Just raise the bed with risers on the legs and use a long bedspread. The tall bedside tables are best.

That as a good idea use the taller bed skirt so you don’t see the riser

Taller night stands and find a taller bed. Or, put some of those bed raising things under each foot of the bed to raise it. Use bed skirt to cover those.

That room really needs a grander bed. It is the master bedroom, after all. And those taller bedside tables would be perfect.

Use the marble topped ones and raise the bed. Make a wall canopy with non fussy fabric to bring the eye up higher to visually fill the space. In your more masculine darker colors.

Or if you don’t want to do curtains/draping, you might find a huge picture or tapestry.
Risers for the bed is super idea. You’re right. That looked to me like a Full, or Double-sized bed, not a King-sized.
Another option could be a 3-drawer chest of drawers, of right height, that would give width while a comfortable reach for you.. (I have generous amount if space for tucking away books & magazines. Keeps room from looking messy. Kleenex box, cold remedies, etc all can be concealed. Just keep a clock radio and reading lamp above.
Might be able to find at flea market there.
      Good luck, Phil 🍀.

One of the things I really like about your videos, Phil, is that you don't fill it with background music, instead it's the birds, the dog talking to you and just real-life sounds. Love all the bird song outside. Wow, you are right, the large room size does make the furniture look small. The bed actually looks like a double, I was surprised when you said it was king size. Do as one of the commenters suggested if possible and use bed risers with a longer bed skirt so you can use the bed side tables you like most.

  • @teamum7729

A king size poster bed is in order here. You need to fill that bed space with some height and a 4 poster bed would make the room less cavernous but not too cosy. (Start searching both online and in the antique shops.)The bed needs risers, as others have mentioned. Nice wall sconces on either side of the headboard would also serve to break up that wall space. Move the current bed to a different, perhaps smaller, bedroom. Thanks for asking! Hope all these suggestions help!

You’re right. The room is so big that it makes the furniture look too small. Some real height for the bed would be best. A four-poster would be better. Or check out the 400 suite that Terry, Ash, and Tracy have done at “Escape to the Dream.” The piece on the wall with the curtains attached behind the bed, creating a canopy, adds height without having to buy a new bed. Putting the bed on risers would make the tables you like fit better. It also gives an opportunity to add accent colors. A patterned fabric to go with painted walls or solid fabric with papered walls would be beautiful. Such possibilities!!!

Lots of good comments here so far. This is my input...
    1. Raise bed & the bedhead as its a bit low.
    2. Add another mattress?
    3. Add lights and/or painting on wall.
    4. Use the taller bedside tables with marble tops.
    5. Or swap bed out for 4 poster or higher bed.
    6. Larger rug on the floor.
    7. Check all other furniture placement in the room re: use of each piece/height/colour.
I thought you were going to use the darker bedroom suite?
I'd still try to utilise what you already have before buying more furniture unless its a bed that will work for you.
    Keep going, you're doing great.

Conundrum: higher, taller bed - like the canopy bed the Pethricks just put together. Move the bed. That huge wall would look spectacular with a huge painting and smaller pieces like photos/paintings or a hugh hanging tapestry with smaller paintings.

Use the marble side-tables which are awesome, and change the bed instead, Phil. Get a bed that will match your future plan, or move one you already have that might fit better. ALSO you say you want a more masculine style, if so then you can't have tender, dainty little furniture. (Referring to the thin wood frame on your matress)

Honest opinion Phil - I’d do the Marie kondo on that place , I’d empty the rooms and only put back in what I like and bring me joy (and I literally mean only stuff that brings me joy allowed in the place )and get rid of everything else ( easier said than done I know , a lot of work and shuffling and moving I know ) but I think it will make a huge difference to you and you’d be able to see things a lot clearer.
Between the two tables I’d go for the smaller one beside the bed and I’d move the taller to between two windows in the room or something with a nice picture over it x ❤
    Enjoy your day x

Hi Phil! If your room seems to big in scale for those nightstands, you could use two smaller chests of drawers on either side of the bed. They would fill up the wall better and could be useful. Then I would use a set of taller lamps and a large painting over the bed. Just an idea. I do not think that that bed would work with risers under the feet. The tiny night tables are very French and cute, but like you said that is a big room! Good luck with all of your decorating projects! Please have a good week!

