You're welcome. The U.S. helped and put much trust into Germany after war. I can't understand how some people still hate you guys espacially other people from my homeland. I guess Vietnam was the biggest mistake the U.S government had ever made just because of all the soldiers who had to die and all these incidents on both sides,as you said. *doffs the proverbial cap* Well said Sir. There aren't many words that can follow something like that. Kids go to war for nations, they then give the people absolute rubbish in return. Whatever happens, take good care of yourself, I shed a tear when I saw this. Be good to yourself. {Man Hug time}
my grandfather fought in world war 2, he never wanted to talk about it with me. I'd ask him and he'd change the subject. War really is hell. I miss him dearly.
My late father died in 1998. He served in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. Dad would always answer my questions, no matter how hard they were or how young I was. When I was 8, I would play "war" with my friends. It always bothered my father that I would play war. Soon after, this movie came out and I went to see it with my Dad and oldest sister. I never played war again. This song in my heart represents the war that destroyed my father. I don't think in his mind he got back until 1992.
justinmndawg bless your father. Surely he is in heaven. was in Nam and Cambodia too, but not in Laos. so I saw some of the same fields of battle that he did. I'm glad that you adjusted as you did, and I'm certain it did his heart proud, as well. bless you, and keep him forever in your heart.
Facing death is a reality that cannot be denied. Therefore a piece of music like this can illustrate how one can feel the sense of loss as life slips away, yet emotionally comforting.
I can't help but remember my friends in Viet Nam when I hear this haunting work. They were young and filled with hope and like me, riddled with questions. But they served and did what they thought was the right thing, did what they thought was noble. How sad this melody is and how it reflects so flawlessly those loses and promises never fulfilled. Good bye dear friends though years have passed the memories and the pain will never fade
The horror of war, most of us will never understand the bravery and sacrifice that our soldiers make. It makes me weep that we send them into this horrible abyss, however grateful and respectful I am. And thankful. I bow to all of you.
This film helped me to understand what I saw in Vietnam. There were at least two wars going on there: one between the US and its allies against the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong; and an American civil war between those who respected the rule of law and those who held the rule of law in contempt. When I came home I put as much distance between me and my Vietnam experience as i could. This film brought it flooding back, but not in a bad way. It helped me to understand why I can be, and am, proud to be a Vietnam Veteran. Platoon is the story Homer would have told about the Vietnam War.
Watched this movie for the first time last night. After it was finished, I was quiet for several minutes and cried thinking about how the Vietnam vets must have suffered. To everyone who served in this horrible tragedy of a war, I offer my highest salutes and want to thank you for what you have done to help our country. To the families of those who didn't make it, I offer my best condolences and hope you continue to live on with the hope that we will never have to go through something as horrible as this again. Thank you, everyone who had served and may God rest the souls of those who died.

He rarely leaves his home now and doesn't answer the phone or door to family or friends. l miss him.... after forty years it's like he never really came home. War truly sucks doesn't it?
My uncle fought in afghan, but him and his squadron got captured, tortured and killed (from what I know because it's "classified"). Only he made it out alive, but when I saw him again, he was pretty fucked up.... I mean he always said these morbid statements, punch walls, act like he was slave, and even some more crazy shit. What pissed me off was that my family turned him away and now I don't know where he is or what the fuck he's doing, he'll I'm not even sure if he's still alive. I hope he's ok though, and I give him my full respect. Btw respect to your uncle too man, must be fucked up....
That's really sad.. both stories.. my grandpa was in WWII and he loved watching about it on the history channel, but he didn't like talking about it, more than finding a crate of wine on his 21st birthday and throwing out his arm lobbing grenades. I can't imagine being in WAR when I was 21.. :(
Sad but it's even more criminal that our suits in Washington have no issues sending young guys off to war and if they are lucky enough to return, they are discarded and left on their own wares.
Most men that see combat get mentally expired when they return and grind out their days isolated and haunted by past memories. Vietnam and other intense combat situations as well as guilt from collateral decays a person's mind. Support the veterans, because the biggest loss to them in a war isn't their life, but their soul.

