there are plant based diet peopIe.
I am really glad I found this. I have started transitioning from keto to carnivore (about 85% of the way there) and have been really struggling with the idea of only eating ruminant animals, especially since I feel SO good after eating fish and I do like pork. This is the first time in my life I feel I can be successful at more ketovore/carnivore though I have been off and on keto for years. I do better on higher protein and lower fat than the other way around, but I had my gallbladder removed years ago. I like liver, but I usually only eat about 2 to 3 oz a week. The word I think is critical here is BALANCE. I feel better when I am in balance.
This had some good info, I was skeptical at first based on the title and based on some of the comments cuz I thought you were going to say you were anti carnivore/keto, but this is very smart. Also I feel like there's a lot of common sense behind it too because liver only makes up so much of an animal, so I highly doubt hunter-gatherers were eating a lot of liver every single day.
This video provides such important information that need to be talked about more often. Thanks so much for the time and efforts you have dedicated into this research to help people, Judy!
I used to eat Liver 20g/day 5 days a week. I used it early on. I started to feel worse after a year, so I stopped it. I currently eat Beef, chicken, pork, eggs, milk, cheese, every day. I eat seafood (sub out chicken/pork) 2-3x a week as well.
Appreciate your perspective. I really give no credence in government recommend amounts/limits for vitamins & minerals. The official government positions has been wrong on so many things - including the proper human diet.
Something to seriously consider is how accurate the recommended daily allowances are. If the people that figured out are recommended daily allowances are the same people that figured out our food pyramid then I take their information with a huge mountain of salt. How would we know we are straining our livers?
This is a great conversation to continue diving into as meat eating populations are not well studied. Nutrient values (RDA, DV%) established by the USDA are based on more of a carb-based population (started with soldiers in the 40's) so we really don't know what high/low limits are much less how these nutrients are handled by long term carnivore dieters vs carb-based dieters. The current reference points might give us valuable information when taken into context with other variables - this is where we are now - trying to figure that out. Great insight, Judy! In terms of anthropology, our ancestors who are frequently referenced by Saladino et al did not eat liver every day! Yes it was revered in many cultures, but not consumed daily - nor was fruit as it was seasonal (except for the ice age where there was none!) Cycling a variety of meats, including organs sparingly makes sense (once you are healed.) I've had exceptional results with a full elimination approach using beef only 4-12 weeks followed by re-introduction.
Thank you Judy for "wearing your big girl pants" ! I truly appreciate your input, and profoundly respect what you propose, as well as how you communicate it to us. It's vital information and feel privileged to have recently found (ie youtube's algorithm) your channel. Keep backing you up with evidence and solid credible guests. It's the only mature and respectful way.. I was vegan for 15 yrs, now transitioning to Carnivore because of health issues. Without folks like you, I'd be at a loss.
Judy you are so much smarter than all the beefhead men on RUclips. I stopped eating liver 8 months ago and feel better already. Super cool video 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻 and good luck with the haters 😂😂
What beefhead men eat liver on YT? Idk one lol In fact everyone stresses so much, NO SUPERFOOD (offal) needed. Not even meat broth which is soooo important. I don’t think any offal is needed overmuch but if ur scairt of liver then eat heart, kidney, marrow, tongue… Not daily or maybe even weekly but they were always eaten.
Thank you for your analytical approach this subject. There is so much "bro science" in this space, so it is really refreshing to hear from a properly qualified nutritionist. Thank you for adding your perspective to this fascinating experiment that we are running on our health.
