    Biggest concern with renting a watch is that you can’t track it like you can a car. Also, what if someone pops the case and tries to steal the guts ? Sorry for being Debbie downer but those would be my fears. As for the idea, I think it’s awesome of you are ok with the risks or can mitigate those risks.

    • @luihed
      @luihed 10 месяцев назад +1

      Swap the guts out before hand, its not like the people renting them out are allowed to open them to begin with..

    A leasing program but for watches instead of cars would be amazing! Keep something interesting for a while, with a monthly payment and then upgrading or changing out instead of having to buy and collect. Perfect.

    • @nerychristian
      @nerychristian 10 месяцев назад

      I think there is a program like that. Where you pay a membership fee, and every month they send you a mystery watch, and you keep it for a month, and you return it when you receive the next watch.

    I like the idea that the luxury car owner said "as long as you have a luxury car and the proper insurance".
    Renting out to those that have bought or sold to you as a trial round would be a good start.

    AP is in for a rude awakening. Increased production along with INSANE retail pricing. $100k MSRP for a steel perpetual that was $60k 3 years ago, $43,000 for the 43 offshore's (which are constantly broken) is not sustainable when the only reason customers are buying them is for a shot at the royal oak. Base dial royal oaks already trading close to list and newest offshores trading under, the bundle game is dead. Their watches will be sitting in boutiques sooner than later.

    When it comes to renting, I think having the right insurance and credit checks would be important. What happens when a customer doesn't return a high-dollar watch? Should credit determine the types of alerts you can access and how much of a deposit is needed to comfortably lend a watch?

  • @veganbutcherhackepeter
    @veganbutcherhackepeter 10 месяцев назад +2

    I probably wouldn't rent a watch, but I can totally see how this would work for people who have a really special occasion coming up or for someone who is thinking about buying a certain watch, but want to get a feeling of how it wears and looks on them. Just trying it on for a minute at the dealer's isn't always conclusive.

    A watch club membership would be an interesting idea. Once can join at different tier levels (1K to 10K) & (11K to 30K) and so on... Limit your overall exposure, and possibly also offer discounted membership rates with a deposit placed in escrow.

Spending a little time with the watch will ease your mind on a large purchase. Great content guy´s.

    I think the watch program is a great idea. I used to be a member of Eleven James. They made the mistake of insuring the watches. Someone says its lost, pays the deductible of 1k and they have a 50k watch. They lost all their inventory. The member should have to self insure so that they need to put a claim against own policy and you are the additional insured. You do run the risk of this but you guys seem like you can replace the "lost" inventory and maybe even profit when someone does this type of thing. I loved the club. I fell in love with some brands that I didn't think I would like (IWC 8 day reserve, Vacheron) and some models I thought I would love I ended up not, so saved me from a few pieces. Some will say why rent just buy. Why not rent to own I say. Try it out in the club and if you really love the piece you can buy it, from you guys of course !!!

  • @andouille1

    The watch rental thing will not be practical, unless it’s a heavily used watch with scratches and etc. if you rent out a “slider” as Adrian likes to call them, there is no way you’re gonna rent it out and not pay hefty penalty for whirls, dings, scratches etc. (similar to exotic car rentals with outrageous fees for mileage, redlining, smoking, detailing, etc)
    Also they will very likely want the whole cost of the watch upfront as security as it is easy to lose the watch or get robbed or disappear across the pond.
    So not practical for most people.

    Go up. All these dudes who dropped 300-600k on a watch that’s now worth 165k is just the start. How can a watch be 750k retail then immediately drop to 200k soon as you walk out the store.

    Renting watches could be a good idea, I have been a fashion stylist for 4 years if you get in contact with more stylists when they do photo shoots for let’s say vogue you could provide the service of having someone rent the watch for the span of a photoshoot and give a rate or whatever you decide but can be done.
    (rent the runway) could be used as a reference for you guys.

    I think to rent/hire a watch given the size of the item compared to a car I would perhaps link it to maybe a piece of jewellery and have a had time giving it back hahaha, where as with a car I cant simply park it on the street or in my garage I need to frequently service it etc.
    I think price to rent a watch would also be a key aspect.

    Has anyone done stock shares of huge watch portfolios like they have in the fine art world now?

    100% I would rent a watch. There are several that I would never be able to justify buying "like any j. jacobs co" that I would just like to wear for an event. I see this being super successful in places like miami or LA where you have a TON of red carpet events/premiers that people like to show up and show out for. So borrowing a rolex for a few hundred dollars and looking good probably beats carrying your collection or caring about a collection of watches you wouldn't appreciate otherwise.
    And of course I would think most people who watch this channel wouldn't rent a watch because they'd own them so this type of business would mostly target those who want to look the part. If that makes sense.

      Funny thing. I heard someone say that wealthy people don't try to flaunt their wealth. Only insecure people
