Thanks, I think I can now successfully do this and I appreciate that you showed how to get at that back bracket bolt. Not sure which side is leaking but the dealer wanted $1749 for both gaskets and the local diesel engine shop wanted $1050. I can do this in an afternoon. My Touareg is a 2016 TDI. Appreciate the time you took to do this.
Mike thanks for your video I had to do mine on 2013 crca engine some minor differences I struggled for hours trying to get that rear torx30 bolt off loom bracket at rear of engine with tools I had gave up then had a light bulb moment got access underneath and was able to remove in2 mins just a suggestion and able to reinstall in 5 mins cheers Mater
I really appreciate this and your technique is very clear and clean. Very well done and professional. The only thing Im doing differently is bending that back bracket out the way.
Well done Mike. Liked the tips on the stubborn bracket fastener. I feel the same way, if it was on there from the factory it’s got to go back in. Like that blue point set. Have to keep an eye out for that one. Merry Christmas. 🎄
Thanks for this. Knocked it out in 3 hours start to finish with a big portion of it being that rear bolt. Would have taken me longer playing with it without the video. Only had to sacrifice that T30 when I dropped it in the bay after tightening that bolt up. I'll buy another and hope I find it at the next oil change.
It's an amazing video, pretty straight forward. Thanks a lot. What can we use instead of the sil glyde grease? Can I use a cooper grease or white lithium grease, which one would be a better option to lubricate those fuel injector o rings? Cheers
The next lubricant I would suggest is dielectric grease which is quite similar to Sil-Glyde. If you don't have that then a little lithium grease or even engine oil. Mainly you just don't want to install them dry as the o-ring can catch and either tear or roll during installation. Thank you for taking the time you watch. Mike
Mike, excellent video, my Q7 3.0 TDI is in the shop right now and the shop reports I have two leaking valve cover gaskets (oil filter housing and crank seal have already been replaced as part of this journey). About how many hours did you spend on this job?
Thank you. I can't remember off the top of my head exactly how long it took. I did it on a Saturday and remember finishing up mid-afternoon but it also took me a bit longer due to recording it. Thanks for watching. I'm glad you enjoyed it Mike
Those are a small plastic fitting that goes into the injector. If memory serves the center pulls up which releases the fitting and allows it to pull out of the injector. Thanks for taking the time to watch and for the comments. Hope the video was helpful. Mike
Sorry I can't remember if I showed a detail of that or not. The center part of the return line coupler pulls up which releases the seal around the small barb on the injector and then the return line can be removed from the injector. Thanks for watching. Mike
Hey Mike It's Joel Nowland from our old ward in West Point. I have an of topic question. Where would be a good place best prices for some 1018 - cold rolled plate. Bowman Kemp only has hot rolled plate. I need 10 feet - two 48" x 9" x 1/2" and one 24" length cold rolled plate. Thanks
Hey Joel. Hope all is well with you and your family. For large pieces of cold rolled I usually purchase it from Richard's Sheet Metal in Ogden. For smaller pieces I order it from McMaster Carr. They're great and it's usually on my doorstep within 2-days. Mike
I wouldn't say a lot worse, but I think it would require a bit more time as the steering and a few other components will make accessibility a bit more cumbersome.
@@zmotorsports62 Well shoot hopefully I can get it done I did the full exhaust on this vehicle removing all the emissions systems so I hope thats more or so as complicated as this haha. I noticed I will need to remove the throttle body for sure for the front bolts.

Really Really great video, thank you! I have a tar like substance leaking from the right hand rocker cover, (1st injector only) should I take the injector out first and try replacing the O ring on said injector before attempting to replace gaskets, covers etc?
It's hard to say but look closely around the perimeter of the valve cover. If it's got oil around it at all I'd just plan on doing both otherwise you'll be back doing it again. Thanks for taking the time to watch. Mike
@zmotorsports62 I suppose doing the cheaper "fix" first would be best, just to see, there's oil all round and it's blowing at idle, like you said it should in the video, to me it looks like an O ring has failed and is spitting out that tar like substance!
