I’m speechless! Well done both!
Thank you! :)
This was incredible
@@rystal Oh my god even rystal is here! If you respond Im gonna be amazed a youtuber like you with over 500 subs responds IM SO EXITED!!!
The man himself!
@@JonasTyroller hi jonas
As a fellow jammer, it can feel unfair when big RUclipsrs participate and get tons of clicks because of how known they are. So it's very cool to see you two totally ditch that advantage, and try to get to the top anyway. I've got a lot of respect for that. And you did an awesome job at that, congrats on finishing as high as you did!
I think being a bit RUclipsr helps with visibility. I don't think it helps with the ratings, though. Might even be that people hold you to a higher standard if they know who you are. Not too sure what's even better.
@@JonasTyroller regardless, choosing to stay anonymous and join in the spirit of the jam is greatly appreciated
does that seem unfair to you? and not compete solo dev vs teams of 16 people? xd
@@martymcfly9984 As everybody is allowed to team up if they want to, I see no problem with that.
@@JonasTyroller I'm fairly confident it also helps slightly with the ratings (*slightly*)
Here's an example to back my point: in april 2013, a certain Robert Galbraith wrote a book called "The Cuckoo's Calling".
The book seemed to be somewhat well received by the critics but not of exceptional quality (haven't read it, but most accounts seem to place it in the "fairly decent, but I've read better" category). Using internet archive, it was rated (on goodreads):
- 3.75/5 on the 27th of march 2013 (4 ratings)
- 4.18/5 on the 12th of june 2013 (38 ratings, rated 4.23 on average by the 34 new raters)
- 4.03/5 on the 14th of july 2013 (94 ratings, rated 3.93 on average by the 56 new raters)
This is fairly normal: a decent but not exceptional score that's a bit unstable at first (with very few ratings), stabilizes quickly, and then starts to steadily and slowly decrease to reach a slightly lower value months later (as the novelty wears off and more people that aren't inconditional fans of the genre randomly pick it up and rate it).
But, around that date, it was revealed that JK Rowling and Robert Galbraith were actually the same person! ( www.thetimes.co.uk/article/jk-rowling-unmasked-as-author-of-bestselling-crime-novel-xdmzw0c3zsw )
- 4.21/5 on the 18th of july 2013 (306 ratings, rated 4.29 on average by the 212 new raters)
- 4.16/5 on the 25th of july 2013 (1763 ratings, rated 4.15 on average by the 1457 new raters)
- 4.14/5 on the 26th of july 2013 (2153 ratings, rated 4.05 on average by the 390 new raters)
- 4.12/5 on the 29th of july 2013 (2996 ratings, rated 4.07 on average by the 843 new raters)
It is now (2nd of august 2022) rated 3.87/5 on goodreads with 534,314 ratings.
(that specific example comes from a french youtube video from Mehdi Moussaid aka Fouloscopie: "Les musiques populaires sont-elles vraiment mieux que les autres ?", although I think that anecdote was exagerated in his video and I had to do a bit of digging on my own to get the above numbers)
Revealing that the book was written by JK Rowling definitely boosted its visibility, but it also bumped its ratings slightly at first (at least). It's easy to make hypotheses for why that could happen: fans hear of their favorite author's new book, are the first to buy and read it, and since they're more likely to enjoy it than the average person, they rate it higher than average. Then, when other people pick up the book, read it, and rate it, they're influenced by previous ratings (which have been inflated by the fans) and tend to rate it slightly higher than what they normally would have. Of course, there's also reactance and "higher expectations" that pulls ratings in the opposite direction, but usually, being known tends to improve the ratings rather than the opposite (at least at first), although the effect might not necessarily be dramatic.
For the "Stace cleared" typo you could just say that the pig is called "Stace" and you have cleared Stace from the blocking dice. Then it's a funny pun instead of a typo. #ItsAFeatureNotABug
Epic storytelling in this one Jonas. And the game looked cool too, all them satisfying explosions :o
yum yum yum. Yeah, the explosions are kinda addicting to look at. :D
Finally we can tell everyone what we made! :D
This has just been lots of fun as always - some very intense and fulfilling days, followed up with tons of super nice feedback. Can't wait for even more people to play it now that the truth is out! Hope you all like it
how is this comment from 10 hours ago?

@@fourk_ Since I'm featured in the video, Jonas shared it with me before publishing.
This video was amazing, felt like a documentary, well done to both of you for the game! Im sorry to say this, but next year I will win the GMTK game jam, and I will take what should be yours! (the first place) :)
You dare challenge me? This is your demise! AHAHAHAHAH! :D
@@JonasTyroller XD
good luck
lmaoooo
Holy cow. If there was a contest for best made Jam devlog, than I'm pretty sure you would win that one.
