8:08 When it comes to Wobbuffet, besides Spewpa there is also Pyukumuku, who counters physical attacks like Wobbuffet, but can also be picked up and thrown where it will attack any foes in the path they're thrown in. Which means it does what Wobbuffet did and some more things as well
They might have cut tingle in the transition to ultimate do to the great bay's return, where he is a stage Hazard. But they could have just made it impossible to tingle to Spawn there, just like other assists in the game
I believe that Onyx was cut for the simple reason that it's just a bit too hard to react to. Yes, the rocks don't do much damage and complaining about an item not being balanced is like complaining that grass is green, but they do come down quite quickly, so it could be a bit annoying.
9:31-9:34 Ho Ho is in Smash Ultimate. You need to either fight the Ho Ho Spirit(one of the hardest to fight) or play Kalos Pokemon League with hazards on and see if he spawns in the blazing chamber
One thing I find funny is that Venusaur wasn't able to learn earthquake until Ruby & Sapphire, which came out after Melee. Out of all the Kanto starters it's the only one that didn't learn it in gens 1 & 2.
I love characters getting upgraded to fighters since it is fun seeing an already represented character be more prominent but also it’s nice for fans of said character
Charizard went from a Pokeball Pokémon in 64/Melee, graduated into a full on fighter with Pokémon Trainer in Brawl, was left all alone in Smash 3DS/Wii U, and now his trainer came back with his entire team. Charizard has the most intriguing and fun history out of any Smash Bros fighter. The Smash team always found a way to include them, that’s how popular Charizard is.
Arguably Ridley as well (although I may be biased). He was a rare background effect on Zebes for the 64, in the intro for Melee, as TWO bosses in Brawl’s Subspace Emissary (one regular and one for Meta Ridley), a stage hazard and boss for Smash 4; and finally after so much wait, he finally became a playable character.
I don’t think Marill was replaced by eevee or fletchling but instead piplup and oshawatt. While it does looks different, functionality wise, they seem much more similar. Additionally, they’re all water type pokemon
I’d love to see some new gen 9 Pokémon in the next smash game, like: Gholdengo, who can use meowth’s old coin spew thing. Annihilape, who deals more/less damage depending on the user’s damage percentage. The final evo of the starters, who would use their respective special moves. (Flower Trick, Torch Song, Aqua Step)
I feel like if we do get a sixth Smash game (seventh if you count Smash 3DS and Smash Wii U as separate games), Meowscarada will be a playable character with Fuecoco and Quaxly as Poké Ball Pokémon. Meowscarada is *the* most popular starter of Gen IX, with an easy-to-visualize moveset and a chance to finally get a fully-evolved Grass starter on the roster. Gholdengo and Annihilape are good ideas tho. We could also add in Ogerpon who will do four attacks: Ivy Cudgel, using it once for each mask.
Just a theory, but Starmie might have gotten dropped for Staryu due to a certain redheaded gym leader dropping Starmie from her team just before Gen 2 came around while still using Staryu as her main battler well into Gen 2, so may have become more recognizable.
Good video! It would have been cool if you did like a quick tier list or ranking on which assists/pokemon you'd want to come back most at the end. Like a quick recap kind of thing.
Neat video my favourite would have to be Mr Resetti. I normally don’t like the trophies that block the screen but this one’s simply hilarious. I remember back then we used to stop playing the game just to read what he had to say because of how funny it was!
I think it would be interesting if instead of leaving out most of the Pokemon with similar designs, there is a randomness to which one pops out. But on the first random pull, when the Poke Ball is thrown, similar Pokemon are still in the same slot, just if multiple Pokemon occupy that slot it will choose randomly from that pool. Staryu/Starmie, Marill/Piplup/Oshawot, Koffing/Weezing and Chikorita/Snivy could all be in the game this way while not muddying up the pool of Pokemon.
To be fair on Venusaur in Smash 64, it _was_ in Saffron City as one of the Silph Co Pokémon. Same with Electrode, Porygon, Charmander, and Chansey… again. Makes sense that Melee used Venusaur, Electrode, and Gen 2 reps that could mimic Porygon and Charmander with Porygon2 and Cyndaquil respectively. Heck, Chikorita functions like Saffron Venusaur _used_ to function.
Common W for the goat content creator. Would love to see you explore the changes in functionality for assistant and Pokémon, like Meowth’s Payday change, scizors functionality, mew dropping items, and even things like how it is now possible to spawn multiple assists in ultimate:
We think the reason why Starmie was changed to Staryu was because of the anime. In the anime, Misty had both a Staryu and a Starmie, but she rarely used Starmie and instead used Staryu more throughout her appearances in the anime. This possibly made Staryu more popular than its evolution, similar to how people remember Psyduck but never really remember Golduck, and they changed it in Smash Melee to be more recognizable, and it just stuck ever since.
