American here, I really enjoy your channel! I love listening to you read the stories. And I do find your ramblings cozy, funny, and enlightening sometimes. Thanks for all you do, it is greatly appreciated!
@@ClassicGhost so happy I found your channel! I LOVE how you go into a little of the history and the author. I'm so interested I had no idea that pre druid standing stones were a thing or that there is a lot of standing stones all across the moors! As an American it will never not amaze me, the ancient history you guys just live on top or next to! Like it's no big deal 😂! I would die to live near standing stones!
When I was 11-12, my great aunt went into a home and I ended up with her AM radio that was the size of a small shoebox, so it probably had tubes. I had terrible insomnia, but I wasn't allowed to stay up. So, I would get up out of bed in the dark and turn (it had dials) it on so softly that I had to keep my ear to it to hear it. We lived just outside Los Angeles and I would listen to KHJ radio (id jingle: 🎶 Ninth Street KHJ!🎶) with the top 10 of the late sixties in my ear. There were a few close calls, but my parents suspected reading. They never caught me with a book, flashlight, or the light on, so I was relatively safe.
AM radio here in the US was great. At night you could pick up far away stations. I had a small transistor and listened under the covers to The Beatles.
The signal was always stronger at night. ( at least I think so) so so many memories of static, fuzzy sounds as I would turn the dial..the bits and pieces of the different radio shows...so many good memories

Tony, this story and your brilliant presentation took my mind to the Chris de Burgh song; "Don't Pay the Ferryman," in the middle an actor is quoting from the Tempest; "Boatswian: I’d strive to tell you. We were dead of sleep. And (how we know not) all clapp’d under hatches; Where, but even now, with strange and several noises. Ha-ha! We don't all say "can I get"--Some of us do know that it is more proper to say "may I have"---it is mostly dependent on class or education. Also, geographical region plays an important role in how we say things. Some regions say "Gimme dis or gimme dat" (Give me this or that) or "let me have that there..." I carried on listening to you and was interested that you mention stone circles in Scotland. A friend just moved to a place with a stone circle on the property. Then you mentioned Carnac which is one of my favourite places as I used to live near there. I really dislike the word gotten! Probably because I was taught in primary school that the words get and got are ugly and you should always use have instead. So much of what you say is the way I tend to think. Just captivating this time around. Love your "blathering" Your comments on everything. Updates on your Buddy Jasper ! My mother always taught me to never say "got", "May I have", never "Can I get". Poor ol' "get" in all forms was banned and old habits stick. I remember listening to the same much loved songs on my transtorradio, on the Other Side of the Pond from you. ;0) Very entertaining!!!! As always, masterful, Thank you Tony. I LOVE your American accent!!! No need to outsource.
Love this story. I was so frustrated at Jarvis looking for certain trouble! “don’t do it”! 😂. Beautifully narrated as ever. Thank you 🙏 Ps. My condolences for your loss, my mum passed a couple of years ago, always missed ❤
I love your channel. Your voice means everything to me. The story and the rambling equally. Please just continue as you are. 😊. What ads?? You only have a couple at the start and maybe one in the middle. I can’t complain even without premium. Your northern accent is perfect to my American ears. It’s the only part of England where I’ve spent a considerable amount of time. Not sure about the Welsh accent. Thank you, Tony, for all your hard work. Get your rest! ❤ Does anyone remember the “Village of the Damned” or “Children of the Damned”? A movie I saw as a young girl that terrified me. My sister was in big trouble for taking me but also kept coming in my room late at night giving me more fright. Was it a book? I’m showing my age now.
I love the aside remarks and personal happenings, it gives me the feeling of having a family member or friend chatting. As I live alone and am inclined to only go out a few times a year this is a beautiful experience of company.
I'm more ignorant than I thought . I read a very little about Stonehenge in such places at times but I don't recall that I ever heard of C arnak in Brittany, although I have now looked it up once you mention it. You are educational for someone like me
Nice atmosphere for an evening tale . Thankyou. As always my mind has wandered and now im torn between craving bake beans on toast with cheese lol and wondering if I have the patience the spend a year marking the sunsets and sunrises over a year of seasons to create a stone circle of my own. I really do enjoy your verbal rambles😊
Well, I finished listening to the story, then I woke up somewhere in the middle of something about quavers. I'm not sure what they are (I'm guessing not the musical variety), but I did have a lovely after-brekkie snooze to the accompaniment of your voice, which was very pleasant. I might go back and try to find out more about the quavers....
I occasionally like the shock of tuning in to hear Tony doing an accent. But not all the time 😅 lovely waffle at the end! Thanks for all you do Tony! It is such a wonderful escape.
