@@DeadPlayin i agree, but don't you think additional incentive to overconsume is a bad thing, not a good thing? offering colour variations doesn't create much incentive to overconsume, besides those who would do so anyway. songs which are vinyl exclusive etc. create an incentive for overconsumption which is likely to convince more people to overconsume

    • @DeadPlayin

@ From how you laid it out, I see what you mean. The additional incentive to consume can definitely be a negative thing if it goes too far (over consumption). The color variations are more of a collector thing compared to the vinyls with extra tracks. The vinyls with extra tracks are another FOMO tactic, but I still think it can provide more value to the listener when compared to the Midnights vinyls that just make a clock 💀

Donations are incredibly great and they save people's lives so that is defintately something to respect Taylor for. However, it is important to keep many things (but mostly two major points) about celebrity donations (not just TS) in mind:
    1) These donations, while really big and helpful, are barely a fraction of their overall wealth.
    2) While most of the charities, gofundmes and organizations that they donate to are really helpful, they are usually aimed at allevieting individual circumstances or aiding the burdens of some people whilst not actually changing the systems that cause these problems in the first place.
i.e., Celebrity donations and charitable efforts, while helpful, respectable and generous, do not actually challenge the status quo, create systematic change or stop causal factors of problems like poverty, unaffordable healthcare, and whatever else. Celebs dear not challenge capitalism (the major root cause of the circumstances they donate to) since they ultimately benefit from it. What ends up happening is that celebrities are still able to hold on to their wealth and power whilst attaining the vaneer of generosity.
This was a really great video essay btw!

    • @Wawawawawa750
      @Wawawawawa750 Месяц назад +1

I agree with this, but I'd like to add nuance to both your points:
      1. Yes, this is true, however for TS specifically, it is pretty important to note that a HUGE chunk of her net worth isn't liquid cash, it's her music catalogue which she won't sell. You have to commend her for the fact that her business is purely built on the music. She didn't exploit workers to create a majority of her wealth (Unfortunately, her merch is very unethically produced), she did it as an artist first and foremost. Thus, of her net worth, she probably only has like a quarter of it in liquid assets. Thus, a bonus as huge as $197 Million Dollars is not just chump change for her, it's a huge amount of money. This ain't mentioning the donations she has made in every city that hosted the Eras Tour (Of which none have not publicly disclosed the amount, and only a few paces have actually publicly thanked her for this without her input, so she's not doing it as a publicity stunt) nor does it account for the cost of her high-budget productions, high salary of workers, etc. She is the closest we have to an ethical billionaire in this world, and we can critique her missteps, but it's disingenuous to think she's only doing these generous and kind things for PR or ulterior motives.
      2. While this is ultimately true, it is not really productive to put an expectation for every celebrity to be an activist for social change. One rich famous celebrity cannot meaningfully change the status quo, especially pop stars like Taylor Swift. Their largest influence is only on the industry they are under, to which Taylor Swift has done plenty that still benefits smaller and less successful artists to this day.
This is a fair criticism to give towards CEOs or business moguls, but it is more layered when it comes to careers on the entertainment industry. Such radical decisions, especially under the scrutinizing general public, can quite literally make these stars lose their celebrity status and jobs entirely.
As you've already said, they ultimately benefit from capitalistic society. However, another point to add here is that celebrities as a concept is born from capitalism. To be in a position of stardom is to participate under consumer culture, because it is impossible to be a famous person in entertainment if you cannot treat yourself as a product. People watch and listen to you and your art, this is your work, you should be able to sell it. It's just that celebrities do it in a scale much larger than most people. This is also why most celebrities makes brands in the first place, because banking all your assets in such a fickle industry can majorly backfire. In this context, Taylor is once again coming out on top as one of the few artists that doesn't sell anything beyond her music and merch. Extending her brand to include things like perfumes or clothing lines would be nothing but more money for her, yet she doesn't do anything of the sort to taint her brand or business.
That isn't to say she is a saint who has done no wrong, but it's important to add context to her billionaire status because it's reductive to also paint her as a devil incarnate because of her net worth. Celebrities (ESPECIALLY Taylor) because of their exposure get unfair scrutiny over much more influential and powerful people, when in the day most of their brand is just being entertainment for the masses. I mean, I think it's fair to say it's bad to compare any celebrity to Jeff Bezos, who isn't actually famous but brings so much more harm and damage to the world than any celebrity ever could while getting less than a quarter of the press or media attention.