And the Russians? They were there to provide balloons and popcorn? The south and north vietnamese were tearing each other apart. Whose side should we have been on? I truthfully being born a bit too young to be drafted, have no idea what started the war in the first place. Maybe I should look it up since Ive spent so much time researching ww2 which is so much easier to understand. I wonder what horrors of war, violence and brutality the composer of this song has seen to put so much sadness into this song. What year was it composed?
Marc Vince Adagio for Strings is a work by Samuel Barber, arguably his most well known, arranged for string orchestra from the second movement of his String Quartet, Op. 11. Barber finished the arrangement in 1936, the same year that he wrote the quartet. It was performed for the first time in 1938

I was 14 years old when i joigned the army (Ecole Royale des Cadets, Laeken, BELGIUM). I'm now a psychiatrist and i treasure those hard times spent there. I have the greatest respect for the people who give their life for us... Always...
Unbelievable amount of people left their tears on this footage through time and space. When you watch it you don't have to squeeze a tear out, you cry automatically.
''I think now, looking back, we did not fight the enemy; we fought ourselves. And the enemy was in us. The war is over for me now, but it will always be there, the rest of my days as I'm sure Elias will be, fighting with Barnes for what Rhah called possession of my soul. There are times since, I've felt like the child born of those two fathers. But, be that as it may, those of us who did make it have an obligation to build again, to teach to others what we know, and to try with what's left of our lives to find a goodness and a meaning to this life.'' Chris Taylor
I listen to a lot of classical music. Every time I hear Adagio the entire movie flashes through my mind. The two are inextricably forever linked. The melancholy, yet often anguished strings are so fitting...
This tune is so haunting, it reminds me of my bro, he suffered with PTSD but was not diagnosed with it. Eventually he succumbed to his demons, he went to a peaceful place in 99. Since 1857, 7 generations of my family have served king/queen and country. God bless them and RIP too all those brave souls. I salute you.
One of the only scenes from a film that can still make me cry. I love platoon. It asks and dictates nothing. It's just hell and the end of it. And even at the end there is no great comfort, just a promise of respite from the agony of it all. Great film-making. One of the best films I've ever seen.
Maybe, but I think bad side is the one who start the war, if the reasons not worth it. There have been wars that were necessary for the good of groups, societies, cities, countries or the world.
William Andrés the gulf of tonkin was a false flag incident the US government wanted us to enter that war. we have false flagged alot of attacks to enter wars www.opsecnews.com/gulf-of-tonkin-incident-false-flag-for-war-in-vietnam/
This is by far one of the best tributes to this film that I've seen on RUclips (so long as it is your own work). Fantastic editing and well matched with the emotional score. Apart from the Vietnam vets, I don't think we'll ever come close to close to interpreting the horrors of an unnecessary war like Vietnam, as we do with Platoon. I can only hope that life for these soldiers was better than this. Kudos for the great video, man.
I wonder if our children will relate to the powerful Message delivered by Samuel Barber's incredible music which so poignantly expressed the emotion of this film. For those of us who lived through it, it was the perfect voice . Thank you.
Powerful. In dedication to the 45th anniversary of Woodstock that ended yesterday. For those who had no choice to make it or not. Who really didn't know about domino theory or care. They were called and served. I salute you.
SHADOWWOLF77 I would certainly agree it was a good war film and the soundtrack was excellent, however the Vietnam war is a subject that only involved America and Australia and had a profound effect. I would strongly disagree that this is the best war film ever made. the longest day a bridge to far battle of Britain bridge over the river kwia the cruel sea sink the bismarck zulu. but to name a few thses are also extremely good war films from different theatres and different times well worth a watch .
Chris Holland Well I said ONE of the best not THE best. Those others are also awesome war movies. Vietnam was the USA going in to fix yet another french colonial screwup...
i would like this 2 be a song at my funeral because it reflects a turbulent life but also it represents a small part of my emotional state of mind, in the way i lived my life.
Maravilhosa, doce, melancólica, essa música nos faz ir a outros mundos, onde só existe ternura e doçura. Que incrivel foi esse compositor para capturar tanta beleza.
I'm afraid I have to agree with most of what you are saying Luiz. I didn't understand how true the words were to a song I learned in the 70's, but I do now. "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." I still hold on to the hope that good will prevail over evil in the long run. And I want to be part of that "good."
