I have been selling ties for years! Finally people are catching on but most don't want to take the time to look for them!lol Best profit ever! Most have NEVER even heard the name of most of the ties you found! I sell suit, sport coats and blazers from those same designers and that find is crazy profit.
That's great! I haven't gotten into sport coats and blazers yet, but have browsed through them a few times. Will definitely look out for these same brands now too. Thanks!
I just went to a local estate sale. Usually the women’s clothes and shoes are gone first. So I decided to look at the male’s closet. 🎉I found 1 Ermenegildo tie, 2 Versace ties and 5 Robert Talbotts. Thanks to your video 👍🏼👌
Great topic and video. I’ve had luck selling ties from niche elite institutions - cricket club, yacht club, etc. Best tie sale to date was $54.99 for a silk tie from a famous club in Mumbai. No idea how it ended up in my neck of the woods. It’s definitely worth looking up anything that’s unusual.
I got passed on to over 400+ collection of ties from my uncle... I've found some really cool ties, like Egon Von Furstenberg, Gianni versace, Brioni, etc... Looking to sell some, but definitely keep others. Hoping to motivate myself onto reselling, because I also have many vintage pieces, like Phill collins tour t shirt, some luxury stuff, such as supreme x jpg, and some real cool cds, shorts, everything!
Thank you Jim, if it wasn’t for this video I would’ve of had the success I had yesterday. At my local Thrift store I found 3 Ermenegildo Zenga, 1 ETON, 1 Burberry, 1 David Donahue and 8 Best of Class Robert Talbott. I couldn’t believe my luck. Thank you bunches ❤
Love selling ties!!! A few of my best sells was a 1950s brooks brothers lambswool tartan made in Scotland. Took best offer of 175. Several stefano ricci luxury collections 50-100. A few ancient madders around 50. Chavet, Drakes basket weaves. RL Purple label nwt 125. After those its mostly 12-30 ties. I have trouble with brooks brothers idk what im doing wrong lol Fastest selling for me are zegna, robert talbott XL, brioni usually go same day.
This was great!!! I really appreciate you showing the lables, it helps so much!!! Sometimes the lettering is hard to read in the stores, so seeing the examples really helps me!!! New follower!!!
Your lucky that you can source ties for relatively cheap still. I'm in Canada, and after watching your video I figured I would spend some extra time in the ties to see what was there. Before I would just peruse a few and move one. Today we went into the city to a few Big name non-boutique boutique thrift stores. lol I walked by the ties, and no one junk ones were selling for $6.99. A slightly higher named one, I think it was a polo was $24.99. I just shoook my head, we never source in the city as all the price are retail. We live out of town and will continue to source from our small country thrifts, where ties are no more than $2
@@Retired2Resell We don't have estate sales in Manitoba. I wish we did, cause we watch alot of videos in the US and are jealous that what can be found at them.
Nice pictures of these ties, did you come up with the idea of the pictures, looks professional, did you come up with the concept for the pictures on your own, who did you learn that from, I will have to adopt that picture setup on ties, brilliant
Thanks! I did a lot of research and just took note of other picture styles that I liked and then came up with my own style that works for me. I'm glad to hear you like them, really appreciate it!
Dang just saw this video at 9:21pm CT guess where I’m going tomorrow morning…Goodwill tie section!! Thanks for the great info I’ve always looked over ties but not no more!
Thanks so much! I also LOVE picking up ties 🤩 to sell on eBay! Suspenders have also been a good seller for me… I found a Countess Mara pair and they sold in about 3weeks
Some great sales on ties..Appreciate the packing portion..I have a tub of a few hundred ties I picked up thrifting and never had got around to listing..This makes me wanna get them listed and see how good I can do with em. I try to pick up name brand ties for $2 or less, but will pay up for higher end ones for sure. Keep Crushing It!! Stay HUMBLE, Stay HUNGRY, Stay FOCUSED...~The Jarhead Entrepreneur
I have been selling used ties along with Print on Demand designs on ETSY since July 2023 and I have found that the Top Designer luxury brands such as Ermenegildo Zegna or Seaward & Stearn rarely sell. The majority of my sales have been novelty designs... perhaps I am doing something wrong :) Thanks for the video.
When I try to sell to consignors they don't want ties. That's why I don't sell ties anymore. The Consigners usually give indication what sells and what's popular. It seems that your ties are designer (high end) ties.
Yeah I agree, low end, basic ties don’t sell which is why you have to find the ties that are popular and people want. I consider Ebay customers much like consignment customers….have to put good products in front of them if you want them to buy.
I look at the prices of similar listed items vs the sold items and try to determine where my item fits within those. Sometimes you can find an exact match, other times it’s a guessing game.
Do you use a phone to take photos, or an actual camera? Your up close macro photos of the patterns look great! Great video. I've been interested in adding ties to my thrift repotoire. I never look at them for now.
Hi, great video. I have a soft spot in my heart for the ties, although I am a female. I also got so many from our late Ancle, will include in my sales. ))
Just subscribed. I’m planning on retiring and focusing on reselling as well. I’ve got a good amount of inventory to start with. Thanks for the info and motivation to take the leap. Appreciate your videos and the educational component
Thank you for this informative video. I've sold a few ties. Not too successful with them except for a couple of Hermes ties. I'm wondering if you could show how you photograph them, please? Do you use a white box? How do you get such clear shots of the texture? ❤
Hey thanks! I’m planning on a full photo process video soon. I use a white table with good lighting and then use an app to remove backgrounds to get them extra crisp and clean looking.
Hermès is pronounced er-mez. H is always silent in French & the è means the S takes on a Z sound. Place in French is pronounced plasz. I buy silk neckties to resell too, the ones that don't have high value, I refashion into skinny scarves or belts for women.
Hey thank you so much for saying that! Yes if it’s a really bad wrinkle though you might want to try a very light iron on low setting. That has worked for me.
Jacquard refers to the pattern and how it’s sewn. Most ties you see are printed patterns but a jacquard tie, the pattern is woven in there, you can feel the pattern and texture rather than it being very flat and smooth.
Yeah ties in general have a fairly slow sell through rate. Ties are also very dependent on style. Could have a great brand but undesirable style. Maybe try to change your title to add more style information like colors and patterns and see if that helps. But yeah that’s a great brand usually!
My son has over 300 ties, they've been stored, some are wrinkled. How would we iron them without messing them. I went to the cleaners and they charge $4 a tie. I've enjoyed your information. Thanks
If I can find the exact item for a comp I try to find something similar. If I can’t find anything close, then I will price the item high and then allow offers, and let the market set the price.
Traditional classic ties are usually around 3.25” and 3.5”. Anything over that around 3.75 to 4” would be a wide tie and I usually try to stay away from those.
I haven’t had much luck with Paisley ties so stopped buying them. Just did a little research and paisley ties only have about an 8% sell through rate which is really bad.
I loved your video. Thanks also for sharing the info about how you ship the ties you sell. That was super sweet.
Thank you! Really appreciate the comment.

