That is great you did a hair jig video. A guy stopped by the booth the other day and showed me some hair jigs. Kind of got me thinking about picking up a few. I would be willing to bet the bass haven't seen them on my local fishery.
There was a local guy who has since passed that used to make some good hair jigs that I have caught a lot of smallmouth on. I fish clear lakes and caught the most on a black and blue hair jig.
Great video - Love the Dalehollow Tackle Hair jigs & also the Cumberland Pro's. Something that also works great in warmer water around the May Fly hatch is just reeling either a black or brown hair jig with a slow retrieve.
Great job Hank, yeah those hair jigs can be a real difference make v/s using a regular jig especially in winter. Its surprising how big of a difference in #'s they help get bites. I like floating the fly with those small sizes, really effective way to catch em in super cold water
Man I love that hair jig. Great video. When the fish are just slow to bite they can't stand that action that the hair has with hardly any water movement. It just looks natural. Again great video buddy.
Great video Hank! I been throwing some old Lindy black hair jigs that were made in the 70s! Got a bunch from my late uncle years ago. They don't make them anymore, good thing I got a bunch lol. They work awesome in cold water. Keep up the great tips and advice buddy! 👍
@@BassGeek, I don't know about that. Im jealous because you live in the heart of hair jig heaven by all those clear deep lakes. I'd like to get lessons from you brother. Your channel is unique to me because of your content and knowledge, there isn't much out there about the types of water you fish and the techniques you use to catch em. Also you're an open book when you talk fishing w us, I really appreciate it. Thanks 513
@@BassGeek Got back Monday after the flood. But managed 15 to 20 fish per day used 1/4oz jig in cumberland craw color. soaked to the bone and froze all in one day. LOL thanks for the tips.
Like someone said Hank, Great winter topic! More and more I love finesse bassin. Obviously great better in winter when you can get away with light line. 👍 I got some VMC hair jigs last year in white brown and black on my Christmas TW order. This year I bought a few more
Sweet video brother I want to get more into hair jigs on my high mountain lake for smallies and spots. I have caught fish on them in the past but I'm not proficient in it and this video gave me some motivation to do it this year so I'm gonna pick some up and use them more.👍
Would a typical jig rod work fine with a 3/8 to half ounce hair jig (7’4 heavy, but definitely on the lighter side of heavy, and extra fast) and working the hair jig off of the bottom not tight lining it
I think ive tryed everything but them hair jigs in Patrick Henry reservoir.I know there is small mouth in their just cant get a bite. You got any advice?
Great info as always. Do you have any advice for a lake that is already 4.5 feet down and still being drawn for work on dam. Water temp is still around 48 and muddy with all the rain we are getting here is SC. No cover on bank or docks. Found few fish deep but couldn't get bit. Tried points and rock. Just frustrated. Any advice is greatly appreciated my friend. Thanks again for all the info that you share.
Winter can be defined by temps but also length of day light hours. Both play a big roll in bass movement. If I had to put a temp it would be anything below 50.
@@BassGeek not in my state. below 40 degrees is winter. Indiana waters are cold-cold lol. When it’s winter bass fishing we are bundled up than most videos calling winter fishing with just a hoodie or shorts on. Just checking
That’s why I said temps amount of day light. Cold for a Florida bass is different from cold in Tn or Indiana. It doesn’t change the way the act however. A winter pattern is a winter pattern no matter what temp winter is where you are.
Thanks Hank for this video. I love a hair jigs and also tie them up. If you need or would like to give one of my hair jigs a try just let me know. Hank Snow Outdoors on youtube, instagram, or twitter. Thanks again.

HAhahaha In the cold they are soooooo deadly

Nice color.
Being from the Tidewater area, I really appreciate advice and insight from fellow Virginians. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Yeah tightlining is the poor mans floating fly. That’s why I like it lol
@@BassGeek LOL..u know I ain't loaded I just bought a rod and reel for it when I had the money stuck back years ago lol and It was used at that
Hey Hank another great video keep up the great work and it was a pleasure meeting you at the nc fishing EXPO
Man it was all my pleasure. Thank you.
My brother
Miss you my dude. I have one or two in my box never used so this is great. Thank you
Awesome I hope you catch a bunch

Thanks brother!
I have a few hair jigs, and hardly ever throw them, but then again, I don't get to do much winter bass fishin.
Try them out. Just a tip, but a little piece of senco on the hook shaft. It will make it flare out more and it looks more natural.
Sounds like a good tip. Where I live, the lakes freeze in the winter months, so we have a real limited window to fish for winter bass.
Great tip

Love them old Lindy hair jigs! Wish I still had a few.
That’s awesome I would put some up though.
Great topic Hank, I'm a hair jig fan. Very underrated bait. Good info and great explanation as always.

Thanks! I should be taking lessons on it from you then. I’d say you could teach me a few tricks.

Oops hit send too soon. Meant to say I bought some nice looking Andy’s blk bear hair jigs. Can’t wait to get out again!! Killing me!

I hope I get to do more of it before the winter is over and show you some more detailed stuff.
Great advice on how to use them man. I don't use them but I think I will get one and try it out here.
They can be fun when the water gets cold and the bit slows down.
Great video Hank! Can't wait to give this a try.
Good luck it’s the right time for it.
More great information brother. It was a pleasure to meet you Friday. Like meeting Elvis for me. 😆
Lol easy now. I’m about the same size as he was. Hahaha
Would a typical jig rod work fine with a 3/8 to half ounce hair jig (7’4 heavy, but definitely on the lighter side of heavy, and extra fast) and working the hair jig off of the bottom not tight lining it
It would I’ll be honest I prefer a MedHvy Fast in the cold the lighter the line you can get away with the better
I think ive tryed everything but them hair jigs in Patrick Henry reservoir.I know there is small mouth in their just cant get a bite. You got any advice?
This time of year I don’t. It’s been years since I’ve fished that lake

I would pull up a hair jig and a small swimbait.