If I had to include 5 Pokemon in a future game- - Magikarp (uses Flail. Flops around and hits fighters with strong knockback like a cross between goldeen and bonsly) - Mr Mime (builds invisible barrier that last a while) - Crobat (uses Cross Poison. Fires an X shape shot that will do constant damage. Also, my Gen 2 bias) - Toxtricity (imagine the Barbara AT but ends with a scream that has pushback) - Spidops (leaps at fighters to stuns them in place) For assist trophies- - Fuzzy (Yoshi series. Touch it, screen gets dizzy) - Raven Beak/EMMI (can't decide which. Raven Beak behaves similar to how Dark Samus) - Bandana Dee (jabs and downstabs opponents. Sort of like a more stabby Shovel Knight) - BotW Zelda/Purah (uses various runes on the Sheikah Slate. Cryo brings up an ice block, magnesis let's her drop an item from on high, Timestop will stop a random fighter in place for a brief moment) - Something Pokemon related (Like the Yoshi series, it hasn't had any representation in the AT. I'm undecided between Ball Guy, an Ultra Beast, A Space-Time distortion or Lusamine-Nihilego Mother Beast)
I feel like a Cut video that would be really cool is "Cut characters", while yes all of the characters made it to Smash Ultimate, there have been several characters that were: a) cut from pervious games before being brought back to Ultimate and b) Originally intended to be in a different game before being cut from that one
As soon as you mentioned that Unown performed Take Down, I verbally said “Erm actually-“ so I’m glad to hear your brother had the same response also I’ve been having the same Majora’s Mask vs. TotK crisis lol
Little correction for the Brawl section of this video: Brawl actually gave all 3 Legendaries who did nothing before an effect. Upon being spawned, Jirachi would drop a lot of Stickers to collect, Celeby would drop 3 Trophies to collect, and Mew would drop a Music Disc for a new stage song. Nothing much, but neat little fitting gimmicks for Brawl
I will forever mourn the loss of Magnus representation 😔 Hopefully if we get another smash game, he'll show up as an assist trophy again (or maybe even playable fighter! He'd be perfect for the role, he'd offer some variety among the kid Icarus reps)
We think the reason why Clefairy was cut was because of Togepi. Both use Metronome, but Togepi was more well known and popular and was kinda more well known with Metronome (because of anime). So they probably realized having two Pokemon with the same move was redundant, so they cut Clefairy after Melee for Togepi.
9:51 I remember one time playing Brawl with a bunch of friends and Torchick got spawned, to which one friend said "That is one hot chick!" We... didn't know how to respond to that. But it's a recurring joke to this day.
Charizard, DeDeDe, and Ridley are the only characters in smash that were not Playable originally in the series, but still appeared in every single game in the franchise. Correct me if I'm wrong if there are more!
The fact that Elec Man is not only a cut assist trophy but the only Mega Man 1 robot master to not have a remix in Ultimate will always make me scratch my head. I still perfer Guts Man
The reason why Weavile was cut was probably because of Zoroark. Zoroark was originally gonna be in Smash 4 but then Greninja got Omega popular so plans changed. Zoroark does the exact same thing as Weavile as a Pokeball
15:20 What's even weirder is that in Smash Run, Lakitu and the Spinies are actually 3D models for some reason. The Cuccos do a similar thing too where in Normal battles, they are 3D, but in Smash Run they are sprites. There are probably more cases of this, but these are the only ones I know.
The funny thing about Dark Samus as an assist had two OBVIOUS moves that could've been translated into a fighter moveset: The homing plasma for a neutral special and the spikes for a down smash.
I think even more than Elec Man's attack being basic, I think he was cut because he didn't have the same iconicness the other guest Assist Trophies had: * Grayfox: A recurring boss throughout the Solid game who grew to be popular with his unique design * Shadow and Knuckles: Rivals of Sonic who even got their own games * Ghosts: Literally the only other characters in the first PAC-MAN game, and one of the most famous examples of bedsheet ghosts * Guile: One of the playable characters who even got to star in the live-action movie. Extremely popular, his music is a meme. * Rodin: The shopkeeper you'll be visiting all the time. The most recurring ally throughout the entire franchise (since Jeanne and Luka start off on non-friendly terms and Enzo does very little) and the difficult bonus boss. * Alucard: The most recurring hero in the series and star of one of, if not the, most beloved game in the franchise. * Bomberman, Akira, Rathalos, and Shovel Knight: The main characters (or main mascot in Rathalos' case) of their series. Compare that to Elec Man, who is of no higher rank than the other robot masters, and he kind of just doesn't impact you as much. On the other hand, Dr. Wily is the main villain of the series and Zero is an extremely popular character who even got his own series. (also fun fact: Zero is the only Mega Man character to have voice acting in Smash)
Fun fact: Venusaur doesn't learn earthquake in gen 2 but it does in gen 3 onwards. Maybe the pokemon devs took the idea from smash after they made it use it for some reason
5:50 I mean I wouldn't consider earthquake a move that makes me think of Venusaur considering it's a grass type pokémon actually I grass and poison type pokémon but yeah I guess it works. Venusaur was in the first Super Smash Bros game on the N64 and I feel like you should have mentioned this. At saffron City there are pokémon that come out from that little doorway at the top of the Silph Co tower. Venusaur comes out from there and so does Charmander and Porygon and Clefairy and actually I think that was all of them
Koffing is in Smash Run and it does its old pokeball effect as an attack! Tingle appears in the Majora's Mask stage and Ho-Oh is also in the Kalos league.