I still host new-age raves at my house. Oh and that book in the story, Pre-Druidistic Ruins of England, if anyone has this book on their bookshelf, it is indeed Tony Walker that has it. :) Tony, it is always the geese... Thank you for putting Rhinestone Cowboy into my brain, really, fucking thanks... 😃
This story has a lot to answer for with all the carry on anywhere there is a hint of a carved stone and a moon - no matter the temperature. It does wonders for tourism also. You made me laugh and blush! Keep up the hard work, it does rub off on us. Nice extreme rambling punishment. Adds and rambling long may they last!!! 😂🎉
Hi Tony, I really hope that you're feeling a little better today. Thanks for keeping up your great work through it all. I'm late in listening ( bloody tense weekend 😠 for me ), and you work is a real treat today. Yeah, the "crescent alter", was a bit of a give-away, but you picked out the origin by words alone, you polyglot you! Take care.
I can only imagine. 😔 Only time, love and more life will make this less empty. I hope that your loss will be filled with happy memories and joy in your family.
Great story again, spend my time listening to them while I paint wargame figures after packing in heavy industry due to heart problems, the author does say fall instead of autumn so wondered if he was American as you later said.
I think your American accent is just fine so I don't understand the complaints. Doesn't ever take me out of the story and it's not something that I ever really notice. Thank you for the stories, I love your channel.
Loved the atmosphere on this one! Agree that he was probably not British with his use of language and I love the comments you pointed out in regard to that. (Side note, your comments at the end of each story are much appreciated here! Really helps to give a background to the story and author and you always do a great job of explaining everything. And I loved your rambling about Quavers and the Radio at the end. Sitting here crocheting and definitely cozy!) I looked his name up before listening and also could not find any info on him outside of Weird Tales. Would love to hear you read more of his stories, even if there are only a few known.
This was such an interesting and eepy-creepy story. Loved it!! It's so interesting to hear you say the British children play in American accents, now-a-days. There's something called "English accents phenomenon" here in the U.S.., whereas American speak predominantly with British accents because of watching mostly British children's television shows. Such as Angelina Ballerina and Pepa Pig, as well as others.
That was the point at which I had to stop and google 'do they have moors in the USA'? I got lots of answers regarding the Moors (Moorish people) so had to change it to 'moorlands'. The answer is they sort of do, especially in the far north, they just don't call them moors and there is far less heather.
Another masterful reading from the one and only Tony Walker. As always, my thanks. I occasionally leave comments on your RUclips channel, and I left one after listening to your rendition of Carmilla. Tonight I went back to the comments there, as I wanted to check what I'd written and what I'd only meant to write. Oddly, my comment was gone. I hope it wasn't so long and/or boring that it got deleted. Now I don't know whether that occurred, or if it just fell through the cracks down at the RUclips abattoir, or -- ? Generally, when I leave a comment, you respond to it. But I know how busy you are (I don't know how you do it) so please understand I'm just curious, not complaining. Please keep up your ramblings, I look forward to them. Your accents, as well. These things are part of what makes your channel the best among those with similar content. Looking forward to your next, as always.

I think YT algorithm flaggs certain comments and reviews them w AI to be sure they’re in line with guidelines (like, in this case it might be to check for misinformation about disease or fear mongering etc). Then, your comment made it through so it posted. It’s happened to me before when I said certain things in comments. Anyway, that’s my theory but, I could be mistaken. Hope you feel better soon!
Hello from the US! I have long covid, too. I hope you're getting better! I'm glad I live in a state with legal Marijuana. That really helps for pain relief.
I pretty much always listen to the end to be honest, as you say there’s something of the shopping forecast about it. Not able to afford to support on Patreon these days but I still catch anything that comes on to RUclips. Cheers.
I also think your accents are great. Having just listened to Dracula, I thought the accents were very good indeed. Very clear differentiation of characters. I was also impressed by your reading of some Irish in one of the stories: very hard to do.
I was just leafing through my copy of House of Leaves yesterday! Now there's a book that would never be the same on Kindle. The shipping report sounds similar to number stations. I'd love to hear it sometime--reminds me of the Black Books episode where Fran is infatuated with the shipping report voice. 😂
Just subscribed. I'm on the cozy side and so jealous of your coziness. What you describe is exactly my comfort zone. Unfortunately, I live in a hot place--the anti-me.
I think you do an American accent very well on a few occasions when I heard you do them. One time you did an excellent American accent but said in your comments that it was in New York accent and I did a double take inside my mind and I did a double take inside my mind because the accent you did gave no hint of attempting to be in New York accent to my ears.
