with both those houses basements being flooded i'd say that they had sump-pumps to keep them dry when they were lived in, no electric, no water drainage. this may become a problem if they are planning to put in underpasses as the water table may be high in the area.
Horrible train crossings down here south of Barrington in Chicago, Niles, Skokie, and Morton Grove. Thanks for enlightening us about the homes. Sad to see it, but it was much needed up there. Now if they can do something about it down here we'll be good. There's been multiple times where the train stops and I've driven to the next east west bound major streets to no avail.
This is one town next to me. Not the first time a train accident has happened near here, back in 95 there was a bus/train collision that killed 7 kids from Cary Grove Highschool. It split the bus in half.
On google maps it shows that people were still living in some of these houses in June 2022, some were already torn down by then, but the lots were not totally cleared off completely. All but these two homes designated for this project were gone in June 2024. So somewhere in between those dates they became empty or torn down. It's strange that the houses across the street aren't up for demolition. It's always strange that people leave the photos and personal items. Of all the things I'd be getting out of my house would be photos and personal things, but then I'd not be leaving nothing behind anyway! Confused why they would take it through a nice subdivision instead of somewhere in the business district.
In Ohio they can’t take property because Ohio doesn’t have the right to. You can fight to keep your property and you will probably win in a court room.
That place is huge. The kitchen is bigger than my whole apartment. Its a cool adventure. Thanks for the ride You know this old.bird was terrified at the end
It's an unfortunate situation, but it's better than having your neighborhood annext for a warehouse. 22:22, I think this room originally had a hot tub in it.
lol or a bridge over the crossing. There’s more dodgy political stories behind the decision to take back the land. Probably going to be sold in the future for a distribution center at an enormous profit.
That flooring on most of the rooms was top notch flooring. Also when I was a kid I would have trashed something like that too and lots of people would have. Anyways it's going to get torn down so let the kids have fun I say
I don't understand, looking at Google Maps, to why the state didn't take BOTH SIDES of the road? It looks like they only took about maybe 10 houses JUST on one side of the road.
Yes. Having worked in local politics and in planning, this sounds like a land grab for future resale likely to industry - perfect location for a large distribution centre- road and rail access literally off the back.
I had heard the road they are putting through those homes is they are temporarily rerouting Northwest Highway on that land while they dig out the current part of Northwest Highway at the crossing. When it’s all done NW Highway will be rerouted back onto the original route of NW Highway with the new underpass and where the temporary road is built on these homes will be ripped up and just be replanted with grass and trees
Wow, never heard that this happened in barrington. Crazy but yeah, this has happened a lot in the suburbs of chicago. Never thought a stopped train would delay ambulances etc
in my hometown of Chico CA the train rails run through n through they're chain link fenced off in area's but sadly there are people run over like on a regular basis. College folk's just out wondering about maybe intoxicated maybe wearing headphones, homeless people just about anybody not acting within prudent reasoning just cut up into unbearable too be seen in witness identification, open casket just gross. These train's aren't just moseying along they proceed through at breathtaking speed's of a hundred miles per hour and not slow enough to even contemplate an emanetdomaim Just💨zoom through as fast and efficient as possible and so it is.
I can't quite figure out why a stalled train caused a whole neighborhood to be abandoned, not sure about what happened exactly, If anybody know anything, please enlighten me here .I'd appreciate it very kindly.
I'm sure they could just send another engine down the track to pull the train somewhere else. ( it might take some time to do that, but at least the roads would be open again )
Where I live there's a train that does this Literally had to go through court problems over it. I was summoned for jury duty. And I have a bad limp and I'm not about to walk a 1/2 mile to a crossing around the train. Trains are only supposed to block an intersection for a maximum of 15 minutes. This train sat there for 45 minutes. I told the judge. It's not my fault, take it up with the train not to mention they broke federal law. If your court proceedings were that important, they should take precedence over the train. They need to make changes either the railroad companies need to build bridges. Or tunnels, either way, this is getting really f****** old.
They shouldn't have cut any of the trees. They should have just torn out the roads. Driveways houses curb gutter all the infrastructure and left the trees alone.
The first fire dept I worked for I had a call for a house fire with entrapment. The area we had to go had 2 ways of going and both had a train track. Well that day train was stopped and by the time we got them to move and got the the fire a mother and 2 kids had died…
Surprised none of the other residents has not taken the good nice appliances for themselves , they left really nice updated appliances behind . We'll the demo people will that's for sure & whatever else they can salvage .....

