@Fi the Philosopher Depending on who you listen to theory wise (there was a two part video a few weeks back over Ganondorf and his purpose beneath the castle), though, the green hand thing could have been siphoning Ganondorf's spirit, so when Link stuck his hand into the green stream of energy he may very well have been absorbing the remnants of the Gerudo King's Spirit before Ganondorf's body was possessed by Malice. So (if this holds anyway) we may have a scenario of Link playing the physical host to Ganondorf's spirit, and it being cut off from the malice possessing his body, Ganondorf proves to be an ally with ancient experience dealing with the Malice, and perhaps a mentor of fighting styles. Personally, I find it unlikely that *this* particular direction is taken, but the theory of Ganondorf's purpose below Hyrule Castle is an arguably sound one
Plus It would be an interesting twist a ganondorf incarnation who's actually a good guy altough there would alot of controversy about that since he's an incarnation of Demise.

Considering that BotW and Tears were originally planned to be one single game, and now that Tears is out and we've seen what it is, I think I actually would have preferred a story more similar to this, where Link is being helped and haunted by a ghost that is obviously Ganondorf, but never names himself as such. Ganondorf playing the role of the fairy helper would have been amazing, and given tons of opportunity for unique interactions and situations. We've never really seen how Ganondorf the person feels about being the avatar of Demise, and I think him regretting and resenting that role, and instead wishing to be free of the curse and helping Link, would make for a fascinating personal story to overlay onto a broader sandbox game.
You mean Wind Waker Link? Technically, he is the latest incarnation in the timeline, as Breath of the Wild takes place far after the Great Sea has receded. In my mind, the 10,000 year time gap encompasses all of the Zelda games, regardless of what timeline you follow, allowing for any and all of them to happen and enjoy a long period of peace before the next hero of Courage needs to rise.

Different people, who carry different memories, different skills (with, admittedly, a lot of overlap), different personalities and different lives. Take the Hero of Winds and compare him to the Hero of Twilight. Twilight comes off far more serious minded and mature, with admittedly a giant soft side, while Wind is noticeably more childish and hyperactive. Granted, there is an age difference, but each Link since they became 3D (as well as certain top-down games) have some hints to personality you can extrapolate from. A reincarnation does not mean you're the same person, but I guess I'd put it like... Ah, the soul is the exact same at the moment of birth every time, and certain characteristics are pretty much guaranteed to shine through, but you're still tempered by your life experiences.
