    Mobile Suit Gundam started in the days when robot anime were meant to cater to children and sell toys, referred to now as the Super Robot genre, but the lead creator wanted to add actual drama and realism, giving birth to the Real Robot genre. Multiple series follow the main timeline called the Universal Century but there has been a couple of series that do their own thing. Since the Gundam series usually uses war as a backdrop, most of the games are either VS games or strategy games.

    • @AStandsForFrench
      @AStandsForFrench 3 дня назад +1

      what this user means by drama and realism is the setting involves literal Space Nazis, who have rebelled against the Earth Federation and drop multiple space colonies larger than Mount Everest onto earth as makeshift orbital bombardments. RIP Australia
      the original Gundam series could go pretty hard on the "War Is Bad" message, especially for a children's cartoon. lotta characters die, sometimes horrifically, and on camera too.

    Mobile Suit Gundam is a franchise starting back in 1979 that stated the "Real Robot" genre of mecha anime, where mechs are treated like tank, jets, and other war vehicles instead of like superheroes.
    In the future year of universal century 0079, a cluster of space colonies known as Side 3 become the Principality of Zeon and not just break away from the Earth Federation but conquer it with the new revolution in warfare called Mobile Suit. They can better maneuver than space ships or fighters and the particles from their reactor disrupt most communications and radar. With the EF forces on its back leg, their only hope to turn the tide is the secret creation of Project V, The RX-78-2 Gundam, and its reluctant teen pilot Amuro Ray, and the drafted crew of the experimental flag ship the White Base. It basically the pacific war of ww2 in space.
    The sequels in the UC timeline and alternate universes all revolve around theme of War, politics, armies genuinely having Heroes and Villians on both sides, with the protagonist' mech typically being the show's Gundam.
    The name Gundam (pronounced Gundamu in Japanese engrish) is a combination of Gun and Freedom, as the titular mechs powerful beam rifle could hold back enemy force like a dam holding back a flood.
    Speaking of Exo-Sqaud, it's like the European front of ww2 to gundam's pacific front according to the series' executive producer Will Meugniot.

    The original Mobile Suit Gundam anime came out in 1979, I believe... I think Gundam Wing might have been like the 6th or 7th mainline series released in the franchise, coming out around the mid 90s, I think... The first 4 series are set in the same world, but then after that they start doing alternative universes... One of the series suggests that they're all in the same universe, but I think arguably there are too many inconsistencies and I think that moment is more to celebrate the franchise rather than for it to be canon and taken too literally, but oh well... Technically probably not impossible, but seems really weird if true, based on a few issues...
    Gundam was pretty influential, being the first "real robot" mecha anime... Most mecha shows before it were probably monster-of-the-week, superhero, giant robot shows (later typically referred to as "super robot"), something like Power Rangers/Super Sentai, except with much more focus on the robots... But Gundam, while still pretty nonsense, usually plays out more like a war drama and the mech are treated more like fighter planes or tanks than super machines... Although the Gundam and it's prodigy, and/or soon to be ace pilot, often manage to avoid serious damage, while killing many enemies... At least until the finale ^_^;;... But one thing that's slightly annoying about this is that the brand recognition has lead many people to refer to almost any mech as a Gundam, when really a Gundam is a fairly specific mech... It's like if someone called all cars Ferraris or something... It's kinda understandable sometimes because there are a bunch of mechs with similar designs to Gundams, but many times people might refer to something pretty different as a Gundam... It's almost as bad as when someone calls a Gundam a Transformer lol (some do transform though >_>;)...
    Funnily enough, Gundam has been a pretty big part of Super Robot Wars from the start (except the games focused on the Super Robot Wars original characters, which came later)... The Gundam franchise is typically represented in every game (other than previously stated exception), alongside representation from the Mazinger and Getter Robo franchises (although I think there might be one or two games that leave one or the other out, but it's highly unusual)... They're like the holy trinity of SRW lol.

    so here is what gundam is. in meta terms, gundam is a series of shows Some all in the same universe others in their own.
    in universe the original gundam is an experimental prototype Mobile suit.
    a mobile suit is a what the mecha are called in gundam.
    in the original universe, there have been other mobile suits called gundam for either being designed to look like it or the status it has as a piece of military hardware.
    in alternate universes, they often find some kind of excuse why the mechs in this entirely different universe are called gundam. From gundam wing having their mechs being made out of gundarium alloy, thus being called gundam
    to gundam seed, where the units are named after the shorthand for the operating system they are running on

      Outside of UC there was stuff like Gundam X, Gundam Build Fighters, Gundam AGE, Gundam Full Blooded Orphan or whatever it was called... There were some SD Gundam stuff I think... I think there was a Gundam Seed universe movie called something like Stargazer... I forget... I think there's more... And this is just talking anime, not including the games, novels, manga and so on... F90, Blue Destiny, Gundam Seed Astray, Crossbone Gundam or whatever...

    My favorite SNES fighting game and in my opinion the best original FG in the SNES(Not a port).
    It's so fun to command grab as Tallgeese and jump and slam the enemy mobile suit, i still haven't got to Wing but Zechs is my favorite character in it for being for my main on the game, having a cool mech with a stupid name and being a Char clone.
    If you wanna know how nuts the fighting game craze went on the 90s, look up Mary Shelley's Frankenstein for the Sega CD.

    • @KitsyX
      @KitsyX 3 дня назад

      Well it arguably depends how you look at it... It started the real robot genre of mecha anime, I believe, but you could argue about if super robot shows are mecha anime too... And then there's the more western style mecha properties... I'm not sure if they were influenced or not... They do have some similar elements, but I'm not sure they're quite the same... Gundam is certainly fairly prominent and influential though.... There's a reason many people mistakenly refer to many mecha as Gundams.

    This was my favorite SNES fighting game. Cool specials and super moves, a pretty good variety of playable suits and styles, and excellent presentation. A lot of the music is excellent, the stages are cool and the sprites are huge, but everything plays smoothly. It even has surprisingly deep mechanics, especially for a licensed SNES fighting game. Super jumps, EX Special moves, and a universal projectile.

    hey Jesse, when you do requests, have you considered having people submit, in addition to the track, maybe a little video clip or something to show the game for some context? maybe to watch it to get a feel for the context during the video itself. like there's a video that showcases HD footage of the stage the Airport theme(Heavyarms's theme) is from, at youtube video: DFGbzxT02Oo , you can safely mute it but it does show exactly what the game is and plays like. Or do you prefer not really knowing at all period and having to google things?

      It's a mixture of factors like, getting footage can require getting permission and that would be a lot of work for multiple videos. Another would be that it could influence what I feel / hear from the song. I kinda like not knowing anything and finding out later. Context is cool, but some mystery is nice.

    *black man licking lips and rubbing hands together meme*
    Gundam is an entity now more than a series. It's a multimedia marvel that's spanned 45 years now. Gundam started as an anime in 1979 but only gained popularity after the much easier to digest movies came out then it just exploded. There are dozens of anime series of all kinds in different universes. The original timeline is called the Universal Century (UC, for short). The other universes are considered AU, or Alternate Universe, but that's become so huge it's almost pointless to label it that way. Gundam Wing is the AU Gundam series this fighting game is based on. It was released in 1995 in Japan. It's also the series that finally gave Gundam a foothold into the west. If you seriously have any more questions, you know where I am. I've requested more than enough Gundam music during marbles (never from video games of course).
    This entire soundtrack is bops so I'm glad someone requested it. This is the only fighting game I've ever really gotten into. Nope, not even the many other Gundam fighting games (and there are so many).
    There are so many more Gundam video game soundtracks out there. Hopefully this opens the floodgates.
