Japanese MMOs are a lot more grind heavy than US MMOs due to how they were raised on games, a lot of FF and Dragons Quests and both rpgs are insanely grind heavy, it's what they enjoy ( ff14 not included ) I have a feeling a lot of the 'Tales Of' people will love this game and keep it alive let alone popular.
@@cyanmage1 It will be, the game is a Genshin MMO lol.
I've played every tales of game from namcobandai and I can tell you the gameplay and battle is not even remotely close to any of the tales game lol. Even the visuals and certain aspects look more like that online Ni no Kuni game.
because people enjoy doing simple, but fun things e.g. killing mobs
If the combat is fun, that should be the main thing. I don't care about fancy stories, it's an MMO, I will create my own story in my own head.
Most current western MMOs are just boring theme parks.

The timing on the WoW combat segment was perfect.
Right! And at that very same moment Asmon complains about “auto-attacking” in Blue Protocol! Like dude! You play WoW how are you upset at auto attacking in an MMORPG?

@@camfreed9829 correct, since you think the autoattacks here are comparable, I've still got my account and my achievements dated.

By far
I have never played it. It’s like the only mmo I havent tried. Is it good?
@@nointro It's certainly become my favorite mmo and it's criminally underrated. I'm saying this after 16yrs of wow and 2k+ hrs of ff14. So many things it does better.
@@triple1 any examples? I don’t like ff14 despite everyone saying it’s great… I’m bored and it feels like I’m just teleporting around to have different conversations. No meaningful gameplay. And I played wow for about as long as you. Also tired of it.
@@nointro Not gonna speak much about wow and ff then because you already played them. FF14 has a special place for me but I get it, it's a very story focused game and gameplay is mostly focused on boss encounters later on.
Now about gw2 I'll try to keep it short and write about main points;
- There are many ways to get bis items, not just raids or mythic dungeons. Achivements, Open world dynamic events, mythic dungeons (fractals), different map currency vendors, crafting, raids, pvp, open world pvp (which is set in another continent basically (wvw pvp))
- Jumping puzzles can be insane, because the terrain can be much more complex and detailed compared to other mmos.
- Mounts (imagine dragonriding but, there are different type of mounts that have different movement abilities and speed that can help you traverse the world, do quests, find hidden stuff etc. )
- Achivement system is very deep and complicated and directly can contribute as gold or items depending on which ones. imagine trading post x 1000 in WoW. It's deeply tied with legendary crafting too.
- Combat feels GOOD, with mixture of dodge mechanics and tab targeting.
- The world feels alive full of people, wherever you go, even in old maps. Unlike Azeroth.
- No subscription (although I find myself spending more on unnecessary cosmetics now)
- Every activity you do is rewarding in some way, you don't feel like you've wasted your time. (unlike dailies in wow)
- Horizontal progression has become my favorite system. Your items will not get invalidated by another patch or expansion. And gearing full bis set is NOT casual at all :)
If you do decide to try it, just imagine the free base game is a tutorial and the real endgame starts with the expansions. There is a quality leap between the base game and expansions imo. Hope that helps.
Looks absolutely stunning! I'm blown away by the stylized graphics and the attention to detail in the world design. The trailer gave us just enough of a taste to leave me hungry for more. I can't wait to see what kind of classes and abilities we'll be able to play with. Knowing how much care and effort the developers are putting into this game has me feeling really optimistic about what's to come.
This gives me a mox sensation like TERA and Genshin mixed together. Sadly the monetization and slow cut on the end game killed Tera. It was such a nice mix of combat with active combo, dodge-parry mechanic with body covering from tanks or others. And yeah sexy too. Sad to see Tera died, hope this is not the case.
3:49 Perfect World Online, released way back in 2006. You could even pick up and carry another player around(bride crossing the threshold style) and if you bought a mount with a second seat, you could sit them in the second seat xD

