Here’s some corrections by Crazynaut: - Urban Champion was actually discovered the day the update first dropped for Insiders. I can't confirm who did it first, but shout-out to Sixtuple D in the MG Discord who accidentally stumbled across it and sent everyone into a frenzy. - Though Blade and Blue were created by the guy who ran KCA, they didn't come from the website. Not much is known about Blue, but Blade was specifically made for Cleod9 to use in SSF1 (or rather, the Sonic fan game that eventually became SSF1). - Peril Roulette was said to have been revealed too early in its development, and the team underestimated the work involved to make it possible. That and the mixed reception of the feature in general led to it getting cut. - Sandbag had a similar planned accessory to the Pikachu/Jigglypuff hats, which was a bandage. I believe that was technically the first accessory costume that got revealed for the game. Nowadays it's only referenced for his lose pose, but there was also a bug in Beta 1.1 that let you access a buggy version of the scrapped costume in Training mode. - Wall jumps were possible from v0.8a to v0.9a. It seems they put separate wall-jumpable objects or something over the walls themselves, because you can actually jump on Central Highway's "walls" after they've already fallen. - The mysterious Krystal stage was just an experimental stage that wasn't meant to be anything. It was made by the same developer as Krazoa Palace but otherwise has no relation. - As far as I'm concerned, Snake's reveal and soft deconfirmation had nothing to do with Flash of Shadows, he sort of just got swept up by the rest of the roster revamp. - There were actually five expansion characters revealed on the dojo, with the fifth being Ike. It doesn't seem like his page was archived sadly, but there's a video online showing a later version of that dojo where you can see a square of him.
Not that anyone asked, but I made the peach castle 64 stage before I ended up joining the dev team. We had the stage in testing, but the bottom moving platform proved to be a visual and technical issue, since the perspective of the sprite needed to change as the large platform moved left to right. Ended up being cut since some of the aesthetics where not quite right and was outside of the scope for stages at the time. I left the art team once I joined a professional game development studio, but still looking forward for the incoming update, curious to see what the amazing ssf2 team have been working on since I left.
I first played Super Smash Flash 2 with v0.7 in early 2011 and it's been outstanding to see the journey of this game and it's community over the years. You did an amazing job with this video and I'm glad it will get more fans of SSF2 to know about some obscure things I've enjoyed talking about over the years like the old Subspace Emissary inspired Flash of Shadows mode, the old respawn platforms, and so much more. 22:02 Believe it or not, I do recognize the name Muah, I remember watching his videos on Super Smash Flash 2 and Super Smash Bros Crusade and having discussions with him in the comments about those games. Fun Fact: Sonic's Artwork used from v0.9b, while uses Sonic's Charging Up Smash animation from Brawl, the angle and frame picked accordingly was picked with Smash 4 Artwork of Sonic as inspiration, mainly the head. The pose was also picked as it kinda resembles how Sonic's start up on Rooftop Run in Sonic Generations. I was the one who did an early progress of the sprite artwork and a fellow SSF2 Dev I was in contact with who cleaned it up and finished it before it was added to the demo at the time.
hey bowler, ex-ssf2 dev here - peril roulette got killed because the devs who came up with it and were excited about it left the project. wasnt more complicated than that :)
Man I have so much nostalgia with SSF1, played it religiously in my school years and I would always discuss with my friends on how to unlock everyone, dumb kid me always though Blade and Blue were official characters and would try to look up what game Sonic Games they came from, kid me did not understand the concept of OCs, I was so young and naive. SS1 would be my first introduction to characters like Crono, Lloyd, and even Cloud. A shame Mr. Incredible never came back in SSF2, the greatest loss of SS2 was the unique Respawn Platforms, they were very soulful and charming nods to a character’s series, awesome video!
The computer lap part gave me so much nostalgia. I remember always trying to speed run ssf1 after school seeing how fast I could unlock Luigi in classic mode
This game was part of my childhood amd was the reason I spent several sleepless nights. I never had a video game in the early years of my life and discover this game made me fell into many games that I didn't know and games that nowdays are my favorite, like Kid Icarus and the Mother series. I don't think there's enough words in my vocabulary to thank the creator and devs of this game, they made the boring childhood a brazilian kid in a poor family much happier and much better.
EarthBound spoilers for the Devil's Machine unlock method: If I remember correctly you need to self destruct in lake of rage, which could be a reference to the Deep Deep Darkness, which is a swamp in EarthBound and has a remix in the ssf2 stage, and needing Ness's Ghost Costume might be a reference to the fact that to beat gyigas, Ness has to travel to the past by transferring his soul into a robot, gyigas being located at the Devil's Machine
This made me realize just how long SSF2 has been a part of my life, as I remember most of this iceberg firsthand. I’m happy the journey continues and I look forward to SSF2’s future
Some fun facts / experiences of mine while playing this game over the years: A long time ago, back in middle school, I was playing SSF2 v0.8b with one of my friends. I ended up using a Poké Ball and we experienced the MissingNo reference first hand. We were on a Chromebook and luckily I knew it was from the game (I wasn't fooled haha). The problem was, instead if returning the game to a normal playable state, the sound ended up going blank, and we could not interact with the game. We ended up having to restart the Chrome browser to get it to work again. Once again, I was playing SSF2 v0.8b with one of my friends. I was Sora, and he was Goku. For some reason I did not understand how the glide mechanic worked back then when Sora had a Brawl-like glide so I quite literally disabled the jump button and used Up-B and a combination of Neutral-B and N-Air to recover (N-Air made him sudo-glide). Now here's something I haven't ever seen get covered. I used to be someone that played many different versions of SSF2, essentially I was a glitch hunter that liked to expose glitches from different versions of the game. I was also a nerd with how the physics engine has changed over the years. Since at the time I was on a Chromebook, I could only use the Flash player to play the game. I had gone on to an unblocked games site that took me to v0.9a. This however, was no ordinary v0.9a. Half the items were gone from the menu, greyed out, including the Smash Ball, but half the items were available still. In addition, I had found out on one random match that Ichigo's grounded Up-B had a 1 frame active hitbox (the last hit of the multihit), where I kid you not, it just insta-killed the opponent. At 0% even, it looked like launching someone at 300% with a smash attack. Great iceberg video btw!
Small correction/minor nitpick - Key Jacket’s hitbox wasn’t technically permanent because you had to roll through Trampoline to actually make it hit people. But otherwise, great vid. Nice to see you back
Excuse me for this, but I kinda feel that I must re-lived that time in my life when the Sonic Fanbase had this concept of Dark Sonic's existence. Dark Sonic is strange as it only appeared on the Anime, Sonic X, and is difficult to say if it is a real Super form in that Universe. It only happened when Sonic got enraged after his friends were harmed by the main villain of the final arc and it is believed that it was caused by the insane amount of fabricated fake Chaos Emeralds. The "true" power of Dark Sonic wouldn't be equal to Super Sonic because Negative thoughts don't bring the same power as positive, and that is hard to know if a Fake Emerald can have the same limitless power as a real Chaos Emerald (in fact, we have a "true" Dark form, which is Darkspine Sonic). This "equal" power to Super is mostly from fan-animations.

