Gen X er here, I have come to tell you young'uns how to completely avoid the drastic loss of male looks when aging and reaching middle-age. The one simple trick is not to be good looking, like from the offset. I vouch for this personally. You're welcome.
I get that this is a joke but going from bad to worse is still a decline. There are generally things a person can do to improve himself and his looks, at any age. Looks are downstream from health which is downstream from lifestyle. Eg. Leo experienced twink-death from partying too hard.
For me personally, what made me really like Timothée (aside from his acting which emotionally connects with me in a way no actor has), is probably his maturity. Specifically when it came to him promoting beautiful boy, his perspective and interpretation of the story showed me how much he cares about the art but also the message his acting carries. He not only can act but he understands what he is trying to get across before acting, which makes his emotional connection with audiences so strong. That's why everyone cried at the cmbyn end scene.
Your voice is so soothing, so relaxing, especially when you talk low and slow. It's like a whisper inside the ear. If... you would make an ASMR video... wow, I would watch it every day.
This was great. 🙌 Would've loved you to go even further with the Hugh Grant analysis because he was a national obsession for Britain back in the 90s, massive womaniser because he could have any woman he wanted. Its been really interesting to see him go through all the controversial fall from grace with the hooker scandal, a very public divorce, fade from the spotlight and then return in a new role as the affable older man. There seems to be a period for these heartthrob types in middle age where they are sort of lost, no longer having their previous cultural cache and trying to find their place. The media love to eviscerate them for any weight gain, hair loss etc but also mock them for any attempts to stay young eg hair plugs. Good on Hugh for embracing his new position in society. But. The media certainly goes a lot easier on ageing men than women and they have a hell of a lot more opportunities to continue working once they're no longer at the peak of their youth.
i really like this analysis, i appreciate that you briefly but thoughtfully outline this issue which (male) actors face whilst acknowledging that, simultaneously, women in the industry face much more trouble
i loved hugh grant when i was younger. i was a 90s kid so all i knew was that he was a charming rom-com star. i had no concept of his controveries. now as an adult, i have such complicated feelings because on one hand, i held him in such high regard when i was younger but now it's like i just feel skeeved out by him.
As a young millennial/ zillennial such as Timotheé I’ve never been into millennial rom com actors or obsessed with their work the way I am with his. Honestly Timotheé, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, are representing my generation of actors quite well in Dune. Hopefully his fast success doesn’t fizzle out just as quick tho!
We need more younger Gen Z actors that were born post year 2000 older gen z has there A listers we need like 19 to 24 year old A Listers to represent the younger side of Gen z
As a young woman, the way the media portrays him I feel like ruins so much of his potential for his more imperfect, actually relatable side to be represented as well as his stereotypically attractive side, which for me makes him look shallow and not that attractive, I mean duh he looks good but the overromanticization of him ruins the representation of who he really is as a person which I'd rather see and connect to, than this perfect image
someone told me today that i remind them of timothée and now I’m wondering if that was their subtle way of saying that i look like a Victorian twink.. I’ve decided to take it as a compliment xx
I've always wondered how good movies could be if actors were chosen due to talent at acting rather than, good looks and acting. I'm not saying they cannot go together Brad Pitt is a great example. But for many others you see someone who is from decent, to okay or down right terrible but their looks get them a role.
For the most part, I feel like that’s already how it works. If you’ve ever stumbled on a Hallmark Movie, you understand the true depths of coasting on good looks.
I’ve recently learn that people will not watch or get into a movie/tv series if there’s not an attractive actor for them to gush over. I personally like it when actors actually look like normal people instead of them being ridiculously attractive but that’s not the case for most people. Sadly, people give too much importance to physical appearance than talent and I don’t think that’s gonna change anytime soon.
@@the-berries-and-cream-dude I think it's a combination, I think people do watch specific things for specific attractive people, however I think that is mainly influenced by the fact they are told they are meant to do that. Not to mention agents and TV or movies looking for the new celebrity focusing on that rather than acting skill.
I’m not into social media enough to be too close to the craze, but I know it exists. I genuinely enjoy him as an actor and I think he’s handsome in an unusual way. I wish aging were treated better in general. I’m just happy to see some actors still in the game. I look forward to seeing how his roles develop.
This is gonna be badly explained but the way Tim is being styled is trying to replicate the success that came from Harry Styles own stylists choices. Getting that same hype for Tim by dressing him in that same qwerky, partially sexuality bending is an aim at hyping the teenage fans he has
Insert here clever opinion about the intersection of commoditization of male sexuality for profit and the profiting off of women/girls attraction towards these men and the need of exploring their own sexuality from a safe distance - the industry is scary