I really liked the presentation. Very articulate and well spoken. One idea I would like to question is the whole "more is better" argument. Is more vitamins always better for us? Is a vitamin balance really what matters? The problem with too much knowledge of nutrients can possibly obscure the big picture. Do we really scientifically completely understand how all nutrients react in our bodies and with each other? If you think about it, the whole idea of the importance of organ meat consumption comes from the fact that they have more vitamins, or the more is better argument. I noticed a strong group think aspect to the importance of organ meat consumption. Up until recently, until I found the two interviews you did last year with Grant Genereux and Garret Smith, I could not find anybody who did not believe in organ meat dogma, or even spoke up about it, so I made my own videos questioning organ meat consumption. I learned something about health that literally nobody understands. I call it 'The Dr Richard Johnson Lesson'. What I learned is that biological science is basically useless unless it is seen through and evolutionary lens. I came to understand that instinct is basically never wrong. We tend to always see nutrition and health through a purely scientific point of view. The only problem with this way of thinking is that us humans are not scientific life forms. We were not created by Dr Frankenstein. We are evolutionary creatures, created by nature. Our instincts are our internal survival road map, we evolved them for a reason. Our instincts were evolved to keep us perfectly healthy in our natural environment. The way Dr Johnson was able to answer the fructose paradox (why is fructose bad for us while it tastes so good) was because he used science to look at fructose from and evolutionary perspective. That's why I'm such a huge fan of his, and know that he's basically correct is because his theory makes evolutionary sense. I also see organ meat consumption from this same perspective. If organ meats are so good for us, why don't they look, taste or smell good? My instincts tell me that organ meats, and especially liver are not food. Unless I crave them, I just don't eat them because instinct tells me they are not food. If I'm wrong and instinct is not correct, then how did we survive 99.9 percent of our existence on this planet before we even had science? How are animals able to stay perfectly healthy without any ability to think scientifically? Just some food for thought, keep up the great content!
I agree with you, however most people would make the argument that we can no longer rely on our instincts because they are so effed up by the environment around us. For example, my mom's instinct is to eat instant noodles with sunflower oil fried vegetables, and she feels bad whenever she eats meat (her words). That's also instinct.
This woman does her research. She even knows about Frank Tufano’s mineral hair analysis. He used to be one of the first few RUclipsrs on Carnivore and how he quit pure carnivore after being on it for 8+ years on it due to the liver damage and other deficiencies while being 100% Beef and liver carnivore. 👏
Frank Tufano is a troll - he’s doing SAD now and promote supplements and packaged things. Try to watch his few videos - he never eats anything. Big doubts about the reason of his tests - the guy might be heavy drinker or something. People who eat carnivore won’t drink sugary water and eat chips unless suicidal
Been eating liver for about 2 years 3 times a week, out of poverty. Taking a break from it, just mince n eggs for a while. I had no obvious problems from it, but glad to have seen this...
YES! YES! YES! Great work Judy! I am becoming a bigger fan of your work each time I watch/read your content. Keep up the good work! You are helping people! Could you go a little deeper into why Paul and others are feeling better with the addition of carbs and why this is only a bandaid solution which in itself will only cause more issues down the road? Thanks!
Thank you, Judy. This video demonstrates to me that you are not someone who simply takes what other people say what you should eat, but always question why we should eat a certain way. I appreciate your how you come to your conclusion about eating too much liver. I am in agreement with you that we should eat more eclectically- “balance is the key, I think 😀.
Thank you Judy for speaking on this! As you know my HTMA showed high copper and chromium. I was eating 1/2 oz liver per day along with 2 different organ supplements that contain small amounts of liver. I've stopped all of that, along with chicken liver and canned cod liver. I'm likely high in vitamin A too as I took Accutane in the past. So everyone, be careful with liver and other organs! Again Judy, thank you for the work you do and your willingness to share!
The brave people at Weston Price Foundation insisted on what other food that need to be mixed with liver to have a more balanced outcome. e.g. They often mentioned having liver with food that are higher in vit D to balance the vit A. Traditional cultures also noticed this problem, limiting how much liver was eaten (once a week), and for the remaining time, eating food that balance each other. They often insist on the balance that is achieved with careful diversification. Worth considering.
Thank you Judy for sharing this information. As someone who is newer to this WOE I've been somewhat inundated with the idea that you need to be eating organ meats often to make up for lack of vitamins in muscle meat. Its great to hear another knowledgeable person's thoughts about this. Thank you
Just eat what you enjoy and a variety (if you can). If you are healing, then don't worry about the rest. Only look further and deeper if you need it. For many of us, we don't have to.