Hey bowler love your channel I was wondering if you could ever do another review on the sandbox mod now that it has multiple new fighters, I know you mentioned not usually wanting to do mod videos but I genuinely think it would be a great video!
Fun fact! Spongebob was planned as an expansion character. If i can get into my old MCG Forums account, i can provide screenshot proof as I was told this info in a DM after making a character request thread
I can’t find a video on this and wish it was in the iceberg, but I remember a glitch where Pac-Man could have Galaga’s stay out on the stage forever as constant hitboxes and can’t find any video footage of it. Also hi Bowler, it’s been a while!
Ok, so I watched this on my Nintendo Switch and I wanted to say a couple of things... 1) I think when Black Mage was unintentionally made, this caused a chain reaction that not only put the roster on a overhaul, but may have caused certain heroes to be kicked out. NES Mario, Sephiroth, Snake, Diddy Kong and that one fellow from Lloyd's franchise have DEFINITELY got kicked out. Zero must've also got cut due to Mega Man being the classic variant now. Olimar wouldn't make sense since the starting roster is complete. 2) There's a 50/50 chance that Rosalina could show up as a character after all. I had a thought that Waluigi might count as a Wario rep, since there's a chance that Wario has something to do with Waluigi's unlock criteria. With Waluigi excluded as a Mario rep, there's a possibility that Rosalina may have a shot, since she's very popular in this time period and has been unlockable in the past Nintendo games. 3) That one April fools video... It took me a minute to think about it...but what if(It's possible) that AI program is the true antagonist? Think about it for a minute. Who would have the power to control a object with eyes that wants revenge? What if the revenge is no longer on the developers, but it's on the actual FIGHTERS? That would make sense on why its face only shows up on the Waiting Arena stage in Halloween exclusively.
@@SuperDreampuffGamer It probably has something to do with that unlisted video that bowler mentions in this video, considering that C L E O D B O T canonically has access to sandbag as a vessel and two master hands (from a certain secret in the game's single player content) So maybe the unlisted video is not from the developers, but canonically it was uploaded to their channel by C L E O D B O T (after all, he (?) can take full control of the developers' accounts) as a warning to us players that he has gained immense power while in the "Final Destination" (it is a trope after all that characters in media with immense power are capable of breaking the fourth wall, which C L E O D B O T is doing twice in the unlisted video and has done it a third time by seizing control of the developer accounts), waiting to show us just how scary he (?) can be. (By the way, the question marks are there because I have no clue what pronouns should be used for C L E O D B O T)
@@Cflower936 That's why I'm saying that CLEODBOT may have something to do with something. If "it" has the power to torment the developers, wouldn't it have the power to torment the fighters through some kind of mode?
@@SuperDreampuffGamer In a way, the secret event I mentioned earlier (not naming it since some new player may accidentally read this and end up spoiling their fun because of me) involves that too, even having a cameo from C L E O D B O T itself essentially showing us "fun" (I personally would indeed describe what happens as a very annoying nightmare if taken from the fighters' perspective)
I havnt heard a thing about SSF2 ever since flash games died (rip). Glad RUclips finally reminded me why i subscribed to you. Anyways, is it worth trying to track down how to play this game again, or is McLeod working on that new game of his?
The devs have been cooking a major update for a few years now, I’d honestly say waiting for that to release is the best option. Should be soon based on teasers
We really need more plat fighters.. I fired this game up 2 years ago and had a blast but I was playing ultimate at the time so didn't think much of it.
@BowlerSSF2 Thanks for the reply! Can't wait to play as Waluigi online again. I miss this game.
Would it be cool to have cubots as a playable fighter in the actuall game

Im not very suprised that the actor learned about Luffy via SSF2, because i myself learned about Goku via SSF2 back in 0.8

We really need more plat fighters.. I fired this game up 2 years ago and had a blast but I was playing ultimate at the time so didn't think much of it. I also had problems with controller binds like making tilt stick not smash attack..it threw me off. Now I'm playing rivals 2 but about to download this again and see whats new.
6:30 Mom i made it!
