This is an excellent video, I trained in Wing Chun for 16 years, trained the 2nd form all that time, never saw all these applications, I always thought it was for the solar Plexas, and to open up the distance, and cover up punches. Not enough quality Wing Chun teachers around.
Thank you Sifu. Been watching your super excellent videos. I have 45 years of WC [all Seattle located] & CLF so I've been around the block. Your teaching is perfection! Take care, David
I always volunteered to be the one demonstrated on as a kid and it made me tough.. Chris and his size with the technique of wing chun will be a dangerous man. The world should be glad Chris is trained by a humble man.
@chingwudynasty Actually, the fact that such a big dude reacts that way when comparatively minimum force is used against him illustrates the concept’s effectiveness more clearly imho.
I don’t think Chris is actually that tall. He’s obviously bigger than Adam but I believe Adam is 5 ft 3 so Chris can’t be any bigger than 5 ft 7 - 5 ft 9
I'm in Chicago , there's a couple Wing Chun Schools here and one of them is operated by someone that has a RUclips Channel but I'm not impressed , nothing here compares to how you are teaching ...Wish I could move to B.C. , to me your applications are closer to the way I believe Wing Chun is supposed to be applied Thx 🤚👊🙌
Is Sifu Nearing still teaching in Chicago? It's been awhile but if he's there check him out. Back during my leave them broken in the gutter days his Wing Chun was very good. Not sure who else is there since it's been a couple decades but because of the environment the fighting arts there tend to be less fluff.
GREAT VIDEO!!! It's interesting reading the comments about how Chris is being treated, the feedback of people on the comments section & his teacher Adam Chan reacting to his/student, responses and making sure he doesn't come across as abusive to the audience,.... In my training days with my teacher I wasn't allowed to flinch, make faces, be emotionally expressive,... during training because it's just as, if not, more mental training than physical which Martial Arts Training of Today lack & have lost,... So many great things have been lost through generations which is why we are softer today than before. Especially this generation.
one thing you fail to mention is shifting and footwork for torque. To me the shifting to generate torque is what this movement is about. Without the proper foundation of legs and footwork the arm movements have no power. When you can shift at your own centerline while moving forward or backward you can get off line and generate torque for power. That to me is what the Chum Kiu form is all about, the footwork and rotation of the torso about the centeine to generate power and getting offline to avoid attacking power. "rolling with the punches" think of the drum technique popularized by the movie the karate kid. That drum is a principle beyond a Childs rattle toy or instrument. It is all about centerline and torque to make power for both offense and defense at the same time.
1:47 you’re right Adam. You can use it that way. But that would’ve been a PAI JAANG. Horizontal elbow. The FUN SAO we teach TO SEPARATE THE HANDS in the SIL LIM TAO but in the CHUM KIU it’s used to teach the transition from FUN to BUI and TAN. And eventually INSIDE PAK SAO. In the 1-2-3 part. ☮️😉💯💥
excellent tutorial on CHUM KIL form..."it's a concept" the elbow and fore-arm strikes have myriad application... these strikes are best at sternum level as ADAM CHAN teaches... sternum is vulnerable anatomy even in a HULK... that is the ticket in the same vein as dim mak ...good scholar- warriors use TCM anatomical-acupuncture-organ knowledge for strikes
Chris needs to wear body armor. :-) I see the point about how the second strike is belayed by an occupied mind. I often get defeated by a stationery chair simply because I stub my toe on it. Even the lightest amount of force, unexpected, will distract one's flow. Of course, a guy the size of Chris would have me rivalling Olympic champions on the 100m dash...
Here is your Training Student Chris speaking. Master Wong, you never ever Hit me hard enough. I am Sometimes a little Girl. Next time be More aggressiv to me. Thank you master Wong.
Have you emphasized WC is Fundamentals and Chinese that means finish them to death at least at a spirit level. While as Japanese Ishin Karate does not plain and simple as it gets.
All the years this guy has been training, does he do any body hardening training. His instructor seem to be well conditioned is his students been given the same knowledge.
"From a Wing Chun perspective, you only use the elbow when absolutely necessary " ... Don't presume clinching on a Chum Kil Form b/c it is part of WC Basics... If you land elbow one could go in for Jiu Jitsu. I think Kyokushin's Philosophy is opposite, they recommend use the elbow. "People who don't appreciate a sense of difficulty in Martial Philosophy Arts lose often and very angrily."
As I am sure you already know, Wing Chun prioritizes speed, probably because it is meant for unarmed multiple attacker fighting, so the goal is to clear a path to run away. Hands are faster than elbows. Also southern Chinese people are shorter. Of course, it depends on your own body, if you are 2 meters tall, elbowing becomes more of a go to.
@@emilianosintarias7337 ... "so the goal is to clear a path to run away." People are so egotistical and jealous of Chinese they think running away AFTER knocking out several criminals is not strong enough.
@@emilianosintarias7337 After an elbow, I use judo to throw them to ground, and then grapple him. The crushing throw to the ground is to take the wind out of them. Then suffocate them to death is the Jiu Jitsu part. The abstinence of elbowing in Wing Chun is still a mystery to many it appears, or at least in the beginning even middle stages of Training.

Hurting your training partner no protective equipment, when he isn't actually fighting you, it starts to look silly. (We've moved on). Impresses beginners maybe.
i've done "trapping-arms" in Chum Kl for so long i forget "masters" never teach it in the form of Chum Kl. i love pinpointing shortcomings of "masters",,my master would tell us why that is and he stated "many m.artists proclaimed proficiency in a style they watched from afar. never learning the intricasies from a real master." .. is why modern Wing Chun looks so weak and pathetic.

One of the few teachers who understood Wing Chun.
Sorry, I don't think so!
I love how you explain stuff and how in depth you teach things. You’re videos are really cool insightful and helpful.
Yea less impedance mismatch not like Master Woo certainly not me.

Common misconception…Soft does NOT mean lack of power, great job!
Interesting concept and techniques. Very worthwhile video.
It's a good thing Chris is a big guy, he takes all the hits for the demonstrations.
And whines about it
