That stuff is CANE, baby! Sugar. And likely the fire is someone burning out their field. (Louisiana gal here). BTW - the Blimp if I recall, is moored in Homestead. I used to work for Goodyear - and book all the blimp rides and schedules in Northern CA. Occasionally the blimp is available for rides to top Dealers and special customers. Find your District/Region office and ask if you can get on the list for a blimp ride next time its near you. I've been on it quite a few times, and so have my friends. The list isn't as long as you think, cuz people think its unavailable. The ride is fabulous - unique - and some of the best photos you'll ever take.
Just seeing the sun shining and the palm trees helps the winter blues go away from NY. Glad Florida is recovering from Ian and you guys are enjoying the good weather.
The Florida weather is beautiful right now. Ian hit Ft. Myers though, which is nowhere near where the video was shot. I haven't been there since Ian hit, but they are definitely still cleaning and rebuilding.
Hope you and your mum enjoyed your mini vacation. Being from the UK I really appreciate you documenting your adventures as it gives great inspiration for my next vacation to Florida! Have a great day Adam 😊
Thanks for sharing your Key West trip with your Mom. I’ve never been but will make it there one day. The crop y’all saw, that looked like corn, is sugar cane. I grew up in south Louisiana and there’s ALOT of that crop grown here. Back in the day, we would pull over to the side of the road and my Dad would cut a stalk for us kids. We loved the sweet juice inside the cane. Thanks again for another great video. I really enjoy watching and following along.
When I lived in Florida, I loved traveling up the center to see all these old towns and places, and the ranches. I miss that, and enjoy your travels to remind me of happy times there. I loved going past the orange groves, and the processing plant, the smell was awesome! I look forward to more of your travels, especially with your folks!
Another great video. Hate to see this trip come to an end, but can't wait to see what is coming up next. Glad you and your mom had a great time and made more memories. I wish we had a produce stand like that one in our area. Great job and great son Adam.
Adam, that’s sugarcane, for sure…. Also, you being a film buff, look up or rewatch Empire of the Ants, starring Joan collins. It was filmed in that area, and the giant ant beds used are the old Bagasse (sugar cane residue) mounds from the processing plant, sugar cane growers in Belle Glade Also, Mel Tilis, the country singer/comedian, grew up in Pahokee. Your mom and dad likely remember him. 😀 Belle glade and pahokee have many professional football players who went to high school, and were recruited from the local H.S.’s. Quite a feat for as small as those towns are.
I use to take a long hot bumpy bus ride to Belle Glade to play Friday night high school football games against Glades Central high school in the late 90's. Very tense atmosphere. Refs afraid to make certain calls. Shoulder pads off and held up against the windows and helmets on leaving.
Awesome to see your still having fun in Key West, say hello to your mother. Stay safe you two, I'm glade you let her rest sometimes, all that walking can be tired some. Thanks for the video Adam 😎👍📸
wow, the lifestyle in the first part of the vid remind me of my days growing up, the animals the fruits and vegetables the whole country style, i miss it all. at 6:44 into the vid i literally got teary-eyed seeing the sugar cane fields, it evoked memories of a bygone era here on the island. back then you knew it was cane harvest time because there were ashes falling from the sky, trucks would then haul the cane stalks to the sugar mill and you can smell molasses in the air when it's processing at the mill. We never complained about the ashes or anything because it was the way of life. thanks Adam and MamaWoo for taking us on your journies. I have to mention that a few vids ago in Key West when MamaWoo bought her straw hat i thought it was hilariously adorable you two looked so tourist-like, lol. Thank you for the great road trip vlogs!
Adam, Mum. On my road map of Florida I could'nt even find some of these places you drove through. This is how Florida was before Walt came to town. Early 60's Florida was refered to as the forgotten state. Back then, the buildings we saw in Pahokee you could find the same ones on the outskirts of Orlando. Interesting travels. Cheers, Chris Perry.
Love these types of vlogs. Excited to see Robert is Here. I've not been, but my son stopped there during a school snorkeling trip to the keys and said he had the best milkshake ever. Pity about the Desert Inn. I stopped by there years ago and thought it was pretty interesting. Seems like i remember a sign about violent chickens? Funny! Like everyone has said, the crop you saw was sugar. US Sugar is based in Clewiston.