@@NutritionwithJudy We are not out here trying to force people into "Our truth". We are not rioting and threatening disbelievers! We just want people the freedom of choice and a deeper discussion about health.
This information has saved me. I quit all organs , I finally not taken benadryl. I'm also living out of my fridge not freezer. I had left overs and no histamine issues. Thank you. I forsee many sick carnivores soon and you will be on top. Your amazing please don't give up its lonely at the top. Shalom
That's amazing! I'm trying to get several of my clients off the freezer foods because they can't tolerate fridge foods. One day! And I will share your story with some of them! ♥ PS. I will never give up. You are right, it can be lonely but I will always stand for the people (whether they know it or not)!

@@inthebuffwellness due to histamine issues I couldn't do fresh overnight foods out of fridge because histamine builds up on fresh foods no matter how great the food you think. So I lived out of my freezer to the skillet to eat. Hamburger was an fine line. Everything Judy has said is true. Get her book and listen to her if you plan carnivore long term. I ate alot of liver for an long time. So hopefully my liver can be healed. Be safe becareful what you choose to believe. Shalom
This was such a timely video for me since I’ve been kind of giving myself a hard time for not having lots of beef all day, every day. I tend to do eggs and bacon cooked in butter or bacon fat, chicken wings or drumsticks, salmon or sardines, and maybe a small steak or some burger patties, but what I eat is different every day. I guess I’m on track!
Just from a microbiome perspective, it’s good to have a variety of meats, I think, if your digestive system is well enough to handle it. Some people are allergic to shellfish, or eggs, for example. I have yet to hear of someone with a bad reaction to plain bacon, chicken, steak, bison, salmon, etc.
great video and analysis. I had my concerns for long term carnivore. You pretty much made things much clearer. Something just seems off to have your main source of carbs being from fruit, but Saladino introduced me to carnivore which has helped me so much
I follow my instincts. When I crave liver, bone marrow, other organ meat, or fat.... it means my body needs it. I do it for a period of time, then I go back to a typical diet. I don't pre-plan how often I will eat liver, I do it when my body calls for it. There was a time when I would eat canned cod liver in oil frequently... then after a while, I felt aversed to it. That's how I knew my body probably didn’t need it.
Same as when I crave salt and sugar and high calories on certain days of my menstrual cycle. Then it all goes away shortly. I know my body needs those at that time, so I don't fight it.
I LOVE YOUR CHANNEL JUDY! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💚💜💙 You have helped me so much and your research makes a lot of sense. 😍💕 "Keep your fear to yourself and share your courage with others." Thank you for your courage to stand by your convictions.
Judy, you made my day with this video. I have reduced my liver consumption to about 1lb every three weeks. You made me smile when discussing chicken wings and bacon. Keep up the great work. I really appreciate it.
makes so much sense! especially the last part where you tie in the common sense of how they wouldnt have had access to enormous amounts of liver like we can buy at the market... some liver here and there... and plus it had to be shared amongst the tribe
"I totally don’t understand your fear of organs. Isolated vitamins in large doses can be harmful, but not those from the liver, where vitamin A is present alongside thousands of other components necessary for its safe metabolism. Here, I’m quoting from Winston Price’s book: ‘...That’s why these tribes consume milk, blood, and meat from cattle, as well as large amounts of animals from the Nile River. Some of the tribes are very tall, particularly the Neurs. Women are often over six feet tall, and men reach heights of seven feet, with some even being as tall as seven and a half feet. I was particularly interested in their dietary habits, both because of their high resistance to dental decay (close to 100%) and their physical development. I learned that they have a belief, which for them is a religion, that every man and woman has a soul that resides in the liver, and that a person’s character and physical development depend on how well they feed that soul by eating the livers of animals. The liver is so sacred that it cannot be touched by human hands. For this reason, it is always handled with a spear or saber, or using specially prepared forks. It is consumed both raw and warm.’"
Awesome crucial pertinent information for carnivore aspirants and practitioners. Personally I Focus mostly on beef but I do like some bacon and some fish now and then so sounds like I'm on the right path. I do take some liver supplements but it's such a small amount that it is no way there's any toxicity. I really appreciate Judy's work because nobody else is doing the kind of stuff that she does. She is a godsend to those of us who are pioneering in a modern carnivore diet. THANK YOU!