They put pumps in. We have 4 underpasses and each one has massive pumps. I live in Louisiana and the water table is like 6 inches lol

Yeah man. I remember the day the train stalled like yesterday. Many such cases!
those racist trains!
This is one town next to me. Not the first time a train accident has happened near here, back in 95 there was a bus/train collision that killed 7 kids from Cary Grove Highschool. It split the bus in half.
I heard about that. Crazy
I love how respectful you are of the family photos, etc.

Yea I would never leave pic's behind
That family deserves to get there stuff back
Nobody ever gets "Paid well" through eminent domain...
True!
In Ohio they can’t take property because Ohio doesn’t have the right to. You can fight to keep your property and you will probably win in a court room.
It happened in the 70s to make room for a failed national Forrest under the Ford administration destroyed an entire town
Good, people should have a right to keep his/her property. Eminent domain is evil:(
In ohio they can take your property idk wtf ur talking about iv seen it happen more then once in ohio so i know you lying
Love your videos. And your research and information are amazing and informative.
You guys make great content keep it up!
Thanks so much!
That place is huge. The kitchen is bigger than my whole apartment. Its a cool adventure. Thanks for the ride
You know this old.bird was terrified at the end
All in the so called name of progress! Sad they had to leave those beautiful homes! Awesome video as always! 👍👍❤️🤘✊
Why didn’t the town build a road bridge over the railway? It would have been cheaper than buying all the land and demolishing the neighbourhoods.
Because wisdom & being frugal are a lost art.
us 14 is getting an underpass
Train companies should be held to building over-or under-passes
i love how the fridge was spray painted with the phrase 'no food fat ass' lol
I hope you saved the squirrel or whatever that animal was, but so sad to see these beautiful homes demolished.
Good Job again Stringer 👍
It's an unfortunate situation, but it's better than having your neighborhood annext for a warehouse.
22:22, I think this room originally had a hot tub in it.
They should have built a road around the tracks
I believe they call that a bridge
lol or a bridge over the crossing. There’s more dodgy political stories behind the decision to take back the land. Probably going to be sold in the future for a distribution center at an enormous profit.
Not that easy
Great video. Thank you. I love your videos.

Very nice video and story once again 👍

Look at the map at the end

Thanks man!
Wow, never heard that this happened in barrington. Crazy but yeah, this has happened a lot in the suburbs of chicago. Never thought a stopped train would delay ambulances etc
I'm sure there are squatters in that first house & those are the squatters belongings. The second house is most likely left behind by the owners
Why would you have to leave your house because a train stopped
You should watch the video again. It explains why.
Nice exploration vid once again. Also, is the music in the beginning by Navie D?
You got it!
Why does it matter if you share the location because obviously it's local kids that know those houses are there.
So it doesn't get locked up further and the owners (or government) watches my videos
It's never a good idea to open a refrigerator in a abandoned house.
@ timestamp 10:59 - it appears that bedroom with the computer stuff must have been a home office.
This is unreal!
There’s a lot more abandoned neighborhoods around here than I thought
Nobody is documenting them! They're everywhere. When they built the highway through oak brook, thousands of homes were destroyed...

Nah, house alien. They put an alien in the vents of EVERY abandoned house now, to deturr trespassers.
I can't quite figure out why a stalled train caused a whole neighborhood to be abandoned, not sure about what happened exactly, If anybody know anything, please enlighten me here .I'd appreciate it very kindly.

Idk watch the video lol
Too long didn't read. Just give us a rundown dude. @@StringerMedia
A lot of stuff to salvage. Light fixtures and French doors etc.
When was the last house demolished?
Yes
This is why trains should be on overpass or underpass or bridge. Trains should not be able to stop on roads
Demolished and build some more houses, I bet.
Bruh you don't even have to watch the video just check the title 😂
Hi 👍✌️
We have bridges over train tracks here
Someone got smart and stripped the kitchen
This isn't to far from Dundee rd Walmart in the Palatine area

Wow
Did you get the squirrel out?
No
Why waste those homes !!!!
We had similar situations in neenah WI they put in over passes
Everthang they leave behind they might've not had a way to carry it or move it and they couldn't sell it so they left it behind.
They shouldn't have cut any of the trees. They should have just torn out the roads. Driveways houses curb gutter all the infrastructure and left the trees alone.

Wish my home was that nice