Never thought Klay Thompson would be telling about MMOs
Big aspect a lot of mmos do bad is not letting the world grow with you. Often you speed run each zone. This gets more apparent the longer a mmo is out. One thing that makes older mmos great is how much time you spent in each zone and growing with the map actually understanding it and appreciating it.
I domt know new world does a pretty decent job. I really don't want to leave each zone 😂
Imagine how much of the world of Everquest 1 is ignored after 15+ expansion packs, it's sad
I actually think that's an issue indirectly caused by Asmongold aah players, look good combat IS important but because so much energy is spend on making it, the rest of the game is ignored so it's not a surprise so many mmos players demand more end gamr content and rush through early game. People basically just want to play this GamePlay with something tough
I honestly forgot about blue protocol till this popped up in my reccomended, might look back into it
The real problem is that people get burnt out on games before they even come out, and a long release window just exacerbates it

I just want to play an MMO that is as good as ArcheAge was in Alpha-3.0
ArcheAge was hands down the BEST MMO ever created up to this point. There’s a reason why it inspired Steven to make Ashes of Creation. It’s PVP 10/10, Naval System 10/10, World Bosses 10/10, Trade Pack system 10/10, Interesting Class System 10/10, Guilds being such a huge fun social part of the game 10/10, Gliders 😎 10/10.
ArcheAge literally would have been the next WoW if it wasn’t for Trion’s shitty management and monetization of the game.
After 3.0 the game became a hollow shell of its former glory.
Such a waste of potential..... 😢

The very and only MMO that I've felt like that was Guild Wars 2. It was a very odd game at beginning, but after you discover the huge Quality of Life mechanics, you can't go back.
My opinion on "Pay to win X Subscription" as Asmon said:
A subscription does give you more advantages and some convenience, may be considered P2W, but is kinda limited in a way that you get only a certain amount of "convenience" or P2W material in a month/week/year.
A true P2W system lets you keep shoving money into the game in return for more and more things, in a way that if you had infinite money you could go get everything in the game right here and now.

I hope you get help soon
I can't wait for the blue protocol stories about players whose online gf is a basement dweller and theyve been holding hands in game for months 10/10 gaming experience unironically.
The best combat system I've ever experienced was in Wildstar. For me what ruins the fun in other MMOs is animation lock, global cooldowns, tab targeting, lack of telegraphing (and missing your target), base miss %, and over-reliance on UI elements (or addons) to maximize DPS.
nice telegraphs TERRIBLE white-damage in that the effects would literally chase you around until they hit you. an anemy would litterally swing a sword and if you dodged away before the animation completed a white "spark" would chase you around like a damned cartoon projectile until it landed the damage.
plus it only had 8 abilities so the combat felt so damned tedious once you found your preferred spec, i had similar issues with guild wars for the same reason as that was another 8-button game (ok 1, heal, dodge, 5 weapon 3 misc-class-spells 1 ult)
Then you should try playing dcuo it has the best combat system I've ever played. You can do what the games player base calls clipping. Which is essentially clipping the animations short for increased dps. Just as a sample look-up, gadgets might dps dcuo on youtube to sample the combat. You can also clip in support roles for faster healing or to negate more dmg as a tank. Certain powers can be clipped by other powers (you have to figure out what works for each powerset), trinkets clip also, or by using your weapon and clipping the weapons animation with powers. Each powerset works differently, so you need to figure out what works when it comes to dpses that use their powers, but for weapon dpses, there's a clear cut meta, which is kind of copy and paste which everyone uses. It has very good combat mechanics where you have to block certain attacks to survive, but be careful cause if you try to block the wrong type of attack, you can be block broken. You also have attacks you must dodge by rolling away. It's an old game that is supposed to be getting a graphical overhaul, but the combat keeps people coming back even to this day. Check it out. Tell me what you think.
i play another mmo that lets you hold hands and its was so OP that the devs had to remove some "functions", some skills share effect bewteen players and it was so OP( the healer was invisible if it hold hands with rogue class), the mmo i speak ir ragnarok mobile
Now i just need time that respects MMOs
MMORPG games have always been about obtaining low RNG items and grinding for them. Asking them to increase RNG rates for high value/rare items is dumb tbh. And then people will complain there’s no endgame and that it’s too easy...
All in all. Solution. Increase RNG for low value quest items and keep RNG low for high value/rare items
i'll never understand why mmos have never adopted an ARPG Loot system. If you make an MMO with a gear system with crafting like in PoE and action combat you have an absolute banger of an MMORPG
they... did not have the technology at the time
@@GameMa5Ter2O01 new world, destiny, hell even WoW could adopt this system if they really tried. Nobody seems to want to adopt it. Combine runescape, ARPG system + Modern MMO Technology. WIN

