Having got money smart about 20 years after I got out of JWs, I wish I had put more time and effort into my career and qualifications. It took me the first 10 years of being out to realise that Armageddon wasn’t coming, then I had to spend a number of years figuring out who I was, what kind of person I wanted to be and what I believed. Then it dawned on me that if Armageddon wasn’t coming I had better start saving and putting money away for my retirement! 🤦🏽♀️
Took me around that amount of time as well. I fixed the gap by keeping my expenses super low. Managed to go to uni and graduate, just last month. Now I gotta figure myself out anew, you're not alone 😊

It's true, the belief system is super ripe for horror stories. In fact, JWs have a great oral tradition of telling each other these stories, and the kicker is, they believe they are really true. For example classics such as the possessed smurf doll story, or the haunted DOOM nintendo cassette. I remember specifically being told about a ghost in some old house that would spook people going to the toilet, because the place was alledgedly inhabited by satanists at some point. I mean, I was really afraid of this kind of stuff as a kid, because my parents believed in it, and were using it as their idea of a rational explanation for things.