These rooms have so much potential. I feel your style is more like dark Academia. There are a lot of exemples on the web. Your ceilings are extremely high and if you want to lower them to add a bid more ambiance and coziness to the rooms, use darker paint colors on the ceiling. Large-scaled, patterned wallpaper on the walls will also draw the eyes downward but if you don't like wallpaper, you could make faux paneling going up 3/4 of the wall and paint them a color that contrasts with a darker wall color. I suggest using the taller night tables, with your bed being on risers and on a box spring, although I would go for a taller headboard, which you could probably create yourself. The possibilities are endless... :)

  • @erickoelsch562
    @erickoelsch562 17 дней назад +9

There are inexpensive bed risers on Amazon. That could raise the height of the bed. Another possibility to fill space in the room would be to add a set of small dressers on each side of the bed instead of smaller nightstands. These do not have to match unless you want them to. 😊Also if you add sconces above the bed for lighting that will help focus your gaze towards the bed and not just the expansive wall. Art helps too.

  • @lyndanorton6705

I absolutely love the taller tables. And I agree the other tables were small and the bed being low to the ground makes it feel child-like. I would have never guessed it was a King size bed. You should go find something you like. Definitely beefier!! And a bit taller as you are not a short guy. ( Especially if this is going to be your room) Linens can be moved to the new bed so don't let the upholstered headboard sway you. Could even go with a King Edward feel - big postered bed. Maybe something antique and carved looking. With this room size does matter 😉

The bigger side tables are best due to the size of the room. Is there any way you could make the bed higher ? You could use two sets of drawers at each side of the bed to give you a chunkier feel. A chaselonge would be nice in you room unless you think it's too feminine.

  • @unframedarts5378

One good thing about the dark colour scheme you are considering - it will make the room seem less cavernous, as the dark colour will bring the walls in a bit. Also, filling the room with more furniture, art etc will do the same. All that to say, the bed may end up being OK. You just cant tell yet.

I use to work at a house museum before I retired and the rooms in the house were quite large. Smaller pieces of furniture will get lost in the a large room, so here is how we would furnish a bedroom. We started with the bed, a nice big one like a canon ball bed or a canopy, then add your beautiful marble night stands. Now you will need a chest of drawers or two and maybe a wardrobe, keeping size in mind. An since we don't live in 1796 ( that is when the house museum was built) add a big comfy chair and there you go. I would keep the wall color neutral, woodwork white and go dark blue or gray. Hope this helps.

If using what you have, the taller bedside tables with a second boxspring or mattress to make the bed “match” them in height better. Also, a bedcrown at least 8’ up the wall and with drapery to match or coordinate with the other soft furnishings would lessen the bare look of that huge wall and look more to scale perhaps.
Alternatively, if you have short commodes (that you like) in any of those storage rooms, they would work and have a larger surface for lamp and other necessities. All the best.👍🏻

In the meantime, use the smaller tables placed few inches away from the bed, and a taller, slightly beefier lamp. The lamps are way too small. A nice painting or group of pictures above the bed . A larger rug will anchor the room and fill the space. Since the room is so bright the darker woods (not white) balances the grouping.
The chest of drawers next to the wardrobe in the corner needs moved. This gives the room a finished look until you can find larger pieces. Remember plants can be used for filling a corner or place by a window. You’ll get it together, don’t fret!