This has helped me tremendously . I am SO grateful for all that you do Dr. Judy. I have stopped all eggs , liver and lessened cream and feel a huge positive difference. If I had not seen this video I would still be riddled with fatigue . Thank you Dr. Judy🥰
Thank you for this upload, Judy. Good to know these things. Very informative and makes sense. Need to be cautious about excess vitamin a and etc from liver. Need to balance consumption of different kinds of meats out ideally.
Great stuff. I would be interested in you analyzing the nutrient profiles of grass fed vs grain fed for both beef and beef liver. There is definitely a change to the nutrient profile based on the animals diet. I wonder if it improves or makes worse the vitamin imbalances?
Pretty sure the fat from grass fed retains vit E a lot more and K2 ( that can be converted into K1 ) . I think a more fatty diet with lower ammounts of protein from different sources is best. Some brain and a lot of bone marrow. Imagine finding a mammoth carcass, so much marrow and brain there, not that much liver i bet
So enlightening! Would love to see an example day of eating that meets all the nutritional markers, even it it wasn't completely carnivore. It's such a number crunch to figure out without some baseline to work from!
Sally Fallon Morell, president of the Weston A. Price Foundation, has mentioned that chicken liver has a more balanced nutritional profile, so I would be curious to know your thoughts about long term consumption of chicken liver.
Good stuff and like you, I like both saladino and Shawn baker . Another difference between the 2 is that Paul saladino promotes supplements, so he has a vested interest in pushing for liver consumption. But yeah, spot on with your analysis Judy.
btw, for those who have been eating pork liver. the iron content is much high than beef liver. you might also end up with iron toxicity especially if youre not getting enough taurine and is sedentary.
Judy, thank you for this video. I´m from Argentina, in my country people eat liver once a month, barbecue that includes organs that are not liver once a week, and muscle meat during the week, including poultry and fish. We are heavy meat eaters, and we never have cases of toxicity. It seems that is not in the US culture to eat organ meats and that´s why they are overconsuming. I would love to know your thoughts on beef brains as they are extremely high in omega 3. Thank you again for all the information you provide.
Such a great talk. thanks. You really helped me look at my liver consumption, as it was daily along with kidney and testicles... So easy to jump on the bandwagon of 'Nutrient Dense Organs' and think more is better when in fact it just may be the balance of it all. This can be very difficult for those who believe they have made the right choice. It would be interesting for you to look at some other long time carnivores blood work, like Kelley Hogan etc. and see what you can see,, as it just may be that their meat only diet is balanced enough to provide optimal health?
Kelly Hogan, and I smile, really eats a lot of cheap hamburger patties like from MacDonalds, she looks and feels terrific. Her blood work is super, not sure if she’s ever had hair analysis. After 10 years she has figured out WHAT SHE NEEDS. Every time someone brags about their grass fed, grass finished beef and pasture raised eggs, I cringe. So many cannot afford panda massaged foods to quote Dr Ken Berry and so many currently on SAD need to get off it. Bragging about your premium foods only frustrates and even deters some of the most needy. Eat what you can afford, to quote Dr. Berry and cut those carbs out! In the vegetarian community super foods are sickening folks, now we see it in some carnivores. I think Judy has it right, moderation and variety. Fortunately my ketovore choices are cleaning out my oxalate intoxication and I am on my way to good health. I am thankful for Judy’s passion for the truth, especially when she is willing to go with the research even when it changes her ideas and for Dr Berry’s no nonsense, common sense and research based approach to using good nutrition to PREVENT chronic disease. For an MD, he is a gem!
