Michael Robles: Aristotle's critique of the sophists largely centered on their tendency to only share their teachings with the ruling class, for money and prestige. In that sense Eisenstein is much more a philosopher, as he shares his works freely, in keeping with the spirit of gift economies.
Claiming deception without argument is just an empty ad hominem attack dressed in a fancy word.

Such a relief to find someone whose message doesn't lay the blame at someone elses door. No baddies, no conspiracies, just a civilisation out of control and on the rocky road to ruin. We can save the day, but it will take many people like this. I am becoming one. Are you?

Hey Charles, was just revisiting your magnificent manifesto after signing up for a clinical music certification with Harps for Healing today. Your short film moved me so much once again; felt the need to say "thank you, Charles....keep going!!" and also to send it to all of the men in my life;...which now includes my 14 years old son. I am so very grateful for so many things...thank you for helping the world understand and believe in gratitude.

I would like to spread your message to my family and friends and colleagues and people in Vienna. like becoming an ambassador of interbeing in Austria. this idea came to me yesterday. however, I never spoke in public about my believes. i am scared to talk in front of an audience. but i will find a way to spread your message - which i know so deeply is true!
i would love to make all people i know read your book which i read in german at the moment. I am love and i can contribute in acts of love! you give me hope :) a beautiful world as my heart knows of is possible!

I could not stomach the money economics class I took to fulfill a requirement. After watching this excellent film I know what I was longing for was to study a type of economy that made more compassionate sense for all -- the Gift Economy in which one gains status by giving away excess to those in need. That is an economy based on the truth of what it means to be human. The money economy is an illusion based on a lie told by those it most serves.

I don't think one gaining status by giving is helpful. I especially like UBUNTU. Michael Tellinger created a system whereby we all get off the grid and simply contribute our effort to the whole. It takes about 3 hours in a system with 5000 people. The rest of the time is spent on creative endeavors, not work.

THANK YOU CHARLES, & YOUR COMMUNICATION COLLABORATORS ... for openly sharing the gifts of your insights & for your humilfity. It's refreshingly inspiring to beleive that human healing, clear thinking & our conscious actions can draw on ancient experiences of human & non-human communities.
This is also similar to epi-genetics ideas of creating a healing space, by acknowledging our inter-connectedness within our ecosystems & social systems, including by actively demonstrating our gratitude attitude ... for the many healthy aspects of functional communities, social connections, & ecosystem services that have too often been relied upon in enhancing our lives, too often without actively seeking to maintain & enhance the vitality of these healthy living beings & systems.

4/2/20 - how prophetic this was to watch it today. "Bigger and bigger disasters will hit until we wake up" -or something like that. Yes, that is true. We are in the birth canal not by choice by many of us - but because Mama decided She was done waiting on us to realize our needed experiment of separation was over. time to be birthed into a new world, a new economy a new way. What was just one month ago is collectively ol' school today. The way in which the world understood health, money, community - done. Now we are each being asked to figure out how to evolve into the new. Whether we are ready or not. Thanks for getting the doorway open for us Charles!

I appreciate your optimism and POSITIVE message. Something America has become so cynical about as of late. Geo Political Landscaping should be faced head on like Buckminster Fuller said. "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete." Let the Golden Age commence. Join in or sit aside and wait. The current "status quo" is a debt based model that creates more conflict with its divide and conquer consciousness. Is that what you all really want?

+Stunami Come over and join in with the 'collaborative economy', it is really giving us the fun and satisfaction in our lives that Eisentein is talking about :-) For example we share 2 parts of cooprative windturbines, our car, our vegetables garden, books and our wifi-hotspor :-) Take a look at: www.sharenl.nl/#sharenl, mywheels.nl/, www.windcentrale.nl/, www.peerby.com/nl/

+Stunami I agree with fuller. From Ben Hur (I know it was just a movie, but): "How do you fight an idea? With a better idea." Capitalism in the sense of competition has its advantages--often better products that can benefit many. But Socialistic modifications (medicare, social security, minimum wage, etc) allow us to help others in need. These are different mindsets with different & predictable results. Small societies have shown us how to live with a "we" mindset rather than an "I vs you" mindset. I think we are too big a society to change as a whole. But groups of us might be successful with a different economic system.

    • @rosiemc719
      @rosiemc719 7 лет назад +2

EVERYONE has needs. part of the problem is assuming that those who have less materially are more "needy" than those who have more. i have known homeless people who would faster give me the shirt off their back, than a church in all its supposed "benevolence" would give me a pair of socks. in this case, who is needier, me, the homeless guy, or the church who cannot loosen its grip on a material item it has no use for? some socialist modifications are designed with the understanding that we are all workers among workers, that we all contribute to the greater good. and yet, better products and services should be inherently advantageous. value systems should probably be reconfigured so people can understand what the objective reality is.

In a few years I'll be in my mid 20's and I have one thing to say to people like Charles: You don't know. You don't know what the earth can sustain. You don't know how big is too big. And you certainly don't know what is best for man kind, if that is one of your points. The best thing about being alive is that we can always change our ways and find new ways of doing things. There is no correct answer or direction to go in, only choices and consequences.

