Here is the jist of the song…at the beginning of the song he says “I remember it all like it was yesterday”, so he is reminiscing about THAT night. At the end of the song he gave in to his hormones and gave his word to be with her til the end of time. At the very end of the song it is present day, they have been married for years and are tired of each other. “It was long ago and far away, so much better than it is today”
@@mayhemacres725 his later stage productions with Patricia Russo make it even clearer. There's even another Carla meatloaf video of this where they act it out as married
I'm an Englishwoman. Meatloaf was an incredible performer. I saw him in concert in 1982 in both London and Paris. He was a true showman with an incredible voice and stage presence.
I was fortunate enough to meet Meat Loaf at a convention in Sept 2021 a few months before he passed. He did a panel discussion where he explained: "I'm not a singer. I can't sing. I'm an actor and some of the characters I play can sing."
The original quote he had from... The 70s, just after Bat Out of Hell, I think, was 'I'm not a singer. I'm an actor who just acts like I can sing'. He maintained that all the way up to his passing.
@@libbyrn8974 Chronic perfectionist, too. He mentioned just before Hang Cool Teddy Bear came out that for every song they would make that he'd spend no less than a few HOURS re-recording his parts, and he demanded the band have the same passion for the art. The success of the BOoH series speaks for itself.
He was very theatrical in concert too. I went to the Bat out of Hell 3 tour, even as an older guy then he performed with the same energy he did in the 70s.
You're both right. He gave in to his hormones, got what he wanted, kept his word, married the girl, was married for years, regretted it and wished that they never did it. This song answered a lot of questions for those of us that wondered why our parents ever got married in the first place.
The girl in the video is Karla DeVito, who was the stage singer on the album's tour. This live performance is synced to the studio version of the song, which was sung by Ellen Foley. Foley's TV and movie career was just starting up, and she didn't wish to tour. DeVito and Meatloaf were not a couple, and she told her mom not to be disturbed by any clips she saw. Jack Black asked Meatloaf to play his father in the movie "Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny", and Black freely admits to be inspired by him.
Karla also had a couple of solo albums, and enjoyed some mild success. Her voice was pretty similar to Ellen Foley's, and had a very complimentary style to Meatloaf's
@@jimwilcox2964 Yes, the TV show refused to give her time off to tour. Karla did a great job lip-syncing. And yes, Jack Black built his act around Meat Loaf and Meat Loaf was an actor first, in Movies and TV shows, he's very dramatic!
I have listened to Meat Loaf for 47 years and never tired of him. RIP to a great performer. This album, Bat Out of Hell, is one of the greatest albums ever. I have worn out multiple tapes, I have the vinyl, and a CD. Listen to it cover to cover.
The song progresses thru several years.. high school dating, "I couldn't take it any longer, Lord I was crazy when the feeling came upon me like a tidal wave. Started swearin to my God and on my Mother's grave that I would love you til the end of time." Then after years of marriage, he was prayin for the end of time.... "I'll never break my promise or forget my vows"

I was in college in Ohio during this time and Meat Loaf was from Ohio and he was huge. He got his name from his high school football coach. I was a brother from Harlem going to school in a mostly white school in Ohio, I played football so I was kind of popular so I can tell you that this song was played at every party and it was on the billboard charts for like years. This video has millions of views. It was explained to me by a rock and roll head that he said that he would love her to the end of time and he got it. Then the song actually fast forwards to years later and they can't stand each other now and are praying for the end of time, so they could get away from each other. Remember he says I'll never break my promise, never break my vows. That's marriage vows.
Just as an FYI, the announcer during the baseball section was Phil Rizzuto (the Scooter). He played shortstop for the Yankees from 1941 to 1956 and was their play-by-play announcer from 1957 to 1996. “Holy Cow” was one of his signature expressions. As a player, he played on five All-Star teams, 10 AL pennants, was AL MVP in 1950 and the Yankees won the World Series eight times. Some of his teammates were: Joe DiMaggio, Yogi Berra, Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford and Billy Martin. He also called Derek Jeter’s first home run. Not bad company to be in.

The only two universal languages. I subbed your channel. Loved the respect for the old stuff and loved the way you two, husband and wife play together. Peace and Love.
The whole song was nostalgia, they both were looking back at it from a marriage that soured. He made the promise she was demanding, he swore he would love her to the end of time. It sounds like they married. At the end, they were BOTH singing about praying for the end of time so they could end their time together without breaking their promises or vows.