@@barblacy619 Personally I have never heard anyone brag or boast about their choice of grass fed... But since you brought it up, I will add here what I've said before. If one cares to, take a trip to a large feedlot. I say Large because if you're buying from Chain stores, then most likely that beef you're buying is coming from Large feed lots (think thousands of cows living extremely close to each other). Go there with the intent to use your senses, all of them. I suggested this to Charles Washington back in the day... He said he already had. Have always wondered if he really had, or maybe it was a local small feedlot in his area. I don't think any of us know whether or not the continual use of antibiotics and growth stimulators, or grain grown with gmo's pesticides, herbicides etc, or the blood imbalances caused by feeding animals grain instead of grass will effect us. But I do know that animals do suffer in these conditions. YOur senses will tell you that within minutes. Personally, I choose to support grass fed farmers and support the methods they use, not only for the sake of the cows but for my own health and in hopes of helping to reverse feedlot practices, the take over of small ranchers by big agribusinesses, and just as importantly to maintain the health of our soils and a potential carbon neutral footprint from sustainable cattle farming. So, to end with, I think there's more to think about than just how cheaply one buys one's beef and how healthy we seem to be.
@@van123446 Bless you for caring! I have slept in my cousins home across the street from a feedlot! Not frightened of Covid not frightened of the concerns about how we feed our cows. They are ruminate and I’ll let that rattle around your brain. Heightened anxiety about trivia has become a cultural norm I do not buy into. Common sense needs to return. But out of common courtesy I do thank you for your concern for my welfare. I pray your anxiety will quell as you age and realize life is to be enjoyed. I enjoy mine because when I check out, heaven will be SO MUCH BETTER. In the meantime, the money I could spend on panda massaged cows goes to charities that feed starving street children in Third world countries. Please let us agree to disagree! The world needs more tolerance and less totalitarian rule.
Born in 50s UK liver was nothing unusal. We had it once a week through the winter months, usually gently pan fried or casseroled along with pieces of streaky bacon and onions in a rich gravy. This was served alongside buttery mashed potatoes and greens. It was considered a nourishing winter dish. I still love liver as a now 68 year old carnivore, once a week still with bacon, without the mash etc. I've never weighed it - I just cook a thin slice of two. Yummy 😋
I grew up eating liver as a kid too. We had it at least once a week. Either as dumplings in the soup or breaded liver, or pan-fried with onions and some kind of sauce. As a 5 year carnivore, I've eaten liver without a problem. I don't eat it every day, not even every week but at least twice a month and have no problems whatsoever. I think many overdo it. When it was the IN thing to eat as a carnivore people just thought more is better and had it every day. I'm 57 years old female. I'll keep eating liver whenever I fancy it. I like the taste. I just pan fry it in butter now, easy, fast, delicious.
Love my calves liver, 2 thin slices, at least once every 2 weeks with onions. Yum. I am carnivore 1 year and 9 months. Still healing. This is the life. 🥰
Counter-point : human beings have been eating organ meats for millions of years, and know what in native tribes hunters actually seek out the organs first as they are the most nutrient dense. So obviously eating liver itself isn't harmful. Maybe the quantity you eat might be the problem ?
If we went by the experts recommendations, we would be eating a loaf of bread, cereal, and and cakes every day. Not to mention potatoes, rice, sugar and oils. I have a bit of trouble believing anything that is listed by the experts.
Makes sense to me 🤷♀️ I know nutrition can be tricky person to person but I feel like people really enjoy complicating simple systems. Personally, not having to worry about budgeting in liver supplements and CLO sounds great and I’m very appreciative of this work!
so glad that the carnivore community has someone as methodical as you, i'm learning a lot. Edit: May I ask if your patients ever have issues with factory farmed pork vs grass fed? I cannot really afford grass fed everything, but I suspect/hope that factory farmed pork is still worth eating. I'll give it a try and find out, your nutrient analysis is eye opening
@@hyrunnisa997 Sounds about right :) Excited to try pork belly, I've never been a pork eater but I do love meat! Also nice to hear (in another post maybe) that Chicken Wings are a good source of nutrients 😁
I was on the fence when I first came across you Judy ..originally came across Shawn about 2 years ago when I was tired of always having stomach pain and uncomfort meat only and keto has helped soooooo much but now I’m having trouble figuring out how to do this long term long story short I’m now a fan and grateful for all you guys trying to help with proper Nutrition and health 👍
Thank you. I will always try to be honest and ethical with everything I share. We are sharing content that can affect people's lives and I will never, ever take that lightly. Thank you for being open ♥
For my family we eat a variety of meats and some low carbohydrate vegetables and about once every 2 to 3 weeks a serving of legumes. At least once a week we eat ground bison or ground grassfinished beef that has 7% liver and 3% heart mixed in. I eat eggs daily and I eat herring and or muscles daily at breakfast. Additionally venison, elk, wild boar and pastured pork is consumed regularly as well as pasture raised slow growth chicken. Variety is the spice of life 😊. Hard cheese - cows, sheep and goat is also a regular part of our diet as well as Greek Yogurt for my wife.
