If I ever make it big as an actor, remember Ryan Cook started here. I remember doing our own wee production of CATCF back in primary school. I was Willy Wonka. We did proper auditions, everyone else got a full audition except me, I had to leave early and only got to say one line (Welcome my friends, welcome to my chocolate factory!), but I seemed to really impress them with that one line. The looks on their faces as I delivered the line and I beat our everyone else for the part. 90% of the kids, boys and girls, were auditioning for WW, he was the coveted role. It was the most fun I've had in my life, and set me on the path I'm on today to one day be an actor. I love watching different productions to compare how we did it differently. This scene especially. In our version, smoke machines launched from both sides, and I stepped out as it cleared. Used a really old, ripped voice but made sure to project so no one missed a word. We decided to go a little more intense and for shock factor. At,
"Though it appears I've lost my pep!" my voice gradually grew until I shouted the last word and brought my cane down hard upon the floor. Then I grab onto a reporter's forearm, shaking, take the step and fall. A group of people surround me, take off my cloak and put on my hat, then the circle breaks apart revealing Willy Wonka. I can't sing so the song had to go a different route. We had everyone sing the song, but chose specific bits for me to call out. At one point everyone gets down on their knees surrounding me. I call out,
"It must be believed to be seen," and as I do it slowly point the cane upwards with everyone following, then for the final bit, from follow me, for I guarantee I'm doing it. I loved the last line though, I go from rapid fire shouting their names to a suave voice,
"Do come in," whip around and raise my cane in the air perfectly in sync with the background swap.

O Segredo É Crer Para Ver Lyrics
    [WILLY WONKA]
    Venham me ajudar
    Tenho medo de cair
    Só consigo andar
    Se o joelho permitir
    Dentro dos portões
    Perdi a força jovial
A minha vida está no fim
Mas eu li no Tao Te Ching
JID “Dance Now' Official Lyrics & Meaning | Verified
    Que a chave da jornada
    É o passo inicial
    Quem quer entrar num mundo
    Com doces de "A" a "Z"?
    Quem quer provar
    Surpresas no ar?
O segredo é crer para ver
    Quem quer viver um sonho
    No meu atelier?
    A explicação
    Da minha visão
O segredo é crer para ver
    Não há nenhum mistério
    Feitiços ou poções
Eu só construímos mеu impérios próprios Que seguem
    os meus próprios
    ajustes Quеm quer provar delícias
    Num templo de prazer?
    Ao seu redor
    O que há de melhor
O segredo é crer para ver
    Quem quer entrar na dança
    Fazer fondu ou frappé?
No meu salão, tudo é só perfeição
O segredo é crer para ver
    quem quer saber o enigma
    O como eo porquê?

Mora atrás ver fazer o melhor

    • @thomaskilroy4573
      @thomaskilroy4573 Год назад +1

@@hierrikmedan6934 Even as good as Borle’s voice is, it still doesn’t particularly scream ‘Wonka’, nothing about the Broadway version does. The four naughty kids being played by adults was a strange choice on the whole and re-using songs from the 1971 version just serves to reiterate that it’s a passionless adaptation that is afraid to stand on its own two feet. Especially since all the American Wonka’s, not just Borle, seemed to be trying way too hard to emulate Wilder. The West End version was firmly its own thing, aside from Pure Imagination being the finale, which is literally the ONLY thing they took from the 70s movie. Douglas Hodge’s Wonka IS the Wonka from the books. Eccentric, twisted, childlike, Monty Pythonesque and carrying a David Bowie-like ageing 70s glam rockstar vibe. You could tell that this was nothing like the Wilder or Depp version. It was firmly its own thing and it was glorious.

    • @hierrikmedan6934
      @hierrikmedan6934 Год назад

@@thomaskilroy4573 i agree with some of that. With Borle i just view them as covers honestly. I don't think the re-use of songs is what makes it passionless, as it also does way more with the songs and uses the 1971 parts of the kids' songs as more of a callback and doesn't reuse the entire thing, and Candyman, Pure Imagination and Golden Ticket are popular for a reason and I see the point in using them as Wonka and Charlie's songs. There are other things I think DO make it passionless as an adaptation but if i listed them all here I think you'd get bored lol. The short version of my opinion on the Broadway version is that I love some things they did to modernize the adaptation from a purely story perspective, but the execution of almost all of it did not work nearly as well as it did in the WE, the Broadway stamp just makes it sound more fancy lol

Saw the show on Broadway with Christian Borle. I am a huge fan of his work, particularly in Something Rotten and Falsettos. By the way, Mrs. Gloop on Broadway and on the National Tour was played by my stepdaughter Kathy Fitzgerald. She has had a fantastic career on Broadway and off (she was especially fun in Wicked as Madame Morrible on Broadway and in the National Tour and when she originated the part of Roz, the office snitch in 9 to 5. She is considered to be one of the finest character actors on stage. She played ten different characters every night in The Producers on Broadway through the entire six year run).