this is probably the best video i have ever watched on youtube ever. i usually use youtube signed out, but i had to sign in to comment this. THIS IS FREAKING AMAZING 👏👏👏 GREAT WORK, MAN. i am definitely affected by the “chalamet effect” as i literally have my whole phone themed with widgets of timothée! 😳 but i am shamelessly obsessed with him and this video provided some great insight 💀
He’s a good looking young guy that knows how to act pretty well. Essay over. It’s not like he’s saved the earth, was able to stop the Israeli war. Nope he’s just a dude. I hope one day humanity can stop putting normal people on pedestals.
Rather him than Taylor Swift. I understand if you're American she's shoved down ya throat but she starting to be spread over this side of the pond to, just useless, endless articles.
i watched 3 movies that were on my watch-list yesterday and without knowing beforehand, they all three had timothée in them. by the third movie i was like "AGAIN??"
First time on your channel and you got me hooked on this video from start to finish... usually, I check out when it comes to certain video essays but you kept it entertaining! I love Timothee Chalamet, but not the way most people love him where the obsession is unreal. I think the fact that he's half French and can relatively speak the language definitely adds to his appeal, plus the fact that he also dates other nepo babies adds intrigue to his personal life. (Btw, the gorilla in Japan story is bananas!)
So sad seeing Hugh Grant talking about his actor range like that. And that public appreciates only young/ adolescent actors and singers. Cause old ppl r sexy too. Like Meryl Streep and Sher.
Hugh Grant had exactly two characters he was capable of playing That’s what limits your roles and age as a man He sucks and when he aged out of ‘bumbling man u like cuz he’s just chaHHMING’ then he has no more roles Simple math Men who can do other things or who have better aging luck continue with roles. Women have to fight to get cast past 28 anyway so like boo hoo
He really is one of the most beautiful humans on the planet, him and Harry Styles. The next Jimmy Dean and Marlon Brando, like otherworldly pretty and near perfect.
That’s a little much to say Harry styles and him are the next Marlon Brando and James dean if anything I don’t think this is a good comparison but I see more Marlon Brando in Austin Butler than Timothee chalamet or Harry styles
I didn't know that Timothee C. was Saltburn's first choice, I loved the movie but I have a problem with Jacob Elordi and that is that I can't stop relating him to his role as Nate in Euphoria, that speaks well of him as an actor, but I would have preferred Timothee in Saltburn
28 is the ideal age of a man. Twink style appeals to boths young people and older people, both male and female ....he hits lots of demographics of thirst. He's a lovely boy who plenty of people want to
From what I understand, and it don't limit only to film industry but music industry also. People usually don't really pay attention to someone or something unless it's heavily promoted. Most basic example is "popular" songs. They are not popular because of their quality, but because they are heavily promoted everywhere and shoved into people's ears. Some goes with celebrities, one become extremely popular, because someone in charge decided to promote them heavily. And people are kind of like under the charm, that this person is special, better looking, smarter etc. than everyone. People are easily deceived into thinking exactly what those who promote celebrities, want them to think. And with this Timothy guy it's exactly the same. I saw Interstellar in theaters when it came out, and that Timothy guy was the most bland(like in normal, not outstanding) looking teenager boy, like literally everyone else could play that part and you wouldn't notice. And no one was calling him pretty or the most handsome man back then. Many people were even surprised to learn that he starred in Interstellar, especially those who watched the movie. Because he wasn't famous aka "heavily promoted" back then. You can compare him in Interstellar and now, he really doesn't look that much different. But people are tricked into thinking he is handsomer and prettier, because someone decided to make him famous. For me personally(but I'm just no one on the internet, obviously) he is just plain looking guy, like every other guy you would see on the street or in the mall. Maybe some people will learn, that their opinions are heavily influenced by media, by what they see or hear. And that for the most part, they are tricked into thinking, what others want them to think.
He became popular by being himself, wearing clothes that other actors would not dare wear, taking movie roles that other young actors didn’t pay attention to, being in movies not carried/produced by the usual moneyed Hollywood. Being intelligent himself - listen to him in his interviews. His answers are not the usual, run-of-the-mill kind of; listen to his speeches. Did the likes of DiCaprio, Pitt, Depp ever deliver speeches WITH SUBSTANCE the way Timothée Chalamet did? NO or should I say NEVER!
Interstellar: tiny role (most of it was cut), 2014, he was nobody, and looked like a child because he was. Didn’t “star” in Interstellar. Not hyped or promoted until he delivered a spectacular, Oscar nominated performance in CMBYN. I don’t really see your point about Interstellar…
