  • Chris Beesley speaks to Anders Limpar, the man described by Everton’s last trophy-winning manager Joe Royle as “A football genius” and “the most-talented player I ever worked with,” in the latest episode of Goodison Park: My Home.
Despite hailing from Solna, on the edge of Sweden’s capital city of Stockholm, Limpar, explains how he was actually a boyhood Blue with his affiliation with Everton going back much longer than his three-year playing stint with the club between 1994-97.
The 59-year-old, who had already been a League Championship winner with Arsenal before he came to Merseyside, speaks poignantly about his friendship with the late Kevin Campbell and also recalls the scramble for his signature when his time at Highbury came to an end.
Limpar speaks candidly about his part in ‘The Great Escape’ against Wimbledon, the change of manager from Mike Walker to Joe Royle, winning the FA Cup against Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and his combination both on and off the field with fellow winger Andrei Kanchelskis who inadvertently helped him to learn Russian.
It’s another generous portion of True Blue nostalgia with our 10th guest so far as we celebrate the final season of ‘The Grand Old Lady’ with one of her greatest mercurial talents.

What a fantastic player anders was for the toffees and my favourite player in his time with us. I wish he was a manager or coach i would love him in our management team. Maybe bring him back as a fan engagement officer or a scout

Remember we beat Middlesbrough 4-0 at home. Ravenelli, Emerson, Juninho, Kanchelskis were all on the pitch and Anders Limpar absolutely ran the show. What a player 💙

Great to hear and listen Anders Limpar of his memoirs especially playing for Everton!
Besides being a great player, so skilful on the ball and driving forward with it, often passing opponents as they weren't there (a bit the same with Iliman Ndiaye at the moment) and creating so many chances; you can also hear and feel how passionate Evertonian Anders Limpar has been nearly all his life and still is! 🤗
I myself, living in Finland, have also been an avid Everton fan from the very beginning of the 1970's.
And yes, Finland and Sweden do have much "competition" in many fields, especially in sports, but basically our countries are the best friends and neighbour's there can be.🤗

Great interview, what a player Anders was, when he was on form he would tear teams to pieces, we used to say for our tactics ‘just give it to Limpar’ . Great to see he is a massive toffee and looks well 👍

Another great interview in the series, we’ve had some top class wingers and he was definitely one of them. Made me smile when he recalled how fast Kanchelskis was!

Ah yeah. He was real. Proper.
Imagine the likes of Limpar, Beagrie, Mirallas, McKenzie, Sheedy, Kanchelskis, Amokachi, Kilbane, Samways, Bracewell, Inchy, Parkinson, Gravessen, Delafeou, Felliani, Steven....... then imagine Dyche benching them all in favour of Dope-Coure, Young and Gueye..
