    After a busy day yesterday it seems my brain has upped the sensations to keep me indoors 🙄. Anyway despite feeling heavy headed (have ear infection) I've got up the shop and into the park for a walk. Refusing to go home, I'm safe.

Besides your dailies, I go to that library some days to watch or listen to 1 or 2 of them that answer any questions or queries I have. I also have an old poem I go to that encourages me. What helped me overcome the fear over time was that the symptoms were being caused by my brain perceiving danger. Once I accepted that, my fear began to fade away.

    Lately for my understanding it's been a past experience, a chronic belief is formed creating chronic emotion, brain reacts fight, flight or freeze mode activated and blood flow allocated for safety. Quite often I've found I can meet all sensations as they are, information is revealed. Sometimes I'll think when I'm triggered and imagine how a frightened child would be perceiving this situation.

    Great video! Thank you. I love the phrase “you are not a special kind of broken, you’re a human being” Please say it more 🎉
    Could you do a video on using your approach with mental health symptoms. I experience a lot of paranoia and disorganised thinking/cognitive confusion and it brings in all these reasons (past traumas etc - you can’t do this because a bad thing once happened before..) I can understand it is fear, like the rest of the symptoms but I find it much harder to separate it, I guess because the symptom itself IS my mind/head/cognition, as opposed to my back/leg etc. It would be helpful to see a video on this directly - mostly because your voice and energy is so reassuring, and I know if I had symptoms and I can’t calm myself down, I can play your voice saying ‘you’re not a special kind of broken’ over and over it just works 😂

    • @100hellsonlyangel
      @100hellsonlyangel 5 месяцев назад

      Just to add, the paranoia can be from “oh my friends hate me” to tin foil hat style beliefs about the world that the world as a whole and society as a whole is “dangerous” and not worth participating in. Those are the bad days…other times I’m very happy to be here with my friends and animals etc, but when the fear comes up in that way it becomes more scary because I’m confused, or I believe the thought - does that makes sense?

    • @CuriousCattery
      @CuriousCattery 5 месяцев назад +1

      I get this too.. what helps me is to realise it's not really my mind but an automatic thought triggered by the perception of danger. That reflective part that recognises the distortion is the real you.. the initial thought is just an automatic reaction, like the pain or the other symptoms.

    Hey Dan😊 Thank you so much again. I was wondering if you could ever talk about the emotion excitement. I know it’s best to allow all the emotions, stay with them, feeling safe within them. But this excitement feels so much like fear, and it generates also the excitement-thoughts which are not that calm/relaxed. I wonder if the prescence of this emotion can still be a signal of safety. A while ago I dived into this brain-retraining program and the host said that we should try to “just for now” not get too excited (as it is so similar to fear and revs up the nervous system), staying calm. This feels like I’m avoiding a part of myself.

    Again, Dan, you hit the nail on the head. I have been trying to add exercise and movement back into my life, but I have been noticing that while I do it, I'm thinking is this going to hurt? I go into exercise already fearing this might bring on pain, and guess what? It does. I was actually having a better non pain day and did a little too much because I was feeling better. I have such a disconnect with my body's signals and while I was exercising there were little twinges, but I thought I would continue to do it. I should known better. I need to start slowly because going from not being active to trying to do a full hour of exercise was probably not the best action. I am going to limit myself for now, starting to do only 15 minutes of exercise and build up my strength. I need to really listen to my body instead of jumping the gun and doing it too fast.

    The weirdest thing- this past Monday (the day of the US eclipse) I woke up with little to no pain for the first time in years. I was so amazed. Even when my friend texted and said she was in my area and invited me to lunch (which would normally be fear inducing for me) and I went, I still had little to no pain. Later at home I watched the eclipse, went for a walk.. no pain. I was so happy yet that very night and every day since - BOOM pain (very intense pain in pelvic area) back full force. I have zero idea why. For a whole day I had a little hope and now it feels totally dashed. It was a whole new world for one day. I don’t get it at all. What are usual big triggers didn’t affect me at all. Staying at home usually feels safe to me but I’ve been home all week now and have horrible pain in spite of messages of safety. I’m so confused.

      I don't have a lot of experience with that specifically. However, it falls in the realm of what I talk about daily. Simply put, misaphonia is a response to sounds by a brain that is on high alert and perceiving danger. Safety is the solution. Everything I teach applies to you just as much as any other symptom.