Start collecting some artwork and gold framed mirrors to bring your eye up the wall instead of focusing on the furniture that seems too small. The furniture isn’t small but because there is very little on the walls there is nothing to balance the room. xx

Bed - raise bed of add a box layer underneath. Night stands: The taller seem more pleasing but both seem small for space horizontally and you don't seem to be in love with them. So have a used furniture sale and put proceeds to what you want. (Use either pieces temporarily until that arrangement of sale and brocanting is convenient)

Firstly, I think it's an excellent idea to see what you have already that might work. I think for your big bedroom you actually need a little more imposing bed frame. Something antique and fabulous that makes you feel like king of the castle. Because you are. The marble topped side tables belong in that room, but maybe as side tables to a sofa in a comfy seating area. You need a pair of bombe' chests or smallish 3 drawer dressers beside the bed for height and to have enough surface area for lamps and phone charger, etc. The room is big enough for some nice bookcases since you have a fabulous dressing room. Maybe you want an armoire for extra blankets and pillows. A picture rail would help bring the ceiling down visually and give you a way to hang pictures without damaging plaster work. There's definitely enough light in there that you can put some interesting wallpaper in and paint with a calming color. You can use carpets to indicate different zones in the room and keep your toes warm. Have fun and choose things you like. Go through some magazines or go visit some other chateaux and see what others have done and what you like or don't.

Do you have a favorite piece of furniture? (Rhetorical) you should start with what you love if it’s your suite. Personally, I think the taller bed stands are better. Raise the bed or find a taller one. To make the room seem less massive you could always anchor the current sized bed with a large painting or piece of art work behind it. It will draw the eye away from the wall to the area. This would also allow cozy seating area by the fire place for a night cap before bed.

I like the idea of raising the bed and adding bedskirt, then simple wall canopy. Then use then tall tables.
But think console tables instead of bedside tables. Consoles are a bit longer and can fill the same purpose.

Use what you’ve got for now. No need to buy anything. Either table would look fine. If you use the larger tables you will need to raise the mattress. You cannot use a bedskirt or risers with that style of bed. You will need to raise the mattress. Add a box spring or a second king size mattress would work. if the bed has slats, you could use two twin mattresses, which should be the same width as a king. Put them under the king mattress and you’ve got instant height.

I think the shorter side tables would look better if they both had two drawers with a small opening under the second drawer.

The tall ones. Like everyone has said, either a bigger, taller bed, or put it on risers with a bed skirt. Love your channel!

I think the larger side tables are better for the space, but the bed seems very low.

  • @leahallen2984
    @leahallen2984 17 дней назад

Bed side tables should be of (almost) equal height. Raise the mattress by adding box springs under the mattress or risers for the legs. My opinion is raising the mattress is the wiser choice as the headboard needs to brought back in scale visually.

The bedsides that don’t look like a pair are a pair they are an his and hers set. The one with the space looks good styled with books. They are the ones that were sold to go with that blue bed.
I think you will get a good look with the his and hers and tall lamps and something hung above the bed.
The marble top ones go perfectly with one of the Rocco beds you have in another room there.
Beautiful place you have there and the garden is looking magnificent

Have you thought about building a plinth to put the bed on to raise it up? It would help in making the bed more imposing to fill the room. The plinth could be the same foot print as the bed, or even go as far as being a "stage" with two or three feet extra on each of the three sides. (not the headboard side) So one step up onto the platform that the bed would sit on.

  • @cgp1442
    @cgp1442 17 дней назад

You can always raise the bed with a minimal platform . I think they even make extensions for bed legs. you'd just need to make sure they blend with the style of your bed. The way the bed is now, it seems very low and understated for the room. Then, you can use the taller side tables that you like ( which I agree look the best)

Go with the marble topped ones. Raise the bed somehow. Use long covers to hide whatever you raise them with.

The marble topped nightstands would be perfect. The bed needs to change... a bigger headboard or raised bed further off the floor. The other nightstands need to find a home with the telephone table/chair somewhere else.

