This is absolutely on one of the few Nicktoons shows i remember. Probably because of the combination of the character designs, the character voices, and that absolute bop earworm of a theme song.
As a kid I always found weird how all of these different cats were meant to be brothers of a same litter (or that Waffles is a cat at all), but some years ago I learned that female cats can indeed get pregnant _with multiple fathers_ *The more you know* 🌈✨
Cat genetics are also just really weird. I once had a cat that only had one father of her kittens and somehow none of them looked like each other and only one looked like each of the parents. The other five were the most odd assortment of colors and patterns.
As a kid, I remember being really confused and uncomfortable with why a cat would be in love with a human child. (Especially since he sounds like an adult). I remember thinking, "okay, that's kinda weird."
I never thought it was weird. They were never really treated like humans that look like cats like say, Bojack Horseman. They were clearly cats. And I don’t think he wanted to do weird things to her. Lol
Man, I remember back then a lotta Nicktoons were hardly promoted or were big hits like back in the 90's, and early 00's they were literally killed off the channel.
It's always interesting to see kids shows originate from morbid comic books or illustrations (Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy comes to mind.) As a kid, I thought the black cat was a little bad luck bearing black cat demon pretending to be a cat, thinking his long ears were actually horns, and his grandiose, prideful, power hungry, self centered leadership behavior reminded me of how demonic figures were portrayed in media, and cursed the human owner with death to get the money. I thought he caused bad luck, seeing him as an unlucky black cat like little demon, and that was how he caused some of the bad crazy stuff that happened in the show and it oftentimes backfired and caused HIM the most bad luck most of the time. I wasn’t super Christian and it mainly was because of his looks and behavior reminding me of stereotypical depictions of demons, but toned down and made more kid friendly. Or maybe I thought they were all demons disguised as cats, the black cat being the leader? Or maybe I thought the tall one with droopy dangling ears was an alien or something? And the one with a stubby tail was some kind of mishmash monster? I barely remember this show, it was so far back in my childhood. Whatever the case, It made the show much more interesting for me, but I’m surprised to find out they were actually just normal cats, and I completely assumed all that stuff.
I need more Catscratch. I barely remember it because it was barely live where I lived, but I do remember loving it a lot, and watching some clips, it still hold up well
Yes! This show does not get enough love! I hope somebody like Shout! Factory makes a physical release of this show someday. At the very least Nick should put it on Paramount Plus, I mean what would they have to lose?
The theme song lives rent free in my head and I love it. Waffle’s newts are the reason I got geckos as pets as an adult. My fiancé and I are getting a cat and I’m demanding his/her name be Waffle. Thank you for your video on a loved part of my childhood.
What pisses me off is the fact that none of my friends remember this show. I LOVED this show and it gave me an unhealthy obsession with root beer for a few years! 😂
This does deserve better, it was funny and love the intro. Loved watching it. Also Catscratch was loosely adapated from Gear (image comics) which is very different and kinda weird.
This could’ve been the next SpongeBob, since Nick is always looking for it. Too bad they keep getting rid of all them before they can become SpongeBob’s successor. Those executives are so indecisive.
Agreed, because what pissed me off about TeenNick's NickRewind?? was that they replaced Invader Zim with Danny Phantom on their schedule, I remember growing up with that show along with Wayside and this show as well.
I remember this show and for some reason the slideshow where Waffle is talking about his city; "And here is my city, with a population of one - Waffle." Also the theme was goochi.

I absolutely LOVED catscratch it was my favorite besides mighty b. waffle must be protected at all costs 💗
Gordon's Lucky Claw was a good one
As much as I loved this show, the only episode I can remember watching is the one when they were at sea taking on giant squids.
So happy you did this show. It’s like no ever remembers it. You gotta do the X’s next.
This does deserve better, it was funny and love the intro. Loved watching it.
Also Catscratch was loosely adapated from Gear (image comics) which is very different and kinda weird.
Yup I go into all of that in this video lol 😄
@@JordanFringe94 Lol my bad, commented it just as said that in the video. .
lol it's all good, thanks for watching! :D
@@JordanFringe94 Thanks for bringing it up :)
This and Nick magazine were so good. Thank you for unlocking this memory vault!
This theme song is still stuck in my head almost daily to this day
I was obsessed with this show when it came out
I remember this show and for some reason the slideshow where Waffle is talking about his city; "And here is my city, with a population of one - Waffle."
Also the theme was goochi.
It still doesn’t sit right with me how Gordon has a crush on a human child
My weird kid self saw nothing wrong with it for some reason. 🤦♀️
Try watching the anime Sgt. Frog. This alien frog wants to take over the earth but fails in every episode. He stuck with this family on earth. There is a mom, an older sister, and a little brother. The mom lets him stick around because she is a manga editor and uses his life as inspiration for her work. He is very lazy. he watches tv and builds Gundam models when he should be plotting to take over the world. Other members of his platoon are stuck on earth too. They meet up in the secret base in the basement. One of the characters Geroro the Angry serious one is in love with Natsumi the sweet responsible older sister who can have a short temper.
@@icecreamhero2375 i keep subconsciously comparing gordon's crush to giroro's on the basis of very questionable one-sided romance between a seemingly adultlike yet non-human character and a young girl. didn't know anybody else did that
7:22 I used to play this flash game a ton as a kid.
i miss this show, it had potential to be one of the greats, i have a very fond memory of eating a bowl of cocoa pebbles in the morning watching catscratch
I don't even remember that much about this show, yet what I DO remember is permanently etched in my brain.