Meatloaf’s background was theater and this is a rock opera. The concert performance were extremely theatrical and his talent in both was the reason he gained a cult like following. This did not get radio play in 1977 and this still became one of the songs he was best known for.
Meatloaf is the first rock music I ever committed to memory. My stepdad had the Bat Outta Hell 8-track in his truck and his vocals influenced me as a musical artist. Jim Steinman (Total Eclipse of the Heart) wrote all the music and lyrics. Brilliant writing found a brilliant voice. Beautiful work. Edit: Btw, your wife is spot on with her analysis of the themes to this track. There's are 3 tracks on this album that are absolute 🔥. The first 2 are Hot Summer Night (spoken word) and You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth go together. I implore you to please listen to them both in succession. The whole album is fantastic but those 2 together really work and are probably the strongest tracks. The 3rd one is Heaven Can Wait. Slow and melodic, almost gospelesque. It has some really decent piano work. The whole thing just gives off this vibe. You'll get it when you hear it. Seriously. I could talk about this with you all day.
You left out in the middle where I think they're newlyweds and he sings For Crying Out Loud. CAN'T do a full Meatloaf experience without including that
I saw Krizz with Black Pegusus a couple times and liked your presence. This is the first time checking out your page. Thought I'd sub. I was born in '61 and you're listening to the soundtrack of my life.
Yes, she is spot on. He missed the one line where he says "i couldn't take it.....feeling came upon me like a tidal wave, I started swearing on my mother's grave that I would love you til the end of time" THEN he moved into "now I'm waiting for the end of time "... he committed to get the cookie, then kept his word and lived in misery till death dobthem part. Lol
This is my favorite song representing the teenage experience at least in the 70s. It is the ultimate warning about making adult decisions before you are ready. As others have mentioned the couple married and are now looking back on the night that got them here and they both can't stand each other.
I'm just a year or two older than you. I grew up on this kind of music. Meatloaf was one of my favorite artists. Keep exploring the classics. I love your perspective on music.
Mr loaf was a drama student at my college. The university had a world class music school, so there was always crossover between music and performing arts.
A 'little" gem in this performance that really turns me on is the "victory dance" the girl does after the boy agrees to love her forever and marry her. It's pure gold for me.
Thank you for having Mrs. Crystal on today she’s a delight. You make a cute couple. You guys made me laugh, giving your son a hard time because of a Meatloaf song. I hope Mrs. Crystal does some more reactions with you. She’s a lot of fun.❤️✌️🌼
Karla Devitto is the woman on stage however, Ellen Foley was the original performer on this recording. Karla DID sing it on tour and sang it similarly. Meatloaf had a string of different female singers over the years.
Meatloaf came to Australia when that album was selling like crazy. The show was amazing. Ellen Foley singing with the Loaf. Sup Shoo Shoo? Bro, Love your style.
Meatloaf's one of my favorites! He made a resurgence in the early 90's with Bat Out Of Hell II. Check out "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", "Objects In The Rearview Mirror (May Appear Closer Than They Are)", "Life Is a Lemon (And I Want My Money Back)"
This song will always remind me of being in the Air Force when it first came out. My roomie in Tech School sold me the tape and the tape player when she left. I sold it to my new roomie when I left. For all I know, it could still be there. 🤣 So, JoAnn Klimko, thank you for introducing me to Meatloaf!!
Meatloaf played Jack Black's dad in the movie The Pick of Destiny. Meatloaf also said (according to what I've read in other comment sections) that he's an actor first and a singer second. The man was a national treasure. RIP Meatloaf
Funny thing that ya'll mentioned Jack Black. If you watch the video for Tenacious D's song "Kickapoo"; Meatloaf plays the father to what is supposed to be a young Jack Black. The video also has Ronnie James Dio in it. RIP Meatloaf and Dio.
This song is based on youthful desires, and back in the day. We used to go to Drive ‘n Theatre‘s and to the park if you wanted to do something naughty in the car with your boyfriend or girlfriend, and what happened and it within the song he gets caught up in the moment, not thinking, with his right mind was being led by his desires, and he got into a situation that gave him a life sentence in a relationship that he later on regretted, just like anything else, we do foolish things in our youth, and having sex too early, is one of them just in my opinion, and my observation, i loving all the songs that meatloaf provided us miss him dearly. Thank you for your reactions and thank you for sharing. Take care and Meat Loaf.RIP 😢
This came out in 1977, and the story is told in the then present (1977), about something that happened long ago. The lyric "It was long ago...." tells us it was long ago, and let's say that means they're likely 35+ years old whlle telling their story in 1977, so born in the 40s or earlier. YMMV. The music with the shoo wops reinforces the timeframe. Point is back then virginity meant more, as did a girl's "reputation." As did promises. They did have sex that night, and they did get married. Probably had kids, but the lyrics are silent on that. He is an honorable man becaue he married her like he promised. Also because he won't just divorce her, because he promised "to love you to the end of time." I think that last part is taking the vow too literally, but that's the plot. The plot also assumes the wife deosn't just divorce HIM, but rather she is holding him hostage to his turgid promises.