Tbh he looks better bc of his hair, ppl underestimate how much hair can do for someone’s appearance. Two I see what you are saying and to an extent I agree but I counter that there has been a lot of people and things to at are heavily promoted and they either work for like five seconds and then disappear or they never actually connect with people. Like yes promotion matters but if it’s not what the people subconsciously want then it’s not gonna work. And that’s when people notice that they are being marketed too. It’s “their are trying to make so so happen” There are massive movies that have been heavily promoted and flopped at the box office. There are a lot of actors and singers who are pushed so hard by the machine and they never quite make it. Songs that are pushed by radio and no one likes it lol. Heavy promotion is just to get the thing or person noticed but for them or the thing to have staying power it does kinda rely on a combination of looks, charisma, and either high quality work or low quality work but high entertainment value. its not enough to be promoted, you have to offer value of some kind So timothee has been successful bc yes he was heavily promoted but he does offer value, his looks which have been refined subtly over the years he dresses better his hair is better that 100% makes a difference in most people. You underestimate the power of good styling. (Also I do think he is someone who has the type of face that you have to grow into, like as a teen you probably look regular or even “ugly” but as you get older the features look less awkward). He has the talent, I know some ppl hate on his acting but he is good. I think he’s had good performances in dune pt 2, the king, cmbyn and beautiful boy. And he has a personality/charisma that appeals to a demographic of people (the young female demographic). He’s awkward but in a cute way, he seemingly gets along with a lot of people. And his “digital footprint” is charming. I think you underestimate a lot of what makes a person “popular”. Think about people who were well known and popular at school or at your job. They don’t need to be promoted by someone to be known. They just are and it’s the same concept as what I stated earlier, a combo of looks, personality/charisma, and in the case of work or sometimes school, they have some sort of value (being smart, a hard worker, an entertaining/funny person, a genuinely kind person, a talented person etc.) it’s the same concept but on a larger scale. And with lots of money in the mix. You just cannot take anyone and make them famous, you can however take someone who you could see one of these things mentioned and mold them and perfect them on what they lack and make them famous. And that’s what Timothee was.
your channel fascinates me and i don't know if it's you daring to be so much smarter and wiser than me being roughly 10 years younger but it's one of my favorite channels currently thanks for the quality person with a guiri version of my name that i respect
I have watched a number of movies with him in and at no point have I ever gone wow that's some amazing acting or he stands above everyone else as such an amazing actor, and he steals the scene. I don't know if it shows the poor standard of hollywood acting or the fact he's used for advertising so producers need to push the idea he is amazing for something other than looks.
i was truly impressed with him in cmbyn, and after i was trying to find the same level of acting and mm passion for the craft, should i say, in all of his other movies, but couldn’t.
Oh dear. I’m a 59 year old woman who is suffering from the Timothée Chalamet effect after watching Wonka four times during December/January, and playing the Wonka soundtrack on repeat (much like your wife) to the point that I know every word. I’d seen him in other films and thought he was good but Wonka did the ‘whimsy’ thing to me just as you describe. Then came talking my husband into watching Dune on Netflix so that we could go to Dune Part 2. I don’t even know why I’m suddenly obsessed so I’m glad you’re explaining it to me! 😂 😂
Just seen this video pop up from nowhere. Well not nowhere. Ive seen this after going down a TC rabbit hole. Your very funny and articulate. Thank you for helping me get out of the hole.
I know it’s shallow but I actually get pretty anxious about ageing. I wish I could have a clone of myself that would always stay at my peak and I could dress her up and take photos and stuff whenever I get an idea😅
Society at large views you as nothing more than something to fuck and consume items and services that cost money For the love of god leverage any youth or beauty you have, but letting your identity be connected to any part of it is completely insane. Your life is supposed to be your life, at least try to fight for it. Live for yourself.
When the way people think of you is determined in large part due to how you look, it's not that shallow. Everyone wants to be thought of positively and treated well. If you don't look a certain way you can be overlooked for jobs, be thought of as less than human even, if you are perceived as ugly or have a facial deformity. People are generally treated better when they fit the common beauty standard.
But that “son of Chef” thing although dumb is kinda valid his dad was like the guy behind diners drive thrus and dives type deal! So a celebrity chef really!
They claim that women are lying about what we like, and that we are simply collecting "beta males" we actually think are ugly in order to trap those men into marriage. Then we supposedly cheat on those men with the "alpha chads" we think are actually attractive, and trick the "ugly" "betas" we've trapped into raising these chads' children. In other words, they are delusional and double down on their worldview despite seeing it being proven false all the time.
i saw a review of Dune which called it a risky move picking a relatively unknown actor as the lead compared with megastar Oscar Issac and i was like what
They did that for years on The King too (lol) the director was like i am discovering him this nobody who is not Robert Pattison and i was like poor Timmy.
Rainy day in new York is good, dune is great, the one where he's a drug addict and Steve carrel is his dad is stunning. He's good, and I'm a straight male, he's not my fave but he bloody good. Oh and definitely this IS or very close to my fave vid, I'm only halfway. Great work. Would love a pint or a Wood woo with ya ha 😅
it’s true; it is my predetermined eternal method of punishment to be forever shackled by the wrist to these white men of the month. i, a decade-long fangirl, for better or for worse, am the sole reason for timothee’s gargantuan success.