    This is the right direction.
The understanding of self-preservation (sociopathy, manipulation, ruthlessness)
The understanding of how the current monetary system removes humanity
The understanding of how to transition using gift economics
The understanding of how we may apply technology to meet social needs
Sacred Economics = transition towards Resource Based Economy

I have asked myself why do I spend money shopping or eating out to be entertained? I understand now the connection between buying things compulsively and being disconnected from the earth. It's true the earth is everyone's. Some get power to take it away and sell it back to us. We buy back our own planet from them!

The gratitude and recognition of the nature's gifts are paramount to the economic theory he presents. To call them silly or pointless is missing the point of "sacred economics" entirely, while disrespecting it simultaneously. Its more than economic theory, its a worldview and philosophy.
Who is to say that the sun, moon and earth were not designed for us, or any other creation for that matter? sure we're not the centre of the universe, but gratitude for things we depend on is key.

3:00 “Scarcity is built into the money system. On the most obvious level it’s because of the way money is created as interest bearing debt. So anytime a bank lends money into existence or the Federal Reserve creates money the money comes along with a corresponding amount of debt. And the debt, because it has interest on it, is always greater than the amount of money. So it essentially throws people into competition with each other for never enough money.
Growth is another thing that’s built into our money system. If you’re a bank you’re going to lend it to the person who’s going to create new goods and services so they can profit and they can pay it back. You’re not going to lend to somebody who’s not going to create goods and services. So money goes toward those who’ll create even more of it. But basically economic growth means that you have to find something that was once nature and make it into a good, or was once a gift relationship and make it into a service. You have to find something that people once got for free, or did for themselves or each other and take it away and sell it back to them somehow.
By turning things into commodities we get cut off from nature in the same ways we get cut off from community. We look at nature with eyes that it’s just a bunch of stuff. And that leaves us very lonely, and leaves us with many basic human needs that go unmet. And if you have money you might try to fill this hunger through purchasing, or buying things, or accumulating money itself.
And of course now we’re nearing the end of growth. The planet can’t sustain much more growth. And that’s why the crisis we have today won’t away.”
~Charles Eisenstein, author of “Sacred Economics”

This video could be so useful to share right now! Consider the "we vs. them" connotations surfacing in all of the news at this time!

I want this gift community with all living things too. Is there any viewers who wants to start a community like this? I feel like no one I know will leave this greed system

Thanks, Charles for brilliant diagnosis and prognosis. It's time for a valid paradigm: cause if we don't watch out, this train is going to end up where it's headed

This is a brilliant short-film. I will spread these words within the sphere of my connected self.
Sometimes your wishes are fulfilled before you even speak them out: I planned on making german subtitles for it, but now i (having a capitalized "I" in english grammar is a strong symbol as well!) realise that this has been done already. Greeeaaat! =)

I find that if I maximize my growth potential for change by lowering my vibration I can, in that way, center myself by anchoring to the earth in a way that allows for communal enhancement and increased openness to those around me.

you are the first person to say things I have been thinking over the last few years. there is an old teaching the love of money is the root of all evil. this is key knowledge. I encourage you to keep moving forward and continue your inspired meditations it takes to have these thoughts put in words. words are spiritual. I would love to meet you and talk in person sometime. it is hard to find people who will talk about these things. I think it is because most people love money.

Civilization is NOT a mistake. We are goodness, love and light and we are all one. Those entities that have taken control of humanity are what is causing all of our strife, not us. We will begin to heal once we all remember who we are. We are one. We are connected. We are infinite.

this approach could save our legacy and enable us to realize our connections to our lineage, all of which is sacred.

The very basic and fundamental rule in economics is that we have unlimited wants and limited resources, and these resources are scarce. As a society we need to realise that economic growth is not the way, but economic stability is.

It is so great to find people who think too... Great video and I truly hope that we, humans, can start seeing this obvious reality soon... Should be obvious, I mean...

So, for all interested, I suggest reading Structure of World History by Kojin Karatani. In it, Mr. Karatani examines world history through the lense of modes of exchange between communities/individuals. Mode of exchange A is the gift exchange, B is essentially the state, C is capitalism and D is a return of mode of exchange A but at a higher level. It's a good read, if a bit dry at times...
Btw I do not want a fully gift based economy and/or society... Gift exchange based societies weren't all peaches and roses. They were in constant warfare with their neighbouring communities (unless an exchange was established) and had no authority to stop things like vendettas (vendettas=type of a gift exchange).

My favorite websites I visit are not ad supported and rely on donations to continue providing unbiased information. I always contribute if they offer me value. As far as the proprietary PC & Mac platforms, they became so large thru anti-competitive distribution that crowded out the smaller players.Open source alternatives like Linux, are constantly innovating without corporate incentives. The open source farming and housing are giving away designs and support free just for the karma incentive.

The short video covers most of the basics in clear terms. However, do we forget that people had it right for thousands of years. It is not a matter of people learning a new way but re-learning an old way. Just ask the indigenous peoples (the remnants that are left)...a gift economy, community, co-operation, working with nature, sharing and all the rest.

To see life as a gift has nothing to do with belief or God. Gratitude is a very pleasant emotion, like joy or laughter, that we can actively cultivate in our lives like any other. Gratitude in particular is very good at facilitating a sense of belonging and community.
And the emotions we choose to cultivate--especially gratitude--have a direct impact on our ability to express our gifts to the world, our outlook on life, and even our ability to succeed at our endeavors. Gratitude is inspiring!
