Very cool! I think we're on the same mountain based on your valley/mountain views. My view and I over the last 3 years built our own 1 room cabin with a loft, completely by ourselves. We also have a great neighbor that let us plug in to their electricity for our tools. But we are even more off grid, we bring our water, candles or battery lights, but we do have a wood stove that's awesome. Basically glamping in our "hunting cabin." Our outdoor kitchen is under our loft. We absolutely love our place. Great job and thanks for sharing it with us!

I have to say I compliment you on your building and not clear cutting every tree down, it makes the cabin look like it’s part of the forest! 🤙 As far as power goes, you could get one of those big Bluetti solar generators and just hook up solar panels to it, replacing the noisy gas generator.

WOW Jim, I'm impressed. I am a [forced] retired builder due to failing health at only 60. Takes a lot to impress me,,, I've built from Maine to NH-Massachusettes Martha's Vineyard Island [ High end Clientele] to Long Island NY... Health is Everything..... So important I teach my sons/grandkids etc to Stay Healthy, Stay Positive Stay Safe. I am very happy for you and your family for your beautiful home, You thought of everything !! I always wanted to build a small place in woods like you have[ but smaller] ,, I pray daily I will bounce back from my injuries, need both knee replacements And back surgery , getting to point I can't even walk up stairs w/o being in severe pain. I have helped many many folks realize their dreams building over the years so when I see a family take such pride in their build as you have it puts a smile on my face. Jim..the video was great.The old school cabin was ideal.. I would say that that's the style that I would like to have built.We would live there permanently..but haven't yet found the great deal that we're looking for concerning land.We would also like about 50 acres to homestead..off grid of course.I really like the way your cabin is on a steep mt. slope.I presume that you've checked for any loose uphill rocks & boulders before building.I think you've put so much into this cabin..I understand when you say "it was a labor of love.You've apparently thought of everything for sure.The only thing that I would do differently is build higher up off the ground..elevating a couple of feet higher..but that may compromise the overall stability of the cabin though.. not sure. My Dad built our home when I was a child and it was elevated due to Ms.River flood waters so I have always liked that aspect of high rise cabins.But your off grid home is great & we admire everything you've done Jim.God bless. ..."future off gridders"

Beautiful cabin! But as soon as I saw that humongous (but lovely) tree behind the place I cringed. Maybe because we just went through a big windstorm, and I worried about big trees coming down on the house. Looks like a great place for making lasting memories! Great job!
Yep. I had 3 trees fall in a ice storm last year. Only a little damage I had to repair. Then I had a professional tree guy come out and climb the trees with a chainsaw to trim them up.
I love your cabin build. It truly is a labor of love and it shows. I especially liked the water valve handle turned into a light switch. That's so cool. You mentioned how much power your microwave uses. After having a microwave in our home for years we realized we hardly ever use it. So, when we set up our little off grid cabin, we decided we didn't need a microwave.

John Thomas I love it over at Norris, I like going into the museum over by the dam I wanted to go last week but I was to tired for ginseng hunting to go. I walked some pretty steep mountainous terrain over in Maggie Valley Monday, and then Tuesday I hit it hard in Sevierville I did find anything in N.C. but found 20 ounces back home in Sevier Co.
Too AWESOME!! I wish our family had a get away like that! Such a blessing you and extended family can create memories for a lifetime!! My best memories are "on the farm". We moved away from family when I was 5 and we would come back to visit and we all gathered and my grandparents. Again what a blessing! #goodtimes

Too AWESOME!! I wish our family had a get away like that! Such a blessing you and extended family can create memories for a lifetime!! My best memories are "on the farm". We moved away from family when I was 5 and we would come back to visit and we all gathered and my grandparents. Again what a blessing! #goodtimes
