  • Sharing my experience learning how to racewalk (still learning). This was after 4-months of trying to figure out the technique and go fast! I have improved since then but still have a lot to work on! This was a few years ago.
Believe my time was just over 26-minutes for 5-kilometres.
I had the wrong shoes, felt like my eyes were bugging out and was working really hard!

WoW, still 26 minutes is 8 minutes less than my first 5 km of my life which I just did this Saturday. But next time I'm going to find a quieter place than the cycle path in front of my house 😅, which will at least help me with my concentration. Thank you for your videos, it’s very interesting and encouraging.

That's a quick time. My PR for 5km is about 26:30, but it was many years ago. I doubt I could walk a sub 30 these days.

I have not gotten a lot quicker (24:59) but hoping to go sub 24 before I get too old lol ;)

Breathing is the name of the game. You can improve a lot your breathing, by making sure to always keep your head level. If you can nose breathe, you will warm-up the air intake going into your lungs. That will automatically ease your effort. Have fun ! A kind word, from RW coach Luc Bussières.

@@TalkingRacewalking If you would like short, medium or long term help, I can offer you free advices.
I became a NCCP (National Coaching Certification Program) formed coach, on May 23, 2024. I paid 6 hours of extra training specific to RW, at a very high rate, to better what I already knew.
I had the chance to be coached (in 2007) by Enrique Pena who coached Jefferson Perez (20 km RW Gold Medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games). I also trained 2 weeks alongside Philip Dunn (3 times 50 km RW olympian) and John Nunn (3 times 20 km RW olympian).
In 2007, I set the Canadian RW record over 50 km in the 45-49 y.o. age group. In 2007, I also won the gold medal, at the MAC/USATF 2007 - 20K Race Walk Championship in Central Park, New-York. So, I think I know a bit ;-) You can contact me, either by phone (514-208-5410) or by e-mail (lucbussieres2004@yahoo.ca).
      Have fun !

I’m impressed with your general style and technique.
I would suggest to focus on looking forward and drive a bit more with your arms.

Thanks! This was a few years ago after only a few months of trying to learn the technique 😀

    Cadence, step lenght, height?

@kultaka I am not sure - not sure I remember or kept stats from the walk. Not great technique, shoes were too minimal but remember it being really hard lol! There was absolutely no lifting - stride length was probably ok but not more than 1m and cadence would have been OK but not more than 160 I imagine.