This movie should be shown to all high school students, it'll show them that war is not some damn video game and it's nothing that one should go to with enthusiasm, I served in Iraq and it's weird that my platoon there had the same mix of various personalities that were acted out in this movie by all the characters, all in all one of the finest war films ever made.
Best music ever, only a few other, can play the complete set of feelings from sad to happy, and its a masterpiece it self and to the movie also. Its so moving when you really listens to it with closed eyes. Try it
My dearest Dad just recently died he was a WW2 veteran buried with honors all veterans who fought to save our country did so with their calling. A very haunting song done as a choice for the movie very applicable for the horror in war but also in daily life. Where are the true men with souls today who really deep down inside need an affectionate woman and think with their souls not their dicks sorry to be so direct but as an older experienced woman the men of the younger generation do not respect woman. My Dad did so for many years with my Mom for all you did Dad I Love and Respect You Always, Your Daughter, Denise
It's a thing people say, they were a different breed. Doesn't mean to say it isn't true. My Grandad was a WW2 Navy veteran (Gunner) of a few ships that went down, and on his last legs, sadly lost it a bit, but to watch him relive the going down of the ship, burning oil all around, was one of the most traumatic things i've ever seen. God knows what it was like for them.
My dad, who at 88, still alive and also a ww2 vet,. He told me a few stories that were harrowing, some good times and gambling on his ship, but he seemed to block the whole thing out of his mind and his coldness about it has made me hate him for it. I only wish, I could be 85(last time we spoke of the war) and have someone care enough to ask me again and again what his thoughts were about not just his experience, but that we now know that had the US gone into Germany in 44 instead of waiting till 45, we might have saved sooooo many lives. Now that it has come out that the US govt knew about the concentration camps and did nothing for strategic reasons, Im sure books are written about it, but as time goes by, its just another thing to sweep under the rug, and of course, no one of power ever held responsible. This is hindsight of course, but when I tell my dad I cant believe 55 milion people died over this stupidity, he actually gets angry at me and mocks me for feeling such emotion. There is no human on earth who is not a psychopath, that could live thru just 10,000 soldiers stories of man who saw real danger ,battle and maybe death around them.....let alone 1% of the 55 million who died, without winding up in a nut house or with permanant depression. I am still not sure some of the worlds leaders dont belong there now as they have so much history and horror captured on film as never before in history. And still they kill, enslave and torture as if all this in the past never happened....... it makes you wonder how there can be a God.
No music but Barbers Adagio could have truly encapsulated this film. A beautifully haunting piece, that speaks of the death of optimism, youth, and humanity
I'm USAF. I fought for USA.My dad fought in Vietnam. Both my grandfathers fought in WW2 and Korea. People respect us.Salute us.We fight and die for America. We are the reason y'all have freedom. We're on the brink of WW3
all my grandfathers since 1864 till 1945 have been in wars, fighting, suffering n at the end there was all invane. me im so very tired of the old storys, pictures, cant seeing them anymore. my son is now 6 years, i dont want him to see waht all my ancestors had to see. no army, he should having a life of peace n happiness. god bless u all
Am a Vet, operator, navy, retired/team 2. Yeah, beautiful music to a hellatious war, lot of things went wrong there, and those who survived and came home now realize nothing was gained or learned.
I DO NOT THINK THIS MUSIC IS ABOUT WAR IN THIS MOVIE. IT THINK IT IS ABOUT THE DEATH OF HUMANITY. WHERE TRUTH ONLY EXISTS IN THE MOMENT AND THEN IS GONE FOREVER.
Should we be more sympathetic toward Americans who lost their lives over nothing? It's leaders decide to have wars and always the ordinary people and soldiers who pay the price.