@@NutritionwithJudy Judy my wife and I have been following you, Doc Baker, Dr. Cywes and Dr. Berry for awhile, my wife definitely prefers your approach.
You make so much sense , the Tuffano/Aurelius/Saladino adding carbs got my head in a spin at the same time you have people like Joe and Charlene Anderson (whom would be great to intervue) going on 25 years as carnivore with no health issue. You are my new carnivore superhero :) Also i would like you to intervue Dr Wahls who had a talk with Saladino and in the segment of liver she warned about to much A vit and recomended once a week or 2 week between liver meals
Thank you so much Judy for diving more in depth of this. It makes so much sense that more of something good is not always better. So many of us think we can help our bodies faster if we do more of a good Thing. Balance is key. The nutrient profiles are so helpful and it is about bio individuality. There will definitely be more sick carnivores that will need help and guidance.
I mean, this makes sense. Our ancestors weren’t eating organ meats everyday. Anything in excess is bad. I’m thinking of incorporating small amounts of organ meat every week for an extra boost
Thank you for the video. This is great! My takeaway is that we are all different, and we need to take charge of our health. Having different points of view is important because it should make you think and help your decision on which direction to take your health.
I love liver, but I've known for ages that eating a lot of it would result in too much vitamin A, so don't eat loads of it or that often. Didn't know the copper/zinc ratios though. So I think I've been right with what I've been doing-including it every so often in a meal, not treating it like a daily/weekly staple-but will continue to reassess as time and health goes on.
Omigosh I really needed this video! I ate a bunch of beef liver and salmon for dinner tonight and maybe an hour later, I felt really tired and my muscles felt achy. I couldn't figure out why... I recently started carnivore and have felt amazing but never felt like this before. I truly believe God brought this video to my recommendations as a sign to slow down haha. I'm trying to get pregnant and wanted to get more folates in my diet to prevent birth defects... This shows that I need to really pay attention to the amount of meats I eat and how too much of one can be harmful. I gotta do more research for sure... Thank you so much again!!!
Could not agree more Judy~ it's absolutely acceptable~valuable even~to have differing opinions. Considering the fact that we do have varied experiences & responses in life, it stands to reason that it's not always going to be "one size fits all". The idea is to do our own research, take in all of the amazing & helpful info that others care to share, & then use ourselves as the ultimate experiment. "Root cause healing" is key to overall health, imho, so it's great that so many want to- & do- take this approach. Appreciate your time and effort in this presentation, as well as your other work~ Thank you! Have a great weekend~ Samantha in AZ
I can't say I put much value in the RDAs but your analysis is nontheless very interesting and gives a nice overview. The visuals were clear and informative, especially the one around ~15.00. I am glad I found your video and have now subscribed!
Pure red meat carnivore diet is really not for everyone. I hate that some influencer even showing how they eat 1 stick of butter everyday without addressing the pros and cons. I alternately do lamb, sardines, duck, chicken, occasionally eggs. My healing mostly takes place during longer or extended fasting. Otherwise, my diet geared on carnivore principles, just not red meat or beef liver. Carnivore or not, everything boils down to eating in moderation.
Thank you. Keep speaking the truth. I love chicken wings and will add them back to my diet once a week. Lol.
I thought RDA studies were based on mice, they were never done on humans.
I like making pate like my Paleo themed pate, but it's on occasion s only and I like using cod livers for it, but again, it's only on occasions.
