    We have found that an inexpensive motion sensor light placed in our 2018 Ascent bathroom (under the sink on the wall) to be a great improvement to the shocking lights provided. Also a small bumper pad on the bottom corner of the cabinet to the left as you enter the RV has save me multiple head injuries. Keep up the great work. I am in the process of reworking everything, loved, loved, loved the idea of placing walking sticks in back where screen is stored. Never though to look there...lol

      LOL. That really made me laugh because I hate John's golf clubs. They are always in the way of my "more important" stuff. Maybe you could get a ladder installed on the back door and lash them to that. I've seen a lot of trays that people insert in their hitch. You could lash them to that perhaps. I'm still laughing thinking how you asked the wrong person. Good thing your wife plays too. But seriously, I hope you guys enjoy the heck out of your new rig. Brilliant ideas! I love the reflectix solution. Are you using the hook portion of the Velcro directly on the roof material?
    I never thought of using the soap/sponge holder for a cell phone. Excellent.
    You might want to check out “compression stuff sacks” for your bulky items in back. I used them for a chilly fall RV trip to Yellowstone (cold weather clothes). Saved a ton of space.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 лет назад

      +Pen Tool Thanks. Yes, the hook side of the Velcro works great on the headliner. I used too much on my first piece so it is too “sticky” so start with a few inches on the smaller pieces.
      I have been thinking about the compression sacks especially for those coats. We have had our share of cold weather on this trip.

    Hi, I like your web site.... lots of good and interesting stuff. Rose and I have a 2016 PW Ascent and really enjoy it. I’ve done a couple of simple mods like magnets for the shades and was wondering in you might be interested. Happy camping, Skip and Rose

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 лет назад

      Funny you should ask; the dealer has started replacing the velcro on our shades for magnets and I just need to take the rig in for him to finish. But now that I have the black out curtains, we probably won't use the shades much at all. I'm still having issues with the shade on the sliding door. It never works properly and I'm thinking it is defective.

    • @skipsteller1908
      @skipsteller1908 5 лет назад

      Michael Paulo at PW said the 2019s would all have magnets, but he didn't have any photos at the time to show me what they would look like, so I'm still waiting to see them. Meanwhile, I'd be interested to see what version your dealer installs for you.What I used were 6 very small neodymium magnets (25X8X2mm) stuffed into each end of the shade pull right behind the end caps to replace the Velcro on the shade itself. And, to replace the round Velcro tabs on the window trim of the RV, I used 1/2X1-1/2X1/16" metal tabs with 2 counter sunk holes for flush-mount screws the same size as used for the Velcro tabs. I made the metal tabs from bar stock and painted them to match the window trim color. A box of 50 magnets was about $14.00 on ebay. The pull of the magnets is just about perfect; holds well when stuck, and comes loose with a small tug. The shades look exactly like they did before except without the Velcro, and the metal tabs blend in with the window trim. The metal tabs are positioned just inside the shade pull end caps so that the end caps rest against the window trim and the flush-mounted metal tabs don't press into the shade material. Since the sliding door is all metal, I didn't need to install metal tabs on that window. Most of this project was looking for the right size magnets to fit inside the shade pull and making the metal tabs. Actual installation was a snap, maybe two hours or so.I've read the challenges you've had with the sliding door shade and I agree it's probably defective. I'm a die-hard too, but the simplest solution may be an entire new shade system for that window (the working pieces, at least). If I recall correctly, PW already has you working directly with the shade manufactures.I had a similar challenge with one of the crank out windows on the back drivers side. It got hit with a beach ball while open and then it would only crank open about half way. Got a new crank and that didn't fix it. The torque rod that the crank turns didn't look damaged, but I got a new one of those anyway, thinking I would re-slot it if nothing else worked. And wouldn't you know, the new torque rod fixed the problem.... seems that even though I couldn't see it, the original torque rod slot had developed just enough slop to cause the window to open only half way. Wonder upon wonders :)

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 лет назад

      I think the dealer is using the same materials that PW now uses. When we finally get it finished, I'll include in a video. If you want to share any photos of how you did yours, my email is energymaven@gmail.com

      @skipsteller1908 5 лет назад

      Be glad to, although they may have to wait until the temp creeps up a bit above 25F. Maybe even some raw video from the Iphone. Now that I know what works, it's such a simple and inexpensive DIY anyone that is the least bit handy could do it.
      Meanwhile, there must be a story behind "energymaven". Care to share :)

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 лет назад

      We never use indoor shower, just too small but haven't had any issues finding alternatives: planet fitness, campgrounds, truck stops, relatives. When it's warm enough outside, the outdoor shower can be used with or without the shower curtain as long as wearing a bathing suit. I have used it in a campground but only when we have sufficient privacy.