Jacqueline Le That the question has to even be asked, is one of the hardest things for me to swallow, when you throw on top of it the end result: without the USA in the war it is very, very possible Russia or Germany or Japan would be the leaders of the world and what horror we would have. I am still a firm believer in democracy for all....or none. Dividing lines are only on maps, not on peoples souls. You mean we are obligated to protect someone in the US because they are behind some line drawn someplace, and that another person who is being held in a camp somehwere or the milllions of women forced into______, we should not act because the map maker shows them not to be on the right side of the dividing line? Is this insane? WW 1 AND THEN 2 were called the war to end all wars. We stopped far too soon both times. All we needed was to listen to Patton and go into Russia, and he had to already have the plan to do it. And his govt thought he was crazy. Like a fox he was crazy. J Edgar Hoover spent his whole life seeing communism everywhere when to us there was "almost" none. How would the world be sooooo much different if the USA just took a breather and then surprised the world with 'round 2." There was no big oil and weapons coprs to make the decisions for our govt, now we have too many chefs in the kitchen it seems and as it appears....nothing gets done. Yes we had a mighty Desert Storm situation where we really did good things to save the world from Saddam. But again we pulled out way too soon, and look at the years he stayed in power and terrorized us and the world and mostly his own people. Why is America so quick to be blamed for intervening in everyone's business, yet we always leave before the job is done.
Marc Vince Democracy does not work for all, the sooner you get that our of your head and the faster they stop forcing in other cultures and countries the quicker we will have peace. Freedom obtained by the blood of others is not appreciated it and it will not last.
I never get enough of this beautiful piece or the movie for that matter. Stone cold war movie addict( Full Metal Jacket, Hamburger Hill, so on and so on. LOL I cry everytime Willem Dafoe gets shot up.
Wait 10 years and this'll be the title music for some war film about Afghanistan and the horrors our guys are experiencing over there. Heroes one and all.
rurounisld How dare you. You're a pig. Ask the people of Europe and Africa if the World should have just given in to the Nazis without firing a shot. Ask them if all the brave Allied soldiers, airmen, and Marines died for nothing. Ask the people of the Philippines and China if all those that died fighting the Japanese did so for no reason. All wars are terrible, but occasionally they are necessary. Unless you're against freedom.
In the name of all that is good and right, can't we agree to honor those who gave their lives for what they believed was the noblest of all causes, and lash out against who ever we think is "the enemy" some other day?
to ganiniii and the soldiers had no choice whether they approved or not they were force into battle like my Dad, my hero. How sad all who suffered I bow my head to all veterans.
Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, give us peace!
CabooseNor The words above "Lamb of God," etc. are the words to the prayer for which this piece of music was written. It is called "Agnus Dei," which is Latin for "Lamb of God." I know this because I am educated enough to be an atheist by choice, not by the default of spiritually bankrupt, self-obsessed, Dialectical materialism of our "Brave New World." Nothing but spiritual belief or love is capable of creating such beauty in art or music. That's why so much of today's music and art is such rubbish..
It's funny, people are always bashing the bible, but you can always learn find interesting things in it. He'll honestly when I look at the world now, almost everything it has said and described is right about (mainly in revaluations), but this also kinda frightens me.
Pooor Elias!!!! this film is one of the best! With all grandious Actors! Tom Baranger , William Dafoe, Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp! And Dr. Cox from Scrubs! Smile!
Never never again Viêt Nam !!! they said !!! Now it happends in Syria !!!!! Human never cease to fight against each others !!! Those horrors are still alive
Diane Dormal and its over stupid reasons political views or religion🙄let people be jewish or christian or capitalist or communist until they threaten you then you have no reason to fight😒
Brownland Cleve could't agree more, as an german, I feel bad for all soldiers who killed each other, just because of war-mongers like Hitler, Churchill and Stalin
Every generation has their Kennedy assasination. Every generation has their lunar landing. Every generation has their Vietnam war. We mindlessly repeat our greatest accomplishments, our finest hours, and our most dreadful deeds over and over again.

Советские страны, в последствии и Вьетнам) нищета и разруха, посмотри на теперешний Вьетнам, нищая страна зато с коммунизмом, поздравляю! По этому не нужно эти басни по поводу страшных капиталистов.
I was 14 years old when i joigned the army (Ecole Royale des Cadets, Laeken, BELGIUM). I'm now a psychiatrist and i treasure those hard times spent there.
I have the greatest respect for the people who give their life for us...
Always...
Adagio For Strings, is hauntingly beautiful. It was also played at the end of "The Elephant Man"...another all-time favorite movie of mine!
If look closely Oliver stone borrowed a few things from lynch m.ruclips.net/video/LAi2ehBBw7M/видео.html
This is a movie everyone needs to see in their lifetimes...As much as it hurts every time I watch it, it needs to be seen.