im a swiftie. the biggest issue i had with taylor was that, before the tortured poets department she was selling different TTPD vinlys and CDs each with a different bonus song
    "The Black Dog"
    "The Albatross"
    "The Bolter"
    "The Manuscript"
And then come album release day, she releases a part two to the album with all these songs anyway...
i found it very greedy, the whole point is that we were thinking we'd only be able to hear those "exclusive" songs through the CD or Vinyl. i never bought any of those CDs, because i knew we'd probably get the songs on streaming eventually, just like the song "Hits Different" from the Midnights album. She should've either waited to drop the part 2 to the album (i think this would've been better tbh, remember everyone saying 31 songs was too much to listen to, and that all the songs sounded the same?) (the songs don't actually sound the same on that album, its just after listening to 31 songs, its hard to remember a specific song you loved. she should've waited to release the anthology to not have this issue)
The better option is either have all the songs on the same CD/Vinyl (like the one she just released) or just not sell different versions. im not buying anymore Taylor swift CDs because i don't agree with the tactic, its greedy, even tho i love her.

as a lifetime swiftie i don’t think it’s crazy to have different color variations for albums as long as they are all released together, like folklore. i think it’s fun & gives people a chance to pick which one they think is the coolest with no feeling of FOMO.
HOWEVER with 1989 TV she would release a vinyl with only 48 hours to buy which caused many people to buy because they didn’t know if there’d be different one or if that one would ever be available again. BUT she continued to released 3 others with the same limited time buy period & the only difference was the color. also if you were planning on buying all four as collectables anyway (i don’t understand this thought process but to each their own) you would have to pay for shipping 4 separate times.
i had this same annoyance with TTPD, where she would release a vinyl variation with a “bonus track” that was only available for a certain amount of time. & then proceeded to release the anthology unannounced which included all of those bonus tracks…& finally just NOW released the anthology on vinyl.
i love taylor & her music & ive bought her merch before. i just think the whole “available for 24 or 48 hours” sucks.

    • @DeadPlayin
      @DeadPlayin  Месяц назад +2

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with color variations either. Like you said, they do give the listener more choices to pick something they like. I should’ve emphasized the FOMO tactics more than the color variations.
I’m also very annoyed with how she releases her albums, and some of the variations since there’s FOMO from the beginning of the album cycle. It just makes it seem like she wants to make a certain part of her fanbase feel “special” just cause they bought everything. That just alienates her fanbase. She uses this parasocial relationship to boost her sales, which could seen as a little exploitative. I could be overthinking this, so take it how you will 🫡

it's one of the better critisism video essays of taylor swift I've seen in a while. I always enjoy listening critisism about the things and people I adore...cuz it just gives a different perspective...but I usually don't follow this practice when it comes to taylor swift...cuz like 80 percent of that critisism stem misogynistic views and ideas....but your video is certainly a breath of fresh air.
A little background...so I'm from India and my first interaction with a taylor song was in 2017 (it was blank space and LWYMMD) and well the rest is history (been a swiftie since 2017) ...ngl i agree with a lot of (Almost all) points you talk about....her 36 releases for folklore was just excessive and her not speaking about global issues even after knowing the kind of power she has is very very ignorant of her....
But I wanna like put up a point....like her carbon emissions (now in no way or form am going to justify her carbon emissions) I feel we don't give nearly enough heat to other celebrities when it comes to carbon emissions as compared to taylor swift....like for example (believe it or not) travis scott and Kim k are one with highest carbon emissions in 2023 and they were not even on tour...now once again I'm not justifying anyone critising taylor swift for her carbon emissions...but why are we not taking the same tone with other celebrities when it comes to carbon Emissions (www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=wp.nyu.edu/steinhardtschoolofcultureeducationandhumandevelopment-celebrityjetemissions/auto-draft-23/2023-2/&ved=2ahUKEwjunOaBiJ2KAxVqSWwGHd3iFw8QFnoECCkQAQ&sqi=2&usg=AOvVaw1kRkpfl-PJUPrbdGHDIhVK) (link for the carbon emissions info)

