This film deserved the 11 Oscars coz of all the dedication & sheer effort that went into it. James Cameron had a vision & the rest is history. Suffice to say that the Titanic memory will surpass all of us.

Movie set and ship was constructed in Rosarito, Baja California. Mexico. Started crossing back and forth in 2017 and have visited the beach next to the studios and see ships/boats from Pirates of The Caribbean. No Titanic though, since it was removed more then a decade ago
I used to travel there from SoCal every July and would see it every time we drove by. Wish I understood then just how cool it was to be able to see the actual ship used in the movie

They actually made two big models like that. One was for destruction and use and the other was for photography used for CGI, etc. You can visit James Cameron's museum where he has the giant scale model on display.

If the titanic went right in the middle and through the ice it would of broke the iceberg in half but they decided to try to avoid it but made it hit the side which caused the disaster.
that wouldn't be a good idea. the iceberg isn't as small as we think. only 1/3 is seen outside. plus with that speed and the sheer size of the ship, survival would be difficult
We live close to where it was filmed, sadly they closed the studios and destroyed everything. But you could go take a tour and see the movie set, I never went but I was told it was really cool. And I use to see the movie set from a far.