Thank you. Because of your input, the carnivore community is more balanced, less dogmatic.
Exactly.. really like Judy for this! ..So many of the big names in the carnivore are like fanatics..
I think a deep dive should really be done about RDA, how they arrived at those limits, and how much trust we should put in it.
Amber O'hearn has one video about it. She explain it very well.
I share some examples in Carnivore Cure (e.g., how they came up with vitamin C amounts) but it doesn't take away from how copper vs zinc or vitamin A vs the other fat soluble vitamins are imbalanced with liver.
They made them up ofc ;)
I'd like to know when is the last time anyone sampled the various animal foods we eat to get their vitamin and mineral profile and do it wild vs pastured vs barn raised.
They probably get told what to do by big food and big pharma companies

My carnivore diet is: porterhouse, kangaroo, salmon, sardines, beef mince, liver 30g daily, egg yolk, berries, honey, Kefir and occasionally potatoes.
Probably poor quality liver... I eat raw beef liver weekly and feel great. But then again you may not digest liver well...
@mloukhia Yes
Thank you, Judy!
what do patients do with Anemia & thalassemia?
The fact that you treat people in your practice gives you so much information that others are just guessing at. It's fantastic that you share this with us all. I'd sign up for your version of chronometer!
Judy, thanks for not backing down in the face of criticism and continuing to shed light on the huge problem of hypervitaminosis A for some carnivores. Realizing that one small component (organ meat, especially liver) of this diet can be the main reason this woe isn’t working for some allows us to better troubleshoot instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water, so to speak.
Texas girls are always more beautiful :)
Agree.
I have criticised your anti-liver stance in the past but this video was excellent and highly informative. Thanks for doing it.👍
I too was critical of her criticism of organ meat and supplements.

I experienced the exact same thing!
I ate half pound or 8 ounce of beef liver for several months and that was a big mistake. That was over 2 years ago. I now only eat about 1 ounce of beef liver per day or less and doing great.
Well that's a ridiculous amount
I do it with capsules during my period as I'm anemic from mold toxicity but also have thalassemia
Thank you♥♥
paul is probably just a carb addict. i used to crave the sweet stuff before. i know it can be hard when suffering from an addiction.
I’m so glad I did.
variety = balance = godly way = virtue = better
this is all good news to me! less expensive, less restrictive. I also love the phrase "a rainbow of meats"
Thank you!!

totally agree! excellent presentation.
Absolutely eat pork and fish on carnivore and eggs
I have zero issues keeping a bit of plant product in my diet, I’m in this for gradual improvement of health, not to label myself a carnivore.
Excellent. I'm glad we have people doing the investigating and reporting back to the community. We must strive not to become cultish so thank you.
Thank you Judy for "wearing your big girl pants" ! I truly appreciate your input, and profoundly respect what you propose, as well as how you communicate it to us. Judy you are so much smarter than all the beefhead men on RUclips. I stopped eating liver 8 months ago and feel better already. Super cool video 👏🏻👏🏻👌🏻 and good luck with the haters 😂😂
Thank you, just trying to help. Will always stand for what will help the people. Always!
What beefhead men eat liver on YT?
Idk one lol
In fact everyone stresses so much, NO SUPERFOOD (offal) needed. Not even meat broth which is soooo important.
I don’t think any offal is needed overmuch but if ur scairt of liver then eat heart, kidney, marrow, tongue… Not daily or maybe even weekly but they were always eaten.
What beefhead men and what is your diet now? Is it the fully cancer high-carb diet?
@@MrMadalien Of course, our instincts are designed to keep us perfectly healthy in our natural environment, not the one we live in now.
@Ebrahim Samirali Absolutely, could not agree more.
How does he eat now?
Does he still eat a mostly meat-based diet or has he switched to something else?
@@googlespies he eats high carb (potatoes /rice / organic corn chips) , vegan mayo , small amount lean beef , beans, drinks water kefir
@@sleepingpeacefully9129 That's a 180
Frank Tufano is a troll - he’s doing SAD now and promote supplements and packaged things. Try to watch his few videos - he never eats anything. Big doubts about the reason of his tests - the guy might be heavy drinker or something.