Mentioning the carbon emissions just added some more strength to my argument. She definitely isn’t the only celebrity with extreme emissions, so those people deserve to be criticized too. I know Kylie Jenner got in some hot water about this issue too back in like 2018 or 2019, so Taylor isn’t the first person to be criticized over this issue. I have more of an understanding why Taylor’s emissions would be high during touring, but she had the most emissions by a large amount in 2022 while she wasn’t touring. Alright, strap in, this is gonna be a long comment.
I found your video on my home page, and I decided to give it a watch since I always love to support smaller channels. Great video, good editing, and it's clear that research went into your argument, so great job.
Now for my opinion. I became a swiftie during 2022. To be transparent, I'm an asian 20 something year old woman, and the fan base is predominantly white women/girls, which turned me off from being a Taylor fan throughout my girlhood-adulthood. But I listened to her whole discography in one week and something just clicked and I fell in love. For about 2 months into enjoying all her music, I was extremely hesitant to call myself a swiftie, because I know all the stereotypes and connotations surrounding the fan base and even the word "swiftie." All of this to say, I've never really enjoyed the Stan culture of it all, and the lack of criticism that comes from other swifties, as if criticizing her would make you "less" of a fan. I went to the eras tour, twice. I was lucky enough to get tickets but even the commodification of The Eras Tour was partially in her control, but also out of her control. At the end of the day, she is a business woman. She is an artist, but her music is her income, thus, it's no surprise that she has found a way to heavily profit off her fans.
I find it interesting that you see her drops as "intentional blocking" for other artists, because at the end of the day, they're all competing for the same awards. While Taylor is not a UK artist, her fan base is quite literally worldwide. I met multiple people from my Toronto shows who flew in from Europe AND the U.S. because they couldn't get tickets in their own countries. It's almost like saying "Oh Simone Biles should give other athletes a chance because she always gets Gold." It feels... odd. It is a blood bath and a competition at the end of the day, but with the timing of everything, I can understand why you came to that conclusion.
Vinyl variants... Well, this one's interesting. Taylor's career has spanned longer than some of her fans' lives 😂 It's normal for her to have a large catalogue, but I will agree that 9 variants for folklore is excessive. However, your counterarguments to Billie's eco vinyls is, interesting. Considering she put out a bunch of variants for her "eco-vinyls" after bashing the variant game is just fishy. If she really felt strongly about the variant game, she'd have 1 for her album. But that's just Billie. While TTPD variants had bonus tracks, the FOMO tactic is real with Taylor. I'm surprised you didn't delve into merch because her team often enacts a similar drop system. I think you really hit the mark calling it a "FOMO tactic" because it really is. I've felt so compelled to buy merch even when I can't afford it, because of the tactic. If you post your cart on Twitter, there's a chance that Taylor Nation will see it and repost or reply to you. It's all brownie points and bragging rights. Don't get me started on stan Twitter in general. I use the app to stay updated with what's happening, but really, it's hard to say how I truly feel on that app because you're constantly being judged or you'll probably get called a "tay-trier" if you criticize her. But that's also how all Stan culture is, and it's not singular to the swiftie community.
Her emissions are excessive but to be expected. She IS the most famous woman in the world right now, she has multiple stalkers who have broken into her homes, etc. There's no way you can expect her to fly commercial, but some trips can be done via car, she may just choose not to.
All of this to say, I became a fan of Taylor because of her music. I decided to join the swiftie community because I wanted to be around other fans, the fanbase isn't ALL bad, but it often gets overshadowed by the louder (and often richer and more privileged) voices. The fanbase is predominantly white and filled with Taylor worshippers, which is fine, but to completely ignore her business decisions and capitalism is wrong. Think of how much more good Taylor could do with her power as the most popular artist in the world. She could talk about Pal3stine, Sudan, Syria, and not just speak up when it's beneficial to her. She is extremely influential and has an army of followers who would do something if she came out and said to do it. To say that she's an artist and it's not her job to speak on world issues is, in my opinion, wrong. Someone with her global influence SHOULD and CAN use her voice, but it's ultimately up to her. She is a business woman AND an artist, both can and are true.
I'm looking forward to seeing Part 2 on The Eras Tour, keep making content. You've gained a subscriber. :)

