For me, this was definitely one of the highlights of the Rio Olympics. I remember calling my sister who was still at work and urging her to watch this match. We were both stunned. We play rugby in Jamaica, but one could never say that it is in our top ten most popular sports. I had to watch this to the end though. It was an absolute joy to witness. I'll be watching for Fiji in the rugby whenever we manage to have the next Olympics.
I'm a Fiji rugby fan myself. I will be rooting for them in next year Olympic Games.
Fiji won again in the Tokyo Olympics
and we have a double gold beating new zealand 27-12,😊🇫🇯🙌🏾tokyo 2021
Oops they won it again.
Sa yawa tuga na noda timi ni viti.aleluya ga vei Jiova Jaere.
Im from New Zealand, and I have never seen a team this humble! So proud of them, and they prayed at the end and praised God and it was heart warming
Caroline very well said..☺☺..respect from pacific brotherd...all blacks 15s are the legend in history .
Kiwi yank here, Just amazing and no ego~mania or show boating like American Foot ball , and the Prime Minister came and showed , Gusto by shakin' his fist at 1 player~ After finding out many US football games were "Fixed" Iam Back to support Oceana ~ My 2nd Home~ Tena Koutou katoa~ e hoa~ to those ~ friends~ Ka pai bula~Bula~
Caroline.......I'm crying!
Culturally, the players have shown great respect to kneel and 'obo' or clapping with cupped hands...it is traditional protocol when in the presence of chiefly individuals, in this case, a member of the British Monarchy. Ia sa malo vaka levu Viti na waqe!
Caroline... Same feeling here for your cricket team captain *Kane Williamson* and rest of team too...
What a fantastic, cool and calm team... I have ever seen...
Never sledges opposition, never shouts at own players, never fights with umpires, never gives up, the most respected and deserving WC captain *"Kane Williamson"*
Love from 🇮🇳 India
I will never forget this game for as long as I live. Every Fijian will remember the feeling the moment the ref blew the whistle for full time and we became olympic champions! The pride, joy and utter disbelief that we had won! We showed that you don't have to be a rich rugby nation to succeed but that hard work, dedication and self belief will overcome all odds. We as a nation needed this so much especially after the country was destroyed by cyclone Winston! Thank you to the team, the management and especially the mastermind Ben Ryan!!
Wesele Tokalau the moment you blew the refs whistle 😂😂😂

Me and my family cried when we saw Fiji won, we love our home country and our people forever
Even as a Brit I can only congratulate Fiji. They gave us a total masterclass.
❤absolutely CORRECT and true
AB Supporter here ... cheering Fiji onto to their first gold medal !!!
Even as a Brit I was happy to see Fiji win the gold medal
Greetings from Nigeria. I am a great admirer of Fiji Rugby 7s. The way they win with such grace and respect for their opponents. Their religious faith and the way they consistently dominate nations mightier than them in size and budget. If I get the opportunity to travel to a country I have never visited before, I would choose Fiji. They must be a truly unique people.
Thank - You.
Thank you. Please do try to visit.. after the pandemic lockdown, of course!❤✌
We have people like this everywhere you just don't know them
They teach us how to play a well fair-play and sportmanship. Deserve gold! May God bless you everytime.. Hugs from Indonesia! 👍🏻

I knew Fiji won gold in Rio but I never watched the game until now. Wow that was brutal. They were just ruthless. Well done to them, it was a really comprehensive victory.
The RESPECT the Fijian team has is incredible
When it comes to sevens Fiji is the best I wish i was a Fijian how I love this game
The way Fiji won was so well and beautifully done with such honor and respect for the game and I definitely can’t leave out how humble the players were after they won/ receiving their gold medals
The flair and finesse of Fijian sevens rugby, the great sportsmanship, the humility and respect for the Princess Royal, the days and weeks of celebrations back home in Fiji... in the end an unforgettable moment for many years to come... to win our first ever Olympic medal.. and that too in the form of a gold.. and in our nations most beloved and decorated sport.
Vinaka master...
Great game Fiji, PNG Support, All the way Melanesia.
Fiji Prime Minister's words to our boys just before the finals in Rio Olympics
(Translated from iTaukei Fijian language)
"We have lost before so if you lose today, you will not create any losing history...you have reached the final and if you lose, we will still honour you for bringing home our first Olympic Silver Medal.
But if you win, I tell you that your mothers at home will be proud and will recall the days when your mothers gave birth day to you.
They were awake when you were sick.
They did not sleep caring for you.
When you took the first step, they are overjoyed.
Do you want to bring that overjoy to your mothers again?
If you do, bring the gold medal and hang it around your mother.
After you have hung it around your mother, tell your mother that you run because she taught you how to walk and this gold medal is for her.
If you do not win, you would bring tears into her eyes.
Do you want to bring tears into the eyes of your mother in Fiji while you are in Rio?
Go .... and play, not for the nation, and, not for the government ,because I am with you here.
I am here to tell you to go and play for your mothers...."
The Boys played for their mothers and hammered Great Britain 43-7.
Tabusoro !- Never give up!
Tony Snow yeah the boys played for their mothers, while Frank used their mothers tax money to pay for his flight to Rio.

