If you put it in the right spot, have it low enough, and clean it out from time to time, they can work fine.

    Good video.
I would like to make a suggestion for poor drainage in lawns. I had 4000 sq feet of lawn with red clay soil. It would turn rock hard when the soil dried and hold water too long. It also separated from my foundation in the summer, so I water to keep it expanded near the soil. I started spraying liquid molasses to the lawn bi-weekly, I applied dry molasses too every three months, but quit after a year. It was too messy. I would put the molasses in a hose end sprayer and just walk the yard. It caused the earthworms to come to my land and increase the soil life, The earthworms are after the bacteria and fungi. They create tunnels in the soil as far as 2-3 ft and my grass roots follow the tunnels. The lawn made significant changes over 6-7 months. My lawn became fluffy and felt like a pillow when people walk on it. They would say, "your lawn is so soft." Also I took a shovel and was able to slide it easily into the soil to check what happen below. I found the red clay changed to a dark clay loam with the roots down to about 13 inches. This was a water save in the summer. A another thing I noticed that when it rain the water quit standing and the lawn would absorb most of the water, but could get rid of it thru evaporation in a timely manner, I stop having grass disease too. I did see red clay approx 18 inches down, not on the surface as in the past. I had a lot of fire ants and white grubs. The fire ants can's stand the heavy micro activity, so they leave. My white grub count became a rare thing to see. There probably some other things, but I can't thing of it. I can't think of a con. I used medina liquid molasses from my feed store, but you can get it lowes, home depot, nurseries. The soil around the house doesn't separate anymore, even if I don't water for a while. you will noticed the need to water decreases too. I don't know how this work if you have a rock hardpan, but it should still make some difference in the soil.

Those catch basins were not installed correctly! Mine works works perfectly.

We see no water in yard! Something is working. Yard looks good. The drain inlets function as clean outs. All of the pipe is wrapped perforated hdpe, backfilled w sand, and also french drain section with rock. Do not assume "bad design", just because it was not done by you.

Looks to be bad installation more so than bad product.
