She’s also a fascinating study of what madness people will cling to because they want to avoid the truth.

Watch the daughter before you take sides. The apple didn't fall far from the tree. They are both crazy. Her daughter who literally who thinks her baby talk is cute, thinks she can "help depressed people" with her "coaching" sessions. She has zero credentials- none. My daughter in law just got her license to be a LCSW and she went through so much education and clinical work to get to the place Haley has just positioned herself. It is so frightening. They are both nuts. Diane's mother was probably worse. Maybe her mother wasn't even present in her life. My MIL mother died when she was a young girl and she had a very difficult relationship with her daughter. They were never estranged but it was strained. It is a modern cliche but hurt people hurt people. I am afraid Haley and her mother Diane will do plenty of damage between them. Being f- ed up isn't a qualification for helping other people who are f- ed up.

Diane has so much compassion towards herself, that there is none left for anybody else. She created a bubble, and protects it at all costs. She is not an adult emotionally. She is a toddler. Her words are full of resentment and repressed rage. It's leaking so bad. Glad she found a snowy spot to sit down, and cool herself so she wouldn't combust in her 'healed' state.

I’ve commented many times about my situation as an estranged parent. It was horrible. It was the saddest most shameful, painful year of my life. I would not have gotten over it, I don’t think ever. With therapy, amends, real apology, and changes in both of us (she did her own work, I never asked her to) we are good again. I feel like I have the kid I had before the problems back. I had to own up to a lot of things I am not proud of, things I actually didn’t understand about myself at the time. Last couple of months was thanksgiving, my birthday, her birthday, and of course Christmas. She came home for every one, and for her birthday we went out shopping and had lunch and it was really fun. I had a hold back tears and being overly emotional because two years ago I thought this would never be possible. Diane is wrong. Your kids will forgive you if you take accountability and change. Maybe not for straight up abuse but for a strained relationship, they want their parents if it isn’t toxic.

Good for you. That's absolutely amazing. I have been extremely low contact with my mother for years and she just doesn't care. She's gotten really sick lately and probably won't be here much longer and still absolutely does not give any fucks about me or healing our relationship. I've accepted that but I do wish that things were different. Good on you for working on yourself.

    • @angiep2229
      @angiep2229 18 дней назад +7

Congratulations. This is the way you need to do it. I feel like I've gotten better as a parent after getting some treatment for depression, as well as adhd. My kids are teenagers, so would not have had the ability to cut me off when I was a lot less self aware, but I feel close with them now. On the other hand, my parents never helped me get any kind of diagnosis or treatment for the things I had going on; they only made me feel like a terrible person. So, I guess that puts my perspective in the camp of both the emotionally abused kid, and a parent who really wants to ensure this never happens to me with my kids. My goal is to never have my kids feel about me the way I feel about my own parents.
Sorry that was a bit of unloading. But I really am glad for you being able to heal your relationship. I'm so happy to hear this. I wish you and your family many more happy years to come.

My boyfriend and his family come from a traditional European culture where familial bonds are extremely important. I really didn't look forward to explaining to this group of people why both my parents are alive, but I don't speak to either of them.
When I did, I downplayed it as much as possible and didn't go into detail, just said, "before I was born, my father told my mother to tell me he died. She didn't, but it was a huge fight to get him to acknowledge me. Throughout my life, my mother got drunk every night and cried to my grandmother that she wished I had never been conceived. I tried really hard to be a good kid and wish things weren't like they were then or are now, but the situation never improved from there."
His family were like, "0.0", and that was all I needed to know about how emotionally healthy people who genuinely care about their children and the concept of "family" would react.
They have been absolutely lovely to me even though we barely even speak a common language, and I am so grateful.
If my future MIL ever needs in-home care, I will gladly volunteer, but my mom is going to the old-folks' home and that's her own fault.

I almost never remember I have an estranged parent. Sometimes I even get through a majority of a video like this before I remember. It’s been nearly 30 years since I last saw my father and about 25 since our last communication.
He came back and annoyed my sister last year and it was awful for her. She gave him yet another opportunity to apologize, to even acknowledge that she wanted an apology, and he couldn’t do it. She explained it very clearly that even if he didn’t mean it, she just wanted to hear him say he was sorry for one specific incident in which he felt he was in the right, but he was clearly in the wrong. Nope. He still feels he was right.
It’s worse for her now that she has a kid. She can’t fathom doing what he did to her own child and certainly not refusing to apologize when her child clearly communicates a hurt.
I guess they would rather be the victim of estrangement than suck up their misplaced pride in order to have relationships with their adult children and grandchildren.

