    I just bought a SL2s. It's amazing, what I now can get out of all my Leica M and R lenses, including the fantastic Angenieux 2.8/45-90 zoom.

    Could not agree more about the SL2. It is an incredible value. Not just in terms of Leica value, but in an absolute sense compared with other brands and platforms. I shoot both M and Q, and I’m a recent adopter of the SL system, having just gotten an SL2 a couple of months ago. It’s such a joy to shoot with M mount lenses that I have a hard time leaving home without it. The ergonomics, the feel in the hand, just amazing.

      Congrats on the SL2. I think it’s really a camera you need to physically try before deciding if it’s for you or not. On a spec sheet, it seems just average, and for today’s standard, below average. But once you start using it, it’s such a nice camera.

      @ would love to hear your thoughts on the form factor of the SL2 v SL3. I prefer the slightly more slender SL2, and don’t mind the weight. I also think it looks cleaner without the second knob. Very robust piece of metal, this camera.

      @@Spearmanmark I actually like the second top dial and the controversial on/off button, but I would need to shoot with it for at least a month before I can decide if it’s something I really enjoy using, or if it was just a novelty and eventually wears off or I end up hating it

    Just picked up a mint SL2 and couldn’t be happier. Swapped it out for an M10-P. Although I loved the M10 it never grabbed my heart strings as, for me, Leica M photography is all about film and I have an MP for that. Stick the Leica M adapter on the SL2 and I can do all the Leica M digital photography I want, absolutely LOVE M lenses on the SL2! Also, along with the stunning Sigma 70mm macro I now have the best 35mm scanning routine too.
    SL2? No brainer when it comes to peak Leica "digital" value for money as an all rounder camera. 😁👍

    I’d add to this that the original SL is also a great buy, it has the same features as the SL2 and SL2-S at a fraction of the cost. It reminds me so much of the original Canon 5D in terms of a ground breaking camera
    I use SL2-S’s for work but just picked up an SL as part of a bundle to use for my personal work. When I sold off the bundled bits i ended up with the SL for $800 which is a bargain for any Leica

    I'm sure the SL2 & SL2s are great cameras if my experience with my SL is anything to go by.
    My photographic history is probably different from most "M" system users, in so far as being a student back in the 1960's I had (& still own) a IIIf, with 35/50/90mm Elmar lenses. When I could afford to upgrade I invested in among other SLR systems, an older SL2 35mm SLR & "R" series 28mm (my favourite focal length), 50/135mm lenses.
    As with the IIIf, I became very attrached to this camera & system, and still currently own an R5 and the aforementioned lenses.
    Back to the present, I considered purchasing a used M8/9/10 cameras but rememberering previous issues with using my favourite 28mm focal length lenses with rangefinder cameras, I purchased a mint used SL, and with a simple (non helicoid adapter) I can use and enjoy using my "R" lenses again! The ease of manual focussing with the SL is amazing & results obtained by these 35+ year old lenses are as good as obtainable from any alternative modern "legacy" glass!

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  2 дня назад

      Thanks for sharing your story! Right now the R lenses are extremely popular with cinematographers, and prices have skyrocketed. Some R lenses are more expensive than their M mount equivalents. I have the sister system in Minolta MD mount with my XD, XD-11, and X700. Lenses aren’t as nice, but good enough for me. I do hope to get the R6.2 and a 24mm and 21mm.

    Do you find that the viewfinder lags when your m mount lenses have a stopped down aperture?

    • @bigheadtaco
      @bigheadtaco  2 дня назад +1

      Depending on the light level, but for sure, there’s a bit of lag. You can adjust the settings though. I reduce to lower fps which helps.

      Leica isn’t about price performance, much like how a Porsche 911 price-performance is very low compared to a Honda, or a Rolex compared to a Seiko. But that’s not why people buy a Leica, Porsche, or a Rolex, at least that shouldn’t be the main reason. Price-performance is for gadgets and devices.