Jam DevLog Jam
What I loved the most about your two's game is the emotional response it evoked. Thanks to your beautiful art, audio and wiggle piggle schwobble wobble animation design. The comments on the game page clearly tell that it touched people - which is something the least game jam games can achieve. Piggly pigs are just suwuper cuwute and deserve freedom and happiness!
Thanks for choosing such a wonderful theme to wrap up this satisfying puzzle game. *oink oink*
What I love the most is you!
@@YaenGamedev Heyyyyy, I happen to love you the most too! It was fun hanging out with you and getting some passive jam vibes~ And it's still you guys who chose the piggly theme! It just makes me really happy (like you).
Top 10 reveals in anime history
I was one of the lucky few to try and rate this game (one of my favorites of the jam btw) and definitely wasn't expecting this hahahahahha
man i can't wait to watch the game jam movie
Despite lacking a lot of the dev story time and recorded parts you had to sacrifice to work harder on the game, I'd say this was your best video yet Jonas. I was smiling the whole way through and the game was definitely better than what you've done in jams before!
Well done! I love the narration on here.
My own jam progress didn’t go very well - too much IRL stuff going on to give it the time I wanted, but I feel like I did at least well enough with my very basic prototype to keep iterating on it.
Anyway, I’m glad you found a way to bring us some great joy from your experience with it. Thanks!
This was such epic storytelling, amazing journey. I feel motivated to grab a friend and make our own small game jam next weekend for training ourselves in the skills required. Amazing work 👏👏👏
I wonder sometimes if people do sabotage voting. During the voting week, there were some incredible games in the top 20 most played and most ranked. Only 1 of those games (Fire and Dice) made it into Mark's top 20. I noticed several games in Mark's top 20 had only been rated 12 times or so. Your game had been rated 51 times. My game got rated 161 times. Could it be a strategy to let your game fly under the radar to avoid sabotage voters?
I Appreciate how all the images added in the beginning (and throughout) are AI generated, As one who got access to Dall-E, AI is such a cool technology especially when it comes to image generation.
I was looking a comment like yours
I was definitely getting big midjourney vibes from those images... Well worth the sub fee
Great video! I love seeing your creative process. Awesome job in the Jam
I never though a video about gamejam making could be so epic. Good job both of you!
Bro I loved this. I have a brother who I encourage with videos like these and your video....sent straight to him for the inspirational gem it is.
I love your video! The effort you put in it is so great! :D
one of the finest videos made by jonas, well done!
Wow(ie)! honestly that's an amazing result and a very interesting idea going incognito for the jam!
congratulations again, the game looked fun!
One of the reasons I dont participate GMTK is because since it became so popular (even more than the first edition!) what I saw is that it became occupied easily by influencers, etc, that told their community "hey please, vote my game", and I found that a bit discouraging and unffair for "unknown peole". So what you done... My RESPECTS to you! AWESOME WORK!
I love this kind of content, I watched for 1 minute right now and I already love it! 9 beautiful minutes to go! :)
Amazing journey haha! Good job you two!
this is absolutely insane. Best video in the game development genre I've ever seen :D
Amazing! It was like I was watching a movie. I have entered your gamejam for the 3 day challenge will see how it dose. You make things interesting for everyone!
I love the way you tell the story and make the art of game jamming seem very noble. Incredible video
also my game placed in the spot right next to yours!
That's a really cool game idea! Congrats on th3 great placement!
Yoooo this was amazing! Great job you two!
really clever game idea, looks like a great puzzler and of course, super entertaining video again
Great video and game! I participated with few of my friends and we placed #91 with Desmidice. It was our first jam and I was a bit worried about our 35 ratings but we made it to honorable mentions. :D
I love the inclusion of the images generated by AI. Looks super cool!
I was actually sent this game by someone to play, and had no idea that you made it. Love it😁Great stuff!
🤔Interesting comment
@@jirushi3028 Hmm yes I wonder who sent me the game to play🤔🤔
Wow man. Great video and result and good luck next year :)
Well done! I really appreciate it when popular devs make separate accounts to compete on big jams like this. It can be really discouraging when you see the big names always popping up at the top of the ranks. It shows a lot of class on your end :)
Amazing video and storytelling!!
The game looks awesome!! Well done to both you 😄 Loved the devlog!
Thank you so much, Manisha!
Apart from that awesome game of yours, your video production quality is really well. Keep the spirit up!
I love the art in this video! Especially the castle in the clouds
super entertaining video. loved the music, the graphics, and now I want to play the game. one thing I take from your video is the "I'm too stressed so I'm going to take a break" that is something that a lot of us need to learn to do. it is said that if you are a pilot and your engine fails mid flight the first thing you need to do is rewind your watch. this applies to software development.