I'm an American who has spent a good amount of time in Britain and I've 'gotten' my share of Quavers and Whatzits. And I too was a little confused by the description of the stone circle. They most certainly didn't all have half-moon altars and such, although you will find the recumbent and flanker altars in Scotland. He almost got it right by getting it wrong.
I also realized (American spelling) that our American friend also seems confused about the moon. A half moon with horns? Surely he means a crescent moon. It's still a fun story. I do like my henges, dolmens, and tumuli.
Fabulous. Thank you, Tony. btw, your diction and narration are Laurence Olivier-ian. ))) "AMERICA! In American they haven't spoken English for years."--Professor Henry Higgins.
Don't ever stop the rambles, please. I am fascinated by someone other than myself who can jump from subject to subject with no real thread. Who wants to be "normal?" I used to keep my transistor radio under my pillow every night. 💜
I have several of your books, now waiting for the next ones. Creepy fairies? The Prisoner too? I'm old enough to have seen it on TV the first time around, was it in the late 60's? Btw keep doing your accents, and the "rambles". You'll never please everyone anyway. I had Alistair Cooke ' s book, 'America'. At the end he said something about, "There is no free lunch". The younger me didn't get it; the older me does.
lol! People just love to moan on about things, don't they---and I mean the 14%, not you and your Ramble. This story was okay, I liked your critique of it and found the "American clues" interesting in your analysis. I was awake the whole time and laughed several times during the blather, my favorite bit. Your book you're writing about the weird house with levels and changing rooms---I have VISITED that house (or its American cousin-house) many times in my dreams!!! It's a freaky place and it must be one of those Universal what-do-ya-callits in the human consciousness/psyche. I'm a very strong Dream Rememberer---since childhood. I always come back from those house dreams feeling like more SPACE has been opened up in my Mind, having paid it one more visit, discovered yet another strange area. My subterraneous dream house once had an entire underground train depot down there, with lots of passengers coming and going, as well as a river near-by! I guess, really---it was a whole city I found, four stories underground. In a dream. See---I like to blather too, must be partly why I'm a Fan. Take care, Tony. 💖🤩
I really enjoy can you talk after the story getting biographical information about the author and when the story was originally published it all related things . sometimes you free associate about related stories and other stories and about writing in general. I enjoy hearing it's quite a bit, it seems a sensible thing to enjoy . But sometimes you continue -- blather on is the phrase you use -- and I usually enjoy listening to that too; the only reason I can think why I enjoy hearing that is there must be something wrong with me .

Your other comment shows up for me - right above this one ☝️ I think sometimes the comments are flagged when they have certain words and the AI reviews them to be sure it’s not misinformation or whatever and then if it goes through the review, it posts automatically after that. I’ve noticed it happens with certain comments I’ve posted, too. You’re right - it was probably the mention of the big C 19. I hope you feel better soon!
As far as i am concerned the stories are an excuse for your chats. I am somewhat isolated in real life, your talks are important to me. No pressure meant but please dont stop, you are friend to many you have never met.

This author makes the classic mistake - instead of creating an air of the uncanny, he writes 'it was uncanny!' One of the first rules of writing is Show, don't tell.' M.R.James always showed, and let the reader fill in the blanks.

Love the stories, absolutely love the chat! Thankyou, you're a marvel!!!
Thanks for listening
Love this story. I was so frustrated at Jarvis looking for certain trouble! “don’t do it”! 😂. Beautifully narrated as ever. Thank you 🙏
Ps. My condolences for your loss, my mum passed a couple of years ago, always missed ❤
Thanks Barbara.
I'm adding the sound of fog horns to the waves you were talking about. Living on an island, that's my favourite eerie sound ❤
Does anyone remember the “Village of the Damned” or “Children of the Damned”? A movie I saw as a young girl that terrified me. My sister was in big trouble for taking me but also kept coming in my room late at night giving me more fright. Was it a book? I’m showing my age now.
was that the book The Midwich Cuckoos?
Loved Alistair cook, .. ashridge place, big old nursing home in sussex. We had a pye big old wireless, hummed whilst warming up, warm sound i loved! 😊
Shake it off, Tony. I love your commentary. There will always be jealous haters. Who's forcing them to listen?
I love the aside remarks and personal happenings, it gives me the feeling of having a family member or friend chatting. As I live alone and am inclined to only go out a few times a year this is a beautiful experience of company.
Thank you for all u do… I needed this tonight, a voice. I’m glad it was you, and this cool story
I’m glad to have been there
I'm more ignorant than I thought .