Minor thing: I would like it if the auto sync when dancing in groups had randomized ranges of delay between group members so that it feels less robotic. Not important at all but still, little things like that just make for an overall better sense of polish.
Then it wouldn't be auto sync
A very slight desync to make it feel more like a bunch of random people got together to dance would be fun.

the gathering or mob farming for asian MMOs are the heart of it. That's why Ragnarok was so successful back in the day and until now people are still playing it. the gathering helps you with the grind and the difficulty of some mobs kind of "forced" you to rely on other players, therefore, making you socialize and interact with other people. that's why i didn't like some newer MMOs because you can just solo everything and everything gets to feel like a routine in some instances.
the downside of this is that in social communities, cliques are bound to be formed, it could be through guilds or permanent parties, and as a solo player, this can be a bit hard. especially when the guilds "require" you to be online almost 24/7, it's so annoying when i see guilds like that and they kick you for being inactive for just a few days.
i just hope that the progression and equipment farming won't have a big wall between old and new players. BDO is great, but this big wall of playtime is such a big problem for newer players. regardless of how much you pay or farm, older players will always have the edge and it's so hard to catch up especially when, like BDO, everything gets so dull (to me at least) after a long time. the guild wars are fun and it gives life to the game, but again, so much guilds kick you out after just a few days of you being offline.
i hope they implement a great pvp system just like how Ragnarok did it. they had solo pvp, royal rumbles, and the top player is always displayed in the website. BDO didn't have that much great pvp events and my old guild before we disbanded, we held pvp events in our guild a lot.
I don't get it. Is there really still a huge demographic of players that enjoy grinding their entire day everyday for that 0.000001% of progress that developers are still being incentivized to design their games this slow in progression?
Yea its called all of Asia. Go play any KR MMO and you will see what I mean, most JP ones as well outside FFXIV.
Lil bro didn't get to play Ragnarok online 😭 that's so sad
@@bullettime1116 to be fair we literally have a condition, it's why we're very much a minority in the mmo scene
@@JathraDH "outside of FFXIV"... I drifted away from FFXIV in part because of the gear treadmill. The tombstone system is a slightly less rigid daily task checklist on top of a weekly time gate... Near the end it felt little different to me than earning summons in a gotcha game. The daily tombstone bonuses should just be the normal rewards, it's already weekly capped anyway, don't make it a daily task... Yeah sure you could technically grind it out in one day as is, but a lot more time than doing the daily bonuses.
Before I stopped playing I was largely just buying gear off the MB even though it wasn't best in slot or even max ilvl and accidentally getting tombstones whenever I ran dungeons with friends rather than trying to cap them each week. If I get back into it again I'll probably try and finish leveling my crafter jobs and make my own gear rather than grinding tombstones. Seems potentially more satisfy than running 1 of 2 dungeons at random each day, every day just to tick off a daily bonus checkbox, and I could sell stuff or make stuff for friends, vs the tombstones grind being purely your own gear that can't be sold or benefit your friends.
Good point. The only kr mmo I've managed to reach "endgame" on was BDO and once I learned how the gearing progression there worked, I basically noped out of there as soon as I hit a hard wall on story quests that I could take. Learning through research that Lost Ark more or less ran with the same template instantly killed any interest I had in playing it but it did make me curious if every other kr mmos ALSO used the same philosophy of RNG upgrades.
My biggest concern is Amazon censoring stuff, changing things, race swapping characters, etc.
I always find it interesting when people complain about how long or short it takes to progress in an mmo or I guess any live service like game. Worried that they will run out of content or something. Like bro just play a different game for the time being it will be okay, you'll be alright. When they add something new jump back in, complete it and come back later. People really want to play just one game their whole lives. No thanks lol.