I don't care one way or another about him, outside of every single computer-generated image of him hanging out with Ms. Piggy, wearing even more absurd things than he really does, or whatever else the robot overlords can picture him doing. I love it and cannot get enough.

Y Leo nunca me transmitió nada, ni siquiera en Titanic.

He not only can act but he understands what he is trying to get across before acting, which makes his emotional connection with audiences so strong. That's why everyone cried at the cmbyn end scene.
I think you should definitely keep the Timothee shrine up
Your voice is so soothing, so relaxing, especially when you talk low and slow. It's like a whisper inside the ear. If... you would make an ASMR video... wow, I would watch it every day.
the gorilla ramble made me laugh so much, thank you so much. honestly made my day with the comparison of timothee and women yearning over a gorilla
Wow, this is a great analysis!
Leo is def in that lost middle age phase!
i really like this analysis, i appreciate that you briefly but thoughtfully outline this issue which (male) actors face whilst acknowledging that, simultaneously, women in the industry face much more trouble
@osemanverseenthusiast @samgirls aww thanks you guys! ^_^ maybe I should start the media analysis channel I've been thinking of doing for years :-D
i loved hugh grant when i was younger. i was a 90s kid so all i knew was that he was a charming rom-com star. i had no concept of his controveries. now as an adult, i have such complicated feelings because on one hand, i held him in such high regard when i was younger but now it's like i just feel skeeved out by him.
the casual britney broski clip had me cackling
I feel like "It's called YEARNING" will have many applications in conversation for me going forward 😭
They seems so dull compared to Keanu, Winoya, Martha, River etc
This reminds me of the doc ”The most beautiful boy in the world”. Such a sad story😢
i knew i would find this comment
yesss i thought of this ❤🩹
Even Bjorn's hair timothee is trying to copy
As a young woman, the way the media portrays him I feel like ruins so much of his potential for his more imperfect, actually relatable side to be represented as well as his stereotypically attractive side, which for me makes him look shallow and not that attractive, I mean duh he looks good but the overromanticization of him ruins the representation of who he really is as a person which I'd rather see and connect to, than this perfect image
someone told me today that i remind them of timothée and now I’m wondering if that was their subtle way of saying that i look like a Victorian twink.. I’ve decided to take it as a compliment xx
and from the absence of a profile pic I deduct that you haven't been taking advantage of your good-looks... improve.
I've been told the same and that I look like an victorian orphan or a Tim burton character and now I can take it like a top tier compliment
I always tell people he has “skater boy” energy and somehow that pretty much sums it up
i just wanna say, your hair is amazing dude
agreed
agreed
agreed 😭
His bone structure is insane
I'm loving the addition of the stick
The part about the sex symbol gorilla had me crying 😂
I’m not into social media enough to be too close to the craze, but I know it exists. I genuinely enjoy him as an actor and I think he’s handsome in an unusual way.
I wish aging were treated better in general. I’m just happy to see some actors still in the game. I look forward to seeing how his roles develop.
This is gonna be badly explained but the way Tim is being styled is trying to replicate the success that came from Harry Styles own stylists choices. Getting that same hype for Tim by dressing him in that same qwerky, partially sexuality bending is an aim at hyping the teenage fans he has
Untrue his fans matured with his age. See his premiers not teenagers:)
Well Harry has Styles in his actual name so I say he already had a head start there.
My thoughts exactly!
I hope one day humanity can stop putting normal people on pedestals.
its just a joke
Watching Wonka finally broke Timothee's spell over me
Wonka was horrible
Dune 2
He was terrible in Wonka
Timothy is in too much stuff I want a timothy time out.
Time-outée Chalamet
literally just in one movie last year, and one this year lol
Rather him than Taylor Swift. I understand if you're American she's shoved down ya throat but she starting to be spread over this side of the pond to, just useless, endless articles.
Love this comment:) its really catchy.
i watched 3 movies that were on my watch-list yesterday and without knowing beforehand, they all three had timothée in them. by the third movie i was like "AGAIN??"
Good stuff. Zendaya is his female equivalent, would love to see her covered in a similar video.
Jenna Ortega as well
@@fernandomaron87no she’s a zoomer her equivalent is Jacob Elordi

