Thanks for this video. I have a 5D MKII and got an "CF CARD ERROR" saying the card needs to be formated with every card I used. No pins where bent. Took my camera apart and discoverd had to bent the holders that push the CF card back up. By bending these holders I allowed the card to go lower into the cf bay and connects better to the pins, my problem was fixed. Hope this helps anyone who is having same card errors but no bent pins.
for the past 10 years I have not bent a pin, but good video regardless. Good to know I can replace that screen cover :-) And I hope I never need the other :-)
Looking for repair video on the microswitches for the 5D classic. My 5D won't turn on, even after trying the simple videos of replacing CF card, battery, etc. Is there a way to disable the micro-switches so the camera will turn on? This would be the easiest way to get it functioning without spending $$. HELP!
Do you happen to have a video on the 5D classic shutter? I am a computer science major and I think $349 dollars from Canon is a little much. Any ideas on making it a little more affordable?
I pieced together all the info I could find from various websites plus I did my own visual observation. Sometimes you can find leaked repair manuals online, but it is rare.
Your video is well explained but I have a Canon 7D. I have already ordered a new CD card reader. Do you think the procedure is the same or different ? I am afraid to start doiing it and destroy one of the rubbon cable that I have not noticed. Thank you in advance. (so far, I have changed my iphone 5 screen, which was quite an adventure with all the tine parts and the rubbon cables) not sure if this will be more complicated).
+Patricia Moreau I would recommend getting a little angled mirror like they use at the Dentist's office. It will allow you to look under boards before pulling on them. As for the 7D, I also have a 7D but I am unfamiliar with the internals. Luckily, the 7D is far more popular a camera than the 5D line, probably due to cost. As such, there are lots of videos describing this process. Here is one where you can start. Hope it all goes well for you! ruclips.net/video/AVgxK5sS98s/видео.html
Thank you Abraxsis. I have already watch your link and left a message there. It is not well explained and most of it goes on fast motion. If you have other links ? I did not find any. I will keep searching...
Is the metal "housing" on the CF pin assembly removable? For $40 I can get a just the pin/ribbon portion of it... for $85+ you get the entire assembly. Just wondering if I can spend $40 and reuse my old metal housing. Thanks
Honestly, I don't remember. It has been 5 years since I repaired this camera. I will say that replacing the whole part, even if you get a used part, will provide a durable repair. In fact, this same 5D has been on loan to a friend who uses it for shooting photos of homes he is selling.
@very1silent maybe listen the commentary closer next time? I plainly state I am wearing an anti static ground on my leg that runs to an electrical ground. Also modern electronics aren't nearly as susceptible to ED damage as older ones. But it is good to always be careful.
Yeah, same here. I got my 5D for free from a friend because it didn't work. After an inspection I found the pin bent, I bent it back into place and the camera worked. After that, I just ordered the part I needed. Been using the 5D for about 2.5 years now.
I figured that much. It seems pretty secure in there despite being wobbly. I'm not sure its worth the trouble and repairs on this camera would probably exceed what I want to pay for it.

Thank you for an excellent video. The information about the hidden screws under the grip material was worth the price of admission alone.
Thank you for this video. Just replaced the card reader on my sons 5D and the process was very straight forward.
Just did the repair. Thanks a ton for the video. It was very helpful and it gave me the confidence to try it myself.
No problem, glad it helped.

Great video. Are there repair manuals out there that are any good for DSLR's? how did you learn how to do this.
Thanks.

OK thanks, I'm going to take mine apart and see before ordering.
Does this differ a great deal from the 5D2, or will the steps be roughly the same?
Did you do this?

wish I saw this before spending 285 for CF replacement with Canon!

I have a wobbly camera lug part CB3-1721. Do you have any suggestion for how to remove the top cover? I want to make as minimal effort as possible.
+thepiecesfit Once you move past the rear shell the camera becomes much more difficult to disassemble and would not recommend it if you are a novice.

Do you know how to remove the CF card door?
sugarcult do it alone! nice!
@very1silent if nothing else, also as stated in the video, at east touch something metal before beginning to work.