Congratulations Fiji! I shed tears of joy for you....and I'm a Kiwi AB supporter! Good to see respect for the Crown too.
Thanks mate, this means a great deal for Fiji and 7s rugby has grown so much. Before it's all about Fiji and New Zealand but we set the mark and the standard for other countries to meet.( we as in Fiji and New Zealand.)
Rugby is growing in the USA also believe it or not. They don't hit as hard as in football but the games are faster paced it's kind of a trade off.
It is the 6th fastest growing sport in the US.
+A Very Kind Guy yep, USA were very unlucky not to make the quarter finals. Only losing out to NZ on points difference. They nearly beat Fiji in pool play
Mark Whippy what place did your country come in?
Fiji’s performance is phenomenal; their humility is a great addition to the Olympic spirit, just heartwarming to watch!
never seen rugby played so well, beautiful
GB had nothing to be ashamed of, this was the same as getting to the basketball final and having to play the USA. Plus introducing 7’a into the Olympics proved to be a brilliant move as it’s been a smash hit.
well said .... m a fijian but m wid u on dat note
agree with everything u said except Fiji aren't the USA in rugby. Its like New Zealand just in sevens
@@bashickey8902 nz??? 😂😂😂
jarguar 8 New Zealand dominate world rugby. 7s is a growing sport and Fiji is dominating it too. They’re different games but i New Zealand is the powerhouse of 15s and are very good at 7s too while Fiji couldn’t compete with the all blacks
jarguar 8 Wouldn’t compete at 15s sorry**
For me, the best part of the olympics
true
the olympic games are made for this real dreams
Mine was the US ladies finishing 1st 2nd and 3rd in some track race.
And the men and women for US basketball winning by 30 points in the gold medal match.

still get teary eyed... so deserved and such Legends Fiji.
We all did... so deserving! Fiji well don!
I still teary now 4 years later..
80% of the worlds population have little knowledge about Fiji until After this very moment. Great performance from the fijian players.
I live in Fiji and in the middle of school we all stopped working and came into the hall to watch this
must've been a great moment for you i take it :)
Dude I didn't even go to school on that day just to see the finals but let me tell you it was worth it
We had exams that day but we stopped and watched or listened some how with no teachers around ... they were watching too in the lounge 😂
omg i think i went there !! What school?
Glad you won Fiji ! Bula Vanaka ! My NZ Allblacks 7's team didn't deserve to be a finalist. Bless you All and your great British coach Ben Ryan !
NZ 7s is a great team. They came back and won the Commonwealth Games and the Sevens World Cup..... There are so many NZ AB fans in Fiji and we will always respect our brothers from the south...
This is my favourite of this Rio 2016. In every way the true Olympic spirit.
Marvellous. Well done Fiji!
good for you FIJI
Congrats Fiji. As a Melanesian brother im so proud of u guys. Congrats. Well deserved
God bless Fiji, love from DRC CONGO in africa💪💪💪👏👏🙏🙏💖💖
Thank you Fiji! You made me love this game congratulations!🏉👍💙
Wonderful Fiji = Melanesian Nearby. Vanuatu 2018
Watching this again after Fiji won the Gold Medal again in the Tokyo Olympics 2021. It's really a delightful to watch our Boy's play. Such a proud Fijian I am tbh. They have proved that Fiji is the Greatest 7s Rugby team in the world❤ Congratulations Boy's for winning the gold Back to Back🥇 We all love you so much. Fiji all the wayyyy🇫🇯
Still getting teary watching this.. This was the day the whole nation came together!!... Thank You Lord!
And everyone else loved the PM..lol
Aren't you guys together, like all the time!? You folks live on islands, not on continental land masses!
Four years on 2020 and I'm still watching this.
Five years on 2021 and i am still watching this match still brings tears to my eyes 🇫🇯 I am so happy that fiji won the second gold medal
I remember my cousin calling me from her work place saying that about half her branch called in sick on this day. So to get them to come in, the boss told them that there won't be any work but a huge screen and snacks were provided in the conference room. Needless to say they all came in lol Fijians and their rugby man!
Hahahahaha good one
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I remembered this day when all my colleagues and all the Subjects Teachers we're rushing down to the Library just to see the Rio sevens Final...ohhh🤧🤧 it brought tears into our eyes as we saw the boys won the country's first ever Medal. Vinaka Boys.
It's the first time they played rugby in the Olympics and who was the favourites going in? Not the New Zealand All Blacks, or the South Africans. Not Australia, Britain, or the United States. It's an obscure island nation in the Pacific, impoverished and recently devastated by a hurricane, but one who hasn't lost their faith in God and hope. A nation with nothing but a strong desire and a strong heart. And they lived up to their billing with a dominant win.
*rugby 7s
Why is the US in the list.
@@Centre14 Being the biggest economic power, one would expect them to contend.
@@broadstreet21
nvm US is quite a strong in 7s (not 15).
congratulations from italy
I'm Brazilian and I cheered for Fiji🇧🇷🇫🇯
When the Flying Fijians are on their knees, it before Royalty, and a sign of humility and gratitude to the Princess, the people of Brazil, and Fijian rugby fans all over the world.
It not humility , its RESPECT
I went to Fiji in 2017 and their nation is incredibly proud of this team. They made a $7 bill to honor them too. When I exchanged my USD to Fijian dollars, I noticed the $7 bill and told the clerk that I remember watching their rugby team winning the nation's first ever gold medal. The clerk then handed me a $7 bill signed by one of their players. I kept it and still have it to this day! Bula Fiji, I can't wait to go back someday!
Can't wait to have you
I wanted to meet my family in Latoka and Suva and Nadi in 2020, let's hope I can travel this year (sorry if I spelt the places wrong)
🤣🤣🤣🤣
My uncle's from Fiji and he loves rugby

