I have the Voightlander 35mm f2 APO and it’s wonderful. It might sound a small thing, but being chipped really helps as the focus square turns green when in focus. This means that you don’t have to turn on focus peaking which I can find distracting when trying to compose with manual lenses. I just wish that Nikon would make the focus point move to the eye when in eye / face detection mode, you would then only need to turn the focus until the box goes green and your in perfect eye focus. I don’t know why this would be impossible as with Nikon AF lenses the camera still finds the eye when it ain’t in focus, so it should work here. I guess that Nikon haven’t thought about this mode with a manual focus lens.
@@thedarkslide yes and it looks like it works really well from the review videos. It would be lovely if they rolled this back onto older cameras, but that may not be possible, anyway, I’m looking for a replacement for my Z7 next year, so hopefully then. P.S. I’ve recently got the Voightlander 50mm f1.0 and have been using it successfully on the Z7, manual focus and all!
I use the 35mm f2 APO-Lanthar with my Z7 for landscapes and I love that combination, I am seriously thinking about adding this 50mm as well, it looks so good.
Voigtlander crushes with their manual lenses. I've got the 40mm f/2 in F mount and it's practically a pancake. This looks just as sharp and with that unique rendering.
Lovely rendering from that lens from what I see here. I recently traded my Voightlander 15mm F4.5 and can attest to their build quality and handling (just didn’t shoot at 15mm often enough to keep it).
Thanks for your candid review. I have the 50mm f/1.0 Nokton and am considering trading it for this 50mm f/2 APO and am wondering how they directly compare for you? It seems the APO would provide better rendering.
Hello Both, Yes interesting lenses but not for my. I would love to see some of the Zeiss lenses in the Z mount tested by you. Thanks so the video. keep well, keep safe and enjoy photography. :)
Thought about it, but too much money - would sooner choose a battered 2nd hand Loxia or adapt an oldie --- but hey, i don't buy Leica either, so I am not their audience am I.

A year later and Nikon did just that, the feature you are asking for is now in the Nikon Z f.

I've lusted after voigtlander lenses for so long but I couldn't justify their cost. This one seems like a stellar lens
I have a Z fc and I am looking forward to your review of the Voigtlander 23mm f/1.2 Nokton
Nice glass. I have the Voigtlander 1.4/58 F mount which is an amazing lens. Not quite up there with the Noct-Nikkor, but quite close.

Thank you for making these videos. They have really helped me select my kit.

Ahh Brighton. My old stomping ground from university days. Loving the pictures - if only I could afford it (and a new camera to put it on🤣)
Being that I have every other 50 f1.8 F mount lens I adapt to my Z5, I am actually considering this lens for the unique image rendering.
Great look at Voitlander.
Seems to have a different look to the other older APO type lenses...🦘

Malt vinegar on fish & Chips is mandatory! Salt and vinegar on chips and crisps are the best!
Very good! You guys forgot to put on your “Do you know who I am” badges...
Are you using any presets on these images? Colors look really good and vintage for the lighting
Now today i ordered this Lens for my Z 7. I hope that's right. alternative i preferred the nikon 58 mm 1.4 G for my Z.
Eager for 23mm Voigtlander Z lens….saving up!
Tune in this sunday for the review of that Voigtlander Z 23mm lens. A quick spoiler, it is worth saving up!

This might very well be the sharpest full frame 50mm lens for Nikon Z and Sony E(!).
I’m surprised you didn’t run into Gordon Laing out on the beach also testing lenses! 😉 Cheers!
Zoltar is still there!
Thanks!
You're most welcome!!! 😀
Oh, you're at Brigton beach, why don't you guys do a collaboration with Gordon Laign
great idea!
Salt and vinegar all the way 😋