People who eat carnivore won’t drink sugary water and eat chips unless suicidal
Great job Judy! Thank you, yes our goal is always to help people and clearly you care a lot❤👍
Been eating liver for about 2 years 3 times a week, out of poverty. Taking a break from it, just mince n eggs for a while. I had no obvious problems from it, but glad to have seen this...
Maybe once a week
Mee too. I love liver! I crave liver every week!! It doesn’t seem to bother me😅
YES! YES!
Thanks!
Well researched and well said Judy! Thanks for your commitment to the carnivore community!
I think it is important to understand that one size does not fit all. Thank you for presenting additional information to help everyone. 👍🏼❤️
Nutrition aside, let's do some calculation on a cow composition:
1) Cull cow live weight (LW): 1,200lbs - 1,500lbs, averaging at 1,350lbs;
2) Hot Carcass Weight (HCW), 44% - 55% of LW: 258lbs - 520lb, averaging at 374lbs;
3) Cold Carcass Weight (CCW), 99% of HCW: 256lbs - 515lbs, averaging at 370lbs;
4) Muscle Weight, 49% - 63% of CCW = 1,200/1,500 x 44%/55% x 99% x 49%/63% = 256lbs - 515lbs, averaging at 370lbs;
5) Liver weight: 12lbs - 15lbs, averaging at 12.5lbs;
6) Muscle to Liver Weight Ratio: 256lbs / 10lbs = 25.6 to 515lbs / 15lbs = 34.3 , averaging at 29.6;
7) From (6) above, if one actually consumes a whole cow, liver consumption may be as follows:
7.1) 1lbs beef muscle meat / day -> 1lbs / 29.6 (ave.) x 16 = 0.5oz
7.2) 2lbs beef muscle meat / day -> 2lbs / 29.6 (ave.) x 16 = 1.1oz
7.3) 3lbs beef muscle meat / day -> 3lbs / 29.6 (ave.) x 16 = 1.6oz
7.4) 4lbs beef muscle meat / day -> 4lbs / 29.6 (ave.) x 16 = 2.2oz
7.5) 5lbs beef muscle meat / day -> 5lbs / 29.6 (ave.) x 16 = 2.7oz

This video must have been difficult to produce and release, emotionally. Thank you for going through that for us. 🙇♂🙏

Great information. Can you share what mean living out of your fridge vs freezer and why that’s beneficial?
Thank you for providing us this information. More information is always a good thing.
Thank you. I believe we should always strive to find ways to improve diets so people can ultimately heal and thrive. ♥
great video and analysis.
"Keep your fear to yourself and share your courage with others." Thank you for your courage to stand by your convictions.
Thanks for this info. I really look forward to a direct discussion between you and Saladino👍
Why is no one talking about eating sticks of butter and vitamin A toxicity?
She feeds chicken liver mousse to her children. It is in one of her videos. 🥳
Amazing video! Really makes sense putting emphasis on different approaches for people healing themselves vs healthy people. Thank you!
So much valuable info in one video!! Thank you so much, Judy!
A very good holistic look at being a nutritionally better carnivore. Well done!
Yummy 😋
Finding what works for you and allowing you to have limited physical and mental symptoms is key ♥
Vanessa,hi,..1)how long have you been carnivore?2)what do you eat exactly?3)is it curing any symptoms?thank you.
Love calves liver onion and gravy (cooked gently unlike school dinner lol). i miss the mash though.
I just think that we are all different and have different nutritional needs.
No human is the same.
Thanks for yet another very informative video. X
thank you for sharing these with us. your work is very helpful for the community. keep up the good work!
Its definitely still worth eating! Meat is better than no meat even if its grain fed.

Sounds like your diet is perfect. ♥ If you feel well, that's the key!

I keep hearing about the Anderson's. Are they real? Has anyone interviewed them?
Thank you so much Judy for diving more in depth of this. It makes so much sense that more of something good is not always better. So many of us think we can help our bodies faster if we do more of a good
Thing.