Just "read" this one thx to you. He caught my ear as sounding like Lovecraft
I'm a member of the cozy club. Most enjoyable.
I thought the Quavers might have been eaten by the wildlife.
IT'S NOT A FAULT! I love listening to your rambles.
Quavers are a delicious cheese flavoured potato snack that make a brilliant sandwich when mixed with cheese flavoured wosits. 😋💕💋
@@audreysimeon1111 Thanks!
This is going to be good. I love these listening programs. Keep them coming!
I had to google 'quavers'. Then chuckled. This is a very entertaining chat
So unexpected. I loved the story.
It was all true
I occasionally like the shock of tuning in to hear Tony doing an accent. But not all the time 😅 lovely waffle at the end! Thanks for all you do Tony! It is such a wonderful escape.
Thank you. Wonderful story. 🇮🇪
Glad you liked it, Mary.
Love your ramblings Tony, story was good too, thanks😴
I still host new-age raves at my house. Oh and that book in the story, Pre-Druidistic Ruins of England, if anyone has this book on their bookshelf, it is indeed Tony Walker that has it. :)
Tony, it is always the geese... Thank you for putting Rhinestone Cowboy into my brain, really, fucking thanks... 😃
I would be all over a New Age rave. Like a hobo on a free ham sandwich
lol . what about Galveston ?
😂
We have an active druid community in mid past Maine I’m not the only Brit and we had a weekend with Emma rest all Orr years ago
@@ClassicGhost If I start talking about Galveston right now, some of the other commenters will send me hate and malice.
Hi Tony,
I really hope that you're feeling a little better today.
Thanks for keeping up your great work through it all.
I'm late in listening ( bloody tense weekend 😠 for me ), and you work is a real treat today.
Yeah, the "crescent alter", was a bit of a give-away, but you picked out the origin by words alone, you polyglot you!
Take care.
i am a little better. I wasn’t over the weekend hence delayed recording .
I can only imagine. 😔
Only time, love and more life will make this less empty.
Sitting here crocheting and definitely cozy!)
I looked his name up before listening and also could not find any info on him outside of Weird Tales.
Would love to hear you read more of his stories, even if there are only a few known.
I will slot another in :)
@@ClassicGhost Thank you!! Look forward to it! :D
Great narration, as usual! I love Tony's accents. Smiled at the accent given to the innkeeper.
a bit out of place but he could have moved there
Do you remember "The Countryside in Spring, Summer etc" by Winford Vaughn Thomas? He had a lovely voice too.
Such as Angelina Ballerina and Pepa Pig, as well as others.
that is really amazing and fascinating. The first time I heard kids are doing it I thought they’ve been taken over like something from the shining
I love your ramblings. Love from South africa
Hello! 👋
See 23 .10 'late fall'. When did the English ever call autumn 'fall' ?
That was the point at which I had to stop and google 'do they have moors in the USA'?
I got lots of answers regarding the Moors (Moorish people) so had to change it to 'moorlands'. The answer is they sort of do, especially in the far north, they just don't call them moors and there is far less heather.
Indeed. It’s one of the giveaways
Great story :) Oh .. and Radio Caroline, ear to the radio, under the bed covers. horrible atmospherics lol :) Thank you!
Another masterful reading from the one and only Tony Walker. As always,
my thanks.
I occasionally leave comments on your RUclips channel, and I left one
after listening to your rendition of
Carmilla. Tonight I went back to the
comments there, as I wanted to check what I'd written and what I'd only meant to write. Oddly, my comment
was gone. I hope it wasn't so long and/or boring that it got deleted. Now
I don't know whether that occurred, or if it just fell through the cracks down at the RUclips abattoir, or -- ? Generally, when I leave a comment, you respond to it. But I
know how busy you are (I don't know
how you do it) so please understand
I'm just curious, not complaining.
Please keep up your ramblings, I look
forward to them. Your accents, as
well. These things are part of what
makes your channel the best among
those with similar content. Looking forward to your next, as always.
I don’t remember seeing another comment from you
❤ Thank you very Much!!❤
I'm stuck with this "long Covid"!!
Which I didn't know was a Thing!! 😕
Right ,,now I Listen!! Gratefully!!❤
Andréa and Jasper. .. XxX...
Edit, And,Yes this Is Here!! Strange that it Misappeared then came Back?!!
Cheers.
thank you
Love this genre of horror story, reminds me of the Maiden song Dance of Death which must mean I enjoyed it.
I also think your accents are great. Having just listened to Dracula, I thought the accents were very good indeed. Very clear differentiation of characters. I was also impressed by your reading of some Irish in one of the stories: very hard to do.
