My SECRET LURE Setup for Catching Pre-Spawn Pike, a bonus NEW PB, and a Bowfin INVASION!

- The Pre-Spawn Pike season is officially opened in Quebec so I pack up the boat and head to the St. Lawrence river to look for toothy critters hiding in bays and creeks out of the main current looking for warmer water. Eventually we track down some fish in ultra shallow water that ends up being infested with Bowfin and a few largies, including a 6 pound mamma that ends up being my new personal best (I don't fish largemouth very much)! Largemouth and smallmouth bass are NOT in season and can't be targeted, so I had to back off that area and have some fun with the always aggressive bowfin instead. If you don't know what a bowfin is, you have to check this out!
I also give you guys a close look at building one of my favorite spring rigs that catches EVERYTHING in shallow water! This is one of the best baits I have ever used in spring pre-spawn fishing and is a favorite for Pike and Bass, you won't regret giving it a try!
Here are the Siwash hooks Size 3/0 I used: amzn.to/2Z2gQoe

Bowfin!! That’s insane. Great vid as usual and always entertaining. Was laughing so hard when you were running over to the rods trying different ones to catch the thing! Haha
It was serious panic lol!
Love the excitement and wow what a crazy looking 🎣. That was a huge large mouth, a day of multi-fish tasking....Senko is the way to go!!! That looks like the perfect place for top water bait. Kick ass scenery and video Dan, can’t wait to see what’s next!!!!0
Thanks so much, it was indeed a multi-species day, which it almost always is when you fish the St. Lawrence, you just never know what you're going to catch. I have a bunch of fun videos planned, thanks so much for supporting my channel!
Great video!
Thank you Jesse, appreciate the feedback :)
That was definitely a tank largemouth Dan!... and bowfin are always fun... I catch a LOT of them in the Everglades canals (they call them mudfish down there)... and you're right about them having nasty teeth when they get bigger... that 9 lber I caught really had some canines!... as for pike, I've been finding a few in Lake Champlain lately... nothing really big (6 lb is the biggest... so far)... and I really like the twister tail trailer on the spinnerbait... going to rig one up when I get back to Miami next week
It was a new PB for me, couldn't believe there were giants like that in there, I can't imagine what a 10 pounder would look like! I haven't found any large pike yet either, but it's still early. I'll give them another shot this week for sure! Let me know how the setup does for you when you get back, it's fire over here in the spring!
Mind sharing the make of the pedestal seat on your bow? Everything I'm seeing at the boat dealer look really flimsy. Your model looks really stable. Thank you
Absolutely and yes, the one I have is SUPER solid, I absolutely love it! It's an Attwood Swivl-Eze Power Pedestal seat and the cushion seat part I just bought on sale at Cabelas. Just bear in mind when shopping for one, they do come in different adjustable heights, so get the one that works best for your application. Check out page 211 of their 2021 catalog: www.delzer.com/powerproducts/Attwood-Marine-Products-Collection-2021/212/
Here's the casting cushion seat I have although I don't see the beige colored one I bought available: www.cabelas.com/shop/en/bass-pro-shops-pro-qualifier-backstop-pro-butt-seat
What reel is that? That orange baitcaster?
There’s bowfin in Canada??. I live in Alberta and I’ve been fishing since I was 3 and I NEVER caught one
They sure do! They are a native species to the St. Lawrence river system and are found in Southern Ontario and Quebec. I do not believe they are found in any other provinces so you'll have to come visit to catch one! :)
@@DanRichardFishing hmm, maybe I will. Thanks for the info!
Use braided line. They can`t bite through that.