I know you have already gotten comments about the sugar cane fields but I am not sure anyone mentioned that the Belle Glade is well known for the produce that is grown there. Perhaps that structure you saw that looked like an old motel was apartments for the migrant workers. I love how you have been showing the back roads of Florida and even more fun is that you have your Mom along.
It's So nice to see yeehaw junction again.. & Keenansville too. I knew a man that lived near my parents place in Keenansville, he helped rebuild the old school back in the 1980s. His name was Paul Tabor. Very nice man. A Very skilled carpenter. Thanks for Videoing it..
Hi Adam and Mom: Sure enjoyed your mini-vacation in the Keys. I never got down there when I lived in Homestead. I was there when Hurricane Andrew, Aug 1992 came thru and wiped us OFF the map. It was horrible. We couldn't get out and had to survive the 7 and half hours of storm. We lost everything. I still have dreams of it. Homestead recovered and people moved back, I did not move back. I have one friend that is still living there but wants out of the area. I hope he makes it happen. I would rather live around the Orlando area, if I come back there again. I hope all is well with you all and thanks again for the interesting sights that you share. Blessings.
So sad to see the Desert Inn like that. We ate there only once. In 2017 we were traveling from Tampa Bay to Ft Lauderdale and stopped along the way. The food was amazing. I was hoping they would save it but, it looks like it's just going to sit there and rot.
That lizard in the desert inn is either a green iguana and its moving its way north. They will be well established in the orlando area soon. Or a broad headed skink.
You have to wonder when driving through run down and abandon towns, cities etc., something made them grow and work and then something happened to make them dry up and just empty.
What a beautiful sunny day for this trip back home and I will say I really enjoyed seeing the things you showed along the way but what really hit me was seeing the Desert Inn again and I remember all to well the other times you documented the Desert Inn and I still can’t believe to this day nothing has been done to it now I’m not sure but I’m thinking that property there is pretty valuable but feel free to correct me if I’m wrong anyways thanks for a great day on your drive back home now with that peace ☮️ love ❤️ and happiness to you Adam and your mom and I’ll see you on the next awesome Adam the daily woo adventure peace ☮️ out ✌️
@@TheDailyWoo - they burn sugarcane fields in Hawaii to clear them for replanting. It appears they were doing the same off in the distance in that shot.
The Desert Inn actually close in June of 2018....before the crash. After the crash this was written.. The President of the Osceola County Historical Society, which owns and operated the Desert Inn, stated that a determination will be made if any part of the building can be saved pending a survey by a structural engineer.
7 years ago we drove down the east coast of Florida and turned right at Palm Beach we drove across the state and ended up in Fort Meyers. The section we drove across was cane fields as far as you could see, abandoned towns, people living in shacks and run down trailers orange groves and lots of cattle the part of Florida not in the tourist brochure
Interesting.. I now I want to check out key west and that fruit stand looks awesome. Thank you for sharing, my hubby and I watch your videos every morning with hot coffee 😁
I half-expected to see Mama Woo sitting on a hay bale in the animal enclosure with all the furbabies (and tortoises) at Robert Is Here! January corn on the cob and fried okra? Everybody's welcome to Sunday dinner at Pastor and Mrs. Woo's home! Bring your own sweet tea and fork. Sweet vlog, Adam.
Hello Adam. I'm enjoying this video. When I lived in Pompano Bch, Florida for 9 and a half years, I use to love taking drives up through Belle Glade and other towns around Lake Okeechobee. Was and enjoyable ride with my mom. I recognize the places you went through. Good memories of my time in Florida in the 1980s and 1990's. Thanks for all the cool videos you share with us.
I was wondering just last week what was going on with the Desert Inn. It looks like they are just letting it collapse on it's own. If it's on the list of historic places they may be having a problem getting permission to tear it down. But it's too far gone now to save. Hopefully someone will try to somehow save some of the murals, although it wouldn't be easy.
We used to camp in the Florida Everglades, also in Pahokee on Lake Okechobee and on one of the canals leading to Lake Okeechobee in the past 25 years or so. I am familiar with all of the places in your video, but haven't been there for many years and found your video to be interesting as to the state of repair of many of the places in our past travels. Those plants you thought looked like corn stalks are sugar cane. The fields are burned and the left over plant is hauled to the plants where they turn it into sugar cane sugar. Also Pa'-hoe-kee is right. Keep on filming, loved it. We did stop at the Desert Inn once or twice to eat--the hamburgers were good and great fried green tomatoes. Was very, very rustic inside and the restaurant changed hands frequently because their rent was high and business was slow with the newer gas station close to the toll road grabbing customers before getting that far. It eventually closed and when the truck drove into it, that finished it and it stands like a skeleton of times past.