First world problem! That means you can change your mind at any time. I like the idea of using both the tall and short side tables side by side. Yes, it's a bit unusual but I never have enough space next to my bed after I've loaded it up with phones and chargers and clocks and lamps all the stuff I need to sleep through the night.

  • @ronniemensch2400

The marble top bedside tables are best. Build a frame to raise the bed. The bed does look lost within the room. Putting the bed on a platform will give it a better presence within the room and the marble top bedside tables will work. If you paint the platform to match the colour of your walls it will not seem out of place. One more observation, as you are tall and the bed is low, it will be easier for you to sit on the side of the bed and get up off the bed if it has more height.

Your room is so large that it can afford a larger bed (taller definitely). You need something bold and demanding! Four poster, maybe? Like the one in the spare room at Billy's? Maybe one one without the top canopy? Edit: Can you sell the extra furniture and fill out the rooms/spaces you're interested in using?

Maybe try putting the bed at a 45 degree angle to a wall, grouping with bedside tables, lamps art work and group other furniture in small groups to use up the room space. Fabulous in Ferndale, Michigan

I think all the white furniture would be good in a bedroom that would be used for a guest. They are all nice pieces that might go well together.
Someone suggested raising the bed, i dont know how you would do that but it sounds like a good idea.

Use a bed base like Micheal just put on the bed in their guest room. This will make the bed taller. If you look around they are usually easy to find second hand.

The taller nightstands are lovely with the bed. Rather than raising the bed perhaps just add another boxspring or add a second mattress to raise it up.

Raise the bed and add beautiful long yo floor spreads with window treatment from top of ceiling to floor. Add large painting/mirror over bed with sconces on either side of mirror/ painting and use the marble top side tables. Lots of pillow would be nice also on bed.

the taller ones with the marble tops are great. you need side tables tall enough so that the lamps are at the right level so you can read in bed. you could also lift the bed.

    Defiantly the taller ones.
Either use bed risers or shorten the legs slightly or leave as is because when sat up in bed they are perfect. Being slightly taller fits with the room but don't push them tight up to the bed, they aren't built in bedside tables, they are night stands, lol. Also, the hight is irrelevant to your alarm as we all mostly raise ourselves up to look at clocks , mobiles etc!!!
Good luck with your decision. I am confident that you will make the right one.
With your room sorting perhaps you should put a bed in each, pick one room as the sorting room and choose furniture as you go and deckutter each room to the sorting room. Leaving rugs, net curtains, lamps in each room.
You seem to be trying to do too many things at once.
Perhaps some help from the Petheticks is needed to move things around. Especially Michael he has an excellent eye for colour and detail!!!
Thank you for your channel love to bits. LxX

Hi, use the bigger bedside tables. Take off the foot of bed then add timber or whatever to raise the bed. I suggest taking the foot of the bed off, as it will not be covered by a mattress as the bedhead will. Then you will need a bedspread that goes to the ground and covers all the addons to give height. You may need to find a seemstress to make the bedspread but its only straight sewing.

Hi Phil. Why not plan to bring the ceiling down with thin wooden molding clear around the room, wallpaper below the molding and paint above, this might solve the furniture size problem, brings the eye down makes the room smaller. Janet from Oregon

I'll agree the taller night stands are more apoealing. Raising the bed, you can only get away with 3-4" onion style foot risers because that is a sleigh style head and footboard. They are designed to sit lower relative to the floor.
Better a Queen Anne style 4 poster bedframe. More in keeping with the taller night stands. It really comes down to that massively high ceiling. A painting flanked by wall sconces can break that up, visually if a 4 poster is out of the question on short notice. Don't forget you have head and footboards galore in one of those odd, secret rooms on the half floor. You'll sort it out.👍

Use stacks of books as a stand. Can rotate them in a stack. Will be adjustable. Otherwise raise the bed. Smaller stands putting equal drawers. I use plant stands myself.
