    On the barbed wire chainlink fence, I note in the later video you turned the fence around. I have often seen security fences with the barbed wire part into the street forming the overhang, and it is done because it is harder to climb an overhang. Particularly defence department security fences will have the overhang in the street, not into the property.

    One thing I would recommend, at 48:46 there is a path with the corner of the road, might be worth making a little short cut across the grass as you always see that, people never seem to really go around the path, they go straight across the corner which must save...all of about 2 seconds 😂😂. Beautiful layout though 👍

      Where I Live we call them "wish paths".

    • @scottfw7169
      @scottfw7169 5 лет назад +4

      Ah, now I know the name for those! And then playing in Google found they have several other names too, "When cities lack the paths pedestrians need, people vote with their feet
      We’ve all been there. You want a short cut - to the bus stop, office or corner shop - but there’s no designated path. Others before you have already flattened the grass, or cut a line through a hedge. Why not, you think.
      So goes the logic of “desire paths” - described by Robert Macfarlane as “paths & tracks made over time by the wishes & feet of walkers, especially those paths that run contrary to design or planning”; he calls them “free-will ways”. The New Yorker offers other names: “cow paths, pirate paths, social trails, kemonomichi (beast trails), chemins de l’âne (donkey paths), and Olifantenpad (elephant trails)”. JM Barrie described them as “Paths that have Made Themselves”.
      Reddit has desire path threads, tens of thousands of people strong, delighting in the more mysterious or illogical-seeming of them. They can form anywhere from apparently forgotten corners of cities to the grounds of national governments, as has happened around the National Congress of Brazil; some are so well established that they are visible on Google Maps."
      From: Desire paths: the illicit trails that defy the urban planners, by Ellie Violet Bramley, in The Guardian on, Fri 5 Oct 2018

    Wonderful, I did laugh at the Granada. Being a child of the 70s/80s it wasn't a proper cortina or granada if it didn't have at least one panel in a different colour.

    Think the embankment looks so lifelike especially with the bare patches of earth showing through. Considering it is on the side of the railway, years ago in the steam era some of this grass would have caught fire in dry spells with sparks coming from the steam engines. As they thunder past. Whole video makes one want to copy every idea that you’ve shown us. Many thanks. Frank Hughes.

    While talking canals, will say that I've been following a few RUclips channels done by various folks who live aboard their narrowboats. Some are continuous cruisers, some have more or less permanent moorings. It is an interesting lifestyle. And the histories of canals and railways in UK are deeply entangled.

    What impresses me most is your ability to visualise what you are you going to build ahead of doing so. I've always heard 'less is more' with railway modelling and the way you have created a detailed yet uncluttered scene with the car yard is very good indeed. Always enjoy the videos, thanks for doing them.

    The layout was great to start with Richard but now it really comes to life with the scenery. You have such a great eye for detail and execute it brilliantly. I have to say that, I do agree with some of the other comments regarding the railway security fence, certainly in the South the fence is almost always at the bottom of the bank. Lost so many footballs as a kid after it went over the fence!! Thanks again for a simply brilliant update.

    When the time comes no British canal would be complete without a shopping trolley or two!
    Brilliant video, the filmed angles shown at the end with the grass and fencing have it looking incredibly authentic.
    If you make a toilet block out of that building; which would indicate a fairly prevalent public footfall along the side of the canal, having a burger or ice cream van on the end of the industrial road seems a natural fitting, double so when in proximity to the car auction lot.

    You know, this is a perfect example why I admire the Brits, (please I beg your pardon if that term is unacceptable to you, I Truly Love England and would never intentionally say something that would offend), because you Sir, are wonderfully talented in what you do. I only just yesterday discovered your site and have spent the entire night getting caught up to this point. I myself own BlueStar Constrution Company here in the states and I apperciate and even admire your insights and your imagination. Because of you and this site I will be building a layout that will go through every room in my house. (I am 58 and have an offer from another company to buy my business which will put me in the postion to retire early and thankfully not having to worry about money again making this decision an easy one.) I also would like to donate money to your project. As soon as this sale goes through I will be able to do just that. Anyway, I hope from time to time I can ask questions. I have great respect for you and what you have accomplished! Well Done Sir, very Well Done Indeed! Your American friend, Joseph