@@cxfvsion Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to present my points to you :) I appreciate the kind words as well!
In terms of the points you’ve made, I’ve got a lengthy response back, lmao
I’m glad that as a fan of her music, you understand that there are some questionable parts of her fanbase, just like any community tho. Like you said, some of them will clown you into oblivion for the most trivial things, or if you critique anything she does. I’ve even seen some of her fans say some pretty racist things, and I know that Tyler, The Creator recently called her fans out for it. I’m also glad that you were able to provide a different and compelling point of view on the topics I covered.
For the part where I talked about her gatekeeping artists, I probably could’ve dove further into the idea of her drops being her form of competition. Yet I just feel like dropping the same album (with extra steps) instead of dropping a fresh project to compete with others is a cheap tactic to control the charts. Especially when you know your fans are gonna eat up whatever you put out. I’m not talking about deluxe albums either. The Simone Biles comparison you made would work better too if Taylor was competing with these artists with a new album, instead of one that had been out for over a month with several variants already. Simone has to constantly train and get better everyday, while Taylor can just decide when to drop another version of TTPD with some demos and acoustic tracks to keep her #1 spot.
I did see that Billie has made hella vinyls for her albums too. Thing is, she makes sure to highlight that they’re eco friendly and lays out the materials used for them. I personally haven’t seen anything about Taylor making her vinyls eco-friendly, whilst producing a lot of them in a 4 year span. I could be completely wrong tho if there’s any information out there confirming she makes eco-friendly vinyls. Going back to Bille, you could argue that making so many eco-friendly vinyls undermines the point of the vinyls being eco-friendly in the first place (if this makes sense, lmao).
I’m not saying that she should fly commercial, but the amount of CO2 emissions that are attached to her are staggering. Even when she’s not touring, she’s pumping a staggering amount of CO2 emissions into the air. Other prominent celebrities don’t emit nearly as much emissions as she does, at least from what we know.
We thankfully see eye to eye on the FOMO tactics she uses 😭 she’s able to use the parasocial relationship she has with her fans to her advantage instead of letting it control her. Even with this relationship, she doesn’t use it much to talk about world issues, possibly because she doesn’t want to find herself in trouble with the wrong group of people. She seems to play things very safe in this regard. You and I both are not asking her to go and protest everyday of her life, but her and her team should at least try to research the things going on around the world so her fans will have a great cause to latch onto.
Once again, I really appreciate you for leaving a very civil comment that made me reflect on the points I made in this video :) It means a lot to me that you’re willing to join this journey to make an impact on this platform ❤️ Thanks again!

I do appreciate that you highlight that the carbon emissions argument doesn't apply ONLY to Taylor, since she isn't even the top celebrity with emissions. You've got Jay-Z, Ronaldo, Travis Scott, Kylie Jenner, Elon Musk, etc. all AHEAD of Taylor on the emissions list. Taylor gets the most flack because she an easy target. That isn't me excusing her, it's me including her as part of the problem. She still contributes to carbon emissions and that is her contributing to the downfall of our climate.

I also would love to hear an alternative for her to tour around the world? As if others aren't touring using the same means as her? At the end of the day sometimes you just have no choice, touring is her way of making money as an artist and EVERY artist does it. Very intersted in part two!!!1 The Eras Tour finally came to a close last night and seeing all that has happened was both incredible to witness and abit scary as well. That is what led me to searching for this type of video in the first place. Cause let's not forget, Taylor is also an expensive commodity at the highest level. One person having that much power. But it has also been nice to see how her tours have boosted economies in several countries across the world and soo many were able to benefit from the craze as well. In the same breath, we can also acknowledge that she has also milked her fans in every possible way. so two things can be right at the same time. Billboard named Beyonce as the greatest artist of the 21st century and her fans have been making racist comments, I know she may not see everything, but it says alot that her reps do not want her to speak on stuff like that so they probably dont inform her about it or make it a priority....We cannot forget that her fans are predominantly white teenagers plus....But I would have been good to have her respond and make her stance clear on something like this..
I was fascinated to witness the craze online. We may never witness this type of movement again. I am a huge fan of her work, the folklore album my favourite. love her live performances...we have seen soo many versions of her artistically, which i appreciate....but not a fan of some of the practices i have witnessed in her camp. Like i said two things can be right at once. You have to admit, she appears very nice, seems like a simple person with good intensions, which should be appreciated,....her being able to profit off of that is a plus but she has created this orbit through her songwriting, and ability to connect through that. Yes i dont love all her work,,,,but can appreciate it soo many of her songs that i adore and still listen as i go about my day...whether work or studies.... Her ability to connect with her fans cannot be ignored... Either way, Taylor has built a phenominal career and loyal fanbase through her personal experiences.

I’m glad you were able to stumble upon this video then :) I honestly agree with the points you’ve made. Taylor has definitely done good things throughout her career and probably isn’t a bad person, but it can’t be denied that some parts of her fanbase are definitely out of control and attack other people/artists whenever the opportunity is presented to them. Obviously, that isn’t her fault, but if she has knowledge of the things going on, she should say something about them. She’s also very successful from utilizing her parasocial relationship with her fans, which has led to people idolizing her. Her FOMO tactics I talked about in this video shows that she understands how much money she can make by just promising her fans “special” things. The word “special” could make her fans buy her products en masse just so they can idolize her and say they’re her biggest fans. There’s nothing wrong with liking or loving an artist, but Taylor leans into this idolization to make a lot of money.
I appreciate you a lot for leaving this insightful comment too!

