Very nice practical example of melodic embellishment in the jazz style using a concrete example. Most jazz tutorial video's are about chords and chord/scale based solo's. etc, but the melody (theme) of the song remains the most important part. Old jazz players from before the bebop era used this mainly as a basis for improvisation.
Thank you for your kind comment and I'm pleased to hear that you found it helpful.
Great achievable steps set out here. Not “oversold” and again linking into all the stuff we do. I love these bite sized tips, find them really motivating!!!
I always learn so much from your lessons AND the music sounds wonderful. Many thanks for making these available to those of us who have always wanted to learn jazz piano.
Been working through the fluency course this week, it’s connected so many dots for me. Really great stuff!
Love this clip too.
Great to hear! Keep up the good work!
Great content ❤
Speaking subjectively, I tend to spend more time intellectualising about jazz than actually physically practising it. Even though I’m a member of Jazz Skills, with all of Shan’s amazing teaching available to me, this kind of mini-lesson prods me into instant affirmative action on the keyboard. Love it!
You’re a helluva teacher Shan!
You're very kind and thank you for your comment. May the swing be with you!
Thanks for these useful specifics, Shan!
My pleasure!
Great Tips!
Thanks for these great mini lessons!
Glad you like them!
I like your comparison for pushing notes to getting pushed on stage lol I’ll never never forget that
my brother get me on a lesson
