Racewalking Shoe review - 8mm drop Kiprun shoe?
Another shoe review - this time a discontinued Kiprun running shoe ---with an 8mm drop? Yep! I have always stuck to lower drop shoes - but this one was on sale --I like it! Listen and send me your comments and expereinces with racewalking with shoes with drop (difference between heel and toe) of 8mm or more.
Does the drop matter or more the stack height?

    Such a pity Newfeel are no longer being sold by Decathlon. They had a run of fantastic walking specific shoes at excellent prices, prior to this model. I've worn all my pairs out by now :( The store has nothing similar to it now of any quality. These shoes feel like they're good enough to be made and sold by somebody else, even at a higher price, if Decathalon aren't interested any more. They were being made in France as far as I was able to found out.

    • @TalkingRacewalking

      @DaveRudland yes - I think there was just not enough demand in Canada for them. Was even in contact with Decathlon and they made an effort - just not enough sales. Decent shoes but there are others I like more.

    Some of my favorite shoes back in the day were 8mm drop shoes. I tend to prefer less these days, but I’ve seen many others also use shoes with that drop, so I think that’s not a dealbreaker. Other shoes similar to this one that I know other walkers have used recently include the New Balance SuperComp pacer, Adidas Adizero Adios, ASICS Gel DS Trainer, etc. I agree completely with your comments about finding what works for you.

    What do you think is more taxing to the body (joints, etc.) of older athletes: racewalking or running?

    • @TalkingRacewalking
      @TalkingRacewalking 3 месяца назад

      @gainde1137 Good question. As someone who has run for 35yrs a d should have taken up racewalking a long time ago lol.... racewalking is alot easier on the body - simply because there is less impact (due to less air time). There is more hip movement and its more technical but less pounding than running.

    • @gainde1137
      @gainde1137 3 месяца назад

      @TalkingRacewalking Thank you for your opinion. Seems to be a good competitive discipline which is not so hard to the body and suitable for masters athletes.

    All they did from the 14 to the 15 was make a thicker better engineered mesh upper, and cost cut on the insole by not using the PWR run+ TPU insole from last gen and just went to a thinner EVA one. That’s why the stack height dropped, they didn’t re-engineer the midsole at all. It’s a decent “no frills” shoe but it really should be priced under $100 for the minuscule amount of R&D Saucony put into it. Especially when the kinvara 14 is easily found for $60-70 nowadays. It’s a shame Saucony is letting their kinvara fade away without updating it. They could have done so much more! At least infuse nitrogen, TPU, or TPEE like brooks did to the EVA, or a peba blend like NB. You can keep the purists happy while making it actually modern performing.

      @kultaka I am not sure - not sure I remember or kept stats from the walk. Not great technique, shoes were too minimal but remember it being really hard lol! There must always be a foot touching the ground. If the feet leave the ground, then no mater how you move or how slow you are going, you are running. Walking always has one foot on the ground.

    • @TalkingRacewalking
      @TalkingRacewalking 5 месяцев назад

      @reisezume2157 no not quite. Check out my Podcast episode where I talk to racewalk geeks and an academic about what is walking, running and racewalking. It's not that simple and no if someone's foot comes off the ground, it does not mean they are running, it means their foot came off the ground. There is some grey area.... like is a slow runner who basically shuffles and maintains one foot on the ground at all times...a walker? I see where you and others are coming from - but racewalking is somewhere between running walking 😀

    • @TalkingRacewalking
      @TalkingRacewalking 5 месяцев назад

      @BlazerLz go check out his full reel. Wanted to get people's attention. May do one myself. Such a common question and comment. Racewalking requires a straight leg when heel makes contact and as it passes under the body, unique hip movement to accommodate this and forward and back hip movement to help drive legs forward and push from the back foot, relies heavily on the hamstrings and also requires you to try and maintain contact with one foot at all times....as judged by human eye of a judge...thus allowing some loss of contact (a few mm/ms of loss) when racewalkers are going fast. Too much loss of contact leads to red cards and DQ. Goal is allow racewalkers to be human but to push them to try and maintain contact as much as possible. This is what makes the sport hard - adhering to rules while pushing the limit - walkers work to refine there technique to be fast and efficient and low to the ground.

    Hi! I have flat feet and I'm just now getting into racewalking and i love it but I had to pause bc my old shoes are causing me some pain. I saw that Carmen had done a blog on recovering from a foot injury and she said the Reshod® Pushover® Walking Shoe (Red) was perfect for her during that. I'm eagar to get back to my walking so I wanted to know if you think the red pushover is great for flat feet? Hopefully you see this and get back to me soon, not having the right shoes realy sucks rn 😂❤

    • @TalkingRacewalking
      @TalkingRacewalking 5 месяцев назад

      @BlckgalAnointed hi! Really hard to evaluate or advise without seeing your feet. If you have flat feet due to overpronation (arch collapsing) a stable shoe can help but you may need an insole or an orthotic. If you have questions about your feet go to a Pedorthist, Podiatrist or a knowledgeable shoe guy at a running shop.

    • @TalkingRacewalking
      @TalkingRacewalking 5 месяцев назад

      @zakymaa super shoes with a thick stack height are worn by some elites but generally most will advise something with a low drop and not too thick a midsole (especially at the heel). Main thing is to have a shoe that helps you roll smoothly from heel to toe and works with your racewalk technique and pace - and that fits your foot properly and feels comfortable.