The Fiji rugby 7s Olympics journey is worthy of a movie 🎬 . Truly inspiring!!
Naka Viti!! Watching this is 2020! Love from PNG!!
Saw a talk today from Ben Ryan. Amazing stories. He did what he needed to do, and it was tough, but he recognised, I think, the amazing opportunity fate had thrown his way. Turn the greatest natural Rugby athletes this World has into the greatest Sevens team the World has ever seen. He, and they, managed it. Marvellous!
When Fiji is in the mood, they're simply unstoppable. Like Coach Ben Ryan once described it, you will be chasing shadows !
I was at work when this game was on. My supervisor, knowing this was my team, made me take a break to watch the game.
I'm an American through and through, but I enjoyed the Rugby Sevens tournaments...disappointed that the Americans didn't win a medal in the Sevens, but it was great competition!
I was screaming when Fiji won gold I am so proud of the boys and I'm proud to be a caring Fijian

When I feel abit down this makes me feel better
Fair play to Fiji. They’re one of the best teams to watch in 15’s rugby and it must mean, god knows how much, to these lads from a country with a population which is smaller than Birmingham’s, to win an Olympic gold medal.
I always come back to this game..after 3yrs, not only because of the way my fellow country men played but also for the respect shown towards the crown, all the best to the other teams on the next olympics
Just imagine...these guys, who come from humble beginnings, earning peanuts with the mediocre FRU Management hogging all the mula and still being able to rise to the occasion and own it. That takes heart and perseverance. Malo va levu Viti.
Absolutely it was an oceanic peoples sport!
Even with a combined team with 3 plus countries they could not beat FIJI
Fiji came to the Olympics as the number one rated sevens team in the world having won two IRB Sevens Series two years in a row. That same year they shocked the rugby world by giving a strong New Zealand Sevens team 44-0 in the IRB Series in Sydney.
Still 7 men against 7 men
Just thank the almighty God ❤
Thats the reason they are called the Flying Fijians

I was in the stands watching the 5th to 12th places matches before the semifinals and some of those guys showed up there before their semifinal match against Japan, so I had the opportunity to take a picture with them. It´s funny because we are not familiar with rugby and its players here in Brazil, so only a few people really paid attention to them, including myself, but they are like the superstars of their sport and became national heroes after this gold medal.
i watch it just to learn the game and its fascination to know that there is so much passion the athletes playing for their national country
I learned so much
+Eric O'Driscoll definitely a Southern Hemisphere sport. The top 3 best are from there.
you from ?
Rugby is generally a British Commonwealth sport, largely amongst those with strong British influence (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, NZ, Australia, South Africa, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga) but is certainly not confined to those countries. France, Argentina, Italy, Japan, Canada, Romania, Georgia, and a host of others have strong rugby traditions in the 15-a-side game. In 7's rugby, the likes of the U.S., Canada, Kenya and others are more than capable of tipping over the traditional rugby nations.
This was not a game, this was a massacre.
Congrats to Fiji, first for beating NZ then winning the gold very humbling to watch and fully deserved.
Well deserve win boys, quite a respect shown to the world n thanks for making us Fijians proud.....vinaka valevu

Ye ye!💪💪 Lookin forward to an Olympic title repeat in next games😁😁
Go Fiji Go!😁
I think Hong Kong is a pacific city
Fiji’s plan before this was to not eat sugar and to not go to the floor always off load , or basically Fiji touch where they get hit n offload, avoiding rucks and none can compete with their style of play
43 to 7 resounding oceania dominance.
Best day of my life 🇫🇯❤️

Guess what is the most important part of the Fiji Sevens Team's prayer, with all their hands together in the air before the game or any game? They recited Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." in Fijian. God bless. May the best team wins this year 2021! ☺❤💕💖
So proud of you guys ,congratulations
Yes my Fijian brother with pride and respect .... the Island way
It is Fijis customers when we receive something from a very highly respected chief or royal representative, we have to kneel and clap our hands in reverence and deep respect.
Humbled players. Fiji will always have a special place in my heart.