Enjoyed this video a lot been here since 1k subs
ONE OF THE BEST VIDEO in terms of flow of scenes!!!!
+ The game is 🔥
Itch should have a feature that hides your jam games from your account while the jam is ongoing and changes your profile for the jam randomly. Like changing your pfp and name for the jam only like you're a random person.
Wouldn't stop people from promoting their games outside of the platform though.
No but at rest it makes it easier not to
One of your best videos so far.
Super cool game! Really fits, i also loved the usernames lmao
This was the most epic and cinematic devlog I’ve ever seen in my life
Story telling was well done lad!
I really love the editing in this one! It feels like a refreshing difference from what you usually put out. It felt really epic!
Amazing video! as always!
Fantastic work Yän and Jonas. Love the game and video.
Thank you! I enjoyed your game too :)
The story telling really gave me chills lol.
love the editing
Your video editing skills are even as powerful as your game development skills! I enjoy all your videos! I especially found funny: Hackerman typing like in the Matrix and it's 'jglkhjhljkh' 😂 please let him return more often!
Can't wait for the Wowie jam!! I need to make sure I'm available for that one...
Great effort Congrats on placing in the top 100
Loving the AI art you used for this video! So creative and well done!
Wow the storytelling and arts in this video is so awesome.... Whoever made the arts deserves a lot of praise...and the storytelling was top notch....
What if I told you… No human made that art ?
@@Infiny92 then I would say wow, "tell me more XD"
Love the documentary style of this video!!
Oh my god! Amazing! I love the game idea :) You should've called the game "Piggy rolls the dice" haha.
Such a compelling character arc, such an amazing journey. We laughed, we cried, we loved. Well done boys.
Epic video and nice (or dice?) game. Congrats!
Next year you'll reach Top 10 💪🏾
Amazing job!
Epic story telling game jam devlog. Inspiring really.
Honestly I can see this becoming a amazing mobile (Landscape mode) game that targets the candy crush/older demographic !
I mean this in the least negative way possible just re-add the other animal concepts for different "worlds" a roadmap for every level and a lot of other levels (you can even make it random) and honestly I feel like it'll do amazingly!
this is your best video yet!
I like the use of ai images instead of stock photos in the video, that's very refreshing!
awesome video! loved it :D
Did Jonas discover MidJourney? lol Great video. Nice work on the game! Super satisfying!
I love the hand drawn art style and the game looks so juicy
Thank you so much! Glad you like my art :)
You gave me no motivational speech, yet I feel empowered.
This is like the Bronze to Challenger Speedruns :D Awesome Idea & execution!
Awesome work Jonas and Yän!
Thank you! :)
I didn't participate this year, but I'll be sure to challenge you next year!
Oh also, nice idea, dude. Knocked it out of the park.
Very snazy artsyle. I saw another comment suggesting making it into a mobile game and I strongly agree. Great, amazing and fantastic job!!
Next year's top 20 ain't big enough for the two of us!
Haha kidding of course! This is an amazing entry and congrats on making top 100!
Bravo guys!
one of my favorite jonas vids in a while
Amazing game idea!
I really like the style of this video
Such a cool Video, love it!!! Did you use Midjourney for the pictures in the back? xD
I love games in which tiny actions can cause big reactions
Love the MidJourney Art :D
Fantastic Stuff
the production quality on this video was incredible. Well Done. I have to ask were the majority of the photos in the video AI generated or something it gave me that vibe
Bro this video is a masterpiece
nice story telling bro
The midjourney art certainly gives it a diff feel than stock imagery
The smiling piggy warms my heart
Awesome Intro!! 👍
Heyyy nice I reviewed this game, looks like I have a cameo at 7:25 lol -- nice work guys!
Well someone is having fun with Dal-E :D
I wish I had Dall-E. It's MidJourney, but still very fun indeed. :D
Such a cool game idea!
Thank you! :)
It looks beautiful
Love the intro . I would watch a show like that
I like the part with the pigs and the explosions!
Awesome 😎
Dude this video was amazing, better than most films on netflix xD also amazing game, can't wait to see what you do next year and also can't wait for the WOWIE JAM!
really cool use of AI generated images :o, looks like maybe Midjourney? more like disco diffusion idk, can you confirm?
(love your vids
midjourney indeed!
Cool video style.
All the comments on next year’s jam on a ton of games are gonna be “Maybe this is Jonas’ game”
such a cool video to see!!!
Btw, are the paintings and art shown here from midjourney?
Thanks. Yes, they are.
