This Flight was awesome! First proper landings on this small thunderbirds 🦅 with landing gear although I needed a lot of attempts to line properly to the “runway” 👌🏼 Super Performance on the 5S LiIon although the weight made the plane less stable on slow speeds… SORRY for the out of focus times. My 8 year old daughter had cold fingers and a too wide jacket on :S :)
nice on 5S pack! Did you have to upgrade ESC? My Freewing panther is really fast on 4s, wonder if it could handle 5s- the speed would be blistering -:) I'm guessing the sizes are kind of limited with 5 s packs though.
Hi Tom, thanks for watching and commenting :D That´s the fun about posting a video :) It seems early this year I already watched a video of your Panther, after I went to see your channel a few days ago. Probably it´s YT-algorithm :P Excuse me for replying so late. Last week I had some work and then I forgot. Yes, I think all planes come with the cheapest ESC for the needs of the edf. This had a Predator (Hobbywing Skywalker V2) 40A that is only capable of 4S lipos and also the current should be around 55A or maybe 60A with a really good lipo. At least that were the readings for my first attempts on my Futura 64mm in the spring. I had changed that after a few flights to 6S QX 2400kV Edf (that sounded not so nice as the 6S 2500kV Freewing by the way) and after crashing went back to 4S and then tried 5S. Of course I had changed the ESC there also. To an 60A (Surpass Hobby or now Skywalker V2). They don´t weight so much more. For this F-16 I even did just adapter cables to change it faster to the stock 40A if needed. For the first tries I got some 1300mAh drone Lipos (from Ovonic) which weight 180g, exactly the same as the 4S 2200 mAh I was using back then. So with that extra 300-400g of thrust the plane is a rocket. I have a short of that Futura taking of vertically like a Mig 29 xD ruclips.net/user/shorts7agE3yO2dJc?si=MFKP1lrJhG_biUtV after I even tried 6S on the stock motor but that was when it began to be fried, after on 4s it was as slow as a 3 year old RC car on the gras . You can tell also that 6S pack was 100g heavier ruclips.net/user/shorts5XBxy51KEJw?si=Y2DNdOWRmpc6VyPV . Also a vertical take off with the light 1300 5S on this F-16 (but in low quality) ruclips.net/user/shortsYOvm_OdxzKQ?si=oFqggIf9vK-z4sL4
So you totally could do the test with your panther :D If it´s for blistering speed as you say I would try a very small lipo or even a LiIon pack with smaller 18650 cells. That would be around 250g and if you use like Molicel P30Bs would have 3000mAh although you should be gentle with the high speed passes or look that the cells get enough air to cool down. About CoG it depends on the type of plane. The Futura 64mm has a super large canopy/battery compartment so you can even place my 6S 4500 mAh LiIon pack without any concerns: ruclips.net/user/shortsDcIqg1c3yO4?si=ImnHe91QM1fJmTIK. But the most 64mm haven´t so much space. This F-16 has good space but way far away from CoG so that placing my 4500 5S is difficult. I first built a 4S that I needed to fold into a compact form to try to get the CG (still a bit nose heavy or around manual CG) and the extra cell for 5S I soldered cables to plug that in series in put it more into the plane. You can maybe see it on the video... But enough of typing boring stuff :P Cheers and have good flights!!
@@ficosk8 Hi, welcome and no worries! I actually miss the comments on my channel all the time, not getting notifications for some reason. Anyway, my friend kelly subscribes to you too( he filmed that panther video you saw), so I think that is how the algorithm works :) I just noticed that your 5s is a LION pack, very cool I subscribe to a guy's channel, forgot the name but he is in Poland and makes his own LION packs and even flies them in his 120mm jets! I hope to try making one sometime.
And thanks for the ESC advice, those sound like good options. I also have a very light 50a hobbywing, that might be ok for flying short bursts at full power. Happy flying, may you avoid snow- you are in France?
@ Hi Tom! Cool, yes Afterwards I saw you and Kelly at the field. First I recognised the field, then the cows and the Eurofighter 🤣 👍🏼 The guy you are talking was the one that made me begin with this too 🤣 Wojtek from @Edfjet its called think. I have a lot of different cells waiting to be soldered 🤣