The problem with combat is that melee spams evade to get into attack range or to dodge. Action combat can be cool, but it has to be done right and making melee not be able to keep their chain up while the boss does his 10th "get away from me" attack within 10 seconds is not good design.
4:44 thats a DotA health bar huh
i have grinded the infinite hp and mana pot in bdo as well as the compass and leveled in cabal and martial heroes. gimme the grind!
they shouldn't reduce the cooldowns, they should make the skills more powerful to give them value for their cooldown so you can feel that the skill you used actually mattered.
Fuck no, long cooldows is one of the worst things any game can do.
@@Kyle81290 not at all, i'd rather 1-hit a boss doing massive damage for a 1-hour cooldown than spam-clicking skills that barely does any damage. wtf
besides, if you think 18s is too long, they could add chain-skills like they had in Tera, where using one skill reduces the cooldown and increases animation speed of another skill... then all of a sudden you have a minigame of mechanics to learn too. now that would be an interesting blend...

In my opinion any game with vertical progression that resets with new updates doesn't respect your time.
Man I've been waiting for Blue Protocol for three years. Lets go!
I personally like how Genshin manages to be f2p while making $4 billion usd annually via making the gacha characters so attractive that people would just pull for them even if the game only requires you 4 characters fully built to progress through the game (also 100% all the hardest content), since majority of the players love collecting characters regardless of whether they needed them for anything or not since B tier characters in the meta tier list is enough to beat the game; Genshin's an easy casual game where your 5* gear/artifact sets carry you more than owning a 5 unit.
BP has that progression paywall, players can progress exponentially faster than the rest of f2p because they can unlock advanced quest earlier than them, so it's definitely going to be p2w even if the devs expected it to be f2p.
That's what I also like about Genshin, nothing to force you to play everyday, just play the game when you have free time 👍
The mobs attacking you when You didn't reminds me of FFXI mob trains! They wont leave you alone until you either exit the map or get into towns. I miss stuff like that, makes you being careful!

Also, I'm sorry, paying for cosmetics in MMO's to have really cool or nice looking armor is also a huge red-flag. I don't care that it's "cosmetic", in MMO's the entire point is earning your gear and having said gear shows what you've accomplished and/or your time spent in the game, etc. It's also important in PVP to be able to understand/spot what gear or level another player is at from a distance. All of these mechanics add up to an important social system that indirectly and directly changes how the player interacts with others and the world. This is why I do NOT like transmog systems either, it takes away from all of those important elements.
If anything is tradeable, then it would be a matter of how many people can you get to farm an area over and over, then trade the "rare" drop between all the guildies.
Idk about others but ive always wanted a fun, but functional grind guild.
Most of the time guilds like this are "hacker" guilds or guilds that exploit, because its easy and literally game changing.

subscription based mmos are worth it just to solve the bot problem alone
also it ensures stable income for the developer and publisher so they aren't forced as often by execs to incorporate predatory microtransactions
@@cattysplat to be fair subscription models are a very good remedy for the problem of bots, but it isn't a complete solution
I've just seen - when comparing MMOs that are subscription based as opposed to F2P - that the botting issue isn't nearly as bad
even in more recent MMOs like Lost Ark economies get destroyed in 1-2 months once players nail down the grind patterns enough to automate them
the permanent solution would be likely initial game design related in having numerous human verification checks seamlessly interwoven into the gameplay
im just here because i wanted to say: thank you asmon for giving me access to your great content i hope you will live a long life stay healthy i would love to see you as an old man while watching as an old man
wholesome
its a miracle this dude even reached 30s
A bit sad that us in SEA are always marginalized during releases of games like these.
Me who played a MMO that took 18 months to reach level 50 ,
Every one else : it’s too grinding to get to 50 in a few weeks 🙄
lmao, sad for you
It's mainly the western audience / playerbase that complains lol. Asian MMOs are more grindy but that is how the culture is.
@@skychen5476 asian mmo that region blocks most of asia sadge
@@mementomori-6666 Actually so true lol
Now compare this game combat with ashes of creation combat so far, AOC is doomed if they don’t improve combat
i want a soulslike mmorpg
That would be dope
Well, that aged poorly.
indeed, and also amazon games going around censoring everything going as far as removing the small woman option and calling it body type a and b now, and making it more "diverse" is.. lol... also the grind they added is also a big oof... ill wait for when people make private servers in 7 years over this trash.
What he said at the end of the video is so true. Most people take MMOs too seriously and are nothing but small cry babies. 😁
Coming from Asmon, that's hilarious. Go watch any of his Warcraft content. Dude breeds a community of complainers
bruh its because we are sick of mmo pretending to be something its not. Bring back the hardcore mmo where you actually gotta grind months to get a "PIECE OF GEAR." Most mmos nowadays are cash grab pay to win and then dies after a year or two. Make mmos where freaking noobs are scared to venture out unless they meticulously plan stuff out and get correct gears or they would die. And please bring back death where you lose a week of experience after one death. Games of the past was massively fun because of its difficulty level. Now they cater to spoiled kids who want it easy in life. Give us that game where we have no life AGAIN!
@@bobjohnson6131 that won't happen if a game's not for the casuals it's basically abandoned and ignored (or simply not made) anymore. every time there's bene even a hint that a game may have some good group based play or need a level of organisation it's dumbed down to the point it becomes yet another WoW/diablo/Phantasy-Star-Online clone. Or worse a mobile/multiplatform game that end up ruining it's control scheme and UI to work on touchscreen/controller (e.g. elite dangerous, DC:UO).