As a struggling singer-songwriter myself I just think the hype is exaggerated, which is all, really. I don't hate her music (in fact, I think it's superior to certain other people's like Katy Perry or Ed Sheeran) I just think it's overrated compared (!) to some people who'd deserve it more (like Lana Del Rey or "even" Shakira, who I like naming as examples of also relatively recent(ly) succesful, also female, artists, not to even mention Mr. Dylan (or "even" Cobain for that matter), Miss Joplin etc. ...). And no, I don't mean that in the sense that I include myself in that ( "even" Lana Del Rey is far superior to anything I could ever pull off...), just that what I do isn't necessarily inferior to what she does, either, so I keep thinking "if writing one's own songs is all it takes now and if they sound like that and given that I've been doing it for more than 10 years now, constantly trying new things (and that, frankly, more consequently than she does, imo) etc., it, well, shouldn't be too much to ask to, well, at least, get so much as a fraction (!) of that recognition, shouldn't it?", that's all...

@DeadPlayin Hey, thanks so much for that positive, encouraging reply! I am indeed actually at a point where I start being like "ah,well, whatever (one of my most recent songs is actually called that, but for a very different reason (which is because it's, rather untypical for my style, an attempt at a Nirvana tribute song...), so this is actually kind of a dumb joke, sorry 'bout that 😄...), let me just make the kind of music I enjoy 'cause I enjoy it". I mean, I should add that I'm already realistic enough not to aim higher than at becoming a slightly (!) well-known RUclips person and even that won't work... But then again, I don't recall anyone ever reaching that goal based on their own music and thankfully I have other interests like talking about movies or something, so we'll see 😉...

(like exclusive variants just for the uk? seriously?)
the thing is: charli is also a hard worker, she been looking for her moment to shine again for a while now, and when she finally have it, taylor finds a way to block her. at first i thought it was because of the "sympathy is a knife situation", but then she also did it to billie without any apparent reason

Olivia wasn’t happy with this and wrote vampire about her and in response Taylor wrote a song on ttpd about her. @oh.sorry.dont.mind.meeeee Месяц назад +18

🤦‍♀️ you can't be serious. You do realize she doesn't literally have a billion dollars in liquid cash, right? It's the value of her catalogue, some of which she still doesn't even own. she's written over 200 songs and now has 11 studio albums.
she became a billionaire purely through the music, ticket sales for tours, vinyls, CDs, and cassettes, streams, and yes, umg makes merch. but she hasn't appeared in commercials in years she hasn't had a perfume in an extremely long time and she never made a fashion line or a makeup brand like other celebrities and musicians have. Because of this it's reported that her wealth was gained directly through the music in a way that no other billionaire ever has done. she quite literally has made so much of that money without exploiting anyone, she's not Jeff bezos. so these arguments are a little ridiculous. Dolly Parton was also a billionaire was she not ? or was that JK Rowling? but she became a millionaire because she donated enough of it, and Swift will probably do the same.
the Eras Tour cost a huge amount of money to put on, and she never allowed Ticketmaster to use surge pricing, etc. she and her team fought Ticketmaster every step of the way to try to get her fans reasonable tickets. the resale price was insane but the actual price of the tickets set by her were extremely reasonable. Verified fan was also used to try to get more fans tickets instead of scalpers.
She's donated a HUGE amount throughout her career. At the end of the You Need to Calm Down music video they talk about the proceeds going to an LGBTQ charity, the song itself has the line, "when you could be GLAAD". At the end of the Wildest Dreams music video you can see that she donated to wildlife preservation.
She wrote the song Ronan for a woman whose son died of cancer, it was a charity single and the mother is credited as a writer since she used her blog for inspiration, the money went to cancer charity. The mom's name is Maya and she's gotten to go to the tour herself.
Her song It's Nice to Have a Friend also included a youth choir. "Royalties from the new Taylor Swift song from her new album, Lover, "It's Nice to Have a Friend" will support a music program in Toronto" 'It's Nice to Have a Friend' Is Boosting Art Education at Toronto School: 'This Will Benefit Us For Years'. "
Recently she donated 5 million to hurricane relief. She's encouraged people to register to vote throughout the years, and her links have driven huge traffic to vote.org.
She pays all of her employees extremely well and then gives them huge bonuses on top of it, including all of the crew, the truck drivers, etc.
At every single stop of the Eras Tour she's donated huge amounts to food banks, in the UK she donated so much, that it was reported that she did more for food insecurity than the government. look it up. Wherever the tour went it also gave an economic boost to the area, certain governments were begging her to visit them for this reason, she brings prosperity and joy.
and by the way, isn't Beyonce also a billionaire? does she donate as much as Swift does ? and I don't hear anyone complaining about her. hmmm 🤔
Rihanna and Ariana both have makeup brands and Rihanna is a successful business woman. (Fenty and R.E.M) I don't see anybody complaining about them being rich off of their makeup brands.
Billie eilish and Sabrina Carpenter just keep releasing more and more fragrances. Billie has three or four now and Sabrina has at least three, a new one just dropped. I don't see anybody complaining about Billie or Sabrina's perfumes.
Meanwhile Taylor Swift doesn't have a perfume line anymore, and hasn't in a long time, she never had a makeup line or a fashion line, the only physical things she sells now are through UMG's merch line, and we don't exactly know what her contract with them looks like or how much of a say she has in that aspect of it, unfortunately. But all of the other artists I mentioned ALSO have merch lines with their record labels. Sabrina and Billie both sell tons of merch on their websites. Vinyl variants are also extremely common and have been forever, way before Swift. Labels always try to make as much money as they can off their artists, that's capitalism for ya. Why do you think they used to release greatest hits albums? now with streaming those are obsolete.
So what's the difference? is it wrong for Billie, Sabrina, Rihanna, and Ariana, to try to make money just like everyone else does under capitalism, or is it ok? and if it's ok, why isn't it ok when Taylor does it? 🤔