Forgot to add, next time go up the West side of Lake Okeechobee. There are a lot of interesting places there too--you can see Old Florida on these roads around Lake Okeechobee.
Got to see the old 80s movie called Angel City where Ralph Wait from the Waltons played in. About a West Virginia family that moves to Florida City to work in the fields at a migrant camp and they get trapped and can't leave. Awesome movie
I started watching back in your urbex days. But have just fallen in love with your content. I won't lie though. I was really hoping you'd just do a quick walk around in the hospital lol.
Sugar Cane, got a lot of it in South Florida. Never go through Pahokee it is a bad place and so is Bell Glade. Was really nice many years ago. I live in Okeechobee🤠 Treasure Island is part of Okeechobee, it is a large county.Yee Haw Juction needs to be cleaned up. Oh yeah, you said Pahokee right the first time.👍
Glad to see you and your mom taking some back roads in Florida. I have been nearly or almost everywhere in Florida away from the Florida that most visitors see. A whole different Florida, not the beach, bikini clad girls and resorts most people only see. You probably have been to many of the unusual places, small towns that could be anywhere USA. Mostly abandoned downtown's, rundown buildings and old cars parked on the property. I could suggest places to visit, but you may find them if you keep looking well off the four lanes.
I was going to say that building a new Desert Inn would be a gold mine for travelers. Turn it into a super nice gas station/ restaurant. But then I saw there’s a Pilot travel center nearby. So that’s probably why it hasn’t been rebuilt.
We went down to the abandoned missile silo near there and saw one of your stickers. Thank you for all the awesome content. I learn so much about my state.
Yeah, that is sugar cane that is grown all around that area. The fire is them burning the remaining cane stump after it's harvested (natural fertilizer). The buildings that looked like a motel I believe were apartments for the cane workers. I generally go towards Moore Haven, Sebring and the Bok Tower. Your way was more interesting. I remember Ozzie and Jack's run-in with Robert. Did your Mom say, "Fried Oprah"? I think Hurricane Andrew's affects still linger (1992). Love the bathroom at the Desert Inn, mine has the same exact retro tiling but not open-air. Thanks for the vid.
@@kathiefilkins445 Good to know especially if you're gonna work those fields. I am always amazed at how far the fields span and how long you have to drive for a change of landscape!
The Glades are known for growing sugarcane. That's what you saw throughout Belle Glade and Pahokee. (The "o" sounds like "oh" not "ah") Okeechobee County is home to the City of Okeechobee as well as multiple other towns, neighborhoods, and subdivisions. Treasure Island is one of those smaller communities. You were specifically in TI. I live on the East Coast and I love the drive through the small towns in the center of the state. I avoid the Turnpike and take the back roads at every chance.
hi again Adam and mom , another interesting video , the blimp is out , wait for the Ufo sightings to start lol , so sad to see the desert inn looking like that , well done and thank you 😊
Love these trips with Mama Woo. I am so glad you stopped by the Desert Inn. Over the summer one of your viewers commented that another truck had run into it.
This trip is one of your best ! Love all the m=names of these little towns and the interesting little side notes you add. You passed through Springfield,Ga. and surrounding area which is where I live. It would have been great to have met you. Keep up these amazing videos, and Happy New Year ( 2023) :)
As Adam walks around the Desert Inn the fruit in the car is heating up and the car is now a fruit wagon, lol! Always an interesting journey with you Adam. Safe travels! Thank you for the EYW trip!!
I’m an Aussie I love your videos and would love to come check out your amazing country . Something I noticed in the vids where when you go into rural towns it looks like there’s movie theatres or cinemas in those towns where equivalent size towns there wouldn’t be
@@theresagomez2605 I live in the south so here its brown snakes which are really deadly and a red bellys and then theres sharks lol but in the north is where you get crocs sharks and snakes yikes.I would love to see florida
That was sugar cane.100% I can confirm, I grew up in and around those small towns. Belle Glade. Clewiston, Pahokee, if you go to the Pahokee hospital theirs no fence.
I used to live in Manhattan Beach, ca close to where the California edition of the Goodyear blimp located in Carson California. I know that you used to be able to get on a waiting list for rides. You should check into the Florida Goodyear blimp and see if you can get a ride. Would be an epic vlog! Thanks for all you do Adam!