I'd argue that Maril's functionality was more so given to Piplup and Oshawot. They both involve the Pokemon running straight in one direction, pushing anyone that gets in their way. Also of note, a few Poke Ball and Assist Trophies that were cut from the game they were planned for. * Melee - Ditto, who we all know was cut from Melee, but finally was implemented in Ultimate. * Melee - Ducks, yes, Assist Trophies were planned for Melee. The only one we know are the duck hunt ducks, which would have flown around in their classic pattern, hurting fighters. * Brawl - Ridley, files in Brawl show that Ridley was planned to be an Assist Trophy.
Some of these cut Pokémon were among my favorites to summon in past Smash games; Hitmonlee, Zapdos, and Weavile were great in 64, Melee, and Brawl. I also enjoyed Clefairy and her wild Metronome move, although I think that Togepi is more popular. Just a theory... As for Assist Trophies, the Excitebikers are cute. They can do a ton of damage. I don't understand why Lakitu or Kat and Ana gor cut though; Mario does have plenty of representation, but Lakitu in particular is a fun teammate with his Spinies. Oh well. Good stuff, Odyssey Central.
one thing I would love to see is Eevee upgrading from a PokeBall Pokemon to a playable fighter in the next Smash game similar to how Charizard did! it is practically Pokemon's second mascot by now so it'd make sense for it to be upgraded, possibly having a gimmick involving its Eeveelutions as well
I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure some Poke Ball mons were meant to replace others but not exactly. Specifically Latios/Latias replacing Beedrill/Unown but changing the attack style. Scizor replacing Hitmonlee but adding a dash. Oshawott/Piplup replacing Marill but adding water effect. Metagross replacing Venusaur but adding a bury.
9:08 says Ho-oh shouldn’t come back because it would be redundant having two fire birds. Two entries later: “I’d be alright with Torchic coming back.” Lol
Perhaps Magnus was cut to be put into smash ultimate, and they decided against having a 4th kid icarus character (he couldve been so cool though, his final smash couldve been him and Gaol tag teaming to kill the opponent)
Guys I’m sorry I pronounced Kyogre weird I never know what’s right so I always switch between pronunciations… You can unsubscribe now….. 💔💔

He would be a steel ghost type I think 🔥🔥🔥
Meowth was the only Pokémon to get cut as a Poké Ball character in Melee, then come back in another game as a Poké Ball character again.
one thing I would love to see is Eevee upgrading from a PokeBall Pokemon to a playable fighter in the next Smash game similar to how Charizard did!
it is practically Pokemon's second mascot by now so it'd make sense for it to be upgraded, possibly having a gimmick involving its Eeveelutions as well
I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure some Poke Ball mons were meant to replace others but not exactly.
Specifically
Latios/Latias replacing Beedrill/Unown but changing the attack style.
Scizor replacing Hitmonlee but adding a dash.
Oshawott/Piplup replacing Marill but adding water effect.
Metagross replacing Venusaur but adding a bury.
This is one of the funniest videos yet
9:08 says Ho-oh shouldn’t come back because it would be redundant having two fire birds. Two entries later: “I’d be alright with Torchic coming back.” Lol
Tears of the kingdom beat Majora's Mask. It's the end of a war.
3:09 I get why Clefairy was cut since Togepi already uses metronome. I think it is the Melee metronome.
At this point, we need Odyssey Central's brother to cameo in a video
17:48 This would have made for a sick Down-B for Dark Samus. Even just the one move difference like Roy/Chrom would have been nice.
you mean down smash not down sepcial
Thank you
I am honesty disappointed to see elec man be cut, I know there are already 2 assist trophies and a mii costume, but I just really like elec man
8:24 why is freddy fazbear in the background?
Your guess is as good as mine.
Totk is also my favorite zelda game
This video appeared in my “continue watching” section even though I never watched it before.
Good job youtube.
I swear you put the metal pipe sound at the first 2 seconds of the video
Honestly the most surprising thing about this video is the fact that Majore's Mask in not Odyssey Central favorite Zelda game anymore.
16:28 Do not get fooled by his appearance. Saki is a male, so refer to him as a guy instead of a girl.
My biggest gripe is that they use Goldeen instead of Magikarp for the Splash joke. Like that’s Magikarp’s 1 thing, it’s his whole identity
Perhaps Magnus was cut to be put into smash ultimate, and they decided against having a 4th kid icarus character (he couldve been so cool though, his final smash couldve been him and Gaol tag teaming to kill the opponent)
Hey odyssey central can you do spirits of every cuphead boss
5:50 “As Ivysaur became playable in brawl” (Shows Ivysaur in Ultimate footage as proof)
Babe wake up! Odyssey Central posted a new Smash video!
7:53 after all this time, an "erm acktually" actually happened! LESSGO
15:25 might be for classic reason
You should make a video on all the cut fighters such as Crash Bandicoot and Waluigi.
Koffing was also an enemy in smash run in smash 4 in which he uses the same move
Resetti my boi has to return. It’d be very funny.