1:29 meatloaf was in Fight Club, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and The Pick of Destiny off the top of my head. And he’s great in all of them. Theres a hook at the beginning, and a different hook later. This single was on every jukebox in every bar in America from 1977 until the late 80s. And it got played almost every night. Also, it’s hard to tell, but this isn’t a live performance, it’s the music video for the studio recording. The woman on screen is not the woman on the recording (although she did perform it on tour with the band). This was one of the first music videos in “heavy rotation” when MTV began.
“I never break my promise or forget my vow, but God only knows what I could do right now”, he promised, got it, then kept his promise until they were ready to kill each other.
Meatloaf was in Fight club, Rocky Horror Picture Show and many others. He agreed to marry her and held to the promise. The feeling came upon him like a tidal wave.( he agreed ) then after years of marriage he was praying for the end of time .the outro ( that was long ago, that was far away )
FALLING IN REVERSE just dropped a new video called "Prequel"! You were the one who first introduced me to them with your “Watch the World Burn” reaction, so you HAVE to do a reaction to this new one-it’s INSANE! Please do it! 😊 Also, I’ll be at the concert tomorrow night at Toyota Music Factory to see Falling in Reverse and Tech N9ne. Thanks for your videos; they’ve made me fall in love with music all over again!
I saw Meatloaf in concert back in the 90s for his Back Into Hell Tour . He puts on THE best show ! Leaves it all out there on that stage for the fans - he was amazing!!
I’m sure someone else said this already, but the announcer you hear is an ACTUAL BASEBALL announcer - I grew 14:0614:06 up listening to him, one of the things that was so GREAT about this part of the song!!!! It kills me I can’t think of his name right now, but everyone knew him!! Listen carefully to what he says during this part…
Ok, I am laughing before I even click play! Can't wait to see you and the Mrs' reaction! Let's go!!!!! JELLY ROLL--fat, another one. I never thought about the Jack Black thing--great catch! I was in 10th grade when this song came out. It's the energy and the nonstop dancing and singing that exhausts ppl. Awesome reaction.
Sat at the foot of the stage watching him sing when his tour hit Detroit in the 70's ... just a kid, I was astounded at his vocal ability (and amount of sweat, LOL). An incredible talent, deeply missed
Meatloaf was a football player in high school, that got into Drama. He then went into Musical theater, and movies. 1977. If both are under 18, it's legal. From here you need Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad, and I'd do anything For love. To mention a couple. This takes place in the days before Roe, so if the girl got pregnant you got married. They got it on in the car, they got married then years and kids later, they discovered all they had was sex, but as good Catholics aren't getting divorced. In the day the kids loved Meatloaf.
Meatloaf also played the part of Eddy, the biker on "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". 🎶 Hot patootie! Bless my soul. I really love that rock and roll. 🎶

I have 8 children, ages 16 to 36. I've used this song over the years to teach them a very valuable lesson about relationships. Be very careful what you wish for and pursue, because you don't want to get into a situation that will make you wish for the end of time!

CAN'T do a full Meatloaf experience without including that
@@TonyM1961 I'm not gonna dispute that. I just feel the others have better writing.
I graduated high school in 77. Meatloaf was a big part of the soundtrack of my youth.
I saw Krizz with Black Pegusus a couple times and liked your presence. This is the first time checking out your page. Thought I'd sub. I was born in '61 and you're listening to the soundtrack of my life.
Me too... exactly how I got to this channel and I was also born in 61
Me too…born in 60
The whole album is 🔥
And watching the video clip as a child was hugely influential in a good way. 70's were awesome!
Your wife has it! At least from my understanding of the song. Thank you very much for the reactions! Very much appreciated.
Rock on!
Lol
Mrs Krizz you are correct about the meaning of the song.
Love Meatloaf! What a talent.
This is my favorite song representing the teenage experience at least in the 70s. It is the ultimate warning about making adult decisions before you are ready. As others have mentioned the couple married and are now looking back on the night that got them here and they both can't stand each other.
