      This was so poorly planned out. I mean they knew that Andrew was bringing a heavy piece of equipment to the job site but didn't provide him with a solid enough surface to be able to lift the roof pieces off of there. Not only that but with how much wood rot the roof had of course it's going to fall apart. I don't blame Andy at all I blame who was running the show. They should have just taken a normal size excavator cave in the roof then send some guys up there to recipsaw the big sections of roof into smaller ones and yeet them off the roof into the trailer. Then again I'm no expert.

    It's pretty incredible how that roof (or any well-built roof) should have lifted up no problem, but... Yea plans changed quickly on how to lift the roof considering how amazing it is the thing hadn't already caved in now that we can observe its condition. I mean those beams could barely support the weight of the plywood and shingles nailed directly to it. A hurricane would have shipped that roof to Michigan overnight for free. This is one of the best demonstrations of WHY AC wanted a metal structure in the first place on his property - first to house tools, vehicles, and his metal shop. Then later to live in. The weather and especially the winter there is just ridiculous.

    I appreciate how mellow everyone was. Again beautifully documented. Even though it was bizarre, no-one wearing hard hats and in fact me yelling at the screen, I built a house myself with my partner and our project “evolved” away from the original plan as well. I guess everyone just does what they can, in the cold sun and who can complain with that view!

    I'm having my houses roof picked up and lifted so I can raise its height and make the attic into liveable space this summer!
    Its a good idea. They just needed to have a structural engineer actually work it out for them before telling you to lift it haha.

    • @1STGeneral
      @1STGeneral 3 года назад +1

      Hopefully you're roof was properly constructed and not rotted and only one layer of shingles. Good luck hopefully from the foundation up an engineering firm calculated max possible load and not just what you told them it was going to be used for

    • @Luckingsworth
      @Luckingsworth 3 года назад

      @@1STGeneral Yeah its all squared away. We are bracing the roof structure to ensure everything remains square (triangle?). No rot or anything, the roof was just done by the previous owners which is why we went this route rather than ripping everything off. Plus wood is so damn expensive here now thanks to the Derecho.
      Adding an additional support column in the basement and a few beams to span the floor joists without them sagging. The foundation was overenginered thanks to the developers using a cookie cutter design for both the single and double story homes in the area so its already good to bear the load.