As the parent of a young adult, I also assume the estranged parent is the problem. Kids want to love their parents, I’m sure there’s a few outliers occasionally but it’s rare. but tbh the parent job is to be accepting of the child, I know people who’ve gotten cut off for bad or addictive behavior - they rarely become estranged fully even then, if the love & kindness is still present. How can anyone reject their child???? You don’t need to spoil them or pamper them, just love & support them.

I think I can speak to this situation from a different vantage point. I am the mother of five daughters. Two of them are my stepdaughters, but I am close with them even though their father and I are divorced. We divorced due to my substance abuse issues. He was a good guy. My two oldest biological daughters are still very angry at me, and have chosen not to speak to me. I have reached out to them, but they are not ready. And, I understand that they may never be ready. I just have to be okay with the fact that they're doing what they need to take care of themselves. I want what's best for my children, and I am genuinely sad but I wasn't always able to provide my best. I hope to be able to make amends with them in the future, but I would never, ever try to blame them the way that this woman is. I don't know the situation, but I would imagine that this woman's need to be the center of attention isn't new. She is completely without the ability to understand that it's not about her feelings. Because nothing exists outside of her narrow view and the pity party is way too fun to leave for her. Her poor daughter.

When these parents say, "the door is always open" it's another passive aggressive way of shifting the blame and burden back onto their children (once again). They're saying "I'M willing to continue this relationship, it's my children that are being the problem here." What they don't include is that they're expecting their children to come back somehow humbled and submissive, and accept their parents' demands for how the relationship will be. Because these parents definitely aren't planning on changing the dynamics of the relationship or their terrible behavior in any way.

What a disturbing person Diane is. And her healing from estrangement advice is tired and unoriginal. She is wholly unaccountable for anything. She apparently has NO ability to look within, total lack of insight. She can’t seem to understand that if she actually listened to her daughter and respected her, then she would not have to face estrangement. She would rather face estrangement than own up to her own shit. It’s sad and maddening. These narcissistic types insist that their child abandoned them or rejected them. Not so. When a parent faces these issues with their grown kids, and then refuse to take any responsibility for the state of the relationship, the parent is abandoning their child. They’re basically saying, no, I’ve done nothing wrong and would rather you go away than for me to examine myself. My mother abandoned my brother and I after we TRIED so hard to work on just some very basic issues with her. We eventually went no contact with her, as she was unwilling to take any accountability. I struggled with guilt about it, thinking I abandoned her. But no, she made the choice between working with us on problematic issues and us disconnecting. These estranged parents want so much for everyone to feel sorry for them, to give them extra attention, to be told it’s not their fault.
It’s such rubbish. I won’t let it make me feel guilty anymore. Most grown children have tried to work things out with their parents to no avail. It’s not any easy choice to go no contact, and it’s painful for all involved. But Diane is just over the top sick individual. I’m so glad her daughters are living their lives apart from her. I can only imagine what it was like to grow up with her as a parent.

I don't think these people ever stop to think what it has to take for someone who has known you since the second they were born to stop speaking to you. Nor do they realise that children are hardwired to unconditionally love their parents, no matter how much they also hate them or are angry with them. The gravity of the situation appears to be lost on them in favor of crying on the internet about how much of a victim they were in a relationship where they previously held all the power.

I think all of this is just her talking to herself, trying to convince herself that it's "okay", that she's not the problem, that it's gonna get better eventually. I think she's got massive issues from this and her entrepreneurial self also saw a way to grift off of it.

@yolandaponkers1581 Because me and you have normal brains. Narcissist brains are literally chemically wired different. Narcissist brains thoughts must always first go through the filter of "avoiding shame." So she must be the victim or else she'd have to face shame and realize she may have been wrong about other things in life as well. It sounds childish but this is devastating to narcissist. Narcissist must be the victim ALWAYS so acknowling how she wronged her child destroys the entire foundation of a narcissist

She's very insecure, which is the worst trait a parent can have. Parents like this can't provide leadership. As their children grow older they cring at the parent's awkward, feeble, worthless attempts to connect. It's not possible because the child really doesn't like or respect them & resents that they don't have a strong, self-confident, positive parent. The child flounders & the parent feels more insecure & it tends to spiral downward until the relationship becomes estranged.

After a huge back lash of from many people who saw right through her, she made her second video about responding to 13K+ comments and then created her "private, paid group" so she could grift while creating an echo chamber for all the parents who refuse to take responsibility for the harm they've done to their children. Since people fell for it, she's just continuing it.