So sad seeing Hugh Grant talking about his actor range like that. And that public appreciates only young/ adolescent actors and singers. Cause old ppl r sexy too. Like Meryl Streep and Sher.
Hugh Grant had exactly two characters he was capable of playing
That’s what limits your roles and age as a man
He sucks and when he aged out of ‘bumbling man u like cuz he’s just chaHHMING’ then he has no more roles
Simple math
Men who can do other things or who have better aging luck continue with roles.
Women have to fight to get cast past 28 anyway so like boo hoo
People are fawning over older guys too now like Pedro Pascal and Oscar Isaac!
@wowzersfyiHenry Cavill is "old"? Lmaoooo
@wowzersfyi you're obviously a zoomer if you think 42 is "old." Bless your heart.
And then there's Tom Hiddleston, who ages like wine in this industry
First 10 secs made me realize this is one of the best videos I have ever seen and I am subscribed to you now

I didn't know that Timothee C. was Saltburn's first choice, I loved the movie but I have a problem with Jacob Elordi and that is that I can't stop relating him to his role as Nate in Euphoria, that speaks well of him as an actor, but I would have preferred Timothee in Saltburn
Indeed, I fell into the timothee chalamet effect
Had me giggling all the way through as well as times for thinking about things that are actually SO TRUE

Maybe the hair has something to do with it. He didn't have The Hair in Interstellar.
Heavy promotion is just to get the thing or person noticed but for them or the thing to have staying power it does kinda rely on a combination of looks, charisma, and either high quality work or low quality work but high entertainment value. its not enough to be promoted, you have to offer value of some kind
So timothee has been successful bc yes he was heavily promoted but he does offer value, his looks which have been refined subtly over the years he dresses better his hair is better that 100% makes a difference in most people.
If I saw Timothy in a mall I would definitely notice, he is a prettier man than 96% of men you see in a mall
your channel fascinates me and i don't know if it's you daring to be so much smarter and wiser than me being roughly 10 years younger but it's one of my favorite channels currently thanks for the quality person with a guiri version of my name that i respect

well, Peter Jackson's elves are majorly twinks, so...
Except Timothee can act and is an Oscar nominated actor unlike Orlando.

I thought this was a solid and funny essay. Well done. I didn’t know about the gorilla but it was hilarious.
I fully had to check if I’d clicked out at 13:00
I have watched a number of movies with him in and at no point have I ever gone wow that's some amazing acting or he stands above everyone else as such an amazing actor, and he steals the scene.
I thought his acting in Dune was fantastic!
@@happynealltdpolly In King he was great!!!!!!! Wonka is pretty solid too IMHO

He is the most beautiful man I've seen
Now you must wonder whether I said that about Timothee or about you
I know it’s shallow but I actually get pretty anxious about ageing. I wish I could have a clone of myself that would always stay at my peak and I could dress her up and take photos and stuff whenever I get an idea😅
This was a plot in the Netflix show altered carbon. Of course it got weird immediately
The Picture Of Dorian Gray…
It's simply being a very honest human, isn't it? 😊. Many can relate.
Society at large views you as nothing more than something to fuck and consume items and services that cost money
For the love of god leverage any youth or beauty you have, but letting your identity be connected to any part of it is completely insane.
12:41 Just a passing thought - how do those looksmaxers explain the men that women actually appear to be attracted to not matching their calculations?
Birth control makes women like twinky weak men.
Oscar Isaac has been Known longer and in more serious circles so this was kind of a duh comment
Rainy day in new York is good, dune is great, the one where he's a drug addict and Steve carrel is his dad is stunning. He's good, and I'm a straight male, he's not my fave but he bloody good.
