Find myself coming back to these two covers, by Lou. Really emotional, & the original concert, on VHS, lost in time, is stil around, thanks to youtubers!
@@Nundahmusic The fact that so many books still name the Beatles as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" rock band ever only tells you how far rock music still is from becoming a serious art. you think that's weird? then Listen to "The Murder Mystery" by Velvet Underground which was a band he was in. that song is freaking crazy. but he's not talking he's singing but he's just calm and serene most of the time.
In 1970, Lou Reed said that the Beatles were the greatest, most incredible songwriters who ever lived and that 'people cannot conceive how sad their separation is'. In other words, he enjoyed it a lot... Later his brain was affected by drugs and the new rise in the 80s as 'king of the underground' and inspiration of all those dark bands etc... John said his nonsense but he knew how to express opinions at a higher level. and not be so contradictory (Reed also changed his opinion about Zappa)
I love Lou Reed, he is very inspiring to me as a guitar player and songwriter, because if he can do it why the fuck can't I. U if we're all honest with ourselves, you have to admit this sounds like bad karaoke
Need to listen to this directly after reading The Emperor's New Clothes... Because if you don't remember The Emperor's New Clothes you may think this is great. To be fair Jealous Guy sounds a bit amateur but Mother sounds pretty cool
ok, he sounds like lou reed, trying to sound like lou reed, who naturally sounds like dylan trying to be johnny cash, why not. he can afford a dirty boulevard
Lou kinda gave up on using his vocal range in the 80's. But he was a decent singer in The Velvet Underground days and in the 70s. Not always perfect pitch but had good vibrato and a lot of style and confidence on the mic.
Had Lou have been wearing Argyll dress socks that he tucked said shell suit legs into (along with the ubiquitous white `trainees`) I would have been forced to sell all of my Lou Reed Cds on ebay...
Talk about destroying a song...dont get me wrong I love Lou cause he's punk, he can barely play guitar, his vocal are boring but we love him more for his attitude and the fact that he wrote some gud stuff, but shit man this is painful, if the guy wasnt already famous youd pay him to stop already. Anyone who thinks different is a twat. Lou In my mind was overrated.. but he hung out with Andy, shot heroine, wrote perfect day, so we forgive him, but man don't sing John Lennon songs PERIOD..rip
@michaelcarranza6112 I still liked Lou’s singing in his later years. Such as the New York album, and from The Raven album the aforementioned Guardian Angel is probably my favorite Lou song ever! But that’s also partly because I love songs that praise the supernatural and God. And remember the Velvet Underground’s beautiful song about Jesus. That was just a straightforward song of praise. I saw in an interview Lou said that Mother was one of his favorite Lennon songs, and he said he didn’t care much for the Beatles; and he loved Bob Dylan. Lou had an interesting and sometimes troubled life, and he wrote a lot of great songs. Off topic, what do you think of the final Beatles song Now and Then?
a great tribute to John... anyone who cant understand how soulful this is cant be helped
Amen
Yeah, there is soul here. I like to hear this recording as "two New Yorkers." Lou and John.
TWO BRILLIANT LENNON COVERS WITH THE UNIQUE LOU REED/ VU STYLE! Thx for postin´ this rare footage!
Perfect songs for Lou,two of John's best.
rip lou reed...sad day today...

Excellent number! 👌🏻
i love, how on some parts you can hear the crowed sing in the background! would die to see the whole tribute 1990 concert in good quality
I don't think he's trying to sound like Lennon and why should he? He's Lou Reed. A nod to a fellow artist, loved it.
He can’t sound like Lennon because he’s missing two things. An ear for music and talent.
@@Nundahmusic LMAO you're full of shit.
@@maxhoe Sorry Max but it is the truth.

I like this version of "Jealous Guy," but I think I prefer the version he does for the 2001 tribute.
Those Steinberger headlesses are wacky.
I miss Lou
Great song...love lennon's original, this great version, rodder's live version with the faces & even roxy's
EXCEPTIONAL COVERS FROM LOU REED WISHED I COULD HAVE MET HIM ❤️ RIP LOU REED YOU ARE GONE BUT DEFINITELY NEVER FORGOTTEN 🦋🦋🌈🌈

LEGENDY
Great versions..
Happy Lou Reed Month everyone

A couple of songs that Lou likely wished he’d wrote.

Now, it' time for us to say you good bye !
He said once that the Beatles were garbage. So what is this?
It is not a Beatles song
In 1970, Lou Reed said that the Beatles were the greatest, most incredible songwriters who ever lived and that 'people cannot conceive how sad their separation is'. HE DOES MATE BUT I ABSOLUTELY THINK HE'S AMAZING 🥰 RIP LOU REED SLEEP WELL 🌈🦋❤️
Speak for yourself simp. If you have to be honest these songs sung by Lou Reed for John are brilliant. The voice and delivery are on cue.

Changed my mind... Lou's Jealous Guy from the concert on October 2nd 2001 is much better... but the cool factor of this version is 11/10
he sounds like bob dylan trying to sound like johnny cash
No he sounds like Lou Reed sounding like Lou Reed doing a song for John Lennon.
RE: fleshdoll comment. are you nuts you should be sorry, partly the drugs gave this man influence (herion, perfect day).
Sorry, only Lennon, not Harrison, my error.
well Zenguitar....the answer to your question is because Lou can do whatever the fuck he wants. your probably just not familiar with his style.

Fuck you
Crap live performances here from Lou.
Are you crazy? Reed born to sing harrison and lennon , that's a new thing. I love Reed, singing Reed or Velvet, but Beatles?
I find it remarkable that he did these songs in tribute. However, this is such garbage. I had to say that. Yuck.
Dude cant sing
This is so bad! Love Lou but god damn
@michaelcarranza6112
Please don’t take God’s name in vain.
Maybe check out Lou’s song Guardian Angel; it’s beautiful.
@@sfender2182 my apologies! God is the almighty and Christ is the only way, but Lou reeds voice in his later life is a bit of a nightmare.

Awful covers of two beautiful Lennon songs.