Thank you so much! I realized that Billie makes a lot of vinyls herself, which is why I relied on her word that she makes her vinyls eco-friendly. An argument could be presented against Billie that making too many eco-friendly vinyls undermines the reason they’re supposed to be eco-friendly. I’m glad we’re able to agree that some of her business practices are predatory and really rely on the parasocial relationship she has with her fans.

You need to go back into Pop/Rock history and realize Taylor isn’t the first to start these kinds of practices. For DECADES we have had far, far too many “Greatest Hits”, “Best ofs”, “Essentials”, “ Comprehensive collections” and more, more, more unneeded and wasteful albums by everyone from Louis Armstrong, Elvis and The Beach Boys to Madonna. All designed to just milk, milk, milk the music buyer. It’s not about choice. It’s about waste, and it’s been going on a long time. Taylor is far from the first “bad guy” here. The weapon is being a sensible consumer with the paycheck in hand.

    • @DeadPlayin
      @DeadPlayin  Месяц назад +9

She definitely isn’t the first to start these kinds of practices, but releasing 36 variants of the same album within a year is something I’ve never heard of 😭😭😭 I suppose that I can understand the vinyls FOMO tactic since it reaches out to collectors, and it’s very effective. I also alluded to the consumer being a part of the problem at the end of the Vinyl Vampire chapter. The more her fans buy all of her vinyls, the more she’s gonna make. It’s just basic business at that point, lmaooo

There definitely are people making more money than her, but that wasn’t the point of this argument. I also said in the video that she isn’t the only artists that makes a lot of vinyl variants. Another thing is, only SOME of her vinyls are signed. Unless you have footage of her signing them herself, it’s probably a copied signature. Last thing, I explicitly stated that I don’t hate Taylor Swift, and that I actually enjoy listening to her music sometimes. I also acknowledged that she’s worked her ass off to get to the top. I don’t need to lie for the clicks and the views. At the end of the day, this is an argumentative video essay more than this all just being facts that can’t be argued against. It’s my opinion. I should’ve focused more on the FOMO aspect than the color variations, so that’s on me. The color variations are a good thing that give fans more of a choice. I mostly wanted to focus on the difference between each vinyl, and emphasize the $120 clock. Billie does make a lot of vinyl variants too, but she’s at least made sure to emphasize that they’re eco-friendly. I’ve never seen anything about Taylor’s vinyls being eco-friendly, but I could be wrong. In the video, I also said that not every fan is gonna buy all of her vinyls. She isn’t holding a gun to anyone’s head, but she definitely uses FOMO tactics to sell more music. Having exclusive drops for 6 and 24 hours, as well as splitting bonus tracks between 4 vinyls are for sure FOMO tactics.