      +Julia Longo Thanks. You can buy a roll of reflectix at Home Depot. It is easy to cut. Just be sure to oversize it. In the windshield, the visors help to keep it in place. On the sides, you’ll oversize it so that the door when closed will keep it in place. Does that make sense? If not I can shoot a short video on it.

      Not sure what happened to my response but RUclips makes it more difficult than it needs to be. We actually did not go with Aluminess because they wanted around $8K for the box/bike rack/tire mount package. Since adding the shelf in the cab, we are fine with storage. We may add a front hitch next year so that we can carry both the spare tire and the bike rack but for now, we are happy with the existing set up.

      I was just looking at it this morning. I can't see any change. You can use much smaller pieces than I did. Start with a 2 x 2 inch section and see if that holds it before you go larger, especially on the smaller pieces. And don't forget one for the fan covering. You'll have to cut out for the knob. These will also be good if you travel to the arctic circle when the sun doesn't set. ;-))

      +dale kroll we have the front passenger and driver side windows tinted but it is a clear tint that still blocks out 90% of the UV and heat without adding darkness. We have considered doing the same to the front windshield but with polarized sunglasses you can see that it is tinted. And I am told that even though it is clear it is still illegal in California. The back windows come heavily tinted.

    Hi, we just bought a 20 year old camper van. It's only 19 ft. We will pretty much gut the inside, take up carpet, clean, put down flexible flooring, etc. Any suggestions ?
    Also, did I miss it, where and how much clothes do you carry? One weeks supply? Where to you store the dirty clothes?

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 лет назад +1

      +Diane S. I did do a video on packing our clothes where I talk a little bit about what I take. I’m on the road right now and can’t access my computer but I think I have it in a playlist on my channel. Obviously, with such a small amount of storage we take as little as possible. The bulk of the clothes is very important and so we focus on reducing bulk by choosing fabrics that take up less space. We hang our dirty clothes in a laundry bag in the bathroom. We do laundry about every five days or so so I would say less than a week’s supply. Have fun with your remodel. And just recently we added a 30 inch wide storage box to the hitch. That has helped tremendously for some of those odd items like leveling blocks, tools, chairs, outdoor mat and things like that.

    • @FromShetoMe
      @FromShetoMe  5 лет назад +2

      I agree with your husband, he should only take 2 pair. But our feet are smaller so we can take more. Actually, it depends on the time of year and where we are going. On our summer trip I took 3 pair...hiking shoes, shower shoes, and a casual pair that were really comfortable. I also pick one basic color, either navy or black, and everything has to go with that color. Also, don't take anything that can't be washed with all colors. And don't forget, if you leave home with less, you can shop on the road because you know you will. The less you start out with the happier you (and hubby) will be.

      @@FromShetoMe When my husband and I drive to Florida in the winter from east coast Canada, we take what we need for a month just in the back of our car. A month's supply clothes fit in one carry on size bag each. Meaning, we bring only 1 week supply of clothes that we can wash in laundry. All our clothes are thinner materials and stored in packing cubes. That's the first thing I thought of as a storage solution for your Ascent. Keeps clothes organised and compressed. Each person has their own cubes. For colder weather I think of layers, such as thin microfleece pullovers, and packable/compressible down jackets. I would imagine you could get the same for bed comforters, and they would compress more easily into a tight space. I agree about the microfiber towels which we too use. You can buy them cheaply on Amazon. They take up little space and dry quickly. Question: Where do you hang your jackets when you come in (especially the wet ones)? The Lexor has a small closet for this.