American Repp is different from Regimental Stripe (heart to sword) and are often more desirable for their fraternal affiliation

Charvet clothes are super expensive
I haven’t lotted up any ties yet but might start doing that soon with the ones that aren’t selling.

Hi Jim, your content is amazing. Question please: if a preowned tie has wrinkles in it from being previously tied, is that still sellable?
Hey thank you so much for saying that! Yes if it’s a really bad wrinkle though you might want to try a very light iron on low setting. That has worked for me.
I appreciate your videos. I have recently purchased 2 Zegna ties at a thrift store. How in the world can I know whether they are authentic or fake?
Can You Make Money Selling Ties on Ebay and Poshmark? Does a bison crap on the plains?
😂I’m going to go with….yes?!
Loved this video. If any have a spit how do you clean them if you didn't noticed at purchase?
If it’s a silk tie you could maybe try dry cleaning, but don’t run those in a washing machine.
where do buy your box from?
How do I know if the silk is jacquard or not. Seems to be an important keyword
Jacquard refers to the pattern and how it’s sewn. Most ties you see are printed patterns but a jacquard tie, the pattern is woven in there, you can feel the pattern and texture rather than it being very flat and smooth.
How do you get around the minimum usps box size of 6x4x.75? Will all post offices accept a 4x4 box?
Maybe it’s a total cube dimension? Not sure but I haven’t had any issues with my 4x4x4 boxes.

I've sold ties that are wool, Cashmere, Mohair. Polyester are usually low end ties.
Where do you buy the boxes you ship ties out in?
I got those from Uline’s website. They have a lot of different sizes to choose from.

Do you only sell ties on Poshmark?
I sell ties on Ebay as well.
Or did you mean do I sell other items on Poshmark? That answer is yes, I cross list most of my apparel items on eBay and Poshmark.
Dis you sell all these on poshmark?
I sell them on both Poshmark and EBay.
I believe you may have under sold a couple of those.
Yeah I probably did. Sometimes I take offers too just to move an item rather than wait for a better offer.