Hi Adam and mumma woo. It's a shame when you get structures like long motels when they could be put to good use for the homeless. There is to many on the streets. from 🇬🇧👍👍 an old cockney gal
Thanks Adam Da Woo for the laugh. Stampede! Stampede! That place is cool. Your mama reminds me of what I'd get from a place like that. I have to de slime my okra first though. That one Florida town reminded me of Meigs Georgia. I thought it was the turn off to Thomasville, and it was a sad little town with some cute houses and a cute downtown with literally nothing there to speak of. It was very sad to see.
I was wondering how long it was going to take you to realize the year call out mistake. Not bad, you got it at the 4 minute mark lol. Another great video Adam, thank you.
My guess is the hurricanes really damaged that already damaged building. Love seeing the long ago towns of Florida. That’s what happens when highways go up the small towns are bypassed. Sad
We drive by the Desert Inn practically every Sunday (not this week though). It's a shame what happened, but I don't see why it was put on the Registry. I have pictures of the place before the crash, with the truck embedded in the building and recently. That intersection is oddly configured and pretty busy; it might be hard to find something to build there.

Goodyear Blimp is actually stationed in Pompano Beach, FL and may have been heading to Tampa for a football event.
Spot on...Florida is the largest producer of cane sugar, particularly southern FLA.

They burn the cane to kill snakes, rats etc before they harvest
@@kathiefilkins445 Good to know especially if you're gonna work those fields. I am always amazed at how far the fields span and how long you have to drive for a change of landscape!
The Glades are known for growing sugarcane. That's what you saw throughout Belle Glade and Pahokee. (The "o" sounds like "oh" not "ah")
Okeechobee County is home to the City of Okeechobee as well as multiple other towns, neighborhoods, and subdivisions. Treasure Island is one of those smaller communities. You were specifically in TI.
I live on the East Coast and I love the drive through the small towns in the center of the state. I avoid the Turnpike and take the back roads at every chance.
The old hospital closed in 2009. There’s a new one now. That’s sugar cane growing in the fields.your Mom is so cute!
I love following you to each town with my map
Usually, if a word ends in vowels, the vowels before say their name...
PaHO(as Santa says... Ho Ho Ho) key. Love the explorations. Hi Mom!
I discovered your channel the other day through Grimmlife collective love your videos. Wish I were trailing behind. 😊
I'm dreaming of going back to Robert is Here! Love their smoothies. We might take a detour there after our cruise in March.
Love this style of videos of yours
hi again Adam and mom , another interesting video , the blimp is out , wait for the Ufo sightings to start lol , so sad to see the desert inn looking like that , well done and thank you 😊
I hope you are having a wonderful New Year
So far so good !
@@TheDailyWoo that's great to hear
Love these trips with Mama Woo. I am so glad you stopped by the Desert Inn. Over the summer one of your viewers commented that another truck had run into it.
That "Robert Is Here" place is just waaaay cool. If I lived close by, I'd probably stop by 2 or 3 times a week, just to see the animals.
Odd but I like to watch these videos and have maps open on another screen to follow along.
Adam, one of the three Goodyear Blimp bases is in Pompano Beach.
Oh no kidding ? Didn’t realize that
This trip is one of your best !
Something I noticed in the vids where when you go into rural towns it looks like there’s movie theatres or cinemas in those towns where equivalent size towns there wouldn’t be
Come on over
We joke that Florida is the Australia of the US because we have unique wildlife that scares the faint of heart. Lol.
@@theresagomez2605 I live in the south so here its brown snakes which are really deadly and a red bellys and then theres sharks lol but in the north is where you get crocs sharks and snakes yikes.I would love to see florida
@@igavehimadollar3354 I'd love to see Australia too. I don't think I'd like the trip to get there though. Lol!
That was sugar cane.100% I can confirm, I grew up in and around those small towns. Belle Glade. Clewiston, Pahokee, if you go to the Pahokee hospital theirs no fence.
A lot of small towns in east texas are reminiscent of this town. Primarily around the town of Lone Star.
Super amazing video
Great trip w your mom thanks !
You make me smile. 😊
Very nice 👌 thanx for sharing 👍
Sad
Adam,do your parents watch you daily, weekly, never? Just wondering ,as a parent it must be nice to see your son doing amazing things
Said 2022 so confidently you were doing pretty well saying the right year so far lol
