Hell yeah. Knew you'd connect with a lot of different parts on the album, because Courtney and the band aren't afraid to play with their sound and do what feels right to them. I think Courtney had once said that their real fans understand that about them, so they won't get fussy when songs sound different, haha. It's funny because while I definitely have some songs off this album that stand out (like that I'll zero into to play more prominently), when literally _any_ song off this album comes on, I find myself just bobbing my head, singing along (because _obviously_ I know all the lyrics, this album is great!), and totally vibing. A flowy pretty song, a total stankface banger, a chorus, a breakdown, whatever -- This album has a zillion hooks that you don't even realize have already got you while you're sitting at your desk, or working out, or doin the dishes, or gettin on the freeway, or stopped at the light, you turn it up!! So glad you had a good time with this album. It still amuses me because it's their "debut album", but we already actually had like a dozen songs from them out by then that everybody fell in love with the band over. So like, obviously you'll have to check them out too in time! And don't forget the super enjoyable *"Silverside Sound"* session and/or the *"SiriusXM Liquid Metal"* session to see her giving those vocal performances! 🌟 Special mention about Yellowjacket - now that they have the absolutely fantastic **Josh Gilbert** on bass, he absolutely kills the backup vocals on that song during live performances! Josh is very well known from his previous band for contributing clean vocals, so having him as a proper and permanent member of Spiritbox now is literally a dream come true for fans, and we hope Spiritbox and Josh never let each other go, lol, and we're all highkey hoping they strive to integrate his vocals into their sound because that'd be such a sick evolution for them.
Thank you for sharing this with us! Like bro I was watching a wholeass show and noticed this was posted, literally paused that shit mid sentence, dramatic scene and everything and sat up to vibe with you on this 🤩
Also, *Secret Garden* and *Constance* have really moving music videos, IMO (I know, I know!). Although given the context of each, they're probably on opposite ends of the feels. Both are beautiful productions, nonetheless, and you might appreciate spending a few minutes with them. Cheers! 🍻

I'm sorry about your bag of smashed assholes but glad you made it. As for the reaction, I don't listen to Yellowjacket much because I have the same "too much Sam" problem with it. However, live it's amazing because Josh sings Sam's parts -Courtney does none of the singing on this song these days, letting Josh do all of it. Even when they toured with Architects a few weeks ago Sam let Josh do most of the singing which is pretty cool of both Courtney and Sam to give their stuff to Josh who is an amazing vocalist. He also does a good amount of singing on Hurt You, and The Void from The Fear of Fear EP. As for The Summit, at first I skipped the clean songs but now it is #1 on my Spiritbox playlist followed by Secret Garden and Strange World. And Holy Roller needs to be seen live because her vocals are somehow heavier. In fact when you're done with reacting to the recordings please do all the live one take or live band pro shot videos where you get to see Courtney do it for real.

Great reaction. If I can make one recommendation it's that you watch "Spiritbox - The Mara Effect live at Silverside Sound" instead of listening to the EP version first. I think the live version is superior. Some people think The Mara Effect trilogy is their best work while others don't love it as much because it's their most progressive and they prefer the later stripped down styles. I think you'll like it because you love her voice and she goes to more places in Mara than in any other songs.

You should check out Courtney and Mike's old band Iwrestledabearonce. Well...the "Hail Mary" album cuz thats where both of them were in the band. Courtney was on the album prior "Late For Nothing" but Hail Mary has some of those early hints of Spiritbox along with IWABO's weirdness sprinkled in...
For example, "Silk in the Strings" has a bit of IWABO vibes
Spiritbox started out because Courtney and Mike were both replacements for original members of the band(Courtney has called original IWABO vocalist Krysta Cameron her idol)....but because they were replacements they always felt and were treated as outsiders thus Spiritbox was born.

Constance really hits different watching the music video. Makes me cry every time.
Not sure if anyone explained it but it was written about Courtney’s grandmother who died to Alzheimer’s. She died during Covid and Courtney couldn’t travel to the funeral. I believe Constance was the name of the director of the music video’s mother who also passed away to Alzheimer’s. Courtney’s grandmother wanted her to sing and not scream so it’s why she’s singing in this song.

Seeing your reaction to this album in particular, I SERIOUSLY think that you would LOVE another AMAZING band that started coming up around the same time as these guys, called PVRIS (pronounced "paris"). They're an EXQUISITE mixture of electronic-edged alternative rock and hip-hop/R&B poppy style, which is you IMMEDIATELY made me think about when you starting gushing over what Courney and co were doing here. Frontwoman Lyndsay Gunnelfsen (or Lynn Gunn as she prefers to be known) is an INSANELY talented musical artist, too - not only does she have an INCREDIBLE voice and spectacular talent as a songwriter, but she basically does EVERYTHING in the studio, both instrumentally AND as a producer (basically the rest of the band are just there for LIVE performances). They've put FOUR absolute killer albums out since their brekout in 2014, and basically EVERYTHING I've heard from them so far has simply blown me away.

Ashlena, I am so glad you enjoyed Eternal Blue. I believe I may have left this comment previously, but I still hope that you react to the other EPs: self titled EP Spiritbox 2017, and The Singles Collection 2019. I also recommend the song Broken Vessels from Unicron which is Courtney’s first band. It is not on Spotify unfortunately, but it is on RUclips. Her and Mike were also apart of iwrestledabearonce (IWABO) and I love the song Gift Of Death. I could mention countless other collabs, but I think that others have already done so. ☺️

I'm glad you enjoyed this. The Summit, Halcyon, and Eternal Blue are my favorite songs on this album. With Secret Garden and Constance being runners-up. I love Courtney's screams, but all those songs showcase the many different textures and nuances to her beautiful singing voice. Hurt You also showcases her voice too, amid the primal screams. There is no bad song on this album. A banger, front to back.

Not a big fan of Architects but still went to their show last month because Spiritbox and Loathe were opening for them 😀It was well worth it.
This album is great with almost every song being my favorite depending on my current mood, except for Yellowjacket and Secret Garden which I always skip.
For me the best Spiritbox experience remains The Mara Effect live at Silverside Sound. I also very much like The Beauty Of Suffering especially the version they did with Sirius XM Liquid Metal.

@@ashlenamusic The lead singer is very energetic and the overall sound of the band is quite dynamic, but I don't know, their music doesn't resonate with me. I hate to say that but but it feels somewhat like a teenage-oriented band to me 😬which is weird because I could make a similar observation for many other bands, including Spiritbox, Loathe, Jinjer to some extent, and it doesn't bother me as much.

@@ashlenamusic honestly I could say that for other bands I "accidently" went to see 😅 Bullet For My Valentine, Motionless In White, Ice Nine Kills, Bring Me The Horizon... I probably won't make friends saying that 😬

Secret garden and the song eternal blue are my favorites by them and I am a huge fan of harsh vocals but the soft singing melody combined with the huge and metal-y but also very melodic sound of the band just works together so incredibly well that those songs to me are just pure genius. If they only made songs like that I would still be a huge fan but the fact that they can produce a sound like those songs I mentioned and then churn out heavy hitters like holly roller makes them so epic and versatile. They all have their place in someone’s music library but those songs with the softer soothing sound of her voice coupled with the BIG sound of the band are just incredible. I noticed you said you wished her vocals were louder on secret garden and I can kind of see what you mean but I think the softness creates this amazing blend that really makes the sound of her voice and the instruments very uniquely intertwined
