Without spoiling anything, Basil is one of the more tragic characters in this game when you think about it. So many small details inform you on how he actually feels.
None of them deserved the pain they endured. Mari wouldn't have wanted basil to be such a broken mess left alone. Sunny to basically shut himself off from everything and kill himself slowly by depriving himself of eating to the point of malnutrition. Aubrey becoming so riddled with hurt that lead her to lash out at everyone. Hero becoming a depressed mess. And kel left by himself trying to fix everything. Mari would've wanted sunny and basil to forgive themselves. She would want all of them to continue with their lives instead of slowly driving into a downward spiral.
Basil had no world to run to from the cruel reality. For 4 years he was depressed, lived with terrible memories of mari's death and guilt for hanging her. He had no friends for 4 years, was bullied for 4 years by the person that he was friend with before, and had only seen his parents, when the came for a while only to leave their son again soon, because they don't give a damn about Basil. The only person, who loved him was grandma, and what eventually happened to her? That really hurts, no wonder why Basil came to the point of thinking about suicide.
By the way, in OMORI, parents are kind of fucked up. Aubrey's mom doesn't care about anything and leada a hopeless lifestyle. Basil's parents also don't actually care about their son. Sunny's parents? His dad couldn't forgive his son for the accident and left his family hanging. Mom? Well, she didn't know what to do, how to talk to sunny, she was confused after the death of Mari and being left by husband, and I can't blame her. The only loyal and kind of supporting parents are Kel's and Hero's. Poor kids...
This song feels like Basil. A timid happy tune that gives you a false sense of security. Basil also tells himself a lie. That Sunny is an angel who needs to protected. Except that’s a lie. It’s all a lie.

Daisies were never mentioned in Basil's garden but I believe this song has the word daisy in the title because daisies are supposed to be symbols of innocence and purity. However, when this song is played in the game, it seems to be used to show the loss of innocence as the innocent basil Omori wishes to hold on to starts to slowly slip away and transform into the someone (basil) Omori doesn't want to face.
Basil is my favorite character in the game. I love his personality and design, and in the real world he really highlights the change well, along with Aubrey. The weight he had to carry is so tragic. You can see how his character and it’s art has changed between the dream and real life version. In the dream his smile is carefree and happy, in real life you can see the twinge of pain and sadness in his fake smile. And he’s so awkward and uncomfortable, which makes plenty of sense given what happened. This song especially fits him so well.

It is amazing. The game spent its entire play time on Sunny route showed you that Sunny cannot truly reject the reality and keeps living in his own fantasy, because he has always known the truth. The dream world he created, as wonderful as it is, is always in a blink of destruction once his memory resurface. In order to maintain it; Omori, and by extension, Sunny himself, has been tirelessly combating and erasing any trance of the truth. Despite everything, Sunny never really forgets it. Somethings and the strangers will always exist and keep creeping into his safe heaven. Sooner or later, he will have to leave the safe space he created and face the horrible truth head-on. In such a brutally realistic fashion that it can lead him to commit suicide or retreat into his headspace further. Now after gaining strength and supports from his friends, Sunny can see that Basil too, is living in denial and rejecting reality, to the extent of being worse than Sunny himself. Basil, effectively, has become a mirror, a similar demon need to be overcome in order to survive.
Did anyone realize the fact that in the headspace, every character is dressed in their pyjama, except for Mari. I realized it just now and it's kinda unsettling and foreshadowing that Mari is already dead

I have to keep reminding myself that the premise of this game is so unrealistic it's highly unlikely something similar will ever happen in the real world. I mean, sane people would probably go and call for help right? *but they were never sane to begin with. shattered souls thrown into this world of hurt. its not all sunshine and rainbows, and it never was. life is bad, and it always will be. people hurt and people hurt. the best anyone can do is keep smiling, even when you think everything will collapse around you, things will get better. move on, if not for your sake, then for the people who love you*

Spoilers I always feel so calm while listening to this. It's one of my favorite OSTs from the game. When I first listened to it I thought "Reminds me of Basil''. Because it really suits him. Some grief, anxiety and nostalgy mixed with calm and happy melody and all this covered with a beautiful name. I have seen many people hating on Basil but I cannot not sympathize with him. He just wanted to save his friend because he didn't want to lose him. I mean imagine the shock he felt when he saw THIS. They both just panicked and hanging Mari was the first thing that came to his mind(even though I still think telling the truth from the beginning would be the best option) Sometimes I just sit and wonder what if they just called Sunny's parents and told them what truly happened. I mean maybe if they had brought her to the hospital there would be a chance to save her?