This is a classic! I was a teen at that time. Woodstock, Pot,LSD but we all made it and yeah… the music was fantastic
I'm just a year or two older than you. I grew up on this kind of music. Meatloaf was one of my favorite artists. Keep exploring the classics. I love your perspective on music.
Thanks, will do!
Mr loaf was a drama student at my college. The university had a world class music school, so there was always crossover between music and performing arts.
A 'little" gem in this performance that really turns me on is the "victory dance" the girl does after the boy agrees to love her forever and marry her. It's pure gold for me.
Yes, it’s the Snoopy dance after she gets her way!
Check out "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)", "Objects In The Rearview Mirror (May Appear Closer Than They Are)", "Life Is a Lemon (And I Want My Money Back)"
Loved Bat Outta Hell album
Family reaction time! Love to see yall doing it!
Meatloaf is one of my favorite artists. I’m 69 years old class of 73. In my opinion we had the best music and cars hands down
Beautiful smile ms.crystal nice to see you here❤
Thank you! 🤗
She snatched the remote, as he was sliding into home...💥POW! 😅😂
You both are cute. High school grad in 77 and I love what classic rock from the 60 & 70s was and is.
Great song, great reaction. Can't wait to get to know your wife. She's adorable! 💖 HEART'S Magic Man would be another good one for y'all.
“I never break my promise or forget my vow, but God only knows what I could do right now”, he promised, got it, then kept his promise until they were ready to kill each other.
Meatloaf was an actor that could sing.He acted in more than fifty movies.
Loved seeing Mwatloaf in concert. 3rd row. IT WAS A SHOW!!! I am so glad I got to see him in person.
IIRC he also played a Cop in Streets of Fire.. which has an amazing Soundtrack
Love watching the two of you do reactions together. Great fun.
it's an honor that my favorite chopper is reviewing my favorite rock god, thank you.
I’m sure someone else said this already, but the announcer you hear is an ACTUAL BASEBALL announcer - I grew 14:06 14:06 up listening to him, one of the things that was so GREAT about this part of the song!!!!
He married her, and is honoring his vows, which is why he's praying for the end of time.
Great reaction! Thanks!
She's right. He said "I couldn't take it any longer, Lord I was crazed
And when the feeling came upon me like a tidal wave
Started swearing to my God and on my mother's grave
That I would love you to the end of time
I swore that I would love you to the end of time!"
and he just said it so he could get some.
No, when he said it, he meant it with all his heart, but when you're 17 and the hormones are boiling, life-changing decisions are not a good thing.
@@hungadunga523 I disagree. If he had "meant it with all his heart", he wouldn't have kept begging her to let him sleep on it.
Great song AND a Great Reaction !!
Meat was a writer, singer, and performance artist. No one before him performed the music.
Meatloaf was a rockstar with an Opera set of pipes. Sprinkle in a little theater and you have an unmatched combo, RIP Meatloaf
Fight club is the movie you might be thinking of.
Dude cried a smiley face on his man boobs. lol
Its a memory guys. They now have been married for years and can't stand each other 😅. RIP Meatloaf, no one like you! Song written by the late great Jim Steinman❤...
11:59 Thas right. lol!! 1977 was a great year!!
I was 12, but yes it was. The whole decade was wonderful.
I was fortunate to see this live. Meatloaf was the consummate performer whoever he was singing with 🤗
Meat Loaf was a preformenece artist before they were called that.
The whole album is perfect. So good.
23:40 the Lady is right.. He"d say anything to get her then that moment..
Thank you! You’re the first reactor who has mentioned the “ adult entertainment music” lmao, I have always cracked up at the ‘70’s porn soundtrack part
I’ve said it before, this performance gave teens more information about the birds and bees as well as the consequences of choices we make in the moment.
He was an amazing musical theatre guy
Glad u reviewed this one !!!
I have 8 children, ages 16 to 36. I've used this song over the years to teach them a very valuable lesson about relationships. Be very careful what you wish for and pursue, because you don't want to get into a situation that will make you wish for the end of time!
Renegade here - love this whole album! Wife right!! Bring her on regularly!!! X
Every song on this album is AMAZING!! Like a bad of hell is my favorite song
😂 I love this and this is awesome to have your beautiful wife join you! ❤️
AT 64YRS OLD, I STILL MISS MTV OF THE 70'S-80'S.
I consider this song somewhat of a masterpiece because this keeps you glued. The girl's performance is extraordinary.
Your lady has such a beautiful smile, and energy! 😊❤ Ya'lls vibe reacting together, is great!
