Many people neglect to recognize that spike lee introduced the world to many blockbuster actors in his early filmmaking. If you observe many of his films, you’ll see the same cast of individuals who are top list actors currently.
Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Giancarlo Esposito, Charlie Murphy, Samuel L Jackson, Bull Nunn, Spike Lee. Serious heavyweight actors in this movie. I was to young to understand it all when I first saw it. I was a teenager.
Nah, he's getting his flowers late in his career, like Morgan Freeman. It just took the mainstream long enough. He now has enough recognition to get top billing in a movie.
@@thomasbrown3356 Long is an understatement. His character in Fresh is right up there with Nino Brown and Scarface. That character is never talked about. When I seen him in "The Boys" I knew he had made it...
Spike Lee, the man that had ALL the greats at the start of their careers in his movie's Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Giencarlo Esposito, Samuel L. Jackson , Lawrence Fishburn, Tisha Cambell, Rosey Perez, Woody Harrelson, and so on.
Spike Lee and Sam Pollard's use of cross cutting between the assault and performance is masterful. Top it off with the frenetic pace of the music, it makes the scene even more impactful. IMO, this film is one of Spike's most beautifully shot works.
I hated that Bleek had to take this L because of Giant. BUT, this was karma for Giant. From being a horrible manager, to the gambling and starting the mess between Bleek and Shadow in this scene. This was definitely on Giant.
I agree to a certain extent. Everyone the whole movie was telling Bleek about Giant. Bleek never wanted to listen until it was too late. If Bleek wasn’t being stubborn and having Giant around as much as he did probably Bleek wouldn’t have gotten himself into this beat down which was kinda the final straw for Bleek that sent him into the depressive state he was in due to not being able to play anymore.
Man, Spike had all the heavy hitters in this joint; Denzel Washington, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L Jackson, Charlie Murphy (RIP), Giancarlo Esposito. Of course this was before they all became names in Hollywood.
To be fair Denzel was already a name. He had done the NBC series “St. Elsewhere” from 1982-1988 and he won the Oscar for “Glory” the year this movie came out. Everybody else was still a rising star though.
What are you talking about,Denzel was already a leading man and Oscar winner. Snipes already proven himself with new jack city, thats why they were billed.
Esposito Samuel Jackson Bill Nun All of them got their breaks from Spike Lee. When none would hire them. Just the amount of heavy weight FBA talent here that shaped the entire Movie Industry for decade later !!
Darkness!! Charlie Murphy! It's been a WHOLE lotta years, since I saw it when it came out. But I really forgot Giancarlo was in about 3, 4, or 5 of Spike's movies. And wow, that last overhead scene. Never realized how theatrical Spike shot his scenes (I don't mean overly dramatic, but how it would have played on a stage, and then a fade to black).
😂😂😂😂😂 charlieeeee murpheyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy is fuckin hilarious …that lil skit looked like a Dave Chappell skit when he said “YO ALLIGATOR MOUTH FINALY GOT UR HUMMING BIRD ASS WHIPPED
I remember seeing this scene when I was young. I played guitar and I thought I hope that never happens to me. Cut to a decade later, Im in jiujitsu class, long story short, something goes wrong and now I cant play guitar again. It's soul crushing.
I can’t watch this scene the same knowing that Wesley is Blade and Samuel L is Nick Fury. Seeing Wesley knowing he would’ve worked both of them makes me feel a way now 😂
In retrospect, Bleek should’ve gotten rid of Giant as his manager, and listened to atleast Clarke if not Shadow with their opinions regarding his business dealings.
He fucked him up with that horn broooo… I can’t help but to laugh But Samuel Jackson just always have me rolling. Totally forgetting he was a smoker in jungle fever with Wesley Snipes 90s classic 💯💯
I always hated this scene. Beaus it was that little twerp Giant and his gambling addiction who destroyed Bleek’s career. When you’re around the WRONG PEOPLE…you catch their bad luck
Wait 4 of my top 10 all time favorites in same movie😊 Shaft, Gustavo Fring, Blade & The Equalizer! They forgot to invite Morpheus, that's my Allstar starting 5 😊
Some serious star power in this movie! Rip to Robin Harris & Bill Nunn

John Turturro too.

The Greatest Underrated Movie Ever! Spike Did A Great Job On This One....
I like how my man Wesley was still concerned about Bleek
YES, Them loan sharks was serious about their money!
True.
Shadow was a real friend, Giant had Bleek out fired up on Shadow. At the end, Shadow was there for Bleek
Wouldn’t say he was a real friend. Just wouldn’t wish death on Bleek. Admittedly, Bleek was fcking up though.
Shadow sold out giant
Everywhere you look in this film there was a legend. Mo Betta indeed🫡

Spike is one of the greatest at placing you in a movie. The atmosphere can be felt through the sounds and visuals .
The cast was loaded.

INTENSE SCENES HERE! LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS MOVIE 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍😍🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎼
This one of spike lees most underrated movies
Literally a DOZEN HEAVY HITTERS IN THIS MOVIE!
Spike is very loyal to his cast mates. Everyone here played in a Spike Lee Joint
To those unaware. Yes, spike lee put all these actors on in some of their 1st big roles. Classic
I watched this movie so many times. Love it!
Spike Lee's directing style can be so chaotic I would like to see what he could do with an action movie.
Damn what a cast
CLASSIC HOUSE SPIKE LEE'S VOICES IN THE BACKGROUND STEADY SAY YOU'RE FIRED DAMN SPIKE LEE WAS A GOOD ACTOR MAN / DIRECTOR/ PRODUCER
Yeah who ever was in the band and didn’t help would have had to see me

Great cast! Great movie!
Bill Nunn is a underrated black all star dude was in so many classic movies
Wow I've been wrong all these years Samuel L. Jackson & Denzel were in a movie together. I need them to do another with both playing the leads
They did Jungle Fever also

Possibly my favorite title of a movie. Mo Betta Blues.
Denzel got tossed around like a slinky 😂
What I learned from this? Never fight a man with a trumpet in his hands.
Lesson 2:
Don't fuk with loan sharks.
Damn snipes, Washington, nd Jackson in one movie!!! I have too watch this Murphy, Harris, spike Lee the fool!
Fact that shadow came back to help him after he fired him .... true friend