Rejoice young man in thy youth. Thank you all who served, God bless the one's who did not return.
The melancholy, yet often anguished strings are so fitting...
this movie was amazing. evry american needs to see it. i watch is like every week and it still makes me cry.
One of those movies which stay in your mind for a long long time. Very powerful with such epic and unforgettable moments.
Oh what a memory...... Time Maschine..... 💪💪💪Good work guys👌👌👌
In war there is no good side. Both sides are taking the gift of life from each other.
Maybe, but I think bad side is the one who start the war, if the reasons not worth it. There have been wars that were necessary for the good of groups, societies, cities, countries or the world.
William Andrés
the gulf of tonkin was a false flag incident the US government wanted us to enter that war. we have false flagged alot of attacks to enter wars

William Andrés www.thirdworldtraveler.com/Terrorism/10_False_Flag_Operations.html
Eduardo Torres there is no patriotism. It's just survival.
There is definitely a good side in at least a lot of wars. Are we on the same page here?
All American soldiers who served and died in Vietnam deserve the highest honor
The horror of a war so deeply flying in the serenity of a beautiful song

yeeesss !!!
They actually picked great songs/music for this movie. Needs to happen more often in movies.
THE BEST FILM OF THE WAR AND MUSIC
Thank you.
i love this movie so much its one of my all time favourites and i love this piece of music
This piece of music is hauntingly beautiful.
me too
This piece was perfect for the movie. Such a beautiful, peaceful sound set against the backdrop of the horrors and insanity of war.
Film powala na nogi, nawet po tylu latach ciarki przechodzą mi po plecach gdy słyszę ten temat ;)
I'm a firm believer that there's no better way to share feeling with others outside of doing so with music..I can feel the composure's pain
still one of the most emotional rollercoasters contemporary classical pieces of (my) music created in my lifetime.
Powerful. In dedication to the 45th anniversary of Woodstock that ended yesterday. For those who had no choice to make it or not. Who really didn't know about domino theory or care. They were called and served. I salute you.
For me, the greatest music ever, that deeply touches my heart...
My favourite cast in a film, loved the actors and this film!
5:24 The saddest scene in the movie.
Among the best war movies ever made.
BARNES WAS A SURVIVOR IN A WORLD WHERE GOD NO LONGER EXISTS-ONLY SURVIVING.
Eva Cagle
A bad survivor as it turned out.
15 minutes of horror
SHADOWWOLF77 I would certainly agree it was a good war film and the soundtrack was excellent, however the Vietnam war is a subject that only involved America and Australia and had a profound effect. I would strongly disagree that this is the best war film ever made.
the longest day
a bridge to far
battle of Britain
bridge over the river kwia
the cruel sea
sink the bismarck
zulu.
but to name a few thses are also extremely good war films from different theatres and different times well worth a watch .
Chris Holland
Well I said ONE of the best not THE best.
Those others are also awesome war movies.
Vietnam was the USA going in to fix yet another french colonial screwup...
"Rejoice O young man in thy youth". A great movie, watched it at least ten times.
Moving, sad, deep, memorable.
At13yrs old this broke me beyond repair
i would like this 2 be a song at my funeral
because it reflects a turbulent life but also it represents a small part of my emotional state of mind, in the way i lived my life.
yuri groenkan agreed!
i could watch this video over and over and over.. ive watched platoon atleast 100 times
''Rejoice O young man in thy youth...'' - Ecclesiastes
Maravilhosa, doce, melancólica, essa música nos faz ir a outros mundos, onde só existe ternura e doçura. Que incrivel foi esse compositor para capturar tanta beleza.
"'Only the dead have seen the end of war'' Plato.
This soundtrack is bombastic. One Oscar for this. Very very cool soundtrack.
Com certeza um gênio Albione . Todos os adagios sem explicação leveza, ternura, amor, ódio , mais o mais importante momentos extremos da vida....
I'm afraid I have to agree with most of what you are saying Luiz.
I didn't understand how true the words were to a song I learned in the 70's, but I do now. "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me."
I still hold on to the hope that good will prevail over evil in the long run. And I want to be part of that "good."