I live in the U.S. and I could buy Quavers on Amazon. However I can only eat Gluten Free, so no Quavers for me. Good Story Tony! Great Commentary!
You had me at the title😱
I was just leafing through my copy of House of Leaves yesterday! Now there's a book that would never be the same on Kindle. The shipping report sounds similar to number stations. I'd love to hear it sometime--reminds me of the Black Books episode where Fran is infatuated with the shipping report voice. 😂
Thanks for the story, Tony, and the great narration; and the ramble at the end.
Tinstaafl: There is no such thing as a free lunch.
Thanks Maggie
That was a good story. I enjoyed it. And I love hearing your ramblings
Glad my ramblings are entertaining! Maybe I should start a rambling channel.
I used to fall alseep to mono radio....always waited to hear a favourite song...before I'd switch it off...The Korgis...Kate Bush...etc...
Just subscribed. I'm on the cozy side and so jealous of your coziness. What you describe is exactly my comfort zone. Unfortunately, I live in a hot place--the anti-me.
I live in a cold wet place . Oh to see the sun!
@@ClassicGhost I'd trade in a heartbeat!
Thank you for your wonderful content, by the way.
People are funny. We each want what the other is tired of.
Very cosy in California. I appreciate your "ramblings."
Glad you're cosy over there!
I love to hear you ramble
I think you do an American accent very well on a few occasions when I heard you do them. One time you did an excellent American accent but said in your comments that it was in New York accent and I did a double take inside my mind and I did a double take inside my mind because the accent you did gave no hint of attempting to be in New York accent to my ears.
I really enjoyed this one.
I do eat Quavers but they are deeply unsatisfying after the event
I also realized (American spelling) that our American friend also seems confused about the moon. A half moon with horns? Surely he means a crescent moon. It's still a fun story. I do like my henges, dolmens, and tumuli.
@@JimBagby74 :)
Fabulous. Thank you, Tony. btw, your diction and narration are Laurence Olivier-ian. )))
"AMERICA! In American they haven't spoken English for years."--Professor Henry Higgins.
Thanks for that great compliment!
Don't ever stop the rambles, please. I am fascinated by someone other than myself who can jump from subject to subject with no real thread. Who wants to be "normal?" I used to keep my transistor radio under my pillow every night. 💜
Most Horror fans I bet have an insatiable appetite for the Moors quick plug for " My Brothers Keeper" by Tim Powers
You really do bang on about some random stuff
It’s my strength
Like blood on a silver platter
Nice phrase . Reminds me of Sir Percival
I'm not sure,,
~but I think perhaps my mentioning of the Long 'Flu,...
Might be why the comment I'd left before,,,is the reason for it's disappearing?!😮
Okay, , , Now I Listen!!😊❤

Both comments are still there. :) Maybe just a glitch of some kind. I’m sick with Covid at the moment, but just regular old Covid, and it’s so not fun. I hope you recover soon! ❤

I hope you feel better soon!
i will do. I’ve not recorded for 2 weeks due to tinnitus but i may be getting a little better. this cold thing has been dreadful
As far as i am concerned the stories are an excuse for your chats.
I am somewhat isolated in real life, your talks are important to me. No pressure meant but please dont stop, you are friend to many you have never met.
I’ve totally hated adverts since I was a kid and because of that I get RUclips Premium, you get access to a better range of music too. The bad side is that I have little money left for Patreon or coffees. Do you get anything at all from Premium subscribers? Anyway my gratitude and appreciation are profound!💚
After enjoying your chat I fell asleep. I dreamed that you appeared in my apartment as a hologram! We talked for a bit, then you disappeared. I turned to my friend and asked " does that count as meetTony?" 😂😂😂 thanks for stopping by!
I don't remember being there, but I go to all sorts of places in my dreams
My cats try to deflea me daily. But only when they themselves are getting a nice scratch.
Grooming ftw
He could also be warning you about other health issues, it would be wise to have a full medical checkup.🤔🧑⚕❤

I’m confused. The cover picture looks like those many nights I drove south west across Arizona or New Mexico toward Southern California or Northern Mexico, but certainly not any Moors I’ve ever seen. I’m just st saying.
they’re supposed to be standing stones not cacti. imagine the ground wet
English moor stories I’d like to see a new version of the Pete bog H.P. Lovecraft 😅
This author makes the classic mistake - instead of creating an air of the uncanny, he writes 'it was uncanny!' One of the first rules of writing is Show, don't tell.' M.R.James always showed, and let the reader fill in the blanks.
