Gotta give credit to him for starting the N.O. 'bounce' genre of music, but it is bogus for him not to recognize that New Orleans already had a rising rap music scene when he hit the scene! Talking about 'homage', how about giving it up to the N.O. rappers who were already established and were pretty big at that time? Gregory D, Sporty T, and Mannie were pioneers with "We Destroy", "Freddies Back", and 'Buck Jump time" which were all certified hits between 1986 and 1989. Bustdown had "Put yo Ballys on" and "Nasty Bitch", which I think were originally released prior to Tucker; Warren Mayes had "Get it Girl, don't stop" in 1989; MC Thick had "Marrero" that came out either at the same time as 'Where Dey At' or just right before. The bottom line is this: All of the other NO rappers had REAL rap songs and could actually rap (except for Mayes...LOL!). I was DJing in NO back then and remember not liking 'Where Dey at' because I felt like it wasn't real rap, and it was making NO look bad, despite the fact that it was a heavily requested song. "Bounce for the Juvenile" and "Jubilee all" made me feel a bit better and were bigger hits than Tucker's IMHO, and to me, were the bounce tracks that moved the bounce music outside of NO. Tucker is the originator of Bounce and should get flowers for that, but he is not the pioneer of the NO music scene, and he should pay homage to those guys rather than act like there was no music from NO before he arrived!
