Absolutely the only solution to "there's always on body bit not covered by that blanket" is "wear the blanket" All the bonus points for making it look so stylish (what? I'm not going to check your seams; and if it hold together, it's perfectly done).
I was thinking about making a robe a la francais with some Halloween flannel that I found but I thought it would look off, but seeing your video encouraged me to make it to have my big cozy robe/blanket to look so extra, but also being comfortable. Great video.♡
"Everyone has more ideas than time to execute them." Thank you! This describes me exactly. My current plan is to make a somewhat historically accurate Viking/generic medical costume. I am almost done sewing a tunic, and I am not sure what to do after that. Also, this sounds like a fun thing to make, when I have time from all of my other projects.
Beautiful, love the way it moves. You remind me of my daughter, her house looks like a blanket factory exploded; I think she would love something like this. Take care, be well
100% feel you on the “too many ideas not enough time” agony- but also, as someone who researches the environmental and social impacts of the fashion industry for a living I appreciate the thoughtful acknowledgement and communication of the choices we make as makers and the impact that has on people and the planet. Hooray for snake tattoo blankets, and hooray for extending the usefulness of the resources used to make them!
I also want an unnecessarily cool robe for lazing around the house! Sadly the temperatures went up again just as I changed my summer for my winter bedding and I got to submit my thesis in less than a month :/ oh well, maybe I‘ll manage a spooky winter one in time for winter solstice
Yay! Spooky season. Not that some of my local shops haven't put out Christmas stuff on shelves before the Halloween stuff. I would like to join the war on Christmas on the side of Halloween. Anyway, this Halloween will be special this year because it will be almost exactly six months after I started HRT.
YAY! WELCOME TO THE DARKSIDE! I NEVER use the blade on my overlocker! I run everything I sew through the serger before I sew it, finishing the seam edges before the seams are ever sewn. And with the blade disabled, no worries about accidentally making anything too small. Love the robe!
All you have to do is flash an image of you in the Micky costume and I erupt into laughter. Lovely way to start a Sunday... thank you. A Banyon blanket dressing gown sounds like the solution to (some) of my problems. Yours is brilliant. Enjoy. It's good to know that overlockers have an option to sew without cutting. I'm determined never again to buy a sewing machine, but I occasionally get tempted by the grizzled overlockers that show up at the thrift shop. _Tip_ - A walking foot seems to be the solution to the feed dogs doing too good a job with a tricky fabric. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Happy thanksgiving Cathy! Hope you have a great weekend with lots of friends, family and good food! Turkey’s in the over, potatoes and veg are prepped waiting. Friends are on their way! Godson is coming so it’s a big turkey! It’s a busy weekend for us as the grandson is turning 10 tomorrow!! I’ve asked him to stop growing up but he’s refusing!
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 Kids never want to stop growing. Le sigh. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Sounds like it's going to be a fantastic evening. Enjoy! It's fantastic you can fit a large group of people around the table. Well done. We're taking a quiet weekend and spending it mostly cleaning. The owner of our building wants to do his yearly inspection thing. Honestly, after everything that went on this summer it's the kick in the patootie that we need... winter is coming and it's time to dust...
@@stevezytveld6585 quiet weekends are always nice. Not that dusting is fun but I guess it has to get done too. It’s fun to see the godkids. Like my kids they grew up and got lives so we don’t get to see them as often anymore.
@@robintheparttimesewer6798 Tell me about it... our two Godkiddo's are now or are about to be 17. One just started CJEP, the other is in her final year of highschool. I keep telling them I don't approve of either of them being over the age of four, but there you have it...
@@stevezytveld6585 yeah my great niece and nephew are getting so grown. One is in the last year of high school the other is in his first year of college. I told them I really wasn’t old enough to have greats that old
The drape on that is glorious! It hangs perfectly in the back. The temperature around here dropped about 30 degrees F in the last few days, so this project is very tempting.
Ahhh.... disengaging the overlocker knife! I had a similar "oh my efff this is awesome!" reaction myself when I found out, while troubleshooting another issue, without a manual for my specific machine. (The lack of an existing manual - even online) WAS the reason it was gifted to me for free... but yeah... it's a game changer! Similarly. Instead of having to weave the tails in, learning that I could lock the stitches, with the machine, by turning the fabric around and running back over them. Whoa! Takes some planning and practice. I chewed up a bunch little off cuts getting decent at it. And I wouldn't have bothered trying on a huge floppy item like this with only a few tails. But when I was doing a huge run of small pieces... I was so glad I had found that option!
Completely fabulous AND cozy! The only thing that would be missing for me is pockets. I guess I could just sew up the ends of the sleeves (leaving space for my hands to come out of course) and have gigantic sleeve pockets!
Making one now!!!! I have a queen size plush blanket that is enough fabric to be a wrapping gown on its own, and I'm rewatching to get the pattern right
That is brilliant! May have to follow suit. I have been thinking for a while about making a dressing gown I can throw on for early morning Zoom calls. Apparently some people get up, do their hair, get dressed and *then* go to an 8:30am meeting. I am much more a get up at 8:15am, put my hair up in a bun, throw on something decent that looks okay on camera and grab a mug of tea sort of person. This would fit the bill nicely.
As a person who's alarm went off 20 min before I had to be outside for the school bus - for most of high school... Having an 8:30 start WITHOUT a commute, seems wonderful. An eccentric robe sounds like an entirely sensible option if people are going to demand my presence on camera.
I’ve often thought about doing something like this with ikea blankets (also backing a quilt with fleece blankets) and I, too get super cold and have two feline overlords who would probably love to cuddle on or under this thing
That looks Fab. Putting it on my to do list. Think I have some fleecy fabric/blankets somewhere. But Whitby Goth is coming up and I've got to finish my costume for that before anything else. Was that a weaving loom I saw??
I have had fewer issues putting tension onto the bottom fabric whilst holding the top in place with my thumb. I normally sew by hand but with a machine I rarely use pins.
Love it, but those sleeves would drive me to distraction, I'd end up dipping them in my tea, probably in the toilet and trapping them in doors! Yes, I'm clumsy.