This song is so deep..so sad...so sad....beautiful as well...
Great movie. Need to watch it again. For the ... hmm... 40th time I think. :)
War planned by smarts, fought by braves and only cowards sit on its throne
Talal Ibrahim your right
un véritable chef d'oeuvre ce film avec des acteurs jouant admirablement bien ! cet extrait me donne trop envie de le revoir ...
Think of ones sacrifice and heroism as you listen to this beautiful melody and try not to tear up
This is fantasic composition.
was a time to forget ,and a time to remember and never forget.
Strings, beautiful strings revealing the depth of emotions and something else ....
Such a moving piece of music ❤️
I'm USAF. I fought for USA.My dad fought in Vietnam. Both my grandfathers fought in WW2 and Korea. People respect us.Salute us.We fight and die for America. We are the reason y'all have freedom. We're on the brink of WW3
30th anniversary of one of the greatest Vietnam War movies
yep. and don't forget about the classic show, "China Beach".....
Best film of all time if ya ask me. Charlie Sheen's performance was incredible, hell I loved every bit of this film!
it does not get any better than this
+supernova49 agree
No. It's called humanity. Without passion and conflict you would not have this piece of music.
Always honor the men who went there and did their duty...
Prob one of the best movies i've ever seen 10/10!
This film is awesome.
all my grandfathers since 1864 till 1945 have been in wars, fighting, suffering n at the end there was all invane.
me im so very tired of the old storys, pictures, cant seeing them anymore.
my son is now 6 years, i dont want him to see waht all my ancestors had to see. no army, he should having a life of peace n happiness. god bless u all
The first victim of war is the truth..
Eva Cagle well put
Some statement ...where truth exists in the moment and is then gone forever.....
True "To live is to die."
Oliver Stone knows how to get ur emotions going. This is one of the saddest movies ever. Music makes it perfect.
War never changes
No it doesn't ... on going waste
lovely piece of music by Samuel Barber..very moving
Beautiful theme, but very sad.
My sentiments exactly!
@@NancyGooGoo It must be the saddest piece of music ever written..
I have watched this film 100 times and plan on watching it 1000 times more!
I really love this film!
Good thinking way Marc.
LOL I cry everytime Willem Dafoe gets shot up.
super film, musique magnifique
Filme e trilha se completam.Sem palavras!!!!!!!Verdadeiras obras-primas.
Charlie hasn't stopped getting high since 😎
+plt3us lol true
That long ass toke from the shotgun that started it all.
Amazing song for an amazing movie!
Fantástica !!!!
Wait 10 years and this'll be the title music for some war film about Afghanistan and the horrors our guys are experiencing over there. Heroes one and all.
l'adagio de Samuel Barber so wonderful
This music just sums up all the terror, sadness and grief in the whole world.......
TO ALL THAT SERVED IN THE USA ARMED FORCES..THANK YOU...GRACIAS
To the millions that died for no reason. Well corporate profit maybe
rurounisld
How dare you.
6foot3two25
freedom.. oh please.
yeah, right. wars are fought for freedom. i totally forgot.
In the name of all that is good and right, can't we agree to honor those who gave their lives for what they believed was the noblest of all causes, and lash out against who ever we think is "the enemy" some other day?
la follia della guerra con la bellezza sublime della musica è devastante riunisce insieme i momenti più alti e più bassi dell'uomo
to ganiniii and the soldiers had no choice whether they approved or not they were force into battle like my Dad, my hero. How sad all who suffered I bow my head to all veterans.
watched this for the first time last night, probably affected me more than any other war based film i've ever seen.
Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us.
Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, give us peace!
wdgpgh blah blah blah blah blah
+Dman yup. Iraq was hell. my pops got drafted and sent to nam. his number was 023. shitty luck.
Pooor Elias!!!!
this film is one of the best!
With all grandious Actors!
Tom Baranger , William Dafoe, Charlie Sheen, Johnny Depp! And Dr. Cox from Scrubs!
Smile!
RIP to soldiers and civilians of all nationalities who died in that war. What a terrible, useless waste of human lifes...
Was in auto other day in rush hour & this popped up on KUSC & has such an effect on oneself raisin hairs on neck & rainin in car. Merci for postin!