This is why tanks tend to be the most engaging role in mmos. Especially so in games with a holy trinity
those social interaction mechanics are incentive enough to sink a year into the game assuming the P2W is capped
the thing is if devs always listen to people the game gets worse, they have to filter to what they will listen, cause everyone know a lot of players will cry about something ridiculous cause they're bad as heck and dont know the basics and if they listen to that the game will get worse, cause the thing is who will be your playerbase and I mean your real playerbase is the real thing you need to know, otherwise you change the game to reach someone that will not give a lot of time to your game and the people that where gonna give a lot of time will leave cause the game doesnt fit their needs anymore
I’m so excited for this game, as a Genshin enjoyer. I hate ToF but I still play it occasionally because I want that open world. I’m “done” with FF14 (for now). I quit WoW a while ago. I need something to take my free time that is not a pay to win hell. I am on the verge of breaking my f2p. Just release in NA please :(
1:19 Dear god.
1:20 DEAR GOD!
Finally a game with HUGE budget!
Mmo that respects ur time is like saying apple is an orange
I've played countless KR, JP, and CN games. Trust me, this one will be hugely p2w and require enormous grind. They can say whatever they want. Sure, it's a technically very well done game. But if you don't spend hundreds in these games, you'll lag so far behind you won't be viable for groups and at that point you're wasting your time.
meanwhile i want to try this game because it looks very similar to dragon nest in terms of gameplay
i believe not much people play that game before but that game was pretty good
Pretty sure there are over 400 hours of One Piece episodes- not including movies, games or the manga (which is uncensoree compared to the anime, which censors some crucial content for proper perspective of situations)
I'm super excited for BP can't wait I built a new PC to be able to play it with friends and meet new people :)
Starring at loading screens for too long is like watching paint dry! That would be my comparison.
Another " Next gen Non-P2W ground breaking WOW/Diablo killer " video number 20. Keep them coming, this is definitely the one, I'm certain of it.
Ironically WoW kind of killed itself. It's not dead, but it's not really king anymore. I think the days where a game like WoW dominates like that are over.
Oh, and PoE was the Diablo killer. Then Diablo killed Diablo. Then Lost Ark killed Diablo. Ot just isn't the franchise it was anymore. But it ain't dead.
Another one for AGS to kill before release.
2:50 , took me 42 days to complete 1056 one piece episodes.
It was nightmare but i had to understand why people consider it the best
Loading screens = not a real open world MMO, its an instanced mmo.
dont let the loading screens ruin your game bandai namco
If your in a guild or an adventurer your common quest is gathering quest its more often in low lvl, its common quest on anime that have adventurer guild
asmon looks much better short haired
@@SmokeWiseGanja oh I didn't know that. still looks far better than his regular look
idk how hard it would be to make an mmo with invisible loading screens but it wouldn't remove the immersion
I'd play WoW classic reforged in this style
it wont take that long once you get hooked on the story. One Piece
I was unaware of this MMO before seeing this video. I have now added it to my Wishlist. Thank you.
What is the name of the mmo?
@@zacharyfitterer5154 watch the video dude
@PaistyM well I am sorry I can't properly spell because of the cc just not telling which is which but ty for being really nice 😊
@@zacharyfitterer5154 Blue Protocol
the whole P2W exception: It's literally like BDO in that side. It's P2W 100% but at the same time it's something someone with lined pockets can just "ok i want this gear so ima just- *enters card info* *clicks max level*