this is ludicrous AND I want one. now if only London weren’t experiencing a heatwave in *October*
I 100% read the title as 'curtain wizard' and didn't even question it. 😂 A wonderful fuzzy robe, your wizarding-ness! 💜
Wow, looks great. I need one. Thursday fur won’t show!
Not me watching this video in my 18th century robe made of curtains and my pyjamas 😂

What an excellent cozy wizard. I need to go fabric hunting...
It looks great. I feel like you should be a character in something urban fantasy.
How awesome!

First off - robe looks awesome, amazing job
Secondly - I CAN DISENGAGE THE KNIFE ON MY OVERLOCKER?!

I've been wanting to make a wizard bathrobe for ages! This one turned out so well!
Ok. This gave me a great idea for a wrap to wear for work during Halloween week.
Antsy for 2024 Halloween content 🎃
this is just brilliant and now i want to make one too!
Just going to say that whilst I am watching this, I am wearing one of my 12th C gowns. With pockets. Out of polar fleece.
Love it!
I am also perpetually cold and have blankets and fleece robes everywhere.
Sadly none of them are this level of extra.
I live in Texas forget cool weather but I still wont to make one for that one to two weeks of cold weather we get
I'm so glad I found your channel! I was suggested your channel for the video on the skirt that always fits and I'm absolutely loving your videos!
I have a mighty need for something like this. What a fab pattern to modify
It never occurred to me that one could serge without the cutting blade! Maybe i won't be so terrified of the whole idea of a serger now 😮
Mission accomplished! Looks great!
Watched your video last night and already resolved to whip at least two of these up this week.
Absolute genius move!
I WILL be making one for work. This is fantastic!
It definitely looks cosy Ash... ☺️ I was expecting you to disappear in a puff of smoke 😅
Oh man now I want one, this is amazing 👀👀👀
Making one now!!!! I have a queen size plush blanket that is enough fabric to be a wrapping gown on its own, and I'm rewatching to get the pattern right
It’s gorgeous and the next time polar fleece is on sale I may have to make one.
I've already ordered fabric to make my own 😂 but I'm useing flannel I'm going to line it and add a hood and pockets too
The struggle I'm in of loving flowy billowy sleeves but know the sensory instant rage of getting them caught on everything ToT
Simply love it!!!
quite cute
Instantly started thinking of what kind of fluffy/thick fabrics I have at home 😂
I did the challenges last year
Absolutely need a video on that collar bit, but maybe in a plain waste fabric so it's easier to see?
Burnley and Trowbridge have detailed sew along videos!

Geesh ❤ all that needs is a pointed hoody* attached* 💡

This is fantastic! Do you think the premise would still work for a plus size robe?

I want one.... why don't any shops around me sell spooky blankets...
I am always too hot…but I kinda need this anyways
all i have to say is... *insert the I NEEED IT spongebob meme here*
